PACT SIGNED IN SHAHDARA WITH MADAI Free trade and military agreements also signed | Crackdown on communists continues Osmaniye curfew makes life difficult for citizenry |
The Imperial Capital of Shahdara, yesterday witnessed the climatic end of the state-visit by the Crown Prince of Madai, HRH Shahzada Kurush Ali Heidari and the Chancellor of Madai, Mr. K. A. Veisi. During the last day of the official visit, the Chancellor of Madai met with Chancellor Babur Suleymani at the official residence of the Sikandari Chancellor, Feiruzi Palace, where the two heads of government signed a treaty between the two nations. The Pact of Friendship, Cooperation, and Good-Neighbourliness - shortened by many as the "Shahdara Pact" - has bonded the two great nations of Sikandara and Madai. The press was provided with a statement from the Office of the Chancellor of Sikandara, which informed them that the pact with Madai included provisions to enhance strategic cooperation between the two countries, on the level of economic, military and political cooperation. The agreement between the two countries was welcomed by the Sikandari Parliament which passed a resolution immediately ratifying the Treaty. The treaty, it is hoped, with end the uncomfortable silence on the issue of Burjzam province, which both countries in the past have claimed as their territory. Sources close to the Government suggest that the treaty includes a provision that recognizes the current border between the two nations as being the international boundary, with both states allegedly agreeing to drop claims on each other's territory. The Madai Crown Prince was recieved by his Sikandari equivalent, HRH Shahzada-Waleed Mirza Khurram Teymuri at the Fortress of Shahdara where he was granted an audience with His Imperial Majesty Emperor Mir Bahadur II of Sikandara at the imperial durbar. It is said that the Sikandari Emperor gifted the Madai prince with a Pashmina shawl and inducted him into the Sikandari Order of Feiruz. As the delegation from Madai left for Shahdara International Airport, they were granted a guard of honour from the Imperial Guards to accompany their motorcade. As they left Shahdara Fortress, the main avenues of the city were lined with a number of people who saw the spectacle of the foreign prince leaving the imperial citadel. International commentators have said that the visit from Madai was a success and it accomplished more than just the political goals the Veisi government had set out to achieve. | The crackdown in northern city of Osmaniye against the members and supporters of the banned Communist Party of Sikandara continues unabated and has already seen police and paramilitary personnel conduct a series of heavy raids against the known strongholds of Communist Party leaders. The crackdown in the city has been aided by a tough curfew imposed on the city by the Governor of the province, with backing from the Imperial Government in Shahdara, and has made life for the average citizen very difficult in the northern city, known for its crime and violent political clashes. The crackdown has also targeted the other radical party operating in the city, the Republican Party, which has also seen many of its local leaders arrested for inciting violence. The efforts of law enforcement agencies have negatively effected many non-political criminal gangs as well, which have seen a further drop in their activity after last year's campaign against criminals in the city.
