FLEET WEEK USHERS IN SPRING! The annual parade and fleet demonstration in Baldwin - Whitehall kicks off Monday. The celebratory Continental Navy to sail a parade of ships to its allies and overseas naval bases. You must be registered for see links By Charlie Caruthers Baldwin - Whitehall The 20th Annual Army and Navy celebrations, otherwise known to many as Fleet Week, has once again ushered in the spring season here in Baldwin - Whitehall and the rest of Sylvania as citizens from across the country as well as foreigners come and celebrate the power and glory of our nation. This year will be a special one as Sylvania continues to enjoy the success it had over the Danish Imperium in the Faroes and in general, included in the celebrations will be the captured battleships and aircraft carriers now finished with their refit and fully operational. Included in the celebration will be a ticker tape parade celebrating our fighting men as they parade down the Avenue of Industrialists. There will be exhibits for children and adults alike to visit, including exhibits based upon the nations Sylvania is allied with in the Tripartite Agreement and the Occidental Defense Intelligence Network (ODIN) open all during the week. It is no mistake the Fleet Week coincides with the military's annual recruitment drive and volunteer numbers are already showing a marked increase this week before the events have even begun. Recruiting drives during Fleet Week have always drawn protestors, this year protestors from religious groups that have been unsuccessfully campaigning against the government's change to a more interventionist and alliance friendly foreign policy will be out in force tomorrow as the parades, air shows and other events begin. The Continental Marines and Continental Army will be marching down the Avenue of Industrialists and across the Mayor John Burton suspension bridge while the Continental Navy sails underneath with the captured ships and a host of destroyers and cruisers following behind. Mayor Mack K. Burton, son of the city's previous mayor John Burton has closed the schools and government offices for the entirety of Fleet Week so that all may join in the festivities and to reduce road congestion. Tourists from across the country and the world have filled the city's and the surrounding metropolitan area's hotels, hotels within the city are reporting 100% completely occupied. As a change to this years Fleet Week, the Continental Navy is planning a world tour of sorts to its oversees bases and allies beginning at the end of the Fleet Week. The Navy's first destination will be the Redstone Naval Base in the Faroes and then it is on to Fey, Asylan, Østveg, Ivernia, the Free Cities league, Ivernia and as a final international stop Beautancus. The tour will conclude with a tour of the Sylvanian East Coast cities of Charleroi and Duquesne. This is the first time that the Continental Navy has decided to carry out a goodwill campaign toward its allies and the nations hosting Sylvanian naval bases. ​

Fleet Week & the International Naval Tour.

No arrangements have yet been made for the Crowned Provinces to receive the warships of the Continental Navy.

Many of the warships of the Crowned Navy and of the other naval forces which would have been employed in receiving the warships of our ally during this tour have been heightened readiness in anticipation of security operations along the Black Coast. The majority of our capital vessels have had their complements completed with crews drawn from the Permanent Service, and are due to being deployed to Western Himyar to reinforce our security efforts along the Black Coast. A programme of such ships of the Crowned Navy as remain in commission at home, and worthy of receiving warships of the Continental Navy, has not yet been arranged, and must depend largely on the course of events on the Himyari Continent. When the programme of these ships is arranged, the Government of the Continental Republic may feel assured that the Fleet Week International Tour, which has already been advanced by the States-General to the Crowned Government for eager participation, will receive a formal invitation from the Admiraal-van-Leidschendam.

As such, I ask the Government of the Continental Republic whether it would consider an exhibition of her warships, as part of the tour, can be arranged in the Crowned Provinces during the forthcoming tour months, so that an ally and friend of the Continental Republic may see some of the men and the ships which have done so much to sustain the security and prosperity of the oceans of Europe.

THE ERDENSHIRE CRISIS. ​ President Rygaard writes on the crisis. Sander Rygaard Opinion ​ ​ Once again the Tribune has been gracious enough to provide me with space to speak directly to their readers. Sylvanians are a strong people, we are helpful to our neighbors and we stand tall in the face of aggression from our enemies. Once again we find ourselves threatened by an unfriendly nation state looking to bully our fellow allies into submission. They bring their guns and their ships and make uncompromising demands; many of you know what I am writing about, but for those of you who don't, let me remind you. Only a few weeks ago the Workers Republic of Carentania threatened our ally, Asylan, and demand that Asylan give up their own national territory to them as an assurance that Asylan and the Tripartite would cease supporting break away movements in the Eastern Cape. Regardless of what is thought over Augustaborg, Asylan has made every attempt to stay away from conflict by removing their men from Augustaborg and by assuring the Carentanians they would stay out of the affairs of the Eastern Cape. Yet despite all these moves on the part of Asylan, Carentania and the RDTO continue to push the demand of giving the island of Erdenshire to Carentania, a demand Asylan will not accept and a demand that the Tripartite Agreement will not accept. Yet despite all this aggression from the Red bully, we continue to search for a diplomatic solution, we have sent an offer to the Carentanians and their RDTO slave states promising a non-aggression pact between the TAAO and the RDTO and allowing oversight of Erdenshire by an unaligned nation. This compromise I believe is a sane and easy way to peace, yet we have met by silence from the diplomatic offices of the entirety of the RDTO. You see if the RDTO truly wanted peace in Himyar, peace throughout the world, they would be at the negotiating table. I have maintained that we must stay out of this crisis since its beginning, I have maintained that diplomacy, not force can solve this problem and I have continued to stay true to those positions. However I can no longer stand for the bullying that Carentania has tried to justify with their mission in the Eastern Cape. I will not stand to play the games that Carentania is playing, a game that will start a global war. I will stand as Sylvanians all will stand and demand Carentania come to the negotiating table or be ready to pay the consequences for their foolish brinksmanship. Effective immediately the Continental Navy is on high alert and time is dwindling for the Carentanian government to come and talk. The insistence by the likes of Sylvania, that speed of diplomatic approaches equals its earnest nature is a fallacy - a well intended one, that seeks to deny ones opposite in negotiations the chance to thoroughly assess an offer and investigate its potential use and shortcomings, before coming to a decision. Carentania will reply to the Tripartite offer in due time, that is all it can say on this issue at the given time.

However, we must stress the difficulty of these negotiations for the Workers' Republic, given the confusion created by the behaviour of Tripartite nations that present offers the one day only to withdraw them the next and instead present vastly different ones. The need of time to clear this confusion that was created by the Tripartite Pact in the first place should not be interpreted as an unwillingness to negotiate.

THE FAROESE REPUBLIC ​ Faroese vote for independence. Cornelius Lee​ Gamle Kongestead, Faroese Republic After several delays due to weather and civil unrest, the Faroese people have finally decided their fate. The ruling interim military council made up of leaders of the different branches of the Sylvanian military announced the results of the Faroes Referendum: eighty percent of the population voted to create the Faroese Republic, an independent nation. Upon hearing the news the Continental Congress of Sylvania ordered the ruling interim military government to step down as soon as a government was voted upon and formed by the people. While there had been a minority push for the island to join the Continental Republic of Sylvania and gain representation within the Continental Congress the campaign was easily defeated by the campaigning of Jan Skovgaard and his independence movement. It is forecast that once the new government is formed it will be under the elected leadership of Jan Skovgaard, whose popularity has soared amongst the islanders. "We were a people without a nation for too long, our Danish brothers and sisters tried to sell us into Mezhist slavery and when they couldn't do that they abandoned us. Many cried foul when the Sylvanians came here, many couldn't see that it was their intervention that stopped us from becoming slaves to some far away Samartian nation. Now we have a nation of the people by the people and we shall call out to the world and demand recognition for what we have done here. We can finally be proud of our identity, not a danish identity but a Faroese identity, an identity that belongs only to the people who live upon this island and if I should be elected leader here than I shall be honored to lead a proud and noble people." -Jan Skovgaard, candidate. Indeed many of the people here see themselves as Faroese, a separate identity from the Danes who abandoned them and they are eager to take part in the political process and build themselves a government. However the complicated realities of the Faroese - Sylvanian relationship is putting somewhat of a damper on the celebrations here. The Faroese are quickly coming to understand that there will always be a Sylvanian presence here as the Faroese, a people small in number, will become dependent on the Sylvanian military machine to afford them protection and that comes at a price. There is no doubt that the Redstone joint military compound, once a Danish military port and naval base named after J. G. Redstone the first Sylvanian killed in the crisis, will become the pivot point for Sylvania in Southern Occidentia and deep into the southern Thaumantic seas. Political analysts have told us that Redstone will be a big part of Faroese politics here and that it will be included in an agreement that will promise Sylvanian protection to the Faroese people. ​ ​

DISASTER AT TWIN ECHO ​ Reid - Dupont coke facility suffers explosion. ​ Theodore Laury Twin Echo Earlier this morning the coke plant number ten of Reid - Dupont suffered an explosion in the batteries within the plant killing at least twenty people. The Twin Echo city fire brigade along with help of the workers at the facility were able to take control of the fire that followed explosion. Fire department investigators are still unsure what caused the explosion, but many workers are coming forward with stories of shoddy maintenance work and the age of the batteries of themselves. Reid - Dupont has yet to comment on the explosion.​ IN OTHER NEWS ​ ​ Bizarre ritualistic murders strike fear into the hearts of Chalfont residents. Tiburan Catholics fear demonic presence has infected the city. Box office and winner of the Vesper Film Festival, Lucas, continues to be a popular choice for movie goers. Oil deal struck with Asylan, oil producers in Sylvania shall supply Asylan with twenty percent of Asylanian oil needs. Ivernian deal may soon be coming as Caretania and Sikandara continue to bicker over the Long Sea. ​

Tonight we are pleased to once again have the Director of Foreign Affairs: Autumn Viklund. Good evening Madam Director.

Autumn Viklund: Thank you for inviting me on the show again, it is an honor to be here.

H. K. Gallagher: Yesterday Jan Skovgaard won the presidency of the Faroese Republic becoming the first leader of the newly created independent nation. He was instrumental in blocking several proposals to integrate the island into the Continental Republic and there are rumors he may attempt to block further construction of the Redstone Military Installation located near Gamle Kongestead.

A. Viklund: Firstly Mister Gallagher don't make me lecture you on rumor - (laughs) - but that simply is not true. The Redstone Military Installation is key to Sylvanian military operations in the southern seas and while many Faroese citizens may grumble about it, Jan Skovgaard is committed to working with us to make a safer Occidentia. The base also offers wonderful employment opportunities for the Faroese people who are still in the process of building their island nation. As for Jan Skovgaard or should I say President Skovgaard, he is the kind of man that the Faroes needs to build itself back up again. I've met him prior to his election victory during a trip to the island a few months ago, he is an everyman and his words resonate with the people so much because he is just like one of them, he will be a great leader.

H. K. Gallagher: There are many on Faroe Island and even here in Sylvania who fear that our being there will slowly wipe away their culture and they will become a Sylvanian client state.

A. Viklund: Those fears are not without some legitimacy, there will be a portion of our culture that will rub off on the Faroese people as our military men and the people who work on the base and in town interact with each other, but I don't think it will wipe away their entire culture and the commanders on the base are doing what they can to limit the effects of that. There will also be many who think that Skovgaard and his government are nothing but puppets of a Sylvanian "imperial" republic, this is not true. We will not attempt to limit who their nation interacts with or how they govern their people if we wanted to do that then the Faroes would have been made a Sylvanian territory. Attempting to set up a shadow government and ruling behind the scenes serves no purpose and doing so would make us the very kind of evil that we want to destroy in this world.

H. K. Gallagher: There are reports that Brazul is looking to set up economic ties with the Faroese Republic, there will be no Sylvanian input on that deal?

A. Viklund: As I said, Sylvania will not be involved in who the Faroese set up their trade deals and government meetings with. The Faroese have a right to free trade and we will honor that right and defend it.

H. K. Gallagher: Speaking of defense, will the defense of the Faroes be up to Sylvania? I know you have refuted the claim that the Faroese Republic is a client state, but does that reliance on us for defense not make that claim true?

A. Viklund: Absolutely not, I remind you that it was Sylvania that came to the defence of the Austwegians when the Danes were attempting to assert their royal authority over them. There is no difference here, we cannot leave the island without any sort of defense or we would have another situation where a strong nation could come in and make the Faroese slaves to their whims. Who would defend the Faroes if not for Sylvania? Certainly not limp wristed Rothstein and Ommeroth.

Tonight's show takes a departure from inside the River Region politics and takes us to ancient history, our guest is Doctor Ben Cleaveland from the University of Charleroi's anthropology department.

Dr. Ben Cleaveland: Thank you for having me on the show!

H. K. Gallagher: Over the past few days it seems as though an occidental controversy has been spawned over the supposed discovery of an ancient advanced race of natives that inhabited the continent before Old World colonization.

Dr. B. Cleveland: Uh, yes, I have been following the discovery with quite sometime and I have to agree with the University of Vesterfjor's Occidentologist, Erich Rosenberg, on the matter. History has shown that there have been nothing more than a savage presence on this continent before colonization.

H. K. Gallagher: For those listeners unfamiliar with the topic of this segment we are currently discussing the recent so called revelations by a Bruzulian author that has claimed to have found evidence of an "Atlantis" underneath the lake between the borders of Seneca and Brazul.

Dr. B. Cleveland: That's correct, the whole thing has been started by some sensationalist media over a book written by someone who really has no real credentials in Occidentology or any other -ology for that matter. It's the type of news one would expect to come out of the southern regions of the continent, perpetuated by masses of uneducated men and women looking to grab on to anything that would boost their nationalist pride.

H. K. Gallagher: When you talk about nationalist pride, you are referring to the news coming out of Pindorama that attempts to corroborate the story with tales of ancient architecture and culture.

Dr. B. Cleveland: Absolutely, there is no real evidence to back up these people's claims. What better way to bring the center of attention on your home nation than to lie about archeological discoveries, it is really an insult to scholars who have spent time and money bringing the truth about this continent's past to light. Anybody who gives even the slightest credence to these claims should feel ashamed of themselves. You will find that as the settlers of this continent pushed deeper inland that nothing but the very primitive of cultures existed before our arrival and current digs and studies have found nothing that shows the opposite of what has already been established in Occidental history.

NAVAL DRILLS NEAR FAROES Elements of the Combined Thaumantic Fleet train for combat. You must be registered for see links Fighters launched from the CRN Scarlett conduct aerial drills. By Owen Riley Redstone Military Complex, Gamle Kongestead The Continental Navy has revealed that drills will take place for the next two weeks starting today in conjunction with land forces stationed at the Redstone Military Complex. This announcement follows on the heels of a previous announcement that the Redstone base will be the headquarters for the Southern Thaumantic Fleet. According to the Navy the drills will feature life fire drills and various fleet exercises; concern that the drills will disturb civilian trading in the area, a concern that the Navy has repeatedly dismissed as impossible. "Disruption of civilian traffic will be minimal, these concerns are nothing but the cries of anti-military and anti-Sylvanian types, most likely from Ommeroth." - Fleet Admiral Timothy Piett. ​ Concerns about Danish military bases in the Faroes have unsurprisingly transferred over to the Sylvanian invasion, take over and expansion of what is now the Redstone Military Complex. The complex is Sylvania's larges military base and now it has become the center for fleet operations and command in the Southern Thaumantic ocean, giving Sylvania the ability to respond to any threat that may approach or come from the entire eastern coastline of the Occidentian continent. Naturally other nations are concerned about this development, especially from the citizens and government of Ommeroth whose complaints have been repeatedly ignored by the Sylvanian government. The Islands of the Faroese Republic sit just due east of Ommeroth's coast and has been a concern of the nation for many years. ​ "The Redstone Naval Complex is the cornerstone of Sylvanian military policy going into the future, there will be no reduction of its size nor a reduction of forces in that area in the foreseeable future. No amount of complaining or posturing will change this." - Autumn Viklund, director of foreign affairs, speaking on the topic of the Redstone Military Complex. While the government continues to remain firm on the topic of the Redstone base, complaints continue to be filed by various governments and despite these complaints another resolution for further expansion of base sits in the docket of the Continental Congress. The Faroese, who signed away the land the base sits upon have remained cautious optimistic about the base and economic revival it has brought the island as it goes forward into a post-Danish way of life. ​

As always, the Union State stands beside our northern neighbors in desiring and striving towards the noble aims of lasting peace, security, and prosperity. In the pursuit of these goals, the Continental Republic ought to be commended; Sylvania having done more than most in finally ridding our fair continent of one of the final remnants of old world imperialism. The liberation of the Faroes from their Danish yolk and the inauguration of the nascent Faroese Republic both stand as worthy achievements, and history will indubitably view them as such.

Despite this view, however, the Union State will monitor the situation in the Faroes closely. The re-militarization of the Faroese isles by any other entity than the Faroese Republic itself will indefinitely be a topic of concern: however virtuous Sylvanian intentions or pivotal its role in the Continental Republic's policy going forward. Whether or not it will actively interfere with shipping, the commitment of such a massive task-force to an area of significant importance to international trade and commerce is very much controversial. Though no condemnation is or will be forthcoming, the Union State would now formally lodge a protest at the sheer scale of the Sylvanian commitment, believing now and forever that foreign hands are best had far off from native hearts.

In this regard, the Union State views the Hammond Treaty as a possible example for future developments. Free association in the same manner as the Continental Republic and the Union State are bound is to be encouraged, but the notion of direct Sylvanian ownership of the Redstone compound is as difficult to digest as Sylvanian ownership of the Kynes Fleet Yards* would be.

* The Kynes Fleet Yards, named for founding father Leland Kynes, is the largest and most important of Seneca's naval complexes. Located in the southern end of Port Republic, it's responsible for the manufacture of most Senecan vessels, and capable of servicing any class of ship at any given time. Also has historic and symbolic value.

I understand the apprehension that follows announcements like these, with such a large military force committed to training fears of what it is capable of and what the affects of such a force in the vicinity of vital trade lanes and national waters unrest is sure to follow. But make no mistake my friend, the Continental Navy is and always will be committed to the safety of the Occidentian continent. I can assure you that the Navy is taking every precaution possible to remain clear and keep clear trading vessels sailing these waters so as to minimize the dangers that come from operations like these. A well trained Continental Navy is in the best interests of all nations that work to keep our continent free of tyrants and other savage ideologies. Senecan observation is welcome as we go forward with these drills. As for the militarization of the Faroes, take note that our operations in the area are sanctioned by the Faroese government and as I have said before, a well trained Navy is in their best interests as the protection of our two nations are intertwined.

By Douglas Knutson Charleroi The Continental Republic is in a state of shock today after a terrorist attack killed the Vice President and critically injured President Rygaard. President Rygaard is currently in the hospital undergoing surgery after a grenade exploded next to him as he and several other members of the executive branch and many members of the Continental Congress were attending Constitution day celebrations in the capital today. Doctors at St. Francis hospital, were Rygaard was immediately taken following the attack, say the president is in critical condition as they work to keep him alive. The perpetrator was captured shortly after the explosion having been wrestled down to the ground by and beaten by a mob of angry and distraught citizens. Luckily police were able to take him into custody before crowd ripped him apart, no word has been released as to the terrorist's identity or motive. Meanwhile the country is faced with a crisis as many mourn the deaths of those taken by this senseless attack, while in the halls of government whispers of succession crisis are on the lips of the politicians as no clear succession laws can be gone to should the worst come to pass. Rumors have circulated that the gears of government are completely seized up as all await news on whether Rygaard will survive. Yet despite this crisis, the people of Sylvania remain resolute, but saddened by the seemingly senseless attack. Among the dead are several congressmen, several military police, whose names have not been released, and the Vice President. The device that caused the explosion has yet to be identified though many witnesses claim it was a fragmentation grenade, most commonly found in the arsenal of your common military soldier. Though we do not know the name of the terrorist, witnesses claim that he was a white man, six foot one, of an average build, with buzz cut blonde hair and blue eyes. Others claim that the man had been seen speaking with the President prior to the attack and some have speculated that he may have known the President personally. Nothing has yet been confirmed. ​

It is with the most supreme sadness that I write this letter. President Sander Rygaard is not just a colleague and peer, but also someone I consider to be a dear friend among so many less than honorable leaders of our time. The Sander Rygaard I know is - because I will not say was - is a man of character, charisma, and above all courage.

My personal prayers, as well as the prayers of the Commonfolk of Ommeroth go out to the Vice President, the President, and all those who suffered at the hands of a man I can only call a coward. May the blood shed this week be met with the swiftest justice, carried out promptly by the Sylvanian people who deserve answers and resolution to their fears.

It is with great alarm and sorrow that I received the news of these tragic events, and I must confess that a truly righteous indignation filled my chest when I learned that terrorism was the cause of Vice President Martel's death and President Rygaard's current state. In this matter more than any other, the cause of Remembrance must be truly upheld; that none forget the horror of this previous day's events, and that those responsible be held before the swift sword of justice with no amount of delay or reticence.

My prayers will be with Sander Rygaard and his family, and it is my sincere hope that he survive and pull through this attack to indeed see justice run its course. I would take a moment here to reaffirm my nation's and government's continuing commitment to our friendship and partnership with Sylvania, and simply say that we are prepared to assist the Sylvanian government in any matter with regards to investigating this attack.

To the family of Quentin Martel, I must express condolences. Though I have never met Rygaard personally, I had the pleasure to speak with Martel on many occasions; attending university together and remaining in contact ever since. He was a friend, despite our involvement in separate affairs, and I was always pleased to hear of his exploits over the years. It shocks and saddens me to no end to hear of his demise, but I have always known him to be a man of exceptional moral fiber and character, and know that he will stand tall and welcome before His Judgement Seat.

To honor Quentin Martel, I have--though I will not carry through if his family does not agree--approved the creation of a scholarship fund. The Quentin Martel Memorial Fund will provide money to well-achieving students seeking a higher education in the humanities, education, and law. I can think of no finer way to honor his memory, and pray that he would be proud of the idea.
