Popular discontent at delay in 21 Kyivian executions
AP Shahdara
As news broke in Sikandara that the government had delayed carrying out the execution of 21 convicted Kyivian spies, the mood in the country has darkened with many asking why the hardline right-wing government of Chancellor Suleymani suddenly delaying the execution. The far-right Republican Party has decried the government's lack of transparency on the issue and has condemned the light attitude in regards to the Kyivian spies. In a poll carried out by the Shahdara Tribune, 65% had shown disappointment that the execution of "enemies of the empire" had not been carried out.
The Government, for its part, has tried to calm the mood by issuing a statement in which it has been said that the execution has only been delayed due to the possibility of an adverse reaction that might be provoked in Vangala. The Sikandari Communist Party has announced that it will conduct a silent protest outside the Imperial Parliament to protest the execution, with its top leadership threatening to go on a hunger strike if the punishment is not commuted. In Osmaniye, a northern city, the tensions following the event resulted in a gunfight between supporters of the Communist and Republican parties, which remain bitterly opposed to each other and contest for dominance in the city. The Government condemned the violence.
