The CBS News logo appears and then fades away to Maria Gavra, sitting on a stool with ankles crossed, in front of a wall of television screens showing different pictures from around the country. Today, Maria's dark hair is once again in a ponytail draped over a shoulder. She is wearing a black turtleneck sweater, high waisted dark blue jeans with the cuffs turned up, and stiletto heels. When she looks up from her sheaf of papers, the screens behind her sync up into a picture of a column of main battle tanks rumbling down a dirt road.

"Good afternoon. I'm Maria Gavra and this is a CBS News Update. Making news this afternoon, the Defense Ministry announced this morning that the modernizition program of the armed forces continues apace. The Second Armored Corps is currently receiving brand new armored fighting machines optimized for defense and urban warfare, and will begin training with those machines soon. It is expected the Second Corps will be deployed along side the First Corps to the west of Banja Luka, possible also on the border with Lars.

"In other defense related news, security operations in Orlitz-Slavonia continue. Over the weekend, Crotobaltislavonian Army and police units, assisted by Kadikistani assets, clashed with General Alexander Radek's militia forces again. Radek's troops were attempting to ambush a Yiddish Evacuation Convoy when they were discovered and engaged. The Defense Ministry reports over two dozen militiamen were killed. Army and police casualties are said to be light."

Maria slips off her stool and steps over in front of a subsection of television screens showing a drawing of a man's face. "Do you recognize this man? Banja Luka Police say this is what the Reservior Killer may have looked like before he was hacked to death by a mob of vigilantes. The investigation into the Killer's identity has so far turned up nothing, though leads continue to pour in. However, the authorities have been able to backtrack the killer's movements across Crotobaltislavonia by following the trail of victims he left behind. The next pictures may be unsuitable for some viewers."

The screen switches to video of a room lit by up police flood lamps. A policewoman in while mask and coveralls steps away, revealing a closet with bodies hanging inside. The bodies are blurred to hide their sex and because they have been badly mutilated.

Back on Maria: "Lairs like this have been discovered from Chodov to Bijeljina, some with remains going back ten years. Identification is ongoing and next of kin are being notified when possible."

Behind Maria, the wall of screens switches to a gusher spraying oil everywhere! "Will oil be Crotobaltislavonia's salvation? Find out after the break. More news on the way!"

Polesia to be a homeland for all Jews

The Polesian People's Republic will be recognised as the first 'Jewish homeland' in the new constitution, with a supportive 'Welcoming Law' guaranteeing people of Jewish heritage the right to automatic citizenship promised as well.

The Consultative Committee to the Provisional Military Administration, a grouping of community leaders advising the Kadikistani armed forces stationed in former Trivodnia, confirmed the proposals earlier today.

"Under the guidance from our friends in Ivar, territories that once formed part of the failed state of Trivodnia will be given new purpose as a socially just, progressive home for Jews worldwide, offering them the security and status of a dedicated nation-state," read a public statement from the Consultative Committee.

The new constitution, which is still currently being drafted, will be put to a popular vote as part of the transition process that will see the Polesian People's Republic move to independent, civilian rule.

The Free Canton of Crotobaltislavonia welcomes this news from the Polesian People's Republic. Now that the Free Canton has such a powerful endorsement of its humanitarian mandatory evacuation policy, the National Assembly will consider expanding that evacuation to include ALL those of Jewish and Yiddish heritage, whether they reside in Orlitz-Slavonia or in Crotobaltislavonia proper.

"Man will make it his purpose to master his own feelings, to raise his instincts to the heights of consciousness, to make them transparent, to extend the wires of his will into hidden recesses, and thereby to raise himself to a new plane, to create a higher social biologic type, or, if you please, a superman."

Snap Presidential Tour Announced
The Presidential Palace has announced that President Valerian Fyodorov will be undertaking a tour of the Motherland starting tomorrow. The tour will include twelve cities in seven days. The cities were not named for security reasons. It is expected the President will be speaking frequently and meeting with local dignitaries. The Palace did say that at the conclusion of his tour, the President will make a major policy announcement regarding the future of the Motherland. Speculation is rife on what that future holds.

Observers are noting that President Fyodorov has not been seen beyond the Palace's balcony since he came to power earlier this year. Otpor League operatives are already whipping supporters into a frenzy and the President's events should be well attended. At the same time, the Free Jewish Coalition has said it will be ready to bus in demonstrators wherever the President plans to speak. Security measures have not been announced, but sources within the State Political Administration have said it's possible the entire country could be locked down.

Presidential Tour Gets Underway
Today and tonight, President Fyodorov is visiting Svatava, on the border with the Grand Duchy of Lars. Earlier in the day, the President gave several speeches, both in public and at gatherings of local authorities, businesspersons, and guildmembers. This evening, the President is attending a private dinner sponsored by the local chapter of the Otpor League. There has been no official release of any of the President's speeches so far. However, witnesses are reporting the President spoke of peace and reconciliation in Crotobaltislavonia.

Several busloads of Jewish protestors arrived in Svatava several hours after President Fyodorov arrived. Local police reports all protests have been orderly and there have been no arrests.

No word yet on the President's destination tomorrow, though Chodov is the odds-on favorite.

President's Tour Marred By Violence
In only its second day, President Fyodorov's tour of the country is seeing violent clashes between multiple stakeholders. This morning at a rally in Chodov, Otpor and Farragoist partisans turned on each other while the President gave remarks. The President was whisked away by his security team and riot police were deployed. A presidential spokeswoman said that Fyodorov would follow his schedule and speak later in Chodov's city center. What's being dubbed "Jews-On-Buses" has been sighted on the highway to Chodov and is expected to arrive in time for the President's next public speech.

Twentish Germans Align With The Jewish Party
Hoping to steal some of President Fyodorov's thunder, The T Alliance - Twents For Crotobaltislavonia political party announced this morning that it is joining the Free Jewish Coalition. The T Alliance has long been the main political representation for the Twentish German minority centered in Sokolov District. At the announcement, party leader Eduard Frei said, "the Twentish German minority has had no a voice in Banja Luka for too long. We hope to change this by allying with the Yids, another marginalized people." Twentish Catholic Bishop Urban Dreschner and an unidentified Jewish rabbi were also on hand.

The Government of the Grand Duchy is concerned about the violence that erupted during President Fyodorov's speech. The parties concerned are invited to build a dialogue. Democracy is formed by dialogue between the parties and has no room for violence that only leads to authoritarian governments.

"Good afternoon, Comrades. Your news, right now. We are in Foca today, close to the frontier with Elben. As you can see, crowds have gathered for Comrade President Fyodorov, who is scheduled to give remarks within the hour. He is expected to talk about international cooperation in the war against Blud and organized crime, both of which continue to plague the Motherland. Foca is a Slavonian stronghold; ethnic violence is not expected today. However, after the recent clash between Otpor and the Farragoists, police here are ready for anything."

The picture zooms in on Jela's head and shoulders and pans right a bit to allow for the graphic over her shoulder. It's a big tank bursting through a brick wall.

"Comrades, in your other news, right now, at it's daily press conference, the Defense Ministry has announced construction of Tank Plant Number One is completed and Phase Two will commence this week. Phase Two includes the installation of the actual tooling that will produce the Motherland's new fighting machines. The Plant's workforce will also be assembled during this Phase and begin learning the manufacturing process. Finally, the Defense Ministry revealed the Plant is located outside of Beltizni in Orlitz-Slavonia District."

The graphic changes to a group of men holding up their fists as they appear to shout at each other.

"Also making your news, right now, the National Assembly is in session today to debate Jewish evacuation from the Motherland. In her opening remarks, Farragoist party leader Comrade Biserka Lončar declared that there are more than enough votes to quote send the Yids on their way unquote. However, the leadership of the Jewish and Pochenkoist parties have united against evacuation and a number of Otpor League deputies have declined to commit HEY!"

Jela jumps out of the frame. After a split second, the camera zooms out to show Jela rubbing her backside while a pack of teen boys leer at the camera, flash gang signs, and make obscene gestures. Jela grabs one of the boys, and launches into ...

The CBS News logo appears and then fades away to Maria Gavra, who is again outside and on a roof. It's a chilly day and Maria is wearing a black parka, zipped up tight, and her long dark hair is rolled into earmuffs. Behind Maria, the sky is a brilliant azure and a flock of white birds peacefully drift by.

"Good afternoon. I'm Maria Gavra and this is a CBS News Update. We are live from Krasrilevke where President Fyodorov will speak within moments about the future of the Motherland."

The images flips to a different shot of the stage showing the President working his way down a line of dignitaries.

Maria in VO: "the President is up on the stage and greeting his guests ... that is Orthodox Metropolitan Damjan Milivoj Davidovic, whom the President has clashed with before. With him is Twentish Catholic Bishop Urban Dreschner, who is making a name for himself as a champion of moderation. Apparently no representation for the Tiburan Church today. The President just exchanged words with a woman whom CBS News is told is a Germanic Jew from Sokolov. And next to her is Melchol Tirzah, leader of the Free Jewish Coalition. The President must have used up a lot of capital to coax her out of hiding ... the President is turning towards the crowd. Krasrilevke is a Jewish stronghold, but they are excited to see President Fyodorov, and he them. Let's listen in."

As the crowd cheers, President Fyodorov waves and fist pumps. As if on cue, the crowd's cheers grow more vibrant and the President lingers ... away from his armored podium. And then there is a flash of fire followed by a loud explosion. The image zooms out to show smoke and dust rising into the air where the President was standing only seconds before.

Maria in VO: "Where is the President? I can't see him? Jela, can you see him down there? Jela, can you see him? Are you hearing me, Jela?"

Smoke and dust still obscure the stage. In front of the stage, bodies can be seen. There are survivors, bloodied and concussed. Several security men charge in from out of frame to the right, their weapons drawn. Police and medical sirens can be heard approaching.

Maria in VO: "Moments ago there was an explosion. It looks like the explosion was right in front of where the President was standing ... hello, Jela, are you with us ... Jela's producer is with us. Silvija, can you tell us what's going on at street level?"

State Confirms The Death of President Fyodorov
Under heavy security, Prime Minister Musayev spoke to reporters this morning. The Prime Minister confirmed that President Valerian Fyodorov died in last week's blast that killed over two dozen dignitaries, security personnel, and civilians. The Prime Minister said that the President most likely died instantly from massive trauma. "Valerian was a friend from the early days of the Otpor movement. He is a martyr and I will do all that I can to bring his vision to life."

National Assembly Meets In Emergency Session
Late last night, after almost twelves hours of continuous debate, the National Assembly voted unanimously to grant Prime Minister Musayev interim presidential powers. The interim powers will expire at the end of the year or on the election of a new president. After the vote, insiders reported that military leaders assembled at the Presidential Palace to give their support to Prime Minister Musayev. The insider denied that the Prime Minister received formal loyalty oaths from the officers.

The Grand Duchy of Lars is very concerned about the escalation of violence that is gripping the Republic of Crotobaltislavonia. We have heard the sad news concerning the death of President Fyodorov, we send our condolences to the family and to the entire nation. We hope that the president's death investigation starts as soon as possible and that the criminals are handed over to justice. However, given the level of violence reached within Republic of Crotobaltislavonia, we are forced to close the border.

At this time of national emergency, we wish to provide our condolences and our reassurances of our commitment to strengthening bonds of security between our two nations. To whom it may concern,

The Pelasgian Empire would like to offer its most heartfelt and sincere condolences to the people and government of Crotobaltislavonia for the loss of a statesman of great import to them, as well as countless other innocents. We would also like to extend such condolences to the families and loved ones of the victims of this most heinous crime. The Pelasgian Empire has known all too forcefully and recently the pain of such loss due to similar terrorist attacks.

Any and all aid that might be necessary in bringing the perpetrators to justice is available, though we are certain that the authorities of Crotobaltislavonia will successfully complete this task on their own strength. The Pelasgian diplomatic missions in Crotobaltislavonia will maintain a full week of mourning, with flags raised at half a mast and a black ribbon of grief raised over them.
