The Sikandari Parliament should stop condemning Galindia from resigning the ICLS, when in reality it was the government of both Sikandara and Auraria that called the Galindian-led commission as being incompetent. It is clearly hypocritical to call the Galindian representatives incompetent and then to condemn the fact that they left the commission. In general we hoped that the international investigation would have alleviated the tensions from the Long Sea region but it seems that neither of the two countries really want it. It is interesting to see how all this commission that was created was just a means to buy some more time, as the war seems to be inevitable if the actions taken in the last days continue.

The Union condemns the ideas of militarization of the civilian shipping in the Long Sea. Both the arming of the civilian ships and the military escorts are steps taken to make the war in the Long Sea come closer and closer. We fully condemn the transformation of the civilian shipping into military one and we urge the Sikandari Empire to stop before it may be too late for thousands of people.

Signed,
Rudiger Holst,
Minister of Foreign Affairs

GOVERNMENT OF SIKANDARA

The Imperial Government addresses the allegations issued to our good offices by the regime in Rijecka:

First, we refuse the charge against us that we are militarising trade vessels. This is an allegation based on one minor report in one of the many newspapers that are printed every day in our country. The press enjoys great freedoms in this Empire and with that comes a risk of irresponsible reporting by a few being blown out of proportion by regimes in lands where such freedoms seem like a silly thing.

The Government of Sikandara has not authorised the fitting of any active weaponry on trade vessels - that is to say no howitzers or other such weapons aimed at destroying, harming, or damaging other vessels or personnel - on any cargo ship officially registered with the Sikandari Government's maritime registry.

We can, however, admit that the Government has considered a policy which would have better radars, radio equipment, and other protective measures being fitted onto the vessels to allow for better communication between port authorities and the vessel, if it is forced into circumstances as were seen by the ships which sank in the Long Sea in May 1955. Though we repeat the fact that this policy has not been implemented and is currently up for discussion in the Imperial Parliament.

Second, we refuse to believe that an international coalition to protect maritime traffic can be anything other than in the interest of the region as a whole. The efforts by Sikandara to call forth respected nations, such as Eiffelland, Bourgogne, Nichstein, and Edessa, to work with us to secure the freedom of the open seas are well intentioned and we will not allow Communist regimes to hijack this venture. At no point in time have we suggested that any such task-force would invade or harm the interests of any nation - civilized or otherwise - and assertions of the kind by the Communist propagandists are baseless. We believe that the stance emanating from Rijecka are the death cries of a failing ideology.

The "Worker's Republic" is not threatened by us but rather by the prospect of the sham of their failing ideology being discovered by the international community. The regime in Rijecka only seeks to pacify its own concerns with regards to their geopolitical impotence by considering the notion that any nation, let alone the Empire of Sikandara, would even bother to upset the balance of a regime that is set to fail on its own accord.

But, in the interests of international peace, we must clarify our position: The despots in Rijecka should remember well that Sikandara does not attack those who have not fired upon us first. We are a peace loving people but we know how to, and have all the means to, respond when such a need arises. This is not our weakness but rather the restraint common to all civilized nations of the world - a concept most unfamiliar to the communist hordes who live with dreams of a global revolution.

GOVERNMENT OF SIKANDARA

The Imperial Government would like to address concerns of the international community, vis-a-vis the proposed Joint Naval Task Force for the Long Sea, by stating that such a task force would be under mandate to ensure that the Long Sea remains free of any aggression on part of any nation in the world. The proposed task-force would be empowered to ensure that all nations can conduct their maritime trade without fear of attacks by hostile forces, as we believe that the high seas are the property of all mankind, with no one deprived of any right to move freely therein.

However, we remind the international community that the Communist nation of Carentania has issued statements in the past where they have showed a territorial interest in the Long Sea, such as by opposing the inclusion of Bourgogne in the ICLS due to the fact that they are not "of the Long Sea". If any party risks politicizing or militarising the Long Sea, such a threat to world peace comes only from the deranged minds of ideological fools from Solis and Rijecka.

Sikandara is committed to ensuring a neutral Long Sea and the task force shall be the most effective measure to ensure that this is the case, and when a more formal proposal is created we would invite the nations of Langerland and Tyarin-Sabassia to also be included in it, in the interests of stabilising the region.

To respond to the statement issued by the Galindian government: We do believe that the report issued by Ms Bachman was deeply flawed in its reasoning. Our concerns were with regards to the inability of the Bachman led commission to do justice to the truth. The withdrawal of the Galindian government from the ICLS, a venture started at their own suggestion, was premature and most harmful to the interests of the international community. Given the concerns of both aggrieved parties, Ms. Bachman's resignation should have sufficed, as the withdrawal of Galindia left the entire commission in an uncertain situation, which could only have suited the guilty party. At this juncture, we must commend the Government of Eiffelland for taking Galindia's place and ensuring that the commission continued to finish the job it was charged with.

AS LONG SEA TENSIONS CONTINUE, IS A LAND ROUTE THE NEXT OPTION?
Rumours in Shahdara that greater cooperation with Tyarin-Sabassia likely to meet orders in Gallo-Germania

SHAHDARA || EMPIRE OF SIKANDARA

The Long Sea tensions, which have calmed down over the past few days as diplomats have hastily sought to pacify the situation, have revealed to many in the imperial capital and in the business centres of the country that the traditional route to the west was fast becoming an infeasible route given the tendency of profound tensions flaring up in the region. Recently, it has emerged that the Suleymani government has opened up talks with its counterpart in Tyarin-Sabassia to expand the existing rail network along the Trans-Touyou railway system to allow for an enhanced ability for Sikandari commodities to be exported to the regions of Gallia and Germania.

Such a scheme would greatly benefit countries such as Langerland, Eiffelland, and Nichtstein due to the routes inability to be affected by communist grandstanding in the Long Sea. It is also said that the Government would be in negotiations with the government of Großlausitz to allow shipments for oil and other commodities to be transported by sea at their ports, thus creating an alternative and more secure route to Bourgogne and Ivernia. Under the new route, it is said, that the longer route around Himar would allow for further shipments to be made and that the Long Sea would gradually be phased down to a less important role for Sikandari shipping.

I would like to point at the presence of a large seaport in the Eiffellandian City of Bremen. This seaport has excellent railway and road connections to Gallia and Germania as well. By using this seaport, Sikandari merchant vessels can avoid the Long Sea Strait along Auraria as well.

Chancellor Suleymani calls for easing of tensions with Auraria

At the Imperial Parliament, this morning, Chancellor Babur Suleymani spoke at length about the government's foreign policy in the immediate aftermath of the Long Sea troubles of the last month, upon being questioned by opposition members belonging to the People's League. The Chancellor began his speech in Parliament by paying his respects to those who lost their lives in the cowardly attacks on Sikandari shipping and humanitarian vessels before launching into direct answers.

The Chancellor stated that the Government in Shahdara believed that foul-play was expected in the sinking of all the ships and this stance was supported by the International Commission on the Long Sea - however, he stated that he further believed that the ICLS was incorrect in stating that the sinking of the first ship occurred in international waters, when in fact it occurred at the very limits of Sikandari territorial waters. The Chancellor has stated that earlier claims of Aurarine involvement in the sinkings was "perhaps too rash" and he seemed to backtrack from them without renouncing them entirely. The Chancellor, however, shot down reports that the Imperial Government had secretly met with its counterpart from Auraria in secret and stated that "no member of this government met any representative of the Solis regime to discuss any official matter".

The speech, which ran over an hour, was noted for the emphasis it placed on the importance of free movement of trade across the world's waterways and how the Sikandari state was committed to the notion of such activities continuing unhindered. In his first official comments on the matter, Chancellor Suleymani seemed to backtrack on the earlier plan of having an international task force protect international shipping lanes - these comments coming after rumours circulated in the world press that the Sikandari proposal had not been well received by the partners the government had approached. However, the Chancellor stated that he would be authorising the use of armed escorts for merchant marine traffic emanating from Sikandara. When questioned by opposition MPs over the legality of the move, the Chancellor stated that the armed escorts were not carrying trade goods themselves and were, for the purposes of international law, not mercantile vessels. The ships which they would guide, however, were mercantile and protected under the laws of the sea from hostile action. He emphasised that the merchant ships, themselves, were not being militarized - as claimed by Communist states earlier.

The Leader of the Opposition questioned the Chancellor about how he would improve the capabilities of the Imperial Navy and other branches of the armed forces, a question which was welcomed by the house on both sides of the aisle. The Chancellor stated that the Imperial Military would, keeping in mind the increased role expected from it, see its financial and physical capabilities expanded upon in the coming years. The Grand Councillor for the Treasury, when asked later about the specifics, stated that the military budget would be expanded upon greatly, which allow the Imperial Military to grow 30% over the next six years.

COMMUNIST PARTY LEADERSHIP TREASON TRIAL COMMENCES
High Court of Justice to hear appeals from condemned defendants

The Imperial Court of Justice - one of the highest legal forums in the realm - is, today, the scene of a highly charged appeals hearing of the eleven senior members of the banned Communist Party of Sikandara, who had been convicted of treason in Osmaniye earlier this year. The former leadership has appealed to the court to challenge the earlier verdict against them on grounds of judicial partiality and political victimisation, on part of the full bench at the High Court of Osmaniye Province. The defendants are being represented by a legal team comprising seventeen lawyers and the Government is represented in court by the Grand Councillor for Justice and the Advocate-General.

If the appeal succeeds, the Communist Party leadership will be saved from the death penalty which comes with the charge of treason, however they still face charges related to a variety of other offences, such as espionage, which carries a life sentence. If, however, the appeal fails, the defendants will be condemned to death and the only recourse left to them will be an official plea of mercy to His Majesty The Emperor. Given the fact that the crackdown on the Communists began after the Emperor issued an edict against them, such a plea is unlikely to be granted.

Supporters of the Communist Party have gathered outside the former headquarters of the party in Osmaniye, which has become a popular location for protests, and await the news from Shahdara. A heavy police presence is in the area to maintain order.

The Democratic Republic of Matara is appalled by the accusations that come from the Empire of Sikandara. Matara is a most humble state that works together with it's people and the Social Republican ideology to develop the economy and standard of living inside the country. In this case, the people means everyone from the lowest caste to the highest one and from Buddhists to Christians and Muslims. We are a responsible player in the international scene and as a response to the statements of the think tank, we will not react in any violent manner that usually gives bad karma, but we will simply invite a few representatives of the said think tank to Matara and see for themselves that there are no violations of human rights nor are the people in any way suffering under the leadership of the Social Republican Party.

But, if the said invitation will be used by the think tank just as a way to cause havoc inside the country and do anything possible to tarnish the reputation of the Democratic Republic, the members of the organization will be considered persona non grata and will not be allowed to enter the territory of the republic until the situation will be solved. We hold dear our friendship with Sikandara, but we wouldn't want our relationship be destroyed by a series of agitators on the basis of human rights violations, which of course don't exist, especially when there are also many voices both from inside the country and from the west that criticize the arrests and trials of communists in Sikandara. Criticism for correction and development is good, but criticism just for the sake of criticism is abhorrent.

Signed,
His Excellency
Savin Duong
Premier of Matara

The Imperial Government cannot agree with the use of the term "agitators" for Human Rights Commission of Sikandara by the Matara government. The Imperial Government finds the discrimination faced by Muslims in Matara to be the truly abhorrent matter. The Social Republican Party has on many occasions refused to properly address the issue and its behaviour has been less than appropriate.

Chancellor Suleymani has asked the Imperial Parliament to formally conduct an investigation to further corroborate the claims of the HRCS vis a vis Matara. Based on the findings of this report, our government shall make firm decisions which will have far reaching impact on the bilateral relations between both countries.

Calls for tribute from Matara!

Speaking with members of the press, the Vice-Chancellor of the Imperial College of History has announced that he has solid evidence that the Kingdom of Matara has failed to live up to its side of the bargain of a treaty signed between Sikandara and Matara in the 18th century. According to him, this treaty has not been set aside and its terms are still binding on the two parties. The main provision which the Vice Chancellor is speaking on is the fact that under the treaty the Matara Government needs to offer tribute to the Sikandari emperor once every ten years. This is something which has not been done in a number of decades. With emotions high in Sikandara due to the immense discrimination faced by ethnic Sikandaris in Matara at the hands of Buddhist extremists, there is a rising tide in Sikandara which is calling for these provisions in the treaty to be enforced. The Imperial Government has chosen to remain quiet on the matter.

The National Salvation Government of the Kingdom of Matara, working infinitely to end the Communist threat in the east and to keep the dignity of the King, Buddhism and People of Matara also stands ready to defend both the prestige and the integrity of the multimillenary state that is Matara. Remembering the series of wars that took place between our countries and always standing in remembrance of the SIKANDARI AGGRESSION and the REPUBLICAN IMPERIALISM, we cannot say anything else but to completely negate and outright reject the requests of the so-called Intellectuals of the Imperial College of History in Shahdara. It is simply preposterous for the Sikandari to remember all kinds of obscure treaties and provisional treaties and come today in front of us and try to get the better of us. We observe that Sikandara is with this showing it's true face, the one of an IMPERIALIST STATE, HELLBENT ON AGGRESSION and we will not stand by and accept all this.

We see how those so called NGOs support the cause of Muslims in Matara, which we recognize their material situation is bad, but the government is using that to destabilize the Kingdom. The Muslims in Matara are not having a bad material situation, in other words live in poverty, not because of some sort of government policies that discriminate them, the way the Sikandari NGOs say (probably behind those NGOs stands the full armored army of the military barely waiting for a war to start), but because of the fact that the Muslims don't want to be part of the social fabric of the Matari society. The flexible caste system that holds Matara together has brought us great development and initiative and thus the Buddhists and even Christians adhering to it, live better. But it is clear that those Muslims that the Sikandari cry for, want to stay out of the Matari society and this is the consequence for their actions. It is also interesting to see how the Sikandari Empire has such an universalist point of view over the Muslims, a few days ago saying that the Muslims are discriminated and now that there are Sikandari ethnics being the ones discriminated. Maybe tomorrow, the Sikandari will say that there are citizens of theirs being discriminated in Cadim, also.

As for the treaty, we said it when the monarchy was restored after the Khoy Saukham wars and we will repeat it now: It is an obsolete piece of paper; that treaty now has nothing but historical value. The treaty has been signed in the First Serey Era and has been obsolete since the republican revolution in 1850 and is still obsolete even today.

Signed,
Prime Minister of Matara,
Marshal Chandarith Meas

The Imperial Government condemns the harsh vitriolic statements emerging from Kampot in recent days. The response of the Matari government is deeply offensive and we are not pleased by the slander against the good name of the Imperial State. The Government of Matara should be more tactful when issuing statements to more respectable quarters. The Imperial Government would, however, like to inform the Kingdom of Matara that the doctrine of desuetude may only be invoked by your ambassador informing us of the condition. As it stands, this has not occurred and the Treaty in question remains valid, albeit not in force.

NO HUMAN RIGHTS IN MATARA! PLIGHT OF MUSLIMS DESPERATE
Parliamentary committee investigating situation for Muslims and other minorities in Matara release report

SHAHDARA || EMPIRE OF SIKANDARA

The special committee set up in the Imperial Parliament to investigate claims brought forward by the Idarah-e-Insani Huqooq (IIH) - a prominent Sikandari non-governmental organisation committed to civil liberties and human rights - which implicated the Government of Matara in turning a blind eye to increasingly harsh measures on the Muslim minority in the country by the Buddhist majority. The Committee in its report has found the situation in Matara for Muslims to be extremely grave and have advised the Imperial Government to condemn its counterpart in Kampot. Upon hearing the findings of the report, Chancellor Suleymani spoke on the floor of the chamber, criticising the Matari government and calling for the international community to take notice.

The Chairman of the IIH welcomed the report by the committee which gives further credence to the earlier claims made by the organisation against the Kingdom of Matara. The IIH has, upon the release of the report, gone ahead and delivered all the evidence in their possession to the notable governments of the world committed to the preservation of human rights. The Embassies of Eiffelland, Nichtstein, Längerland, Bourgogne, and others have been visited by the Chairman of the IIH over the past few days to further draw international attention to the situation.

The official spokesman for Chancellor Suleymani stated that the Imperial Government would be scaling back its level of commitment with Matara. This is decision will be felt particularly hard in the realm of economic cooperation between the two neighbours. Sikandara has served as a big market for Matari cotton exports and Sikandari fertilizer has been popular in Matara. The Grand Council for Petroleum and Natural Energy has, however, stated that existing agreements related to the supply of oil products shall not be affected by the wider government's policy. The IIH has criticized this measure, calling it ineffective and not truly capable of forcing a change of policy in Kampot.

The Troubles of Osmaniye
Despite a return to civilian rule, tensions prevail in this historic city
ASFANDYAR FEROZI

Today, I stand on the steps of the former headquarters of the Communist Party of Sikandara. Before me, Istiklal Square - a former parade ground - lies empty. Behind me, the building stands in silence, darkened and abandoned. While things have been improving in the city, following a ferocious campaign by the security appartus of the Sikandari state, this once vibrant industrial city is on edge. A curfew firmly in place.

Yesterday, Jamal Gul - the former President of the Osmaniye Chapter of the CPS - was executed at the Osmaniye Central Jail, after his appeal against an earlier conviction for treason was rejected by the Imperial Court of Justice. Popular amongst the local community, the scene of his funeral was emotionally charged and his body was received by members of his family and other communist sympathizers with hails of The Internationale rising high in the narrow alleyways of this poor area. Such funerals, following the convictions of a number of members and workers of the banned CPS on similar charges, have become a common occurrence in this city. However, given the seniority of the man in question in life, things were different.

The police presence was heavy and much of the city had been brought to a standstill as a precautionary measure by the Chief Inspector for the duration of the funeral procession. Given the fact that much of the senior leadership of the CPS was now on the verge of being convicted for treason themselves, the city authorities were carefully examining the conduct of the mourners and communist sympathisers on this occasion. Despite the show of force, it was clear that the provincial government was not entirely confident about their control over the city.

The Chief Minister's Residence stands in what was once the Haveli of Begum Soomro - the famed female warlord of the north. Ahmedullah Niazi, from the leftist Worker's and Farmer's Party has been based here since 1945. "When I was elected, I was hardly in an enviable position," he says at the very beginning of the interview.

Elected on the agenda of agricultural reforms, Chief Minister Niazi was a foreigner to the complex dynamics of the local politics of Osmaniye - far removed as they were from his more rural origins. "On one end, I had the support of the province, but my own capital was divided between two groups - the Republicans and the Communists."

For much of his first term in office, as his reform agenda improved the lot for the farming community across the province, discontent in the largest city under his administration grew as political tensions between the Republicans and the Communists led to open gang warfare in many areas of the city. Exploiting changes made to the electoral law, in the 1950 national election (which ushered in the conservative Cerulean Coalition to power) all four constituencies of the city were won by these two radical parties - essentially making the Chief Minister powerless in his own capital.

"There was a time where I had to ask the various MPs from Osmaniye for permission to do things which were clearly within my mandate. The levels of intimidation and harassment that the people were subjected to by these two rival gangs, after the 1950 election, was something that even I could feel here, despite being the legitimate head of the provincial government."
At its zenith, it was almost impossible to challenge the tyranny that the people of Osmaniye faced at the hands of the two groups. This is something which Mariam Elahi can say with personal experience.

From a balcony in an apartment facing the road of the procession of Gul's funeral, the widow of the former Police Sub-Inspector assassinated by CPS workers, recounts the story of how her husband was heading a crackdown on the Communist Party's illegal operations in the city. She laid before me the death threats that her husband would receive, written with the feverish hand of some anonymous ideologue. Her husband's killers were never properly identified. There are hundreds of such widows in the city. Wives of police officers and government officials who refused to cave to the culture of coercion that the Communist and, to a lesser extent, the Republican parties had sought to impose on the city.

For much of the past three years, Sikandara's northern metropolis has been consumed by the operation which has been conducted here. Last month, the military handed over control back to the Osmaniye Police and His Majesty was present to witness the transfer of power from the Governor back to the Chief Minister - upon the lifting of Governor's Rule. But matters remain tense.

This large city still houses vast numbers of Communist sympathisers and its many slums still harbour the foot soldiers of the failed revolution. As I pen the last words to this article, the sound of gun fire echoes in the distance. Then silence once more.
This is the first article in a series on the situation in Osmaniye

The National Salvation Government of the Kingdom of Matara firmly condemns the actions taken by the Sikandari parliament. It is interesting to see how hypocrisy itself rules Sikandara in these days. There are no Imperials, no Popular League, no Intellectual Reformers, no Communists and no Republicans; there are only hypocrites. It can clearly be seen how they continuously condemning the life the Muslims have in Matara, a life they choose to have, because they prefer to life outside the caste system and care more of the dogmatic afterlife than the current one and don't see how in Sikandara, people are executed by the hundreds.

We are sure that those people executed in Sikandara, branded atheist-communists, were most likely Muslims. Why doesn't the Sikandari parliament and the the human rights NGOs care of those Muslims? Is there really no plight of Muslims in Sikandara? We see how they are killed and executed both through legal methods but also in extrajudicial killings. Instead of caring for those, the Sikandari parliament cares of the Muslims that live in poverty in Matara. It is clear that they do this only to destabilize and to destroy the oriental kingdom that always blocked their expansionist aspirations to the east.

We ask the governments of Eiffelland, Nichtstein, @Längerland and Bourgogne to stop this folly of the Sikandari as it clearly is an invasion of the national sovereignty of the Kingdom of Matara. We hope that the Western states will see that Sikandara is an aggressive state ready to attack anyone it feels weak or weakened. They are unscrupulous and don't care of human right, just look at the way they resolved their so called communist crisis. We have always seen the Occident as being correct and for it we hope that you understand how this so called report is a way to prepare a Sikandari invasion of Matara.

Signed,
Prime Minister of Matara,
Marshal Meas Chandarith
