31 INJURED AS SEAGUARD CANDIDATES' DEBATE TURNS INTO RUMPUS
Late-Night Violence Between Unemployed Stevedores, MacLeish Clansmen

DALMYRE-SEAGUARD. The two great alleged "unsolved deaths" in Gunnish politics stirred up a riot in the nation's largest metropolitan area last night. The rumpus began in the ballroom of the GDWR Grand Northern Terminal at the end of an otherwise civil debate between the two candidates for the Seaguard-South seat, incumbent Integrity MT and party chairman Brendan C. MacGinley and his Liberal challenger, attorney Colleen mL. MacInnis.

Eyewitness reports relate that the trouble began when Ms. MacInnis criticized the Blackthorn Administration for failing to offer a complete and transparent investigation of the death of Duncan MacLeish last summer in Trivodnia. Rather than refute this charge, MT MacGinley replied that the Liberals are more interested in getting to the bottom of an "underworld gang-war among criminals" than untangling the "Masonic conspiracy" behind the 2015 plane crash that killed King Josias.

Taking umbrage at the characterization of their late chief, the wealthy shipping magnate who built up Lloyd & MacLeish GMG, as a "criminal," the MacLeishes in the audience began shouting down MT MacGinley. Some of the late MacLeish's relatives were arraigned on narcotics smuggling charges in Eiffelland and Pelasgia at the end of his life. But those who were there said it was the dockworkers, employees of the MacGinley-run Cameron Shipyards, who began shouting, "Kill the masons!" and throwing bricks and drawing concealed sgains.

The unrest spilled out into the railway terminal, disrupting the train schedule, and into the nearby streets, where shop windows were smashed. The National Guard was able to restore order to the city center only after several hours of looting. Liberal leader Douglas MacLeish and clan chief Mark MacLeish, Lord of the Isles, condemned the violence. Ambrose Cameron, Duke of Sutherland, followed suit and asked Leader Blackthorn to declare a state of emergency. The National Security Service will arrive to investigate the event this evening. The Guard will also be out in force.

Ms. MacInnis went further in a statement to The Ayr Post. It reads: "Not only do I condemn the violence, I condemn my opponent, Integrity Party Chairman Cameron-MacGinley, for trying to incite trouble all night. First it was showing the artworks of Carol mL. MacCraw, which many find offensive but has nothing to do with me or my campaign. When that didn't work, he exploited the death of our late and beloved king, which has been fully investigated, unlike the sham investigation behind the Kennedy-Muir Report. Integrity leaders are frustrated and desperate and trying to stir up trouble and create an atmosphere of fear, as strongmen always do."

Chairman MacGinley declined comment. Even as Ms. MacInnis's campaign has gained momentum, Mr. MacGinley still holds a narrow lead in the latest TAP poll, 48%-45%.

BLACKTHORN CONSIDERS SUSPENDING ELECTIONS; MASSIVE PROTEST MARCH
Political Crisis Overshadows Council Expansion, Eschenbach Summit; Liberal Platform Also

WINDHAVEN. It was supposed to be an evening when Leader Blackthorn announced popular foreign-policy accomplishments to reassure the nation. But when the Liberals upstaged him by announcing the approval of their radical party platform, he threatened to suspend elections. In response, thousands of Gunnish citizens took to the streets of Windhaven in the largest protest in the city's history: with some estimates claiming up to 50,000 people assembled at the Freehold.

The Liberals attempted to steal the stage by renting out Highlander Stadium to host a rally to promote the "Three Strikes" party platform: strike out censorship, strike out business and finance regulations, and strike out the exploitation of women. Almost all the MTs and MT candidates gathered to cheer on Douglas MacLeish as he specifically targeted three institutions that draw Liberal ire: the Office of the Censor, the Integrity-aligned financial behemoth Mons Pietatis, and the Working Ladies' Association's Annual Labor Bond (ALB) system.

By the time James B. Blackthorn stepped off the train at King Alexander Station, the roars of the crowd deafened the small throngs of well-wishers waving Gunnish flags for the Leader. He appeared on KGB-1 scarcely an hour later to announce the accession of Caledonia to the Council of the North and a new commercial summit in Fleur to facilitate the coveted north-south trans-Gallo-Germania commercial corridor to bring Gunnish goods to market in Eiffelland and Retalia. But he went off-script at the end.

"We shall be stronger together and more prosperous together," said the Leader, reprising the themes of his speech. But then he added, "But my opponents continue to provoke a crisis and stoke the flames of division, and this turned bloody in Dalmyre-Seaguard last night. We must restore calm in this state of emergency. No elections can take place under these kind of conditions. Order must be restored first."

Leader Blackthorn left it ambiguous saying that he would suspend elections, only suggesting that he might. Under the Law of Gunni, the Leader is able to use his emergency powers to suspend elections under the expansive "Law of the Deed," but this automatically triggers a trial to be heard by the Thing. It has been called a desperate move of a parliamentary leader about to lose power anyway, one that might postpone elections as long as it took to conduct a trial.

When news of Blackthorn's threat on KGB-1 reached Highlander Stadium, Douglas MacLeish called for an orderly procession up the Avenue of Alexander Rex and Stone Bridge Street towards the Freehold, blocking traffic. Students from the Marian University joined in what was easily the largest protest in Windhaven's history. The Constabulary estimated that between 25,000 and 50,000 people took part in the "illegal demonstration." It dispersed peacefully in the late hours of the evening.

Noting well the strife that has grown in recent years between those with opposing visions of Gunnland's future, the Kingdom of Elben offers support to its ally and urges all parties to remain firm and united under God. Once a people starts to allow the centrifugal forces of modernism to fester, there is rarely any coming back short of societal revolution with much bloodshed. Only following the Gospel message of Our Lord can we, mere mortals stained by original sin, find true freedom under His Yoke.

DESPITE VIOLENCE; EMBARRASSMENT OF RICHES FOR WINDHAVEN VOTERS
Orsitsematosan Udomo Gives Stirring Speech at the Marian-I Capitollium Student Union

WINDHAVEN. The least exciting Thing race in Gunnland just received a charge of energy. Liberal candidate Mark C. "Hob" MacOibicin, a moderate, was expected to cruise to victory after incumbent foreign secretary Stephen G. Larkin (MT-Windhaven East) pulled out of the race. But now Mr. MacOibicin has a challenger.

In an unlikely twist, Oritsematosan Udomo, a black Nethian woman from Port Stanley, resigned her post as Minister of Foreign Affairs in order to move to Windhaven to study and stand for the Thing of All Gunnishmen. She says that her candidacy is meant to highlight racism and sexism in the Germanian colonial legacy, and help point the way towards a more diverse and inclusive Gunnland. Little else is known about Ms. Udomo, who seems to have been a newcomer to Stanlean politics as well.

"My country was never legally a colony of Gunnland, but Gunnish merchants participated in and reinforced a racial caste system that was imposed upon the chieftesses of a matriarchal Mafewo society," Ms. Udomo said in a speech announcing her candidacy to the Marian University student union, "We have a chance together to confront the legacy of our shared history and move into the future together, without the misfortunes that stain Caledonia and Loago."

The speech seems to have had a strong impact in the highly educated Windhaven electorate, and is being widely discussed throughout the capital. "For those of us who marched on 1/13," said one student, referring to the 50,000-strong protest marches to keep the elections on-schedule, "this is the kind of responsible and articulate radical politics we have been waiting for."

The MacOibicin campaign has raised questions about the legality of her standing, but legal challenges are unlikely to be successful. Under Rhyderch v. Crown, household and residency requirements only apply to voting, not standing for office. Enquêteur Quint C. Muir has issued a preliminary ruling that, because Mrs. Udomo is a subject of Countess Mary of Arundel, she has the same right to stand for office as any citizen of Ayr or resident of Lower Marpesia.

GUNNLAND IS FOR GUNNISHMEN

Walter mA. Matthew

Justosia is for the Justos, Occitania is (or was) for the Occitans, so shouldn't Gunnland be for the Gunnish? The Liberals don't seem to think so. There are two Thing seats that the Integrity Party is not contesting: one in Windhaven-East and one in Mar and the Isles. Ever since Foreign Secretary Larkin secured a royal appointment and dropped out of the race, the Liberals have been all but guaranteed two seats.

Then a strange thing happened. In Windhaven-East, a Mafewess from Port Stanley has announced a surprise candidacy and stirred up the radical student base. And in the Isles, a Seoran woman from Siu Wui married to a Gunnishwoman has challenged Harlan Keith. The improbably named Thingwomen Oritsematosan Udomo and Hana Wu, my dear readers, are no longer very long shots.

Make no mistake: these foreigners are Liberal plants. They do not want to win, they want to change the face of our country. When the Liberals talk about a diverse and inclusive Gunnish society, they mean a society that is no longer Gunnish. They mean a Gunnland that looks just like the rest of Europe, one shorn of our traditions, our distinct culture, and our ancient faith.

YEAR OF THE WOMAN LANDSLIDE: EARLY RETURNS FAVOR CHALLENGERS
Blackthorn In Danger of Losing His Seat to Political Newcomer Avigeya Anastasios

WINDHAVEN. The Liberals will control at least 9, and possibly 10, of the 12 elected Thingseats according to early unofficial returns. In the biggest surprise of the day, political newcomer Avigeya Anastasios has come close to unseating Leader James B. Blackthorn in a race that is too close to call.

The results will change the face of the Thing in what has already been called the Year of the Woman. At least 5, and possibly 6, of the Liberal victors are women. They include the most diverse cross-section of Gunnish citizens as well: a Seoran, a Kranislavian, and a Stanlean.

In addition to the Blackthorn loss, Integrity Party chairman Brendan C. MacGinley was defeated by attorney Colleen mL. MacInnis in a Dalmyre-Seaguard race marred by violence.

The remaining 12 unelected Thingseats will be filled later this week by the civil society bodies that determine their members: the professors, the attorneys, the colonels, and the clergy. Whatever the results of the Blackthorn-Anastasios race, they are sure to discuss the seismic changes happening in Gunnland.

LARGE PROTESTS MEET AYR THINGWOMAN'S CALL FOR "REPRODUCTIVE RIGHTS"
But will there be a backlash when the civil corporations choose their representatives?
The big story should have been a Liberal landslide that toppled James B. Blackthorn's government from power, and Gunnishmen who for decades have voted Integrity have returned only two Integrity Party members to the Thing. But then Catherine mL. Birmingham, in the excitement of victory, said she "can imagine a day soon where women's equality comes to Gunnland, the day when women can control their own bodies, and win reproductive rights recognized in so many other Gallogermanian countries."

First the comments drew censure from Liberal Party leader Douglas MacLeish, who insisted the Liberals remain united in their opposition to abortion. Then they were condemned by Edmund Woodstone, the Archbishop of Windhaven. Then the buses came, and in large protest marches in Dalmyre-Seaguard, Windhaven, and Ayr the Gunnish Catholics voiced their alarm. The Office of the Censor reported that Ms. Birmingham, who has not appeared in public since her comments, could not be arrested because the County of Arundel has special laws protecting "freedom of speech."

Now all eyes are turning to the more liberal-leaning civil corporations, the Marian University and the Inn of Advocates, to see who they will appoint to the Thing now that the radical agenda of the Liberals -- something The Advocate has long warned about -- is undeniable. (There is little mystery whom the Church and the Army will send to the inaugural Thing at St. Tears.) And what about the Stone Chair? All eyes are on Queen Julian, who has not commented on the crisis, to see who she will appoint prime minister.

The Gunnish people are alarmed, of course, that they have voted for the wrong party and given their country away in the ballot box.

Democracy's night-vision goggles.
CIVIL CORPORATIONS THREATEN TO DEFY THE POPULAR WILL
Integrity Sympathizers Divided, However, Between Professors and Generals

ST. TEARS. The Gunnish people voted overwhelmingly to throw out the James Blackthorn government and embrace a more progressive future, but the battle to make sure the next administration does that is just beginning.

Douglas MacLeish needed 13 votes to secure the Leadership, but won only 11. To the shock of the Thing, new independent Thingwomen Oritsemitosan Udomo and Hana Wu threw their support behind longtime Integrity leader Padraig B. Smith, who also garnered 11 votes. Three churchmen abstained: Fr. Gregorius Keiper, Archbishop Edmund Woodstone of Windhaven, and Bishop Justin Broithe of Ayr. The bishops are expected not to vote; a tacit admission, some say, that the episcopacy is divided.

It remains a mystery why the two immigrant women voted for Smith over MacLeish. Regardless, the civil corporations impede the ability of the Gunnish people to vote for change. Support for Smith would not be so high if a slim majority of the seats in the Thing were not unelected. Democratic reform is needed more urgently than ever.

Tomorrow another ballot for the Leadership will be taken, and early reports say centrist candidate Elizabeth mA. Stoke is emerging as a compromise candidate. Stoke is known as the most progressive, liberal-leaning figure within the Integrity Party orbit. She has the vocal support of Colonel Stephen mA. MacGarry, who has called her a "pragmatic reformer and a stateswoman." She is likely to gain some moderate Liberal support, but Integrity hardliners have been very critical of her emergence as a compromise. A group of ultraconservative professors from the Marian University are leading the charge, who were selected in the national uproar over Thingwoman Birmingham's abortion comments.

As long as party of order remains divided between moderate generals and ultraconservative professors, the popular Liberals will have a chance to leave their stamp on the next regime.

BESS STOKE COMES UP ONE VOTE SHY OF THE LEADERSHIP
Country Plunged Into Unprecedented Constitutional Situation

WINDHAVEN. Elizabeth mA. Stoke's attempt to gain the leadership as a compromise candidate failed this morning, though she had as many as 12 votes on Friday morning. 6 Integrity hardliners backing Hadrian Molyneux (I-Marian) and 7 Liberal stalwarts continuing to back Douglas MacLeish (L-Dalmyre) remained implacably opposed.

The Thing has failed to elect a Leader now on sixty consecutive days. On Thursday, the Thing voted 19-6 to give emergency powers to Queen Julian until a Leader is elected. But some Thingmen are now saying that no a Leader is unlikely to be elected.

Prime Minister Ian B. MacLean, a virtually unknown accountant before his appointment, as been put in charge of the Home Office by royal decree. He has proposed a complex series of penalties for clans that do not meet various social-welfare provision benchmarks. The 34-year-old technocrat appeared on KGB-1 this morning to outline his plan for rationalizing healthcare and pensions, which outside of the County of Arundel are unevenly provided by a complex patchwork of subsidiaries of the Church and the armigerous clans. Before the elections, the Thing gave Queen Julian jurisdiction over the Foreign Office.

Alexander C. Hanson (L-Seaguard) issued a strongly worded criticism warning that Gunnland is descending into "royal absolutism." Unlike a normal Leader, Queen Julian cannot be removed from office after using emergency powers. Mr. Hanson warns that Prime Minister MacLean will only call "symbolic" votes in the Thing, since the centrist "Stonies" (royalists) can now count on emergency decrees to pass their legislation.

Others have suggested it is more complicated than that. "Queen Julian is carving out new royal authority for the Stone Chair in the midst of a power vacuum," said Ralph Rhyderch, a professor of political science at the Marian, "However, on the other hand, the Law of Gunni requires the Thing to meet every day to vote for the Leader. So for the first time ever we have something like a standing parliament, too."

PROF. MOLYNEUX: "INTEGRITY PARTY HAS CEASED TO FUNCTION"
Blames Moderates and Colonels for "Weak" Compromises During Deadlock
For two months the Thing of All Gunnishmen has failed to elect a Leader. What is now an effective minority government under Prime Minister Ian B. MacLean has successfully increased the queen's emergency powers and is working on sorely needed entitlement reforms. The pragmatic, moderate center -- called the "Stonies" because they are close to the Stone Chair -- has predictably pleased the Ayr business community. The ASEG is even showing signs of life.

But the Integrity Party, which governed Gunnland for all but nine years between 1945 and 2019, is deeply divided. Although it officially controls 10 seats, only half of its MTs currently support the party's Leadership candidate, Professor Hadrian Molyneux. The "Colonels," as the moderates are known, have supported the "Stonies" and almost together put Elizabeth mA. Stoke into the Leadership.

"The political leadership of our party was decimated during the elections," Mr. Molyneux told The Advocate, "leaving us leaderless, directionless, and vulnerable to the radical assaults the Liberals are trying to make upon the Church, the natural law, and the moral foundations of the Kingdom." Ousted Integrity Party politicians are no less divided than the rest of the party; former party chairman Brendan C. MacGinley has endorsed Molyneux, but former Leader James B. Blackthorn has repeatedly refused, saying the future of the party lies with others.

Queen Julian can pass laws by decree without the approval of the Thing, but so far it seems that Prime Minister MacLean will present these bills to the Thing first. In order to change this new constitutional situation, which came into effect last Thursday, the Thing would have to elect a new Leader. Because the Thing is required to meet every day to take a vote for the Leadership, it has already been called the "Long Thing": the Thing has already met 60 times this year, but usually meets around 12 times a year. Till it elects a Leader, it will be a parliamentary rubber stamp. The Thing has become de facto a constitutional court that will only decisively enter Gunnish politics when it has the political will to compromise upon a Leader to rescind the queen's powers.

The Liberals say that Integrity is too effective as an obstructionist force standing in the way of "democracy" despite the popular will, and which has recklessly created a constitutional crisis. But Mr. Molyneux dismisses that charge, saying to the contrary, "Deadlock in the Thing seems like a good thing for the effective administration of government!"

OPINION: NO, QUEEN JULIAN DOES NOT NEED TO MARRY
Elizabeth mA. Stoke, MT

Like many Gunnishmen and Gunnishwomen, I was shocked to read the editorial in The Advocate by Théophile Gladstone-Pape, my colleague at the Marian University and in the Thing of All Gunnishmen, calling upon Her Majesty to marry. Mr. Gladstone-Pape compared Queen Julian unfavorably to the Grand Duchess Mireille, whose "wise match" to now King Karl Maria VIII of Elben brings two Gallogermanian monarchies into a personal union. "We are eclipsed by our oldest rivals," Mr. Gladstone-Pape complains.

The Burgundian Wars of centuries past are over. Every schoolchild knows the litany of embarrassments suffered by Kings of the Gunns whom the imperial circles of the Holy Tiburan Empire looked down upon as cowherds and bandits. These too are long in the past.

The criticisms from Integrity hardliners are mesmeric: foreign-policy alarmism about the old Burgundian threat, rumors of a royal affair with Prime Minister MacLean, even feigned indignation about the spurned Valvoisette claim. It is 2019. Her Majesty is a strong woman and a capable stateswoman in her own right. She has forged an entente with Kadikistan and a powerful alliance in the Council of the North. These right-wing Catholic fantasies about a betrayal of the Kingdom, a betrayal of the Church, and a betrayal of her royal virginity and purity must stop.

INN, INTEGRITY JUDGES LAUNCH FLURRY OF INTERDICTS
Hardliners Bent On Constitutional Crisis; The Ayr Post Targeted

WINDHAVEN. After a quiet several months, the Office of the Censor has issued hundreds of interdicts, including one to The Ayr Post to stop publishing for lèse-majesté. The offending article was Elizabeth mA. Stoke, MT's opinion piece that referred to Queen Julian's virginity being in question. Legal advisers to the paper have counseled that free-speech laws in the County of Arundel protect us from complying with the injunction. The Earl of Arundel's Mounted Police has taken up positions outside The Ayr Post headquarters to stop the National Security Service from serving the injunction.

The expriest, Coemgein Gallagher has not been the only Integrity hardliner working overtime. The enquêteur, Padraig B. Smith, MT, has issued dozens of controversial legal opinions for the country's judges, including one that despite parliamentary immunity and Arundalian free-speech laws, Catherine mL. Birmingham (L-Ayr) can be charged with conspiracy to murder for publicly voicing support of reproductive rights. Now it is not clear if, for the first time in modern history, Miss Birmingham could be arrested for stepping foot across the County of Arundel's border between Ayr and St. Tears.

The flurry of legal activity from the Integrity-dominated Inn of Advocates and Office of the Censor is unlikely to be successful, since the Thing of All Gunnishmen is the court of last resort, and the Integrity candidate Hadrian Molyneux has not managed to earn more than nine votes for the Leadership. But this flurry will will test Queen Julian's will to remove the censor or even the enquêteur, or to strike down their interdicts. She will have to insert herself into the ordinary politics of this country, or allow it to slip into further dysfunction.

AYR NEWSPAPER CLOSED ON LÈSE-MAJESTÉ INTERDICT
Queen Declines to Act: "Emergency Powers Are for Emergencies"
ST TEARS. The Ayr Post has been temporarily shuttered for publishing articles that violate the privacy of Queen Julian. Liberals who support unlimited free speech hoped Her Majesty would overrule the judicial decision. The queen enjoys temporary powers delegated from the Thing, for so long as the legislature cannot elect a Leader.

A scene erupted in the Thing this morning when Liberal leader Douglas MacLeish (MT-Dalmyre) confronted the enquêteur, Padraig B. Smith, about the spate of interdicts released by the Inn of Advocates. Mr. Smith denies the legal maneuvers are politically motivated, claiming that the problem is, "suddenly so many powerful people think they are above the law."

Queen Julian appealed for calm. The Stone Chair released a statement that the queen would not intervene as long as the Thing continued to "conduct itself with civility and good order." The legislature is deadlocked between three factions of roughly eightmmembers each: Integrity hardliners, Liberal hardliners, and independent "Stonies" that support the royally appointed Prime Minister Ian B. MacLean.

Mr. MacLeish claimed that two of his party members, Catherine mL. Birmingham (MT-Ayr) and Alexander C. Hanson (MT-Seaguard), are being harassed by ongoing GBI investigations in violation of parliamentary immunity. The Inn of Advocates has said they are looking into the charges.

While a free press is the hallmark of any civilised society the divine right of monarchs to rule must be respected and we applaud HRH Queen Julian of Gunnland for defending that principle.

While internet access is tightly controlled in the Kingdom of Gunnland, except in the cities of Ayr and Île-des-Pins which are under the special laws of the County of Arundel, the following blog post has been widely printed and illegally distributed in Liberal Party networks in Dalmyre-Seaguard and among the students of Windhaven.

IT CAN HAPPEN HERE. IT IS HAPPENING HERE.
alexander cameron hanson, MT

We thought we voted the régime out of power but the reactionary elements that control the church, academy, courts, and military clamped down on our political revolution. Then we thought they would be effective obstructionists, but the days of outright oppression were over. We were wrong.

The same goons who have brainwashed our children, kidnapped our daughters, and cut down our sons for 1500 years are still in power. Sometimes they allow us to feel safe in the bubble of our progressive city, a 21st century peninsula stretching out from the dark hills of superstition and misery. No more.

I watch GBI agents rummage through my rubbish. My colleague Cathy Birmingham gets death threats every day. Every time we cross the county border and step into St. Tears we wonder if despite 1200 years of parliamentary immunity we will be arrested. The NSS has come to jail our journalists.

And worst of all is when my daughter Soara cries on the phone and calls me a "troublemaker." Top of her class at the Marian, where she's learned why this is the way that Jesus Christ and Aquinas and the pope want us to live. University is supposed to broaden your vision; ours narrows our children.

Queen Julian has the power to make Gunnland a normal country where the rule of law prevails, where the business of life can go on without fear, where the life of the mind is not poisoned by hate. Sometimes even now you can close your eyes and believe we are in Bourgogne or even Retalia.

But then they remind us they're here, and that our country belongs to them. Vote out Blackthorn and Gunn, and Integrity finds worse. Cold marpesiennes like Molyneux, Gladstone-Pape, and Demai who whisper in their Burgundian dialect and dream of restoring the Holy Tiburan Empire.

Régimes become brittle before they break. Now is not the time to relent in our struggle.

QUEEN, THING CLOSE TO NEGOTIATING END TO LEADERSHIP DEADLOCK
Molyneux and MacLeish May Agree to HM Julian's Framework for a Deal

ST TEARS. Tensions in the Thing of All Gunnishmen have reached a high, as that body continues to meet daily in frustrated efforts to elect a Leader. Some Liberal MTs have been threatened with legal action for sedition and disturbing the peace, and in turn have accused the authorities of harassment. The everyday operations of the government, temporarily placed under royal auspices, have been uninterrupted. But the constitutional crisis has become heated enough for Queen Julian to intervene.

The Stone Chair has written an agreement where all 25 Thingpersons would agree to vote on 1 of 2 candidates, one selected by Liberal leader Douglas MacLeish (MT-Dalmyre-Seaguard) and the other by Integrity leader Hadrian Molyneux (MT-Marian). In the event that the procedure failed, the crown would dissolve the Thing by its emergency powers and call for new elections. Sources inside Dunrobin Castle say that Robert Gunn, the clan chief working on the Port Stanley peace process, was instrumental in working out a compromise plan.

Queen Julian is expected to put pressure on the party leaders to agree to the deal quickly. Mr. Molyneux has asked for the Thing to be relocated to Windhaven, complaining that the Thingstead in St. Tears is ill-equipped for a permanent legislature and the swelling number of legislative aides necessary to process Prime Minister Ian B. MacLean's new administrative law. But the Liberals have demanded proximity to the Arundel border, calling Ayr a "free speech refuge" for dissidents.

BP. BROITHE EXCOMMUNICATES CATHY BIRMINGHAM, MT
Thingwoman Detained; Leadership Election Controversy Erupts

AYR. The bells tolled at the Cathedral of St. Fergus, and Bishop Broithe closed the gospel and snuffed out a candle at the altar. With that, Catherine mL. Birmingham was excommunicated for publicly advocating for heinous crimes against unborn children as an elected official, in contravention of the laws of the Church.

Although usually parliamentary immunity applies to Thingpersons, the Office of the Enquêteur released a statement reading, "None are immune from ecclesiastical law, so Mr. Smith has decided to prosecute Miss Birmingham, in absentia if need be." An arrest warrant has been issued, but it cannot be served in the County of Arundel, where free-speech laws protect the Thingwoman.

Nonetheless, the MT must travel to Windhaven tomorrow morning in order to vote for the Leader, and if she does, it is likely that Guards will be waiting to arrest her at the county borders. A spokesperson for Liberal leader Douglas MacLeish (MT-Ayr) condemns "inappropriate interference in our democracy." Mr. MacLeish now stands to lose two votes against his Integrity-affiliated rival, William Bowerman (MT-Oa/West Isles).

Awkwardly for the Liberals, Bishop Broithe is the highest-ranking clergyman to frequently criticize the Integrity Party and very often supports their policies from the bishop's bench. It seems that anti-Catholic extremism has fractured the Liberal Party during its greatest chance of taking power in 70 years.

INSURANCE EXECUTIVE WILLIAM BOWERMAN ELECTED LEADER, 14-8
5 Liberal MTs Refuse to Take Their Seats In Protest of Leadership Vote

WINDHAVEN. William MacDougall Bowerman (MT-Oa/West Isles) was elected Leader by a vote of 14-8, in a controversial election hours after Cathy Birmingham, MT, was arrested at the Arundel borders by the National Guard. Five Liberal MTs walked out in protest, including leader Douglas MacLeish (MT-Dalmyre).

Mr. Bowerman is a freshman thingman. Before his election he was the youngest vice president of the insurance division of Mons Pietatis. His understated style is widely seen as a return to the quiet Leadership characteristic of a previous generation of Integrity Party politicians like James Gunn Gallagher.

The new Leader did not directly address the Liberal hardliners' boycott in his brief remarks. Leader Bowerman indicated that royally appointed PM Ian Buchanan MacLean would continue to lead healthcare reform at the Home Office, and he would like to see more rural infrastructure projects and the expansion of the Gunnish Motor Company (GMC) in Dalmyre.
