DEPARTMENT OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS
CONTINENTAL REPUBLIC OF SYLVANIA

To Foreign Minister Hernandez,

We in the Continental Republic are happy to be informed of the decision to keep working with each other and we are sure that any damage done in this great misunderstanding can be repaired in short time. The Continental Congress has released the funds from their frozen state and construction can continue. May I also say that The Continental Republic of Sylvania remains committed to the strengthening of the Occident's economies and to the continued growth of the Aurarian economy. However it will take some time to settle the minds of private investors and we must state that we are not responsible for the actions of private Sylvanian investors, though we will attempt to calm their fears.

In friendship,

Assistant Director Thomas Powers,
Department of Foreign Affairs

SHIPS DOCK IN SAN VICENTE
After the diplomatic crisis is solved between Auraria and
Sylvania, The Continental Navy approves docking
of Navy ships in San Vicente.
By Cornelius Lee
Charleroi

Two Sylvanian battle cruisers and four destroyers have docked at the Naval base in San Vicente, that is still
under construction. The docking of these ships came after a diplomatic row between Auraria and Sylvania
heated up not long ago over the Sylvanian Foreign Affairs office failed to notify the Aurarian government
that they would not be attending a meeting of nation in Heredia. After threatening to review the two nations
relations with each other, the Continental Congress fearing a major loss in invested money in a military base
in San Vicente froze all accounts linked the the base and furloughed all of the Aurarian men working on
constructing the base. On the fifth day, when the Continental Congress had demanded that Auraria make its
decision on whether relations really needed to be reviewed or not, an Aurarian foreign affairs communique
authorized by the Aurarian President, Reldón Vicario, would remain committed to making Occidentia secure.

The ships will be part of a security contingent that President Rygaard has developed for Southern Occidentia,
although critics have stated that the base is nothing more than an attempt to surround the Danish Faerorne
Islands with Sylvanian military power. The government has denied that allegation and stated that Sylvania
is committed to the safety of Southern Occidentia and to the safety of Auraria. It has been rumored that
there may be plans to conduct drills with the Aurarian Navy, although neither the Continental Navy nor the
Aurarian Navy have confirmed these rumors.

KELSO PROTESTORS GO ON STRIKE
Labor Unions in Kelso go on strike as government ignores calls to penalize
banks involved in the pension scandal.

By Owen Riley
Kelso

After a solid month of the government ignoring the Labor Unions
demanding that the government penalize the Western First National
Bank in Kelso for the head of the bank siphoning money from several
different union's pension funds, the protestors that stood outside the bank
and the city capital building have gone on strike, crippling the city and
leaving it unsafe. The police, municipal workers, lumberjacks, port authority
workers and the steel workers union have all gone on strike in solidarity
against the government for failing to answer their calls for help.

The city of Kelso continues to call out for other city militias, including
the Montour city militia to come and help restore order. The strikers
are threatening to call for other unions in other cities to go on strike
and are calling for everyone to stand with them and cripple the entire
west coast until the government finally gives into their demands. So far
other unions in other west coast cities have yet to do so, but they say that
if the government in Charleroi does not act soon, their could be a crisis on their
hands. Meanwhile the City of Kelso along with several corporations are
threatening to hire strike breakers to come in and put the men back to work
and stop the strikes from spreading into other sectors of business.

CONGRESS DENOUNCES FASCIST BOGAN!
Fascist Bogan guns down innocent protesters,
people now in open revolt!
By Marlon Daugherty
Charleroi

Republican revolutionaries led by the Republican Front in Bogan have taken the
southern port city of Fulcroix after the fascists government in Bogan gunned down
peaceful civilians protesting against the fascist government. The protesters who were
killed were simply asking for more representation in their government and rather
than peaceful dialogue were met with bullets. The Continental Congress along with
President Rygaard publicly denounced the actions of the Bogan government and called
for President Radegast to end this violence by stepping down and giving in to the will of
the people. President Rygaard had this to say:

"The voice of the people is heard in Bogan and it is heard in Sylvania as well.
Fascist Bogan must realize that their time is coming to an end and a time of peace
and freedom is ahead of them, I call for the fascists in Bogan to lay down your arms
and surrender before they go to far. We in Sylvania will not sit idly by while tyrannical
governments attempt to stamp their boots upon the people. To the revolutionaries in
Fulcroix I say to you, fight with all that you have, there are people out here who support
you and will stand behind you in your fight for freedom."

Many french speaking Sylvanians are already attempting to find ways to help the
revolutionaries in Bogan, including food drives and donation connections, but the
Republicans in Bogan may soon find themselves with much more help than that as the
Continental Congress deliberates on intervening in the situation and aiding the rebels.
Many are comparing this situation to the succession crisis in Østveg in which Sylvania
in an act out of character for a nation wary of foreign entanglement directly intervened
and enacted a blockade and gave weapons to the rebels, protecting the nation from a
takeover from Danmark. The resulting diplomatic embarrassment weakened the
effectiveness of Danmark's attempts to bully other nations and emboldened
Sylvania to expand its sphere of influence.

POTENZA AN INTERNATIONAL MENACE.

Raid that captured Bishop Muzzoni a breach of international sovereignty.

Robert Mason
Opinion

I'll say it here and I shall say it everywhere, Potenza is an menace to all sovereign nations. They took advantage of
Cantignia's weakened state and literally conducted an invasion of the nation to capture a supposed 'war criminal.'
Rather than negotiate with the Cantigian government they decided their best course of action to get this supposed
criminal would be to use their special forces to kill the poor mans family and then take him back to Potenzan soil.
Potenza does not care about international law or sovereignty and I would not be surprised if we see more actions
like this from this bully nation. The Nembo, the Potenzan ship that was sunk by a mysterious submarine got
what it deserved and more nations should be answering Cantignia's call to denounce this criminal nation.
Potenza's occupation has gone on for far to long and every death of a Potenzan soldier should be a wake up call
to Potenza to get out of Solaren now. To think that this nation considers itself apart of the civilized nations of the
world, it is no better than the fascists in Danmark.

PORT AUTHORITY WORKERS IN MONTOUR THREATEN TO STRIKE!

Port Authority Workers threaten to strike in solidarity with strikers in Kelso.
By Owen Riley
Kelso

What was once a protest of the banks refusal to do anything about the pension scandals that rocked both the
unions of lumberjacks and policemen in Kelso has turned into a general strike that has crippled the city and
the surrounding economy. Now unionized workers in other cities are threatening to strike, including Port
Authority workers in Montour, the largest port on the west side of Sylvania and a major entry way into the nation.
Many of the strikers are asking those who have yet to strike which side they are on, while the local governments
and the companies affected by this strike are now amassing strike breakers to attempt a breakup of the strikers.
The strikers, who have taken to the streets and have blockaded their workplaces are now fortifying their
surroundings preparing for the strike breakers. What started out as a riot against what the strikers call
the banksters or the rich men who make their money without doing real work was said to be started by
the passing around of a foreign book,
A New Edition of Critique of Political Economy: The Twentieth
Century Methodology,

Trans-Continental will be welcome at the international airports of Eiffelland.

Regarding the Solaren crisis, I have to remark that it was Solaren under Pope Urban 2 years ago who started a major war against Nicosia and Lorraine. The latter country collapsed under the burden of that war, as we all know. The same Pope Urban inflicted a despotic and corrupt regime upon the Solaris. It is thanks to countries like Lorraine, Carentania and my own country, Eiffelland, that Pope Urban's regime fell. Currently Potenza, Carentania and Eiffelland are trying to stabilise Solaren so that it won't be a threat to its neighbours any more. This process takes time. An overhasty withdrawal from Solaren by any of the current occupational forces will do nothing but disrupt the process towards a stable and prospering Solaren.

NAVY INTERCEPTS YUJINER REFUGEES!
Yujin Civil War becoming a burden on many nations.
Internment camps in Sylvania filled to the brim.

Yujiner internment camp in the Little Desert.
By Allen Blair
Montour

The Continental Navy intercepted another cargo ship full of Yujiner refugees attempting to escape the civil war in Yujin.
It was estimated that the ship held close to 1,000 men, women and children all in various states of malnourishment and
rife with infectious diseases. In previous cases these ships were allowed to make port and their passengers were immediately
boarded onto trains and sent to camps in the southwest of Sylvania but the Navy determined that the level of disease and
pestilence on board was to much of a threat to the Sylvanian Homeland and was turned back after Navy destroyers intercepted
and conducted an inspection of the ship. The Department of Immigration issued a congressionally backed set of rules to
customs and immigrations offices at all points of entry in Sylvania. The rules stated that all Yujiners would be denied entry
and put on the first transport out of Sylvania. This still has yet to solve the problem of the almost 10,000 Yujiners who have
been put into internment camps until the Sylvanian government can determine the best way to send them back to their war
torn country.

In a seperate incident a Yujiner passenger of a Trans-Occidental flight from Vesper was caught with a suitcase full of
communist propaganda made out in the major languages of Sylvania, French and English. Many in the government have
feared this was a planned attempt by the communist powers to infiltrate the Sylvanian homeland using Yujiner surrogates,
others believe the propaganda carrying Yujiner was attempting to gain access to Sylvania and drum up support for the
communist faction now fighting in the civil war. Even now Yujiners find themselves trapped in the transit zones of Sylvania's
international airports, unable to return home and their passports still fresh with the red of ink of the dreaded DENIAL stamp.
Tomorrow the police forces in these ports of entry will clear out the transit zones of the airports and put into affect the Department
of Immigrations policy. Those who cannot be sent back to the starting point in their travels will be sent to one of two internment
camps built for the Yujiner refugees who have been denied access to the Sylvanian Homeland.

The internment camps themselves are hastily put together and barely resemble anything close to a livable space, yet these camps
hold almost 10,000 Yujiners combined backed up in the process of deportation, a process which is a task that the small
government entities of the districts these camps reside in are hardly able to handle. Only recently was the Continental Army
called in to police these camps and attend to improving their design and construction, at one time they were handled by the local
militias of towns nearby that the districts called upon to help contain the flood of Yujiners. The government in Charleroi has only
just begun to tackle the immense task of taking these individuals back home, many congressmen have voiced the radical opinion
of jamming them onto ships and making them find their own way home, while others have suggested sending them to be conscripted
into Republican held territories in Yujin. Both are ideas firmly rejected by the President who has continued to take the stance of
non-interventionism when it comes to the Yujin civil war, to many it is an eastern problem, that must be solved be eastern people.

While the politicians in Charleroi argue over what should be done about the foreigners and their civil war, nations such as Cantignia
are calling for an end to a war which is now damaging their economy. Felix Ilchester, a prominent Cantigian politician running
for the office ofthe Chancellory called for an international coalition to form and find a quick way to end the war. Perhaps it is the
thought of an international coalition that might budge the indecisive politicians in Charleroi to add their minds to creating
an international solution. For now that seems almost an impossibility as the main campaigning season draws near and the
President and many congressmen find themselves up for elections.

THE STRIKE IS OVER!

Strikers in Kelso and Montour go back to work
after government authorities penalize bank involved
in pension scandal. Pensions are restored.
By Owen Riley
Kelso

The strikers will be going back to work satisfied tomorrow
knowing that their pensions are safe and will be transferred
to a more trustworthy bank. After almost a month of a half
of strikes and threats to strike the government has penalized
the bank involved in the scandal where the owner of the bank
was caught siphoning money from the pension accounts of
the Police and Lumberjack Unions.

While some are happy with the response, many others are
unhappy with how long it took for the federal government
to respond to the crisis that choked the cities of Kelso and
Montour and cost the cities millions in silverbacks. Many
wonder just how much the politicians in Charleroi care about
western Sylvanian affairs and whether the disconnect between
the two coasts is too much for their to be real representation in
the halls of the Continental Congress.

Even western Congressmen are wondering why their
voices would not be heard in the Continental Congress. Many
have criticized President Sander Rygaard's eastern focus
and are now protesting the government with signs demanding
equal representation and equal voice in the Sylvanian
government.

UNIDENTIFIED FLYING
OBJECTS?

Mysterious sounds and flying objects seen in
the Twin Echo Mountains.
By Leander Horne
Twin Echo

Are we being visited by otherworldly creatures? Many Twin
Echo residents seem to think so as they are constantly woken
up by mysterious sounds in the sky. Others are claiming that
there are mysterious lights in the sky every night. The military
which operates a base in the area has denied any involvement
in these mysterious happenings, though operations at the base
named Fort Hillary are now classified as top secret. Could it be
that the military is testing secret weapons without our
knowledge or are we really being observed by otherworldly
beings?

CARGO SHIP DESTROYED BY PIRATES!
Yujin Civil War spills out into the Implarian; the blood of hard working Sylvanians spilled.
Continental Congress votes on "limited action."

Destruction of the SCS Breckenridge. Photo shot by an escaped crew member.
By Cornelius Lee
Montour

A report has been publicly revealed today that Yujiner pirates were responsible for a previously undisclosed attack upon a Sylvanian cargo ship that occurred yesterday. The SCS Breckenridge was destroyed after Yujiner pirates, affiliation unknown, attacked the ship, raided its cargo and set it on fire, 4 crewmen were killed in the attack, the ship itself was carrying assorted cargo from Cantignia after the captain, a veteran sailor, took the ship off a well traveled shipping route in hopes of making port in Montour a day early. The remaining crew were picked up by an Austwegian destroyer that picked up on their distress signal. The attack was described as ferocious and the ship was described to be a small, outdated frigate class vessel. At the time 30 crewmen where on board and sailing under the flag of the Sylvanian merchant marine.

In Charleroi an emergency session of congress was held to decide what action should be taken in the wake of the attack on the Breckenridge. Many speeches were held condemning the attacks and describing Yujin as a failed state, although intervention in the civil war was not suggested. What was instead discussed was a strategy of wiping piracy in the Implarian Sea, a congressional vote passed authorizing the Continental Navy to form a battle group around the aircraft carrier CRS Gabrielle to sail out into the Implarian and wipe out any pirate activity whether it come from Yujin or elsewhere. Included in the vote was an authorization to consult with the Tripartite Agreement nations of Ivernia and Østveg to creating an officially backed international military movement to stop Yujiner pirates from making the Implarian unsafe for trade.

"The Continental Navy will destroy any and all pirates operating within the Implarian Ocean, we will also stop other nations that support these pirate actions from making the Implarian an unsafe ocean for trade whether they be fighting under the banner of the Communist Yujiners or the Imperial Yujiners. We will have vengeance for our fallen merchant marines. They will learn that the free world will not stand for their use of the Implarian Ocean for their petty civil war."

We strongly condemn the sinking of the SCS Breckenridge by pirates. Our condolences to the people of Sylvania, and especially to family and friends of the deceased. We will await the results of the deployment of the Sylvanian Navy to fight the pirates in the western Implarian Ocean.

VOICE OF THE REPUBLIC

Transcript of a live radio broadcast with Voice of the Republic host, H. K. Gallagher.

Part One

H. K. Gallagher: Good evening ladies and gentlemen, Sylvanians all. We are back with a special election edition of Voice of the Republic, our guests today are President Sander Rygaard and Congressman Lionel Cassard. Both men are currently running for the privilege of becoming Sylvania's executive in 1954 after beating out many other men campaigning to run from their own respective parties. President Rygaard's own Libertarian Coalition has selected him to be their front runner for the 1954 - 1957 presidency, while the National Conservatives have raised enough money to run National Conservative Congressman Lionel Cassard. Gentlemen, welcome to Voice of the Republic.

President Sander Rygaard: Thank you for this opportunity Mister Gallagher.

Congressman Lionel Cassard: Indeed, thank you Mister Gallagher.

H. K. G.: Gentlemen as we all know the sinking of the SCS Breckenridge has been on the minds of Sylvanian's everywhere. Congressman, you have been very critical of the President's decisions in the wake of the Breckenridge, perhaps we should start there.

Cassard: Yes I have been very critical of the President's response, I voted against the congressional resolution for military action and I have faced much skepticism ever since because of it, my reasoning being because of the resolutions weak response, a resolution created by Rygaard and the Libertarian Coalition members of the Continental Congress. The resolution implicitly states that control of the operation will be put in the hands of the Austwegians. Myself and the National Conservatives believe this to be a grave mistake, the Continental Navy should be leading the charge against the Yujiner pirate scum., Rygaard and his Libertarians are putting our sailors at the mercy of a foreign power, and a weak one at that.

H. K. G.: Mister President your response?

Rygaard: We all mourn the loss and injury of the merchant sailors of the Breckenridge, we put command of the operation in the hands of the Austwegians because of their superior knowledge of pirate tactics. The have been patrolling the Implaria-Oceania region for many months now attempting to fight piracy coming out of the war torn ports of Yujin. The Continental Navy is not at the mercy of the Austwegians, this is a ridiculous statement, our fighting sailors are more than capable of taking on their own missions and operations outside of the Austwegian effort, however doing so would leave us without vital intelligence that the Austwegians have already gathered. Our effort in the Implaria-Oceania region is part of a multinational operation conducted by the Tripartite Agreement Alliance that we have entered in with the Austwegians and the Ivernians.

Cassard: An alliance I voted against when it came up for vote in Congress.

H. K. G.: Please elaborate Congressman.

Cassard: Of course, I voted against the Tripartite Agreement and if I recall it took much convincing of your Libertarian fellows to vote FOR it. Sylvania does not need these two dead weight nations, the Tripartite Agreement simply adds on Østveg and Ivernia, two much weaker nations, as baggage to the growing strength of Sylvania. We do not need these two nations to project well into the Old World and if I recall it requires us to build ships and armaments for these two nations when we should be building ships for Sylvania's Navy.

Rygaard: Those agreements bring in much needed revenue into our shipbuilding industry, an industry that is very much capable of building ships for all of our nation's navies. We also very much need the support of the Ivernians and the Austwegians to help us create a more peaceful and safe world, they are like-minded nations with like-minded goals. Sylvania needs allies now and for the future.

H. K. G.: Are these nations not monarchies? A system of government and ideology you pledged to oppose along with fascism and communism?

Rygaard: You are confusing these nations for authoritarian monarchies such as Danmark, these nations are very much democratic in nature and as such are nations we can support in our fight against fascism and communism. Already we are feeling the positive affects of being allied to these two nations, economically and militarily.

Cassard: And while you were building up this 'alliance' we missed an incredible oppurtunity to do damage to the Danish Imperium when the Germanic populations of Danmark rose up agains the crown.

Rygaard: Starting a war with the Danish Imperium would have been folly to say the least. Supporting the Germanic Congress was impossible at the level we are at now, what you forget is that despite the damage the civil war did to Danmark, the Danish Navy still remained strong and would stop any support we could give. We cannot go galloping into the fray at every chance we get, to do so would put this Republic at risk of being embroiled in continuous war. We must continue to put diplomacy first rather than immediately go to war at the slightest offense. If we were to follow the gung-ho policies that Cassard advocates, Sylvania would be a beaten, broken and bankrupt nation. I will not send our young fighting men off to war without good reason and Congressman Cassard has yet to give any good reasons for why we should be at war.

VOICE OF THE REPUBLIC

Transcript of a live radio broadcast with Voice of the Republic host, H. K. Gallagher.

Part Two

H. K. Gallagher:
We are back with President Sander Rygaard and Congressman Lionel Cassard, two men campaigning for the next presidential term. Gentlemen I want to talk more about your policies toward the military. Mister President you have single-handedly strengthened the military in just short time, do you plan on continuing this trend of military expansion?

President Sander Rygaard: I talked about this many times, but will speak of it again. If we are to secure peace, we must prepare for war. It is a fact that we are surrounded on all sides by devious communists and savage fascists who want to destroy us however they can. Despite this obvious fact, we will continue to follow the principles of non-aggression, we shall not make the first strike, but should we be threatened or attacked we will strike back with a fury never seen before. This is why I have expanded the military and will continue to expand it, for our protection.

H.K.G.: Congresman Cassard what are your plans for the military?

Congressman Lionel Cassard: I would, just like President Rygaard here, also expand the military from its present form today. However, I will not build a military to let it sit and wait for an attack, I will pass, through executive order, legislation that would allow the president to authorize preemptive strikes against those who are a threat to our position on this planet. We must be more proactive in creating contingencies to eliminate our enemies through military power.

H.K.G.: What is your response to this bold policy Mister President?

Rygaard: Congressman Cassard's policy will only lead to wars that we cannot afford to fight, our military must be primarily built for defensive purposes and we must not take Congress out of the equation when it comes to declaring wars or starting limited military action. Giving the presidency more power to wage war is a slippery slope that will lead us into a type of Republican Fascism where the legislature is simply a puppet for the executive to play with. I am confident that Sylvanians will not allow this to happen and by voting me back into the presidency will assure that we keep away from the slippery slope that Cassard wishes to take us down.

H.K.G.: Thank you gentlemen, unfortunately that is all we have time for. Tune in again next week when we will have our candidates back to speak about their domestic and economic policies.

We agree with the wise words by President Rygaard. Declaring war is not a decision that can be taken by one man alone, whether he is adviced or not. Such a drastic decision should remain in the hands of Parliament.

VOICE OF THE REPUBLIC

Transcript of a live radio broadcast with Voice of the Republic host, H. K. Gallagher.

H. K. Gallagher:
Good evening ladies and gentlemen, Sylvanians all. We are here tonight with the Director of Foreign Affairs, Autumn Viklund. Welcome to Voice of the Republic Miss Viklund.

Director Autumn Viklund: Thank you for having me on the show tonight and a good evening to all of your listeners.

H.K.G.: We have invited you on the show today to discuss the recent revelations of a fight in the Aurarian government over the ongoing construction of a Sylvanian naval base in Primer. Currently several parties have conspired to break away from their usual operating procedures, jeopardizing Allende's position as Senior Tribune. What is your reaction to this development.

A. Viklund: Obviously we do not wish to lose this base, we want to cooperate with the Aurarians in keeping the continent we all live on safe. On the official side of things, we have invested much in this base, we have brought employment to Aurarian people and we are working together to keep us all safe. In addition a lease has been signed for this base and for them to break this contract would incur heavy fines, something we do not wish to see. Keeping the base is in our best interests and we are currently looking for ways to convince the Aurarian government to drop this idea. We also do not wish to see a government shutdown over this military base, a operational and efficient Aurarian national government is important to the Sylvanian government.

H.K.G: Would this mean your department would go out of its way to attempt to keep Allende in power?

A. Viklund: The way you word this question is dangerous, because there is nothing we can do to assure Allende stays in power while also keeping our base. All we can do is lobby Allende and these different parties to reconsider the path they are attempting to go down. Truthfully it would be good for Sylvania for Allende to stay in power and continuing good relations with us. If he cannot, there will be much damage done to our national relations along with the fines that would go with one of us breaking this contract.

H.K.G.: What has changed between our two nations?

A. Viklund: When the idea of this base first came about, their legislature was quite supportive of the measure, it passed without much opposition. We understand that things change as new elected officials come into office, however Auraria pledged to us and we pledged to them to cooperate militarily for the good of all of us. Sylvania still wishes to uphold this pledge, but their government is thinking otherwise. I would put the change mostly on the diplomatic debacle that occurred a few months ago between our foreign ministries that caused a panic for Sylvanian investors and brought construction on the base to a halt, unfortunately I could not prevent this because I was out of the office planning a peace meeting with the Danish government. I blame myself for not being there to stop that debacle from occurring.

H.K.G.: I understand that you have a quote to share with us.

A. Viklund: Indeed I do, this quote comes from Minister Clemente Osvaldo Hernandez: “Here, in Zulia-Santander, we live in a continent devoid of the problems of war. The phenomenon exists in other parts of the world and it is not uncommon for those nations to bring their wars here. People of this continent enjoy our republican ideals and our enduring commitment to peace. To preserve these qualities, we need to stand united as one continent. This deal is mutually beneficial to both Auraria and Sylvania to achieve the goal of everlasting peace. To reject this deal is to throw stability and peace into question.”

A. Viklund: As my counterpart said so long ago, to abandon the deals we have made will, in his on words: "throw stability and peace into question." Peace is the main objective of the Rygaard administration and as a part of that administration it is my goal as well and I will do what I can to convince the Aurarians to forgo voting to close the base.

H.K.G.: Thank you, Director Viklund, for being here on Voice of the Republic. Goodnight.

A. Viklund: Thank you and goodnight.

people has sold it and its people out to the Mezhist Union who have claimed that they will use the island to establish a
"free trade zone." The very notion of a free trade zone is a lie, along with their promise to let the Faroese govern themselves.
Why? Mezhists do not believe in free trade, the very idea of Mezhism is to control all sectors of the economy through
government and neither does Mezhism allow for people to govern themselves. Take note, that they will use this "free
trade zone" as propaganda against us but it will not deter us from our mission.

The Continental Congress has voted unanimously to liberate the Faroes from the grasp of nations who would whore
the land that rightfully belongs to the Faroe Islanders. No longer will the Danish Imperium use the Faroes as a base
from which to exert control over the Occidentian continent and from here on we will not allow the Mezhist Union to use
it as a way to expand the hegemony of Mezhism over the free nations of the New World. Along with our Cussian allies
we will surround this island and remove all fascist and authoritarian forces from its vicinity, by force if we must, though
they will be given the chance to surrender to our forces.

While we enjoy the support of nations such as Østveg, Beautancus and Ivernia there are those nations who would oppose
our cause. I say to those nations what do you have to gain from allowing this disease of an ideology from gaining a foothold
in close proximity to our precious homelands? At what time did the Danes or the Mezhists ask the Faroese if they were
comfortable with being ruled by a military force or have their lands exploited for corporate gain? There never was a time!
As liberators we will allow the Faroese to build a government of their choosing, for the people by the people and of the people!
We will bring about economic freedom as they decide for what and how their land is used for. The Danes did not care about
their rights, and the Mezhists will not care for their rights either! They will become slaves of the Mezhist government
controlled organizations, there will be no free market in this false "free economic zone."

Sylvanians! Ask yourself who benefits from this Mezhists "free economic zone?" Read your newspapers, read your history
books and you will quickly come to the conclusion of who does indeed benefit. While an enemy from far away attempts to
bring itself closer to our homeland, other threats may be much closer to home than previously thought.

THE CONTINENTAL NAVY
APPROACHES!

Continental Navy approaches

Matthew Hawker

After revelations that the Danish Imperium is selling the Faroe Islands
to the Mezhist Union, the Continental navy was put on full alert and is
currenlty sailing to contain the threat of the spread of Mezhism into the
Occidentian Continent. Confidence is high that the Continental Navy with
Cussian support will be able to repel any Mezhist invasion of the island.

RYGAARD APPROVAL AT 63%

Rygaard's strong response to the Mezhist threat
boosts approval rating.
By Owen Riley
Charleroi

President Rygaard more or less has been seen as a President of peace to
the Sylvanian people, a view that was damaging his campaign to be reelected
for the 1954-1958 presidential term. Polling agencies have reported that
if the election were to be held today, Sander Rygaard would win the Presidency
by a landslide victory. The Cassard campaign is currently wrestling with the
fact that Rygaard has been able to successfully show himself to be strong but
also as an advocate of peace.

YEAR OF THE SYLVANIAN REPUBLIC!
Constant Sylvanian victories and growth
make Rygaard's promise a reality.
By Leander Horne
Opinion

This truly is indeed the year of the Sylvanian Republic, after successive diplomatic
and military victories over the Danish Imperium, Sylvania stands strong while
dissidents and rebels force the Danish Imperium to crumble. At home times have
never been better as unemployment rates, which were once high during the August
Catastrophe of 1951 and into 1952, have plummeted to almost nothing in 1953.
Alliances such as the Tripartite Agreement and the Occidental Defense and
Intelligence Network have served to make Sylvania and her allies strong and
influential. Now with the dawn of the Faroes Crisis, Sylvania is once again
challenged to stand strong as threats once though far away from the homeland
have brought themselves closer to us. However, Sylvanian confidence has never
been higher, where once her people were content with military isolationism they
now cheer on Sylvanian interventionism. Rygaard's promise to make 1953 the
year of the Sylvanian Republic on January first has come true as he shows himself
to be a perfect mix of libertarian and conservative views.

HOCKEY IN CANTIGNIA

Three Sylvanian teams travel to Cantignia to play in
an international tournament.
By Charles Farkley
Sports

Autumn is hockey season in Cantignia and much of the northern world. This year
several Sylvanian teams as well as teams from all over the world have been
invited to play in the International Invitational Series. The Charleroi Sharpshooters,
Baldwin-Whitehall Nor'easters and the Montour Whalers have signed up to take
part in this invitational. It is expected that these Sylvanian teams will have some
stiff competition and will need to practice hard if they want to get anywhere near
a winning position.

The Fennian Union

The continued Sylvanian attempts to intervene in the affair of the Faroes Lease hold no legal or moral justification whatsoever. Implying that the Sylvanians would be in any way actually concerned for the welfare of the people of the Faroes is an utterly blatant lie, and the true motivation for these acts of warmongering lies in the territorial ambitions of President Rygaard and his cronies.

The Charleroi regime showed its true colors to the world as early as during the First Faroes Crisis, attempting to use intimidation and violence for the seizure of the islands from Danmark. These actions would be transpiring regardless of the government in control of the Faroe Islands because their true motivation is the Sylvanian desire to dominate not only Occidentia, but the entire Northern Thaumantic Ocean as well.

While the Sylvanians are themselves often quick to accuse other governments of imperialism, in truth the Sylvanians themselves are the greatest imperialists of our time. Their desire of building a plutocratic Sylvanian Empire has now cast a shadow of war over the Thaumantic Ocean and the nations on its shores.

The Fennian Union stands in full condemnation of the Sylvanian attempts to ignite global war, and demands the immediate cessation of Sylvanian offensive movement directed against the Faroe Islands.

I have ordered the Fennian ambassador and his staff in Charleroi to immediately return home in protest of this action. Ambassadorial and consular affairs pertaining to Sylvania will be handled through the Fennian embassy in Warre & Tyrculir.

Stateholder of the Union,

RYGAARD WINS!
Rygaard to be President for a second term!

President Rygaard sits exhausted after many months of campaigning and planning around international crises.
By Allen Blair
Charleroi

After many months of campaining against National Conservative party candidate Lionel Cassard, Rygaard has been voted to continue
his presidency for a second term. What seemed like a Presidency going nowhere back in 1950 has turned into one of Sylvania's most
highly rated Presidencies ever. Back in 1950, when Rygaard beat out many candidates with similar goals, many Sylvanians did not
think that Rygaard could take Sylvania anywhere, mainly voting for him because he was not the other candidates, but with the
August Catastrophe bringing an economic downturn to Sylvania, Rygaard was able to take what little he was given and turn the
country away from years of irrelevancy. It all came to a head when Rygaard gave his Year of the Sylvanian Republic speech during
the new years celebration, the latter half of 1952 and all of 1953 were Rygaard's best years as he led the country to numerous political
victories over the Danish Imperium, the protection and liberation of Østveg and finally the liberation of the Faroe Islands from the
clutches of Mezhist Imperialism.

"I am very grateful for what the Sylvanian people have done by voting me in for a second term. It is a great validation of my struggle
to make Sylvania what it deserves to be, a great nation, capable of wielding power in this world and a beacon of hope for those
who are not as fortunate to have known what it is to be free. Yet despite the successes I have known, I am now faced with the daunting
task of making sure that Sylvanian progress is not rolled back and continuing to advance our nation as we trod on into 1954. While
we have forged powerful alliances, there are still those who continue to threaten our peace and there are those who would give
themselves up to unsavory causes. We must prevent this from happening, whilst continuing to better our domestic lives. Many
have criticized me for allowing foreign policy to get in the way of domestic issues: I say to them: I have not forgotten you and
I will continue to make domestic issues a top priority going into 1954, especially the creation of new infrastructures that will
connect both east and west and make our country closer and stronger than ever before."
- A portion of Sander Rygaard's speech
on learning of his victory.

As the President has acknowledged, 1954 will bring many challenges to the nation and his administration, especially when it
comes to the transitioning of the Faroe Islands to a Faroese government, a promise Rygaard made before authorizing the
invasion of the island chain. He will also need to reassure his allies that Sylvania has good intentions in it's increasingly
visible goals, goals which have come under the scrutiny of the international community.

WRITERS STRIKE OVER!

Writers strike leaves international
community out of the loop on Sylvanian news.
Owen Riley

After negotiations between the National Union of Journalists and
the Charleori Tribune Review shut down the paper, the world's only
source for foreign readers to catch up on events in Sylvania, the
National Union of Journalists and the paper have been able to
come to agreement on a pay increase. The Union has hailed this
as a victory and many news publications are following suit to avoid
a shutdown of their respective papers.

SYLVANIAN DIPLOMATIC CORPS
PULLS OUT OF FENNIAN UNION!

Relations between Fennia and Sylvania at an
historic low.
Matthew Hawker
Charleroi

Relations between the Fennian Union and Sylvania are at an all time
low as the Sylvanian Diplomatic Corps has announced the return of
the Sylvanian ambassador to the Fennian Union back to Sylvania.
This is in response to the Fennians doing the same last month after
an official condemnation of the invasion of the Faroe Islands.

Representatives of the Diplomatic Corps have commented saying
that relations will probably not be repaired. Analysts are also
commenting that the two nations may find themselves at odds
just like Sylvania did with Danmark after Sylvania closed its own
embassy and ejected the Danish diplomats.

CONTINENTAL NAVY GROWS IN SIZE!

Captured Danish vessels from the Faroe islands have allowed the
Continental Navy to grow without the expense of building new ships.
Cornelius Lee
Gamle Kongestad

I am here in Gamle Kongestad at the newly captured Danish naval base
now converted into Sylvanian ownership. Due to the collapse of the
Danish state the Continental Navy was able to take six battleships
and three aircraft carries into the fleet, of which two battleships and
one aircraft carrier were sold to the Cussian navy for one silverback
each.

The ships are in good condition, however due to neglect the Continental
Navy will need to go over the ships and find out what needs refitted as
well as remove old Danish markings and replace them with Sylvanian
markings. With this capture the Sylvanian navy is now the largest
navy without a doubt in the Occident and one of the strongest
operating in the Northern Thaumantic.

HEAVY STORMS DELAY FAORES ELECTIONS!
Constant stormy winter in Occupied Faores.
Military Governor declares emergency for storm ravaged islands.
By Matthew Hawker
Redstone Naval Base, Occupied Gamle Kongestad

As I write this, the Wiley Naval Base, once a Danish facility, now captured and under control of the Sylvanian military is currently being slammed with another storm, the entirety of Gamle Kongestand is disabled now as winds up to 90 miles an hour slam the city. The vote to create an independent government here for the Faroes is constantly being pushed back as the Faroese are kept shut in by storm after storm. The Sylvanian military governor has declared a state of emergency, mandating that all Faroese citizens must stay in doors to protect themselves from the storm. Storm shelters have been created from old Danish bunkers where the Continental Marine Corps is sheltering citizens who have been forced out of their houses by heavy flooding, luckily shipments of relief supplies have not been impeded by the storm and displaced Faroese are given every comfort that can be afforded as they ride out this next series of storms.

"Currently these storms have been ruining our effort to help the Faroese set up a commission to begin the creation of an independent Faroese Government. We are almost a month behind schedule due to the unforeseen stormy weather, both in creating the commission and in the removal of Danish Imperial insignia across the islands. Weather forecasters both civilian and military foresee that there will yet be another series of storms. I have declared a state of emergency and have activated the occupying forces hear to help in every way possible minimize the damage of both the city of Gamle Kongestad, and the surrounding small communities scattered about the islands. I expect that we will not be able to get underway with the commission until spring time where I am told the weather will most likely be much calmer. For now our focus is as stated previously, lessening the damage of these storms and providing shelter to those driven out of their homes." Major General James Montgomery, Military Governor of the Faroes.

CAPTURED BATTLESHIPS ENTER SERVICE!
Danish Battleships captured during the Faroes Crisis finished with refit.

CRN Charleroi once known as the Christiansborg conducts live fire drills off the coast of Sylvania last week.
By Owen Riley
Baldwin - Whitehall

Only just a few months ago the Continental Navy had sailed triumphantly back to their main port here in Baldwin - Whitehall
with six newly captured capital ships and 30 smaller ones in tow, all taken during the Faroes Crisis from the defunct Danish
Imperium. Not long after docking the four Christiansborg class battleships and King Frederik class aircraft carriers, the
workers of the Baldwin Shipbuilding corporation were hard at work stripping the ships of all Danish markers, repainting and
resealing their hulls; and adding standard fleet upgrades to make the compatible with naval standards. The ships had come to
port in a sorry state, they were dirty and had been neglected proper maintenance for almost half a year, but the internal
workings of the ships were still in good shape, cutting down the time needed for a refit.

While work is still being done on the captured air craft carriers, the battleships are now registered and conducting trials with
their new, Sylvanian, crews. Once named Christiansborg after the capital of Danmark, the lead ship in the class now bears
the name Charleroi after our own magnificent capital city.

"These new ships add great capability to our fleet operations, I can now say without a doubt that the Sylvanian Continental
Navy is indeed the most powerful navy in Occidentia and when the aircraft carriers complete their refits next month
the Continental Navy will be even stronger. The imperialists will have a tough time challenging the might of our Continental
Republic." -
Admiral Timothy Piett

Indeed the CRN Charleroi boasts nine, sixteen inch main guns, capable of lobbing shells up to 24 miles away. It also supports
a plethora of smaller caliber weaponry used for ship to ship engagements, bombardment or anti-aircraft. It is currently unknown
where these magnificent beasts of the sea will operate, but there is no doubt that they will put Sylvania miles ahead of her enemies.

CONTINENTAL CONGRESS
SAYS NO!

The Conference on Decolonization of Himyar
fails to find support in the halls of Sylvanian Government.
Leander Horne
Charleroi

Though Sander Rygaard pledged to support Cathiopia in it's quest to end
the colonies and any future colonization of Himyar, the Continental Congress
did not agree. Many congressmen complained that getting involved in the
conference was an "over extension of Sylvanian foreign policy" and that getting
involved was: "of no interest to the Sylvanian people."

Director of Foreign Affairs, Autumn Viklund, vehemently disagreed stating
that the Continental Congress "catastrophically failed the Himyari people."
While the government of Sylvania has pledged to help those in need of shedding
their tyrannical leaders, it seems that pledge does not truly extend to the people
of Himyar in the eyes of congressmen nationwide.

UNCERTAINTY IN TOYOU!
Sylvanian economists claim uncertainty in Toyou region
is a leading factor of underdeveloped Sylvanian west coast.
Cornelius Lee
Montour

While the Parkway initiative is nearing completion it will remain to be seen
whether the improved connection between the east and west coasts of Sylvania
will really lead to a boom in west coast economics. Economists believe that the
only way the west coast of Sylvania will grow is if the uncertainty in Toyou is
eliminated. It was the suggestion of leading University of Charleroi economic
scientists to the Continental Congress that the government should look into ways
to stabilize the conflict in Touzen or reach out to other non-warring nations of
Toyou and establish trade links with nations such as Beishan or find a way to
increase trade to New Engellex.

SYLVANIAN FOREIGN POLICY
AND VALKANY.
Relations between the Empire of Valkany and
the Continental Republic most likely will not change.
Theodore Laury
Charleroi

After the massacre of Himyari natives in the Valkanian Eastern Cape, a colony
now independent of its master, the Continental Republic severed ties with
Valkany, ejected its diplomatic corps and denied Valkany access to the
burgeoning Sylvanian economy.

"Valkany has shown that its goals and morals are not compatible with that of
the Continental Republic. This outlook on our relations are not expected to
change any time soon."
- Autumn Viklund, Director of Foreign Affairs.

Denying Valkany access to one of the most important economies in Occidentia
will no doubt hurt Valkany, especially now that it has lost its colonies, but policy
makers are no doubt wondering if this could turn into another situation akin to
the relations held between the now defunct Danish Imperium and Sylvania.
