GOVERNMENT OF SIKANDARA
COUNCIL FOR DIPLOMACY
OFFICIAL COMMUNIQUE
The Imperial Government would like to point out obvious flaws in the statement issued by the Kilkila Clique. The Empire has supported its ally in Yujin with a wide assortment of goods, but we have not provided them with chemical weapons.

The policies of Yujin in regards to unconventional warfare is there's alone. Unlike the communist bloc, the Imperial side is full of independent nations, a concept most unfamiliar to the vassals of Carentania.

We ourselves consider it unknown at this moment who actually approved the attacks in question. We only said that the culprits must be punished, but we did not say who the culprits are. At this moment, it is only known that the attacks took place, but we consider it very well possible that the imperial government itself did not approve it.

Also parts of army sent to Northern Eiffelland
Navy and Air Force mobilised

The government also announced the mobilisation of the Navy and Air Force. Two reasons were given for that measure: The civil war in Danmark and the possible escalation of the war in Yujin. Chancellor Von Seydewitz: "Regarding Danmark, our support is with the Danish, and that means both the Danes and the Germanics. We support Mr. Kammerschen and the Commonwealth against terror from Christiansborg, but we will also do everything we can to prevent Dane hunts. The conflict in Danmark has the potential to spill over to Northern Eiffelland; we have to be prepared for that. We will prepare the Navy against a possible Danish naval attack, and the army against a possible Danish land attack. Regarding the war in Yujin, we will have to keep trade in the Long Sea secure, and that is what we will enforce."
Chancellor Graf von Seydewitz also called upon all the foreign forces in Yujin to focus on stabilising the country and leaving any ideological disputes apart: "Both the Socialists, and the alliance between Sikandari and Sri Siva, and the imperial government of Yujin must open their eyes for the fact that tens of millions of people, maybe even hundreds of millions of people, are suffering from the war in Yujin. Decisions about post-war Yujin should not be enforced at the expense of so many people."

Eiffelland recognises Faroese Republic

As soon as the results of the referendum on the Faroes became known, the government of Eiffelland announced that it will recognise the Faroese Republic. A spokesperson of the Chancellery indicated that “The Faroese people have indicated their wishes about the future of their islands”, and that “the international community has to respect those wishes”.

National elections in Eiffelland

The elections of the Staatstag, Eiffelland’s national parliament, are scheduled to take place on Sunday 27 April 1954. A victory for the CDV, Chancellor Graf von Seydewitz’s party, is expected, but it remains to be seen if the current CDV‑FDV coalition manages to keep its majority due to expected losses for the FDV, which is loosing more and more votes to the far right Volksunion. Quite some people traditionally voting for the FDV want to see a more confrontational stance towards leftwing countries like Carentania and Tyrrhenia than the government has shown, and those people decide either to not vote or to vote for the Volksunion.
Apart from that, there is also a movement of voters from the FDV to the CDV. Such a movement is seen more often in CDV‑FDV coalitions; in contrast when the CDV governs with the SPE, the voters move from the CDV to the FDV.
It is uncertain in which way the current war in Danmark will influence the elections. It can lead to losses for the CDV and more gains for the SPE, but it can also go a different way if the Eiffellandian intervention in Danmark turns out to be successful.

These are the stances of the political parties.

Christlich-Demokratische Volkspartei (CDV) (black)
General: Christiandemocratic.
Foreign affairs: It is of vital importance that Eiffelland keeps good relations with its neighbours. Continuation of current cordial relationships with Nichtstein and Franken, given the fact that they are still Eiffelland’s allies in the Germanian League, and Nichtstein is in a personal union with Eiffelland. Continuation of good relations with Sikandara, Ivernia, Arendaal and all other countries Eiffelland has good relations with. Continuation of current good relations with Tyrrhenia, and the building up of good relations with The Commonwealth.
Solaren: Eiffelland cannot retreat its troops before a well‑functioning constitutional state has been grounded there. That state can have a socialist structure, but only if the majority of the Solaris people want that. With emphasis: The majority of the Solaris people, which is not by definition the same as a majority within the SNC. A new constitution must be voted upon by all Solaris in a referendum. It is our opinion that the new Solaris Constitution should not contain any stipulations on the economy. Any radical changes regarding the economy must be taken by a parliament that has been voted for by the people of Solaren.
Commonwealth/Danmark: Continuation of cooperation with the current leader of the Commonwealth, Franz Kammerschen.
Defence: Eiffelland cannot maintain its independence without a strong defence. More attention will be paid to the air force as well as the aeroplanes and helicopters in the navy. The land army will be equipped with more helicopters. More money will go to innovations in defence techniques. We need to become more aware of espionage activities by countries we don’t have friendly relations with; therefore, no budget reductions for the Staatsschutz.
Economic: Continuation of the Social Market Economy. Because of the nature of this system, it needs to be permanently surveyed so that the need for adaptations can be detected as soon as they occur. Additional stimulation of Dassau Flugzeugwerke. Extension of the motorway network, construction of the Trierer Stadautobahn around the city centre, and extension of busy motorways from 2x2 tracks to 2x3 tracks.
Education and science: Education at the Eiffellandian state schools and universities is free of charge. This needs to stay. Furthermore, the need for stipendia needs to be investigated. No structure change in the secondary education. We want to continue stimulating science. Eiffelland is large enough to excel in all scientific topics, but is mainly famous for its biomedical discoveries. We will continue to stimulate that. Furthermore, we want to continue our cooperation with Franken and Nichtstein regarding space travel.
Health care: The current system remains in effect, i.e. everybody is obliged to be insured for health care. Everybody is a member of the Krankenkasse of the commune where he or she lives, unless he or she can prove that he or she is insured for health care at a private company. Krankenkasse-premiums are imposed as a percentage of the family income, with an upper limit.
Ethics: No abortion, unless the life or health of the child-bearing woman is in danger. This is and must remain the current legislation in Eiffelland. More help for unmarried pregnant women; they committed a sin, but there must be room for forgiveness, and their children must not become the victim of this sin. The current legislation of sexual intercourse between persons of the same gender (legal from 18 years of age, and from 16 years of age when the age difference is not more than 731 days) remains unchanged; this legislation was the object of severe conflicts until King Albrecht signed for it in 1950, and we don’t want to open those discussions again. Condoms will have to remain legal. The separation of church and state must remain in effect; it is up to the Church and not up to the state to judge about preservative measures and homosexuality.

Sozialdemokratische Partei Eiffellands (SPE) (red)
General: Sociodemocratic.
The relations with Carentania must be improved. As soon as the war in Yujin is over, the events in that war must be evaluated, especially the chemical and biological attacks. Also the actions taken by the Eiffellandian government must be investigated.
Solaren: Eiffelland must retreat from Solaren as soon as the SNC is able to manage the country on its own. The cooperation between Eiffelland on the one hand and the SNC and Carentania on the other hand must improve. The SNC has the last word in Solaren, also w.r.t. the new constitution. The military presence of Eiffelland in Solaren must be reduced immediately, so that no conscripts have to be deployed outside Eiffelland.
Commonwealth/Danmark: Continuation of cooperation with the current leader of the Commonwealth, Franz Kammerschen. Furthermore, the conscripts currently involved in military operations in Danmark must be replaced with professional soldiers currently stationed in Solaren.
Defence: Eiffelland’s armed forces are large enough as they are. Reductions may even be possible. This has to be investigated.
Economic: Continuation of the Social Market Economy, but taxes must become more progressive. No extension of the motorway network, no construction of the Trierer Stadautobahn around the city centre, and no extension of busy motorways from 2x2 tracks to 2x3 tracks. Instead, public transport must be stimulated.
Education and science: Education at the Eiffellandian state schools and universities is free of charge. This needs to stay. Furthermore, stipendia need to be introduced for students of poor families. No structure change in the secondary education. We want to continue stimulating science, and more cooperation with Carentanian and Tyrrhenian universities. We want to continue our cooperation with Franken and Nichtstein regarding space travel.
Health care: Private health care insurances must be abolished; everybody must be insured through the Krankenkassen. No class differences in health care.
Ethics: Currently, abortion is only allowed if the life or health of the child-bearing woman is in danger. We want to legalise abortion up to 12 weeks pregnancy duration also for other than medical reasons. Current legislations on homosexuality and condom use must remain in effect.

Frei-Demokratische Volkspartei (CDV) (blue)
General: Market liberal.
Eiffelland must actively fight the collectivisation of the Solaris economy, unless the majority of the Solaris wants to go for a Socialist system. This must be determined in a referendum; we cannot assume any more that the SNC correctly represents the opinions of the Solaris.
Commonwealth/Danmark: Continuation of cooperation with the current leader of the Commonwealth, Franz Kammerschen. We realise that this man has a leftwing agenda for the Commonwealth, but trying to change those ideas will only further complicate the situation in the Commonwealth. We have to see what we can do on the longer term.
Defence: Eiffelland must keep strong armed forces if it wants to keep its independence. More attention will be paid to the air force as well as the aeroplanes and helicopters in the navy. The land army will be equipped with more helicopters. More money will go to innovations in defence techniques. The budget of the Staatsschutz will be increased so that it can pay even more attention to counterespionage activities.
Economic: Continuation of the Social Market Economy, but with more emphasis on the needs of the companies.
Stipendia are out of the question.
Health care: The Krankenkassen were originally meant for the people with lower incomes. This must become the leading principle again. People who earn a certain income must leave the Krankenkasse and take a private insurance. Private insurance companies must be obliged to accept everybody leaving the Krankenkasse because of income reasons.
Ethics: Currently, abortion is only allowed if the life or health of the child-bearing woman is in danger. We want to legalise abortion up to 12 weeks pregnancy duration also for other than medical reasons. Current legislations on homosexuality and condom use must remain in effect.

Liberal-Demokratische Partei (LDP) (yellow)
General: Slightly market‑liberal, leftwing in social issues.
As soon as the war in Yujin is over, the events in that war must be evaluated, especially the chemical and biological attacks. Also the actions taken by the Eiffellandian government must be investigated, so that we can learn from it for the future.
Solaren: Eiffelland cannot retreat its troops before a well‑functioning constitutional state has been grounded there. The SNC must make sure that it develops a constitution that follows the will of the Solaris as much as possible. The new constitution of Solaren must be approved by the Solaris in a referendum. We advice the SNC to make a constitution for Solaren that leaves as much room as possible to follow whichever path the Solaris want to follow, be it Socialist, a Social Market Economy, or full-blown capitalist. Or an authoritarian democracy.
The long‑range bombers mainly bomb large areas without any precision; they destroy large areas, killing many people, but are hardly effective in the sense that they do not always bomb what they need to bomb. This was shown several times during the Solaris war. Therfore, the long‑range bomber divisions need to be abolished; they can be replaced with fighter divisions. No budget reductions for the Staatsschutz.
Economic: Continuation of the Social Market Economy. Because of the nature of this system, it needs to be permanently surveyed so that the need for adaptations can be detected as soon as they occur. Extension of the motorway network, and extension of busy motorways from 2x2 tracks to 2x3 tracks, but no construction of the Trierer Stadautobahn around the city centre.
Education and science: Education at the Eiffellandian state schools and universities is free of charge. This needs to stay. Furthermore, stipendia need to be introduced for students of poor families. No structure change in the secondary education.
However, people who earn a certain income must leave the Krankenkasse and take a private insurance.

Pazifistische Reformpartei (PRP) (green)
General: Centrist in economics, leftwing in civil freedoms, focus on disarmament, pacifism and constitutional reforms.
Constitution: Abolishment of the monarchy. National elections every two years. New laws must not only be voted upon in the Staatstag and the Staatsrat, but also in referenda. It must be possible for the people to fire members of local and provincial governments, as well as members of the national government. This must happen in referenda.
Foreign affairs: Continuation of current cordial relationships with Nichtstein and Franken, given the historic ties. Continuation of good relations with Sikandara, Ivernia, Arendaal and all other countries Eiffelland has good relations with. Continuation of current good relations with Tyrrhenia, and the building up of good relations with The Commonwealth.
The military presence of Eiffelland in Solaren must be reduced as soon as possible.
Commonwealth/Danmark: Continuation of cooperation with the current leader of the Commonwealth, Franz Kammerschen. However, the Eiffellandian armed forces must be retreated.
Defence: Eiffelland can defend itself with much smaller armed forces. The current government is ridiculously paranoid about any threats from the countries surrounding us. It is possible to improve our relations with Carentania and the RDTO, so that our armed forces can be reduced.
Partei für das Christliche Leben (PCL) (violet)
General: Theocratic‑democratic, slightly leftwing in economics.
The current events in Yujin must be investigated.
Solaren: Eiffelland cannot retreat its troops before a well‑functioning constitutional state has been grounded there. That state can have a socialist structure, but only if the majority of the Solaris people want that. A new constitution must be voted upon by all Solaris in a referendum.
Commonwealth/Danmark: Continuation of cooperation with the current leader of the Commonwealth, Franz Kammerschen.

Economic: Continuation of the Social Market Economy. Because of the nature of this system, it needs to be permanently surveyed so that the need for adaptations can be detected as soon as they occur. Additional stimulation of Dassau Flugzeugwerke. Furthermore, the taxes need to become more progressive: Higher taxes for the higher incomes, and lower taxes for the lower incomes. Extension of the motorway network, construction of the Trierer Stadautobahn around the city centre, and extension of busy motorways from 2x2 tracks to 2x3 tracks.
Education and science: Education at the Eiffellandian state schools and universities is free of charge. This needs to stay. Ethics: No abortion, unless the life or health of the child-bearing woman is in danger. This is and must remain the current legislation in Eiffelland. More help for unmarried pregnant women; their children must not become the victim of the sin of the parents. Sexual intercourse outside marriage must be forbidden, and sexual intercourse must only serve the conception of children. Therefore, condoms must be forbidden. Also homosexuality must be forbidden again. The state must take up an active role in preventing sins.

Kommunistische Partei Eiffellands (KPE) (red)
General: Socialist Carentanian style.
Constitution: Abolishment of the monarchy.
Foreign affairs: Continuation of current cordial relationships with Nichtstein and Franken, given the historic ties. Continuation of current good relations with Tyrrhenia, and the building up of good relations with The Commonwealth. Improvement of the relations with RDTO‑membercountries. The relations with Carentania must be improved, given the fact that this country gives the example that every country should follow.
Commonwealth/Danmark: Continuation of cooperation with the current leader of the Commonwealth, Franz Kammerschen.
Defence: Eiffelland’s armed forces are large enough as they are. Reductions may even be possible. This has to be investigated.
Economic: Collectivisation of the agricultural and the industrial sector, as well as all companies with more than 20 employees.
Furthermore, stipendia need to be introduced for all students. The first four years of education need to be combined in an Oberschule. The students who want to go to universtity get 3 additional years of education in the Erweiterte Oberschule. We want to continue stimulating science, and more cooperation with Carentanian and Tyrrhenian universities. We want to cooperate with the RDTO regarding space travel.
Current legislations on condom use must remain in effect. Homosexuals must be treated for their disorder so that they are able to form healthy relationships with people of the opposite gender again.

Volksunion (brown)
General: Mezhist‑nationalist.
Foreign affairs: Continuation of current cordial relationships with Nichtstein and Franken, given the fact that they are still Eiffelland’s allies in the Germanian League, and Nichtstein is in a personal union with Eiffelland. Continuation of good relations with Sikandara, Ivernia, Arendaal and all other countries Eiffelland has good relations with. However, the relations with RDTO‑membercountries must be severed. It is ridiculous that Eiffelland maintains good relations with its post‑delegationist neighbour.
Solaren: Eiffelland must cooperate with the Alleanza della Fede so that that alliance can take over the power in Solaren. The protests in Solaren clearly show that the Solaris want to have an authoritarian society; we must follow that wish.
Commonwealth/Danmark: We helped the government by supporting the deployment of conscripts outside Eiffelland so that our Germanic brothers in Danmark would be protected against an unworthy government in Christiansborg. However, we feel betrayed, now that the government is supporting the leftist Mr. Kammerschen. We will only continue to give our support to the government if it stops supporting Mr. Kammerschen and starts supporting the Germanic Mezhists in the Commonwealth.
Defence: Eiffelland must keep strong armed forces if it wants to keep its independence. More attention will be paid to the air force as well as the aeroplanes and helicopters in the navy. The land army will be equipped with more helicopters. More money will go to innovations in defence techniques. The budget of the Staatsschutz will be increased so that it can pay even more attention to activities against leftwing countries and movements.
Economic: Continuation of the Social Market Economy, but with more emphasis on the needs of the companies.
Stipendia are out of the question. No structure change in the secondary education. We want to continue stimulating science. Eiffelland is large enough to excel in all scientific topics, but is mainly famous for its biomedical discoveries. We will continue to stimulate that. We want to legalise abortion up to 12 weeks pregnancy duration also for other than medical reasons. Current legislations on condom use must remain in effect. Homosexuality must be forbidden again, and punished with long‑term imprisonments.

Current polls show the following results.

CDV: Currently 141 seats; foreseen 152 seats.
SPE: Currently 119 seats; foreseen 125 seats.
FDV: Currently 118 seats; foreseen 97 seats.

PRP: Currently 35 seats; foreseen 33 seats.
PCL: Currently 12 seats; foreseen 14 seats.
KPE: Currently 10 seats; foreseen 10 seats.

Sikandara mounts pressure on Yujin for Sixia Peace Talks
AP Jingbao

According to reports, the Government of Sikandara has engaged in intense diplomatic dialogue with the Government of Yujin to have its representatives return to the Sixian peace talks aimed at ending hostilities between the Southlanders and the Imperial forces. It is said that, the Sikandari have mounted a campaign aimed at pressurizing the Imperial Yujiner side to address the issues around the surrender of Republican forces at a later date.

It is also suggested in the same reports that the Sikandari government is seeking to have its own representatives be present as observers in the proceedings, as Shahdara is said to be losing patience with the inertia over the question of reconciliation with the south. Further, some claim that faith in the diplomatic muscle of Sixia might be wavering, which prompted the Sikandaris to seek direct involvement in a meeting which they had remained largely absent from earlier.

The Sikandari Government, upon questioning about its stance on Yujin's use of chemical weapons, released a statement in which its spokesman said that they had a stance and that fact had been communicated to the Yujiner Government. The statement was deemed wholly unsatisfactory by international journalists.

Cardinal Anselmo Humberto Ureña forms the Church of Auraria!
AP Heredia

Today, Cardinal Anselmo Humberto Ureña, returned from the Conclave in Tiburtina prematurely and made a declaration before all the people of Auraria. The declaration has without a doubt, shocked the nation. People around the Cardinal.

“I must confess, I have often had my hesitations with the practices of the Tiburan Catholic Church. For thirty years I’ve served as Archdiocese of Heredia, always reviewing and analyzing the relationship between God and man. In Tibur, I see the fruit of our labors. Tibur is a beautiful city, the buildings show the wealth and power of the Tiburan Catholic Church, but more than that – they show the disconnect. Our faith in God does not entitle us to the life of privilege seen in Tibur.”

The Cardinal began with a less than optimistic retelling of his trip overseas. He spoke of the poverty he saw in Tiburtina and the grand nature of the Church. The Cardinal criticized the role of the Church, specifically in the Church’s influence in Auraria and the people of whom it’s appointed to lead the varying churches across the country. The Cardinal spent a great deal of time criticizing the money collected by Aurarian Churches being sent to Tibur and spent the way it is.

“I believe firmly now, and it is not easy for me to say, the Tiburan Catholic Church has strayed from the teaching of Jesus Christ and now works on the accumulation of power across the globe. Historically and currently, the word of God has been used to incite fear as opposed to love, drive war as opposed to peace. The decision has been long considered and discussed among Aurarian circuits before, but now I am committed to my path. The Aurarine Catholic Churchs are to break off from the rule and influence of the Pope in Tibur and instead, we will return to the people of Auraria with the newly proclaimed Church of Auraria, independent from outside influences.”

Later in the Cardinal’s speech, he spoke on what he believed to be the root of the Church’s betrayal of the LORD’s word:

“The oppression of women and difference, slavery, racism, and poverty has entered the Church’s structure and solidified itself as official church policy. I stand here today and proclaim that these ills are not inherent to a church, but to capitalism. Auraria’s problems are byproducts of a Tiburan Catholic Church estranged from the word of God and fueled by a capitalist fervor to make faith compatible with wealth collection.”

Opposition efforts fail to topple Belmontien government
AP Villesen

Earlier today, Mme. Shahrazad Martinique, the leader of the Liberals, brought forward a motion of no confidence against the government of Premier Millerand, following further allegations against government ministers relating to their involvement in the Belmont Railways corruption scandal, which has turned into a toxic matter for the government. The motion of no confidence was supported in Parliament by the Nationalists, the October Movement for Germanic Rights, and the Parti des Florians. Yet despite the unified approach from the opposition, the motion obviously failed as the ruling Democratic Movement (DM) controls 40% of the seats and is aligned with the Christian Democrats, who have a further 11%. The motion was defeated 153 to 147.

However, the opposition has been successful in damaging the reputation of Premier Millerand, as his ratings and that of his party continue to slide, while the opposition asserts that Premier Millerand is not fit for the job and that he is mismanaging the country.

Students organize protests after the "19th of July Protocols" leak
AP Kuressaare

The students from the University of Kuressaare and from the Polytechnic have taken onto the streets today after the group called the Friends of the Saaremaa Democracy have leaked the plans of the regime to undermine the sovereignty of the Kingdom of Bangala. It is the second time the students organize and start a protest that is literally blocking the downtown of the capital of Saaremaa, the first one being the last year, when prince Ott Andrus was acquitted after organizing a terrorist attack. The students are demanding an end to the imperialism shown by the dictatorial regime led by Mihkel Vaino against the Himyari state, an end to the political repression and a return to the 1913 constitution, literally asking for the demise of the National Revolutionary State and the return of House Saar and the monarchy.

Student protests were used by the stratocratic and later meritocratic regime to legitimize their coup d'etat against the monarchy in April 1953. Even if there have been attempts to organize protests and demonstrations, the ones involved were quickly arrested, but this time the size of the movement shocked many, both from the demonstrators side and the regime's side. There are voices that currently believe that the government will order the police and if needed the army to break the protests as quickly as possible, bu the majority of the world's political analysts believe that the government is afraid to move against them, as they may lose their legitimacy through that action.

Protesters blockade the Ivernian Embassy
AP Villesen

The Embassy of Ivernia has been blockaded by 5000 members of the Germanic fishing community to bring attention to the lingering disputes between them and Ivernian fishermen who have begun harassing Belmontien vessels in the South Gothic Sea. The protest which has received the support of the German nationalist October Movement political party has been sitting in-front of the embassy since last evening. The protesters have been chanting slogans and making noise with empty pots and pans, but for the most part they are not behaving in a concerning manner, according to the capital city's police.

The Government of Belmont has deployed additional units to the vicinity of the Ivernian embassy and Alderburgh has been assured that their diplomatic mission was to be protected as is expected. The protestors have stated that they have no intention of leaving the area until the Ambassador of Ivernia does not listen to their issues himself. The Government of Belmont has been treading a precarious line as the Germanic fishing community has expressed its opinion that a lack of an official solution was due to government apathy owing to the fact that they belonged to the ethnic minority.

The High Kingdom of Ivernia wishes to complain over this poor piece of biased journalism from the normally independent APwire.

As was stated to the Government of Belmont on the 10th of May the Ivernish Government is investigating the accusations of harassment on International Waters. As of this moment the investigation is still occurring and no statement is expected from An Garda Síochána and the Naval Service of Ivernia until the investigation is complete.

As such we in the High Kingdom of Ivernia demands that APwire redact the following line:

''Ivernian fishermen who have begun harassing Belmontien vessels in the South Gothic Sea''

This line is entirely based on no solid evidence at this time and should read as ''alleged harassment, based on accusations by the townfolk.''

The true question should be why the Belmontian Government has not informed those townsfolk that the Ivernish Government is currently pro-actively investigating the issue, and why would the Belmontian Government not inform them, allowing, propagating and cultivating such a distracting event?

Marshall Vaino resigns
AP Kuressaare

While protests and demonstration marches have engulfed the whole nation, the organization of the a symbolic "Government of the Streets" led by the leader of the Social Democrats, Riina Lepp and the return of the government in exile from Ivernia, led by Anna Sepp, have been the coup de grace against the military government and the dictatorship of Marshall Mihkel Vaino. The dictator held a speech in front of the Kadriorg Palace and declared that he resigns and with this, the National Revolutionary State is declared dead.

The royal family of Saaremaa will also return soon back in the country, this time as simple citizens, not as sovereigns, as King Alvar VI declared that he will accept the people's wish and he will support the creation of a democratic republic in Saaremaa. The two governments (the one in exile and the "street government") decided to form a national unity government, led by Riina Lepp until the elections which will take place in three months. The two leaders decided that the constitution of the republic will be based on the monarchist one, with the differences being the naming of the country, from Kingdom to Democratic Republic and the status of the head of state, being elected every 4 years, instead of hereditary succession and will be voted in the parliament in a month's time.

Mihkel Vaino, along with Linda Tarvas, Jaak Raud, Kalev Soosaar, Paavo Laht and many others were arrested and will soon be trialed for treason, for undermining the national economy and for crimes against humanity.

Cidonia loosens freedom of speech restrictions
AP Cid City

In a surprising move, Viktor Nazar, leading dictator of the National Cidonian Workers Party, has declared that restrictions on freedom of press would be lifted to a certain degree. In a nation with only one news broadcaster, this move is a decisive push in the right direction for Cidonia. While private broadcasters are still forbidden, and are taken down as soon as possible, the possibility of a foreign funded news broadcaster to rise in Cidonia gives hope to many intellectuals and more libertarian people within Cidonia.

"We have been pushing for this to get through in the People's Assembly and we are glad it finally got through. Things have been all about the secession of the north and the reunification war in the past and people noticed how one-sided the reports ended up being" said a People's Representative of the Assembly who wished to remain anonymous "but now we can also hear from the other side of the war. There are good and bad people on each side of the war, but this could help in patching up Cidonia".

Cidonian leader Viktor Nazar also declared the end of the civil war and lifted curfews as well. The state of war ended, he declared today a national holiday as Reunification Day. The reunification war of Cidonia cost over 2,000 lives and displaced over 800,000 people.

Millerand Government toppled as corruption scandal worsens
AP Villesen

The Government of Belmont's official spokesperson announced earlier today that the Belmontien Premier had offered his resignation to the President after reports emerged that several ministers of his government were involved in a series of corruption scandals and illegal deals with companies for preferential treatment. The Millerand Government had, for the past few weeks been rocked by an ever growing stream of corruption allegations which spiraled out of control, with senior political allies of the former Premier either in house arrest or, infamously so, in the case of the Belmontien foreign minister, who escaped from Belmont to Twente under the guise of a pilgrim. Documents obtained by the Villesen Bureau reveal that various members of the Millerand Government collectively were involved in corruption deals totaling 125 million Livres. The cases are under investigation.

Following that announcement, it was also declared that the Republic was to hold a new election to determine a new government. The President, who shall be visiting Tiburtina for the royal festivities, has announced that in the interim period, the Speaker of the Parliament would assume the duties of the Premier. The news of the resignation of Premier Millerand was met with quiet optimism by the main opposition parties which have been mounting vigorous campaigns across Belmont against the government since the first corruption allegations were leveled against the Millerand administration. The smaller parties were outright jubilant following the announcement of the news.

Cidonian Liberals and Leftists desperate
AP Cid City

With the loosening of press restrictions many of the Cidonian leftists and liberals, those who did not go into exile or hiding, were hoping that with the lifting of restrictions through the Press Act 1954 that news could be spread throughout the nation without bias, but there are still many hurdles.

"Right now what we are doing is making flyers with a basic printing press. It is very time intensive and it is hard to get by the resources. Officials are trying to put us off of the idea as much as possible" said an underground Communist who wished to remain anonymous. "We need foreign investors. I ask other countries: please support our cause!" he pleaded to me.

Graffiti has begun to sprout on apartment blocks and bridge underpasses and this has already led to some Senators pointing fingers and hoping these will give them enough reason to cancel the act. A graffiti artist in Jogorsk was arrested only yesterday after being caught red-handed, literally and figuratively speaking, whilst "tagging" a police building. "Tagging" is the term used by graffiti artists to indicate that they have made some artwork of one kind of another.

"The perpetrator had been writing slanderous messages against the police and army and before he could get to his third profane word we caught him. The perpetrator had been tagging the police building at 03:32 and was told to wash it off." Chief Inspector Falgoz Melanski said at the press conference that got quite a lot of air time on CNN today.

Meanwhile in the northern city of Berezhino 23 protestors were arrested for disturbing the peace. According to AP News sources the protestors were actually a group of homeless people and they have been sent to jail for an indefinite amount of time. While Cidonia is intending to show themselves as freedom-loving on the outside, the country still has a long way to go.

As Liberals form government, tensions likely to flare
AP Villesen

Recent elections, while not delivering a single party the needed number of seats, have transformed Belmontien politics. The meteoric rise of the Democratic Movement and their subsequent disgraceful fall has toppled the three party system. A woman stands on the edge of becoming the first female Premier of Belmont and the Liberals are forming their first government in thirty years. And this new situation is reflected on the foreign policy front as well, which will witness a situation where a serious re-think is being advocated by the Premier-designate.

Shahrazad Martinique during her campaign voiced serious criticism of Twente, the religious and spiritual heartland of Catholicism and Catholics in Belmont, for that country's support in the absconding of Foreign Minister Plantard who escaped Belmont when allegations were raised against him on a series of corruption issues. Madame Martinique has said that she would seek an immediate return of the former Foreign Minister. This is bound to cause tension with the Twentish Government. With Ivernia, the Liberals have sought to deescalate tensions that had emerged recently over the fishing disputes, though they remain quiet on how best to handle the Ivernian issue, as local sentiments remain mildly antagonistic towards the Ivernians.

The leader of the Liberal Party has also said in the past that she would not be opposed to greater cooperation between the Francophone states, a move which is aimed to most likely appease the main opposition party, the Nationalists.

Belmontien premier demands return of absconded politician from Twente
AP Villesen

Following her election, Premier Shahrazad Martinique has spoken in Parliament saying that she wants the Government of Twente to cooperate with Belmont and return former Foreign Minister Plantard, who absconded to Twente under the rouse of pilgrimage to escape corruption allegations. The Liberals have stated that they respect the sanctity of pilgrimage but were thoroughly opposed to that right being granted and its subsequent abuse by individuals who are under investigation or implicated in corruption deals worth millions. In her speech, Premier Martinique criticised the Twentish Government for continuing to provide refuge for the former politician even when presented with evidence by the Ambassador of Belmont.

The Premier of Belmont has demanded the return of the former foreign minister, who served in the disgraced Millerand Government, which was followed by a declaration in parliament which saw unanimous support being granted to the Premier's statement. The populace of Belmont, despite being deeply religious, has also questioned the continued protection of former Foreign Minister Plantard by the Twentish Government.

Cidonian officials criticize emergency resolution in Dietsland - Pro-Nationalist and Anti-Nationalist marches planned
AP Cid City

The recent ban of the far-right National People's Party in Dietsland has led to many frowning faces in Cidonia. The "undemocratic" and "oppressive" move by the Dietsland government was condemned by the National Cidonian Worker's Party. The government was not available for comments on their own one-party system and the fact that there is only one media, which is state-owned. However, a new poll in Cidonia has shown that 76.54% of Cidonians (questioned amount of people was 1232) are in favour of the dictatorship leading Cidonia by the one and only party, the NCWP. Undercover, I managed to get some interviews with Cidonians off of the street, who all remained anonymous.

"The unemployment is still an issue, yes, but crime is low. Very low, I like to live in Cidonia like this. Sometimes we lack things, new fashion or electronics, but eventually they come and it's no problem. I prefer safety" said one citizen. Another one said "I really hope that foreign countries invest in the new initiative by CNN, that Cidonian Today thing. It would give people a voice. Some things are good, but some things are bad and I would like those bad things to be fixed" and one older man was specifically ardent about the Cidonian government. "CIdonia is great. We have foreigners yes, but they respect the country. Learn the language, work. The unemployed? Yes, there are some, but the army is good. You can find a job if you look. They are not looking right." when asked if he was working for the government he laughed and said he was a simple painter.

A protest march in solidarity for the Nationalist movement in Dietsland was planned for 19:00 in the Sortain Square later today and up to 10,000 people are expected to come. A protest march against nationalism was planned at the same time, only two blocks away and up to 8,000 people are expected. The Cidonian police have increased their presence in downtown Cid City today as a result and are keen on keeping the two parties away from each other. The right to demonstrate has not been stripped from Cidonian's yet, and in a country that is slowly opening itself, time will tell if they are on the right path. This night will be a decisive one.

Prominent Catholic activist detained in Pindorama
AP International

The Tiburan Catholic Church has confirmed reports the leader of Catholic Action in Pindorama Alberto Blanco Marquez is being held by Pindoraman authorities. Alberto Blanco Marquez was apprehended in his home following a speech to Catholic social and political activists in the city of Cartago del Sur, in which he condemned government sterilisation programmes, which target mentally and physically disabled men and women.

The Pindoraman government maintains most sterilisations are voluntary, either agreed by the person themselves or their immediate relatives if they are dependent. Conversely, Alberto Blanco Marquez claims to hold a wealth of anecdotal evidence suggesting the vast majority of sterilisations are forced procedures.

Relations between Pindorama and the Tiburan Catholic Church have been unsteady ever since the Dynamist regime came to power in 1934. One of the first acts of the new regime was an attempt to force the Tiburan Catholic Church in Pindorama to become a separate entity subject to greater governmental oversight. Facing popular resistance at home and international outcry, the Dynamists eventually retreated, and in 1941 a concord of understanding was signed between Pindorama and the Tiburan Catholic Church.

The Dynamist government now promotes the Cult of the Supreme Force, described by one commentator as "essentially a secularised Christianity", as an alternative faith to the Tiburan Catholicism. The Tiburan Catholic Church prohibits its followers from being in both movements.

The Tiburan Catholic Church has stated Church leaders are currently in the process of negotiating the release of Alberto Blanco Marquez. If freed, Alberto Blanco Marquez is likely to be exiled - a common fate for most dissidents in Pindorama.

The Republic of Baia do Rio Azul views the arrest of Mr. Marquez as very worrying developement. Pressure on christian denominations and churches will serve to weaken Pindoramas standing in the Occidentan community. We implore our neighbours in Pindorama to release Mr. Marquez if no actions with legal relevance can be attributed to him. We furthermore desire guarantuees that Brazulian citizens will not face similiar repressive measures for their beliefs, when in Pindorama for private or business visits.
