As peace returns, reforms appear

Chagny

As the Grand Duke has brought quiet to Burgundian streets, he has also moved to bring new reforms to the Grand Duchy. Grand Duke Maximilien offered a 36 point plan today which covers reforms to infrastructure and the tax code. The majority of critics have not been exceedingly vocal but have pointed out that the Grand Duke's 36 point plan lacks depth. Some vocal critics have loudly criticized the reforms as a clear power grab by the Grand Duke prior to next month's scheduled elections. The critics also say that the creation of a Grand Duchy is a clear move to bring nobility to power.

Grand Ducal Forces launch surprise offensive in Green Peninsula

Dahloa

15,000 troops launched a mass offensive against remaining communist rebels throughout the Green Peninsula. The move comes as the Green Peninsula will hold elections in 1960 and will establish full independence. The move comes as heavy anti-communist rhetoric from Chagny spurred requests from community leaders in the Green Peninsula to hunt down remaining communist rebels and leadership within the colony. The Ducal government released a statement which specified that the direct mission was to "root and and destroy armed opposition to the establishment of a free and democratic Green Peninsula".

We thank Sikandara for the kind words. We welcome observers to join with elements of our forces.

Ducal forces pound northern city of Ulwahri

Dahloa

Following reports that the remaining communist rebel militia members had moved into the city of Ulwahri, Ducal forces have taken decisive action. According to a military spokesmen, about 600 rebels are in Ulwahri (a city of 2,000). Army paratroopers and commandos airdropped into the surrounding farmland and engaged in a vicious battle this morning, pushing rebels into city limits. It is unclear what the status of the civilians in the city is now that more army forces have arrived to encircle the city. Attempts to negotiate a surrender have failed. The spokesmen noted that they expect full reinforcements to arrive sometime this weekend and a push for the city will be made.

Burgundian Forces slam communist positions

Dahloa

In the Green Peninsula, the communist is being hunted. Troop numbers have swelled as Burgundian Army units have pushed the rebels to the brink. Artillery barrages lasted throughout the night as the Army prepares for what they hope will be the final push to eliminate the rebels. Aircraft carrying rockets have also been continually mauling enemy positions. So far, 37 Burgundian troops have been killed during the offensive.

Combat operations ceasing as Grand Ducal Navy dispatches ships to Long Sea

Chagny

A Ducal spokesman announced a resounding success in anti-insurgent operations in the Green Peninsula; though he noted 53 Burgundians died in the fighting. "Our forces have killed or captured a thousand rebels" said the spokesman. Bourgogne has promised to guarantee elections and moves to independence in 1960 with independence by December, 1960. In reactions to further communist rebels, Burgundian forces launched a mass operation to quickly quell the small rebellion. As tensions continue to rise in the recent maritime incidents, Grand Ducal Naval ships have been dispatched to the Long Sea for observation purposes.

To the People of Bourgogne,

The United Communes of the Aurarine State strongly advises that the Kingdom of Bourgogne reconsider its decision to deploy combat vessels to the Long Sea for observational purposes. The Workers’ Government acknowledges the current situation in the Long Sea and is actively working to calm the growing tensions in our home.

The Kingdom of Bourgogne is not of the Long Sea and thus its Navy has no business in those waters. The deployment of these vessels can only be seen as an imperialist act on the part of the Kingdom to flex muscle.

That is how it is seen and how it will be interrupted. Bourgogne’s combat vessels entering the Long Sea will prompt increased deployments from the People’s Navy to secure the stability of the region and defense of our sovereign soil. We once more reiterate, reconsider the deployment.

Signed,
Cayetano A. Palomo
Commissar of Foreign Affairs
Solis, Auraria

Office of the Grand Duke

First, we wish to remind the United Communes of the Aurarine State that Bourgogne is a Grand Duchy and not a kingdom. Second, we have dispatched 2 mine-hunting vessels which have minimal armament. These vessels were specifically chosen due to their minimal combat effectiveness in maritime operations outside of a narrow scope of anti-mine operations. If the United Communes of the Aurarine State finds this threatening, we apologize. The ships have been already dispatched and will arrive in the Long Sea shortly. We will advise them, due to their apparently threatening nature, to remain well clear of your waters.

Grand Duke: Mistakes on both sides. Aurarian behavior unacceptable

Chagny

In an interview given to Soleil Magazine, the Grand Duke expressed his views on the developing Long Sea situation. According to the Grand Duke "Nations are playing a dangerous game. Both sides of the issue have made mistakes. We are dividing ourselves on ideological lines and throwing peace to the sharks". The Grand Duke was also asked about the recent diplomatic attacks made by the Aurarian government. The Grand Duke was perplexed by the recent moves. "Auraria has in the same week accused the Burgundian people of genocide and purposefully referred to me as a King and the Grand Duchy as a Kingdom. This behavior is unacceptable". The Grand Duke is expected to give a speech about the upcoming elections tomorrow.

Bourgogne Removed From Investigative Commission......Which Goes On To Fail.

Chagny

A government spokesman explained the removal of Bourgogne from the investigative body investigating the sinkings in the Long Sea. Citing international pressure based on Burgundian military operations, the government spokesman noted the a Burgundian representative was most unwelcome. Despite a few protests, Bourgogne eventually ceased opposition to removal from the investigation. Recently, it has become clear a level of distrust and utter chaos has reigned on the commission; threatening to destroy it. While it has failed up to now, the body shows possibility of reaching some level of ability. According to the spokesman, Bourgogne may conduct an independent investigation of its own.

Burgundian Military pulling out from Green Peninsula, Naval exercises to be conducted

Chagny

Burgundian military spokesmen have confirmed that combat operations have reached "extreme low levels" in the Green Peninsula and officials say that they will begin large scale withdrawals of troops. Troop levels are to return to normal levels with security primarily given to Colonial Forces. Meanwhile as the investigation fiasco continues in the Long Sea, Burgundian naval forces are to conduct exercises in the Thaumantic Ocean. However, this is to take place far from the Long Sea said one official.

Bureau de l'Aéronautique et de l'Espace seeking foreign partners

Ouistreham

The Burgundian Bureau of Aeronautics and Space is apparently seeking foreign partners to further astronomical work. The Bureau announced that it intends to build a program to launch satellites and work on improving the current methods of charting space. "The ideal partners would likely work together to build a peaceful and cohesive space program over many decades" said the Bureau.

The Eiffellandian universities, together with Dassau Flugzeugwerke and the Rathenau Gruppe, are very much interested in a cooperation as lined out by the Burgundian Bureau of Aeronautics and Space.

Grand Duke to push for early elections in Green Peninsula

Chagny

In a press conference, the Grand Duke fielded several questions but also announced that he wishes to see elections take place in the Green Peninsula as early as January with full independence coming in May or June of next year. The Grand Duke stated that he wished to confer with the council of representatives in Dahloa. He further implied that the decision would be made in the coming weeks. Many expect Burgundian Forces to have a minimal presence in the Green Peninsula at least through next year. The Grand Duke offered only a few answers to questions asked but did announce that the elections would be open to any candidate of any party.

The Imperial Government welcomes the efforts by the Grand Ducal Government in Burgundy to instil democratic values and ideals of progress in the peoples of the Green Peninsula. The Imperial Government continues to stand in solidarity with its friends in Chagny as it enters the next phase of its historical disengagement with Himyar.

Also we commend the Grand-Duke of Bourgogne for stimulating democracy in the Green Peninsula. We fully trust his judgement that the Green Peninsula will be ready for independence earlier than originally foreseen.
