Elections Draw Near.

Reporting from Minasselómë
As the Parliamentary elections continue to approach, political parties on all sides of the political spectrum have escalated their campaigns and consequently, the political tension. "The nation is very divided and its only been steadily worsening over the past few years." a party spokesman for the current ruling party, Social Democracy Coalition, said. "It's important that the Kingdom of Cúlanor maintains its image as a united people." For over twenty years the left-leaning Social Democracy Coalition has held the majority. Recently however what used to be an uncontested hold on parliament has turned into a fight for control.

The Social Democracy Coalition won a marginal victory over the Workers Solidarity Front, a Marxist-Leninist and Far Left alliance by 3% in the last election two years ago. The Workers Solidarity Front claimed election fraud and that, "conservative interests had payed off the electorate to keep the capitalists in power." The WSF appealed for an independent investigation into the election, but was dismissed a week later. On the streets, WSF members at a rally this year were chanting "Election or Eviction!". When asked, a WSF spokesman said, "The last election was a fraud. How can we expect to gain power and solidarity for the workers in a capitalist system?"

The streets are filled with exuberant activity; rallies and marches fill the streets of many cities as supporters of both sides campaign relentlessly. While those two are so far the top, other parties are out and about as well from the Green Party to the Cúlanor First Party. Police are standing by to ensure no violence occurs and the marches remain peaceful. King Prilagórn urged the public to remain calm and not to focus their political energy on the election and not each other.

"It is important that we preserve our democracy and maintain self-control of ourselves. We must focus all of our political energy on the polls and not on the streets or each other."

Workers Solidarity Front: 23.7%

Green Party: 18.4%

Socialists Advocate Gov't Collapse

Reporting from Minasselómë
Socialists may have big plans for the Kingdom of Cúlanor if they get in office. The post-election goals of Socialists have always called for wide-reaching political and social reforms. But in a televised interview, a party member of the Workers Solidarity Front said that he might like to see an end to the current government. The comment has created a great bit of controversy over the WSF among the media and even the current government.

On a live interview when asked what exactly the WSF had planned if they were elected, he said, "I wouldn't mind seeing the current government entirely renovated. All Monarchies, constitutional or absolute, are outdated and are hardly more than a relic used to make the wealthy wealthier and keep power over the working class." The interview generated massive controversy among the media and political groups. Two days after the interview he changed his position stating that "the WSF has always been a staunch supporter of democracy" and that he did not mean to imply otherwise. He continued to say he was being "overly enthusiastic" and apologized on the Workers Solidarity Front homepage.

However this isn't the first time the WSF has let overly enthusiastic supporters create controversy for the party. Only a week ago at a Socialist-catering rally held by the WSF-affiliated All Workers Communist Party, party members boasted to a cheering crowd that they couldn't change it from the top down then they needed to change it from the "bottom up". Once again, the party apologized and stated that it had not meant to imply the support of violence or terrorism.

Other candidates such as the Green Party and the Socialist Democracy Coalition condemned these claims as attempts to install a "brutal communist regime" and begin an era of repression similar to that of the former Batavian communist regime. "If the Socialists gain power then we will enter an era reminiscent of Jap de Graaf's brutal rule. Do we want that?" SDC members have even suggested that the WSF could be supplied by the Batavian Republican Army and preparing to overthrow the government. WSF and its supporters dismissed these claims as "dillusional" attempts to keep power vested from the workers.

Despite the high amount of controversy created by the socialist alliance, the polls have yet to show any damage to its support base. The election isn't far away and despite aggressive political campaigns and heated debates, none have gained a definite advantage over the other.

Rally Comes To Brutal End After Terrorist Attack

Reporting from Minasselómë
A socialist and left-leaning rally was brutally brought to an end last night when several explosions occurred within the event. Twelve explosions tore the crowd apart at what is strongly believed to have been a planned act of political and domestic terrorism.

While it still has not been confirmed, the WSF claimed to have had up to 7,000 people show up to the event beforehand. However, authorities believe that the real figure stands around 2,000 attendants. The loss of life suffered at the event is devastating, with the confirmed body count so far being over 300 and still rising. Medical teams, fire teams, police, and military have all been called to the scene to help find and rescue as many as possible.

No organizations have claimed responsibility for the attack and authorities have not discerned who was involved and who organized the attack. Police refused to release details of the nature of the explosives or their origin. With families calling and arriving to ensure their loved ones are safe, police and officials have not released the identities of any confirmed to the public. Officials will be contacting families when they have firmly established the identity of a victim, but so far many will have to wait and hope.

King Prilagórn, arriving at the scene only an hour after the attack, released a statement to those families that have been tragically affected by the bombing. He said that he will "promise find those reponsible for the attack and immediately bring them to justice. The shear magnitude of the attack has thrown the country into a state of mourning over those who lost their lives. This day will be remembered as a day of tragedy and loss, sorrow and anger.

I Hyalin Ilaurëa will continue to update its readers on the status of the event.

Terrorism affects all nations and people irrespective of race or belief and the Vangalan nation sends its condolences to the victims' families. Strong action must be taken against the political extremists responsible for the bomb attacks.

Body Count Still Rising

Reporting from Minasselómë
A recent terrorist attack on a WSF rally has put the nation in full alert. Many are mourning the loss of sons, daughters, even mothers and fathers. The body count has been confirmed at 367 as of this writing and family members are being notified. The attack took place in the evening and military grade explosives have been confirmed to have been used. Their origins however are still being determined.

The attack was well planned and thought out and military officials have not ruled out the possibility of foreign involvement. The military could not be reached for further comment. The King has stressed that the situation is under control and assures that any further attacks are "highly unlikely" and that "we won't be caught off guard again".

Military checkpoints have been established around the attack and various strategic "points of interest" to the East and West of the attack zone. Security has been elevated throughout the nation in response to the tragic attack. No arrest warrants have been issued as DNA samples are surprisingly sparse if non-existent and the chemicals themselves of foreign origin or homemade, effectively making it impossible to trace. There have yet to be any concrete witnesses.

There is no trail that we can find, it's as if the explosives simply materialized out of air. commented an investigator. Grim words but he goes on to say that, "no one can get away with an attack of this scale, with this many dead. If there is any justice in the universe, these terrorists will be found and put to justice." We here at I Hyalin Ilaurëa wish the families who have lost loved ones their sincere sympathy and hope that law enforcement succeed in finding these terrorists.

Lead On Terrorist Found

Reporting from Minasselómë
law Enforcement officials have made a breakthrough on the search for answers concerning the recent terrorist attack. Just outside of the area where the attack occurred, a detonator was found. Through DNA analysis, forensic experts found enough genetic material on the detonator to conclusively identify the perpetrator of the terrorist attack.

The detonator was discovered early in the morning today and is believed to be the same device that triggered the explosions. It has also confirmed that there was only one individual involved instead of several. "A detonator helps us confirm that there was only one individual involved and not several. There were multiple explosions at the site during the rally and this device has the capability of triggering multiple explosions at once." a spokesperson said to Hyalin Ilaurëa journalist. "We are convinced that only one individual was involved in this attack."

This came as a massive relief to law enforcement as the prospect of multiple individuals would have made tracking them all down extremely difficult. "It's very possible they could have all left the country by now had this been the case." the spokesperson went on to comment.

When asked whether or not they knew the location of the terrorist he said, "This evidence is sufficient for us to learn who perpetrated this attack. We have determined that he is not a foreign national." When asked for further information he replied sternly that he, "was not at liberty to disclose anymore information" and that the situation is, "under control."

Conspiracy Uncovered Among High Echelons Of Government!

Reporting from Minasselómë
Several Social Democracy Coalition party members have been arrested under the charge of treason, second and third degree murder, and nearly a dozen other criminal charges. Evidence has come to light revealing a conspiracy among the high echelons of the SDC party and were heavily involved in the planning and procuring of the materials used in the recent terrorist attack that left nearly 400 people dead and 800 severely injured.

The military declined to release details of what evidence could implicate the SDC in one of the worst terrorist strikes in Cúlanórean history. Forensics experts, military intelligence, and law enforcement were cooperating and going over the evidence and possible motives that the SDC could possibly have in such an attack. However it is understandably difficult to understand why anyone, especially those of the moderate and reasonable SDC would commit such an act of treason.

Some citizens interviewed on the streets reacted with horror and shock. "They attacked their own people! Are we to live in fear of our own government now?" one passerby exclaimed. Others refused to be interviewed for emotional reasons.

King Prilagórn is expected to address the public and announce judgement on the matter shortly. Many are not expecting leniency or mercy and more than a few are demanding harsh punishments. Familes who lost loved ones in the attack are especially outspoken regarding the matter.

SDC Banned; Members Arrested

Reporting from Minasselómë
After reports about the Social Democracy Coalition’s involvement in the recent terrorist attack that claimed hundreds of lives, King Prilagórn has announced that the party will be banned from taking part in the elections and arrest warrants have been issued for SDC party members. Many members have already been taken into custody and are being questioned as of this report. The King has declared the Social Democracy Coalition a, "threat to the Cúlanórean people and the stability of our quaint nation..."

Despite the arrests many who lost loved ones in the attack have called for the execution of SDC members. The fiasco has opened debate over legalization of the death penalty which was outlawed six decades ago in 1953. "My daughter was one who went to the demonstration. She never came home that night..." one mother told Hyalin Ilaurëa in grief. "Those bastards deserve the same fate she had, our daughter deserved to experience life but now she never will."

This has caused great concern among the liberal community, who have called for the nation to remain calm and to, "...act sensibly before making any changes in law and government." The SDC was one of the few party's with a liberal platform which has caused the left great distress. Many may have to switch their votes over to the Green Party or the Workers Solidarity Front. Some have even called for the election to be halted until another party can be created to replace the Social Democracy Coalition.

In light of the attack, many voters are relocating their votes to the NCPP which was the first to denounce the attacks and has called for stricter measures to prevent attacks in the future. It has also called for the opening of a debate to legalize the death penalty again, stating that the terrorists, "...deserve the same fate as their victims..."

We support the decision of King Prilagorn in his banishment of the Social Democracy Coalition and the ruling to execute these evil socialists for their deeds against the Cúlanórean people. We urge Cúlanor to hold the line and not give in to more liberal countries who would see these terrorists as people who are deserving of life.

Respectfully,

Unless the evidence supposedly compromising the SDC is released and a fair trial is held, the world can only doubt the accusations raised against a notoriously spineless movement such as social democracy.
