Elections Draw Near.

As the Parliamentary elections continue to approach, political parties on all sides of the political spectrum have escalated their campaigns and consequently, the political tension. "The nation is very divided and its only been steadily worsening over the past few years." a party spokesman for the current ruling party, Social Democracy Coalition, said. "It's important that the Kingdom of Cúlanor maintains its image as a united people." For over twenty years the left-leaning Social Democracy Coalition has held the majority. Recently however what used to be an uncontested hold on parliament has turned into a fight for control.
The Social Democracy Coalition won a marginal victory over the Workers Solidarity Front, a Marxist-Leninist and Far Left alliance by 3% in the last election two years ago. The Workers Solidarity Front claimed election fraud and that, "conservative interests had payed off the electorate to keep the capitalists in power." The WSF appealed for an independent investigation into the election, but was dismissed a week later. On the streets, WSF members at a rally this year were chanting "Election or Eviction!". When asked, a WSF spokesman said, "The last election was a fraud. How can we expect to gain power and solidarity for the workers in a capitalist system?"
The streets are filled with exuberant activity; rallies and marches fill the streets of many cities as supporters of both sides campaign relentlessly. While those two are so far the top, other parties are out and about as well from the Green Party to the Cúlanor First Party. Police are standing by to ensure no violence occurs and the marches remain peaceful. King Prilagórn urged the public to remain calm and not to focus their political energy on the election and not each other.
"It is important that we preserve our democracy and maintain self-control of ourselves. We must focus all of our political energy on the polls and not on the streets or each other."
