The Republic finds the recent action taken by Carentania to be excessive. While Frescania does not recognize any claims placed upon the southern pole, such aggressive move is intolerable. We hope that our Eastern neighbor does not take unnecessary actions.

Carentania Dispatches Destroyer To Antarctica
AP Rijeka

Following claims made by Ivernia and Auraria on the territories of the Antarctic continent, Carentania has issued a strong-voiced insistence that the unsettled continent can not be considered the sole property of any European country at this point. To further reinforce their position, Carentanias Navy has apparently now dispatched a destroyer southwards, carrying elements of the Second Navy Infantry Division. The move, which is bound to be seen as provocational by the countries which have staked claims to Antarctica, is expected to prove the futility of what Carentania perceives as "imperialist endeavours" on the southern continental landmass.

"We will make landfall in the south and prove the inability of the involved powers to enforce their meaningless claims," Commissar for Foreign Affairs Tomas Jerman commented.

Carentanias destroyer, named "Suffragette", is expected to arrive in the south by end of next week.

Teachtaireacht ón Prionsa-Toghthóir na Íverniann i iúl in ainm Teamhrach Caislean, an Airdrígh agus uile-Íverniann.

The High Kingdom of Ivernia's most important and specified claim to land in the southern continent called Sneachtír is the year-round occupied dock of Maximillian Port (which islocated directly south of the Ivernish Himyari Commonwealth with no nations in between), which leads to a very important Scientific Research Base called the Magnus Sneachtír South Pole Base, built in Octorber of 1952, the first year-round occupied scientific base in Sneachtír. These bases are owned and operated by the Royal Ivernish Geographic Society, and scientists from anywhere in Europe can apply to conduct peaceful research.

So long as this non-military establishment is uninterrupted in it's important research the Nation of Carentania is free to peruse Sneachtír with it's Destroyer-Class Warship.

Ivernia's claim to the land surrounding the established bases are non-negotiable. However counter claims to the rest of Sneachtír will be listened to with open ears.
The idea that a nation is not allowed to own territory that is unsuitable to human habitation is not agreed upon by the High kingdom of Ivernia. Many nations such as Sylvania have large regions within their borders that today would be considered uninhabitable to humans and do you fight this claim? What about the territories of the Pellewburg Confederacy, or the desert nations of Himyar? Or perhaps the mountains of Yujin?

Frankly the High Kingdom of Ivernia is surprised that the nation of Carentania did not come to the High Kingdom to discuss this, and would rather decide to waste time and money to put on a military show. We in Ivernia are of the belief that Carentania is fighting skirmishes in Vangala and yet saves troops for meaningless campaigns of one-upmanship?

This High Kingdom hopes that Carentania will use it's diplomatic cables over it's warships the next time it finds issue with Ivernia.

The Workers' Republic of Carentania and its Navy ship "Suffragette" will not initiate hostile activities, especially not against unarmed civilian researchers. It is our opinion that the Antarctic continent is open for all of Europe to conduct scientific research on the landmass. Our intention in dispatching a ship to the south is to send a strong signal that we consider the claims issued unilaterally on the landmass by Ivernias and Aurarias government to be illegitimate and an offensive case of imperialism.

Press Release

The Grand Duchy of Nichtstein, whilst not moving towards a definite position on the recognition or non-recognition of any claims to national sovereignty on the territories of the Frozen South, does still hope that the nations with active endeavors as to the former will not strive to actively or passively, directly or indirectly hinder any Nichtsteiner research projects, present or future, confirmed or potential, in the Frozen South, just as the Grand Duchy of Nichtstein does not act to hinder, given as a hypothetical example for a pure exercise of thought and not leading to any conclusion as to any existing or not-existing plans of the Grand Duchy of Nichtstein, as an example, the free movement of ships off the southern islands of Nichtstein.

Given the above, the Grand Duchy of Nichtstein also extends its sympathy and understanding to the Worker's Republic of Carentania, so directly accused by some of aggressive moves, all while that same Carentania is not taking any moves, direct or indirect, planned or potential, to hinder the free movement of Aurarian or Ivernian ships in between Carentania and Carentanian-occupied Solaren, thus countering the claims to overt aggressiveness.

No Peace in Yujin
AP Rijeka

Carentanian officials have announced that attempts to negotiate a peace with the Empire of Yujin have failed. The Workers' Republic had approached Yujin, following the failure of their offensive into Vangalan territory. According to the Carentanian Commissariate for Foreign Affairs, the conditions presented to the Yu Empire were the cessation of hosilities towards Vangala, a guarantuee of non-aggression towards the socialist state, as well as the release of Liangang as independent commune to create a refugium for those persecuted by Yu authorities as real or suspected rebels.

Yujin thoroughly rejected these demands, instead demanding that "Any Yujiner, Vangalan, Carentanian, Havenite, or foreign national of Communist descent, is to be summarily arrested, imprisoned, and tried for sedition" as well as that the city of Liangang "will henceforth be removed from this world by fire".

Carentanias Commissar for Foreign Affairs has commented on Yujins demands, calling them "delusional". In a public press conference, he referred to the Yu Emperor as "Monster of the East", a common nickname for the Emperor amongst his enemies, and said that "Carentania will never allow the Emperor to massacre an entire city unopposed, nor will it abandon its citizens to the cruelty of the Imperial regime."

The results of the failed peace negotiations will likely mean an escalation of the conflict, as Carentania has already announced an increase of operation against the Empire of Yujin. As of now, Carentanian forces are already enforcing a blockade of the Long Sea for ships flying the flag of Imperial Yujin.

Potenzan Carrier Deployed
AP San Salvo

Potenzan media sources had earlier reported that the Ministry of Defense had canceled the idea to deploy the aircraft carrier Francis II as part of the Cantignia relief force, about to go underway to evacuate Potenzan nationals from the Cantigian main island. However, sources located around the Castellana naval base (the Royal Navy's access to the Long Sea) reported seeing the carrier already being deployed out to sea. Rumors are that a detachment of Folgore (Potenzan airborne) were likewise seen boarding the carrier.

Contacts at the Potenzan Ministry of Defense said that the carrier is conducting training maneuvers, and its leaving harbor was not related to the Cantigian evacuations. They likewise denied any stories that Folgore were aboard the carrier.

We warn Potenza that any involvement of its military in matters of foreign revolutionary unrest will not go unanswered by Carentania. If the intent of this mission is, as stated, purely an attempt to evacuate its citizens, then Potenza has our deepest sympathies. If, however, Potenza wants to act to quell the unrest caused by oppressive Cantignian domestic policies, then it will have us as its fiercest adversary.

Vangala demands independence for Sinhai
AP International

The Vangalan National People's Assembly has voted to demand independence for Sinhai as a precondition to peace with the Empire of Yujin. The vote follows the recent rejection of Carentanian peace proposals by the Empire of Yujin. Carentania's suggested terms were a non-aggression treaty between the two parties and the establishment of the city of Liangiang as an independent commune. Instead, Yujin has vowed to imprison any foreign national with a known Communist political affiliation and to destroy the city of Liangiang.

The vote by the Vangalan National People's Assembly further decreases the chances of a peace treaty being signed between Vangala and Yujin. Analysts suggest it was purely symbolic in motivation, with the majority of Assembly Members, officially known as People's Representatives, realising Yujin agreeing to an independent Sinese state was unlikely.

Historically, Sinhai was an independent kingdom, although often a tributary state to the Yu Empire. It shares many cultural and social similarities with other Yujiner ethnic groups, as well as with the Maga people in Vangala.

Vangalan lawmakers have also met with officials from the Popular Committee for the Liberation of Sinhai (PCLS), which the Yujin government has denounced as a puppet organisation. The People's Republic of Vangala recently recognised the Committee as the sole legitimate authority in Sinhai.

International observers sympathetic to the Maga nationalist cause have accused the Vangalan Communist regime of hypocrisy, noting their own vigorous attempts to suppress Maga separatism. The Vangalan Communist government and a number of Maga rebel groups recently agreed to a peace settlement after months of conflict.

Provisional Government chastises Potenza for its Millitarism
AP Valmy

Recent statements and actions by the Grand Duchy of Potenza have provoked a strongly negative response from the Provisional Government in Valmy, Montelimar, who regard its millitaristic response to a recent spate of terrorist attacks in Eastern Montelimar as a "gross overreaction." Premier Alphonse Vanier, Head of the nominal Provisional Government, has personally issued a strong rebuke of Potenza's buildup of millitary forces along their Northeastern border with Montelimar, and stated boldly that the so-called "insurgency" was the "hysteria of Potenzan old ladies and the fantasy of a few Carentanian agitators."

Although nominally only a transitional head of government, Premier Alphonse Vanier has already won popular acclaim in the Montelimaren Press for his bombastic approach to politics, speaking loudly and plainly in airing his opinions, which tend to strike a chord with the liberal bourgeoise of Montelimar, who admire his confidence and resolution in the face of ongoing difficulties as a result of the August Catastrophe.

"Potenza is not, nor will ever be, a threat or concern to Montelimar, but, that being said, we hope that it is does not swoon from fear at the prospect of rampaging red armies, as seems to be the current scenario of choice in the pulp magazines so popular with the youth of today." reiterated the Premier in his closing remarks. "We welcome trade and close links with Potenza and all our neighbours, but we will not stand for unnecessary millitarisation or rumour-mongering, and we call on the Potenzan Ambassador to issue a formal apology, aswell as assurances that this talk of fortifying the border is a precautionary measure only, and will not hinder vital economic links."

With the majority of the supposed-perpetrators of the Cafe Bombings now safely incarcerated, and trial dates set for later this summer, it is clear that the Provisional Government is keen to reassert itself as being firmly in control.

The Grand Duchy, who has not interfered with the internal affairs of Montelimar, even after the war fought between our two powers almost a century ago, is very distraught by these words coming from the north, for serious reasons:

1) The only thing the Grand Duchy has said is that we will not tolerate insurgent activities near our borders. This is matter of security. We are certain that Montelimar would feel the same way, if the situation were reversed. Especially as Potenza has co-ownership with the city of Caen and transportation interests to the north, in the Montelimar and other provinces, we believe that our worries are just a little bit valid.

2) This has been said by the foreign ministry only twice, and all that was said was what we stated before. This is hardly "unnecessary militarization."

3) These statements that Potenza has mobilized her military are completely false. No military has been mobilized, as of yet, only discussions of what the Grand Duchy will do if the Montelimar situation becomes like Cantignia. The Ministry of Defense have even gone so far as to say that a full invasion will not be carried out. The worst that the Grand Duchy might do is cross the border and create a DMZ to prevent the flow of insurgents and rebel groups into our territory.

We ask that Mr. Vanier apologize for these remarks, which do more harm than good for the relationship between the Grand Duchy and the provisional government. If he believes these fears are warranted, we demand he present evidence of them. We likewise welcome close trade and relations with Montelimar, and hope that these issues are resolved without the need of foreign intervention. However, this will not happen if our respective governments go at one another's throats.

[As Montelimar]

We thank the Grand Duchy for clarifying its position, and putting to rest misunderstandings concerning emotively charged language in the popular press. We can provide the utmost assurance that there is little chance of this violence spreading to Potenza, and we simply felt that Potenza simply gave too much credence to the terrorists by acting so cautiously. That said, these are troubling times, and perhaps my colleague, the Premier, was remiss to speak so brashly about a sensitive subject.

I offer you my apologies, and I hope that this matter will be put behind us.

As news continues of, what some in Auraria call, the Carentanian Invasion Force, leaks documents being sent back and forth by the National Guard of the Aurarian Republic reveal with clarity that the Aurarian Republic is not convinced, but prepared for a Carentanian attack on the researchers heading for Tierra de la Nieve. Many rumors suggest that soldiers are among those heading to Tierra de la Nieve, but the leaked documents make no mention of any armed personnel being with the research group. The documents outline the logistics and preliminary plans for how to conduct naval operations and react to the Carentanians resisting or hindering the landing. Although the documents do not make mention of the words invasion or war, they are titled “The Carentanian Invasion.”

Sikandari Emperor delays signing Kyivian executive order
AP Shahdara

Following a delay of several days, the Chancellor of Sikandara has announced that the Emperor is considering whether to put his signature on the death sentence, ordered by the Supreme Court, which would authorise prison staff to execute 21 spies caught in Sikandara. The move by the Emperor is coming as a particular nasty surprise to the hardline, anti-communist government of Chancellor Suleymani, who are now facing the distinct possibility that the Emperor may commute the sentence of the 21 Kyivian spies.

It is rumoured that neutral channels might be used to resolve the matter between Sikandara and Kyiv, however the two governments remain officially hostile and opposed to any such measure.

Potenzan Royal Navy Begins Cantigian Evacuations
AP Vesper

Elements of the Potenzan Royal Navy have arrived at the major Cantigian city, and begun the evacuation operations. Potenzan tourists, businessmen, and non-essential personnel at the embassy and other government offices, are being loaded onto the commandeered civilian vessels, under the watch of three destroyers and elements of the Potenzan Royal Army. These evacuations are being done in cooperation with the Cantigian Transit Authority, and thus far there has not been any major problem. The Grand Duchy intends to temporarily locate the refugees to Port Arturo, after which they will either return to Cantignia after the fighting dies down, or they will return to the mother country.

The Potenzan light cruiser Dante Alighiero is already deployed to the south of the main island, should emergency evacuations be required for those who can't make it to Vesper. Eyewitnesses from Cantignia coastal towns have claimed that an unidentified aircraft was also seen in the area, but the Potenzan Ministry of Defense has denied any of her two carriers being deployed.

Yujin At War: An Overview
AP Nokanawa

Warfare and revolution has plunged the Eastern nations into a time of conflict, and perhaps the most violent and most undernoted conflict is that of Yujin. High profile revolutions and insurgencies have been sparked in Touzen and Cantignia, spurred on by global media, but at the same time a civil war has gripped Yujin, severing the most populated state in the world from the rest of Europe. This disconnect of a large segment of the global population from the world has many understated implications, not least of which is the possibility that a mass exodus from this nation could result in refugee populations that could dwarf the populations of many Western nations.

However, the conflict in Yujin has so far prevented such an event. Two major port cities within the nation are devastated by war and under constant bombardment, the Imperial navy is either sunk or decommissioned, and many of the naval personnel have been pressed into service with the Army or have defected to one of numerous factions struggling to assert their control over the nation. Two main groups seek to control the nation; the Hongmenghui, or Red Oath Society, is a Communist front lead by the charismatic Wu Jindiao and supported by a host of Communist nations, though their forces wage a conflict that has seen casualties spiraling upwards of 1,000 per day; the Fuguotian, or Restore the Nation Alliance, is an isolated Republican organization with the support of influential general Zhao Yue. The central government, lead by Emperor Qirui, is increasingly losing control of the nation, though his forces are kept in the field by the contributions of his supporters. Claims have arisen suggesting that various Generals have begun amassing personal armies and asserting control over swathes of territory, taking advantage of the governments inability to keep them in check, but these claims are unable to be independently verified.

Worse still, the conflict has threatened to spill over to other nations, with the militarized border between North Seora and Touzen's New Territories now becoming a conflict zone between many disparate factions, and the failed Imperial offensive into Vangala having been pushed back across the Emerald River. The fact that refugees have not begun fleeing the country is most easily attributed to the fact that the nation of Yujin is in a state of warfare on all possible fronts, and that the country itself is fracturing at the seams. It is clear that Emperor Qirui is unable to maintain control over the nation - but who else is capable of uniting this nation and leading it through this time of conflict is unknown. One fact remains certain - the conflict is unlikely to end, and many more people within the world's most populous nation are unlikely to survive the next year.

Revolution in Vangala: An Overview
AP Shahdara

The Vangalan Revolution, termed the "People's Revolution" by the Vangalan Workers and Peasants Party, appears to be entering its final phase as the Revolutionary Command Council announces the replacement of emergency law with the new Vangalan Constitution and pledges to hold national and local elections before the end of the traditional Vangalan year (next April). The Vangalan Revolution started with the Great Mutiny of 1950, when thousands of Vangalan soldiers refused to fight for Franconia in Montelimar. Including casualties from the invasion by Yujin, the Revolution has claimed between an estimated 2 to 6 million lives, and left a similar number of Vangalans displaced internally and externally.

Considering the immense devastation associated with the Revolution, it can be considered a Pyrrhic victory for the Communist revolutionaries, but a victory nonetheless. The revolutionaries defeated the world's foremost imperialist power, Franconia, and all internal Vangalan rivals, with peace settlements recently agreed with Kita and Maga nationalist groups. The invasion by Yujin, which commands one of the globe's largest land armies, and its subsequent repulsion represented another significant victory for Vangala's Communists. The Vangalan government-in-exile, while still recognised as the sole legal government of Vangala by the majority of the international community, commands no support or influence inside Vangala, and is highly unlikely to retake power.

Outside support, particularly from Carentania and Havenshire, partly ensured the success of the Vangalan Revolution. Carentanian aerial and naval power ultimately hindered the Yujiner advance and allowed for the Vangalan counter-offensive. Carentania and Havenshire further provided huge quantities of humanitarian and military goods to the Communist regime to guarantee its survival.

Vangala's relationship with these two socialist countries will help dictate the country's future. Analysts from the Centre for the Academic Study of Socialist States (CASSS) has suggested pressure from Carentania and Havenshire helped end rule by emergency law in Vangala, with the two states making aid conditional on political reform. Basuism, the dominant ideological current of the Vangalan Workers and Peasants Party, diverges significantly from the Council-Communism of Carentania and Havenshire, which may result in future tensions. Carentanian officials are already reportedly disturbed by the increasingly authoritarian and nationalistic outlook of the Vangalan Workers and Peasants Party. The current conference of "revolutionary states" in Kyiv will determine Vangala's position in the socialist world.

The geopolitical consequences of the Vangalan Revolution can already be seen in the region. The uprising in Yujin was enabled by an influx of arms caused by the instability in Vangala, and once the Vangalan Communists seized control, opened channels for socialist states to supply materiel for the Hongmenghui. Recent troubles in Khomestan, in Sikandara, are also likely the result of an increased flow of arms to Sikandari rebels. Worryingly, this may lead to a new conflict, this time between Vangala and Sikandara.

The effects of the Vangala will soon be felt further afield. The Vangalan brand of communism may prove attractive to developing and post-colonial nations, with Council-Communism mostly restricted to developed nations. The addition to the socialist bloc of one of the world's most populous and resource-rich nations will alter the global balance of power.

However, the Revolution may still fail. With no formal peace agreement, war with Yujin may be renewed, and a new front opened possibly with Sikandara. A combined invasion of two of the East's great regional powers would likely put an end to the Communist regime, and see a restoration of the exiled government, and Vangala transformed into a federal constitutional monarchy. Unrest may begin again within Vangala, from separatists to anti-communists seeking change.

Yet what is most startling about the Vangalan Revolution is the lack of attention from outside observers, with the world otherwise concerned with the conflicts in Central and Northern Europe.

Danish elections yield no winners
AP Christiansborg

As elections in Danmark came to close this late evening, results looked split between three parties. Many had overwhelmingly considered Henrik Westerveld's campaign to prove more successful, but polls seems to indicate that he had problems in German speaking regions of the country, a language that is overwhelmingly more prominent in Danmark than many would seem to suspect.

Talks of a coalition government are expected to occur over the next night, but many are holding little hope in such talks. Westerveld holds little to gain from a coalition with either rival party. The result may be his urgency this weekend to hold a new election in hopes that his platform may win over more votes in German speaking Danmark.

This ultimately will have an adverse impact on the outlook of the Danish treasury which is suffering from deployments in Boliatur, Danish Implaria and the Faroes. The German speaking party leader, Max Reinhart has stated that his party does not endorse either deployment and urges a coalition government to take place in order to avoid unnecessary public expenditures. "The people have spoken, we must take these results and come to a fair Government that the people desire."

It is expected that the results of inter-party discussions will be known sometime this coming weekend.

Imperial Offensive Hits Yujiner Republicans
AP Nokanawa

The Yujiner Republican revolutionaries, led by the umbrella organization known as the Fuguotian, or Restore the Nation Alliance, have seen the front lines of their conflict with the Imperial Army settle down, with both sides consolidating their holdings. The Fuguotian, led by the former General Zhao Yue, has lost many members in their revolutionary struggle, including high profile leader Han Juemin. The Fuguotian is an organization which represents a wide diversity of political agenda's and advocates for a Republican system of government, where all opinions can be represented. Viewed as a moderate faction in a part of the world often viewed as commanded by radicals, the Fuguotian is now beset by conflict and, with little foreign support, unlikely to survive the summer.

The offensive, launched late in the evening of Thursday night, was announced this morning by the Imperial herald as the "traitor's punishment". Having amassed a force of 150,000 troops, the Imperial Army has set itself upon Cai Province, striking hard at Republican forces on the front lines. A capable command structure and training has prevented the same levels of casualties suffered by the Hongmenghui earlier in the week, but the Republican revolutionaries have had less success mobilizing and arming recruits for their forces, lacking the monetary means to raise more troops.

The Southern Expeditionary Army, an elite force of 250,000 troops which has launched an offensive against the Hongmenghui stronghold of Liangang in Mao Province, has freed up Imperial resources to be diverted to the Republican front - the Imperial government likely intends to crush the Republican rebellion by October, closing the third front in time to reinforce Xinhai Province and recommission the navy by the end of the monsoon season.
