THE KING IS LAID TO REST; LONG LIVE THE KING!
His late Majesty was laid to rest in the royal crypt beneath Corpus Christi Cathedral yesterday. Attending the Requiem Mass were the House of Eschenbach and representatives of the estates of Elben, noble, clergy, and common. Many thousands gathered outside, watched on television, and listened on the radio as Cardinal von Eberstein celebrated the Mass, assisted by many priests, deacons, and servers. The cathedral boys choir performed Lazenger's Requiem in D minor. The casket was taken below followed by only close family and His Eminence to perform the final rituals.
In the coming days, His Majesty King Karl Maria will take up residence in the New Palace where he has already begun his day-to-day work. The crown prince and his wife are not expected to move from their apartments at the Old Palace; those vacated by HM will be renovated and made appropriate for guests.
