PRESIDENT VLAHOVIC'S ISOLATION GROWS STRONGER.

NOVA SRBJA - The decision of the Yiddish Free State to close the border with nova Srbja marks the second time in a week, after Istokgrad issued an unilateral declaration of independence, that President Vlahovic suffers a diplomatic setback, suggesting that the isolation of the remnants of the Federal Government is accelerating, and that the conflict is sliding inexorably into a primarily ethnic civil war between Novosadians and Srbjans. What effect will this decision have? Vlahovic will feel more isolated, though earlier Kadikistani pressure did not bring any easing of the civil war claimed 300.000 lives since 1946. So while it remains impossible to predict how the bloody Srbjan civil war will end – it is now not a sure bet that Vlahovic will be running things in Banja Luka when that moment comes. From Novosad, the regime of General Dragan Milutinovic celebrated the Yiddish Free State decision to close the border. The move, the General said "Only shows how little the international community supports the Srbjan scum". A propaganda song, mocking President Vlahovic for the betrayal of "his jewish friends", was aired on Novosad's state radio to boost the morale of the Novosad Liberation Army.

Oi Filip, Filip!
Father of the Eagle,
the Grand Duke will also turn his back on you.

Oi Filip, Filip!
Receive a cold shower,
your Yiddish friend is smiling in your face.

Oi Filip, Filip!
Srbjan degenerate,
Dragan will lead you thirsty across the water.

Oi Filip, Filip!
Small are your borders,
they would've been greater,
had you stayed with us.

There are no more srbjan pies,
made from Novosad's golden wheat!

Oi Filip, Filip!
You're awfully mad at us,
because Novosad will not sell itself for flour.

Oi Filip, Filip!
Why do you need food?
How many winters do you think you'll have?

Oi Filip, Filip!
You will lose your honor,
when Dragan takes the sheep,
and sends back the fat.

Oi Filip, Filip!
Something is wrong with you.
You think you are big,
but you are so small.

Oi Filip, Filip!
You have a terrible flaw,
'cause daddy you have chosen the totally wrong side.

Oi Filip, Filip!
What are you going to do now?
You've been betrayed by the communist scums.

Oi Filip, Filip!
we too had called you
but you wanted to become the great King.

Oi Filip, Filip!
Maybe you did not know,
you have flown high,
but you fell really low.

There are no more srbjan pies,
made from Novosad's golden wheat.

The Free State maintains its belief that the Federal government in Banja Luka, led by President Filip Vlahovic, remains the sole legitimate authority of Novo Srbja, and does not in any way, shape or form recognise the breakaway states of Novosad and Istokgrad. The closure of our shared border was motivated purely by a concern for the safety and security of our citizens, and does not represent a rejection of the people of Novo Srbja.

Our firm hope is that all sides will come to the negotiating table and end this needless conflict. We are willing to host any talks in Amstov.

BIG BATTLE ERUPTS IN NOVA SRBJA

NOVA SRBJA - The nationalist militia "Garda Panteri", in the Kosmovak Autonomous Province, said today that its forces had begun an offensive against Novosad border fortifications on the northern front and that federal militiamen were advancing. Novosad said it had contained the drive. Both sides said heavy casualties had been inflicted on the other. It was clear that heavy fighting had erupted, but neither side's claims could be verified since outsiders are rarely allowed to visit the front. The Garda Panteri radio said the drive, on the border west of the town of Kosmovak, had resulted in at least 200 Novosadian casualties, both dead and wounded. The Novosadian radio gave no casualty figures, but said Novosad Liberation Army troops backed by tank had sent the Garda Panteri into disorderly flight. Kosmovak also said the Novosad had shelled Kosmovak's border towns, killing five civilians, the latest in a week of cross- border artillery attacks. Kosmovak's communiques said its troops had advanced west of the town and regained Federal territory that had been under Novosad's occupation since the first day of war.

Meanwhile, the Federal Gendarmerie said its troops had crossed into Novosad's territory south of Banja Luka. The communique said the drive started around midnight Tuesday, with Federal troops advancing along a 70-mile-wide sector in the southern front. The Federal Gendarmerie communiques said a federal force "attacked the border guards" observation post of the Novosad Liberation Army, deployed in the central sector." This was met with a counterattack, the communique added. The Federal Gendarmerie also said NLA artillery continued its daily shelling of Srbjan towns. A senior Federaln official said today that Nova Srbja and Novosad had a total of 35.000 men pitted against each other. He said "a great trench-warfare battle" appeared to be in the making.

MASSACRE IN BANJA LUKA, 250 DEAD.

BANJA LUKA, NOVA SRBJA - NLA forces and militiamen loyal to General Milutinovic's regime killed at least 146 people when they stormed a Banja Luka suburb after five days of fighting, Federal Gendarmerie servicemen in the area said on Friday. There was no immediate confirmation of the Federal Gendarmes' account of what they described as a "massacre", including of women and children, in Banja Luka. A spokesperson of the Federal Gendarmerie said the number of dead may be higher than 250, mostly shot at close range, but the ongoing fighting made documenting all of them difficult.

"Western Banja Luka was a lost cause from day one because it was sorrounded by the NLA from every direction. There are almost no wounded because they were shot on the spot," he said. The killings happened over several days when Federal Forces attacked an area where there were up to 1500 rebels, the spokesperson said, adding that he had counted 98 bodies in the streets and 86 people who he said had been summarily executed in makeshift clinics where they were lying wounded. A spokesperson for the Ministry of Defense said: "We documented 85 summarily executed, including 28 shot in a makeshift hospital after NLA forces entered western Banja Luka, in retaliation against the assault carried out by the Federal Gendarmerie. We fear that the victims of the massacre are much higher." The Nova Srbjan Observatory for Human Rights, a monitoring group operating from Istokgrad, said it documented 80 names of people killed, including twelve children and fifteen women.

NOVA SRBJA TODAY EDITORIAL: A DIFFERENT COUNTRY AFTER TEN YEARS OF WAR.

Its first moments were fleeting and furtive, small but significant.
Young women unfurled protest banners from their handbags on a busy Novosad street in 1946, then quickly retreated. Boys sprayed graffiti on a school wall. Ten years on, the Nova Srbja civil war is now one of the longest, most vicious conflict of Europe in what was first poetically depicted with the fall of the regime and the return of Democracy in the small slavic country. Many young recruits of the defunct Nova Srbjan People's Army, replaced in 1946 by the Federal Gendarmerie, who first raised their heads and voices and refused to open fire on protesters in Banja Luka, are now disenchanted, fighting against the Novosad Liberation Army or dead. The cries of the Srbjan people have long since been drowned out by the deafening roar of a destructive war which sets a multiplying array of opposition forces against the Federal Government and loyalist militias. On all sides, there's the most bewildering array of outside actors ever seen in any war, anywhere. And then there's the so-called People's Republic of Istokgrad. Nova Srbjas's war is now everyone's war.

Between 1836 and 1922, Nova Srbja was a middle-income constitutional monarchy known as Kingdom of the Srbjans, exceptional hospitality, exquisite cuisine, fabled charm, strongly tied to its past, a glorious past. A past of achievements, a past of independence, a past of sovereignty, a past of freedom. It was a place in the early 1920's where, in the wake of growing socialist unrest, I was constantly told "revolution is not for us, we prefer Srbja to evolve". A former government official recently admitted to me it meant "change so slow, it was glacial". Over the past ten years of reporting on a extraordinary country's astonishing turn, many small moments told a much bigger story.

In winter 1945, during the last years of the Socialist Federal Republic of Nova Srbja, among crowds milling around a market, a young man nervously thrust a crumpled message into a colleague's hand. It read: "Thank you. But no one can meet with you because the secret police is in the street. All people are afraid." "Look down the road," another man whispered tersely in my ear, as intelligence attired in track suits slipped through an anxious crowd in a residential district of Banja Luka. Down the road, soldiers stood in wait and riot squads were in sight. Six months later, a people too afraid to even to say they were afraid had lost their fear. Down that same road, residents beckoned us inside a warren of winding lanes filled with chants of protestors. The socialist regime had collapsed, and the people were back in charge. Another six months on, that road was sealed off and silent. Autumn 1946 The Srbjan civil war had begun. As the years dragged on, the momentum of battle shifted between sides. Everyone paid a price.

The worst in Nova Srbja has been the worst no one could have imagined. In 1953 in the village of Nis, where news spread of a massacre, we opened a door on a sprawling compound to find houses of horror. Charred bodies sprawled inside rooms and slumped across doorways, left where they'd been shot and burned. Washing hung on the clothes line and food was still in the oven. Federal Gendarmes who escorted us blamed fighters of the Novosad Liberation Army. A villager whispered that members of a pro-government militia "had acted without orders". In Nova Srbja's war, truth has been as hard to find as peace. At times, there was a massacre almost every day. In every instance, someone lives with the knowledge of what really happened. Someday, there will be a reckoning. Every weapon has been deployed, no one spared: neighbourhoods wiped out, barrel bombs unleashed, even children tortured. One of my colleagues, who filmed our footages on most trips, asked a man lingering by a graveside how our warm people could have descended into such darkness. "There's a wild beast within all of us," he sighed.

Ten years later, defiance and distrust are undiminished. Nova Srbja is a different country now. Hundred thousands fled with their children to try to begin a new life elsewhere. Most of them now live in the Yiddish Free State, and dream to return to their homeland. But Nova Srbja isn't lost - yet. Somewhere in between this atrocities a new Nova Srbja, with remnants of its old self, could still emerge from these ruins - but only if this war stops stealing its future.

BREAKING NEWS: NLA ANTI-AIR ENGAGES BOURGOGNE'S AIRCRAFTS OVER THE SKIES OF BANJA LUKA

BANJA LUKA, NOVA SRBJA - According to the Federal Gendarmerie of Nova Srbja, militants of the Novosad Liberation Army have attempted to shoot down planes of the Grand Duchy of Bourgogne as Ducal aircrafts enforced the air exclusion zone over the skies of Banja Luka, where ongoing fighting is still reported in the western suburbs of the city. President Filip Vlahovic, Commander in Chief of the Federal Gendarmerie, said operations were on the way to neutralize NLA anti-air batteries. “We have always made the operational assumption that the Novosad Liberation Army inventory might, at some juncture, include SA-1 Guild surface-to-air missiles,” he told reporters in eastern Banja Luka. “There have been reports of engagements here in Banja Luka but to no material effect.” It was the first public acknowledgement in Nova Srbja of the risk posed to pilots flying in the continuing mission to enforce an air exclusion zone in Nova Srbja, with NLA militants believed to have being launching sporadic attacks against the Grand Duchy's Airforce for the past 24 hours. Initially, NLA was believed to possess only anti-aicraft flaks.

SRBJAN CIVIL WAR: WHY THIS ENDLESS CONFLICT IS AT A DECISIVE POINT

NOVA SRBJA -
The Nova Srbjan conflict has reached a stalemate and President Filip Vlahovic's government will call for a ceasefire at a long-delayed conference in Banja Luka on the Federal Republic's future, the Head of State has said in an interview with Nova Srbja Today. Vlahovic said that neither side was strong enough to win the conflict, which has lasted ten years and caused the death of more than 350.000 people. The President also that the Nova Srbjan economy had suffered catastrophic losses. "Neither the Federal Gendarmerie or the Novosad Liberation Army is capable of defeating the other side," he said. "This zero balance of forces will not change for a while." Meanwhile, he said, the Srbjan economy had lost an equivalent to 12 years of normal production, during the war. If accepted by the Novosad Liberation Army, a ceasefire would have to be kept "under international observation", which could be provided by monitors or peace-keepers as long as they came from neutral countries, he said.

Leaders of the Republic of Novosad, including General Dragan Milutinovic have repeatedly refused to go to what is called "Banja Luka One" unless Vlahovic first resigns. Asked what proposals his government would make at Banja Luka, he said: "An end to external intervention, a ceasefire and the launching of a peaceful political process in a way that the Novosadian people can enjoy self-determination without outside intervention and in a democratic way.". With the ongoing saber-rattling in Europe, and the risk of a catastrophic global war, Nova Srbja seems to be diving into international isolation as sporadic fighting is reported along the de-facto border between the Federal Republic of Nova Srbja and the Republic of Novosad. War exhaustion has reached alarming levels. According to unofficial reports, fighting has ceased in most trenches of the southern frontline due to a lack of ammunitions and reinforcements on both Federal Gendarmerie and Novosad Liberation Army's sides of the frontline.

The Banja Luka peace talks between the Federal Gendarmerie and the Novosad Liberation Army will begin in the next few days in Banja Luka in an atmosphere of almost undiluted gloom about the prospects for success. The two sides hate each other and have spent ten years trying to kill each other, making it unlikely that they will agree to share power in any way except geographically, with each side keeping the territory it currently holds and defending it with its own armed forces. This pessimism is difficult to contradict, given that several of the most powerful groups doing the shooting will not be present in Banja Luka. Neither the Garda Panteri militia nor the paramilitary groups loyal to Dragan Milutinovic are invited, not that it was ever likely that they would turn up even if they were. There are disputes about who exactly is the separatist.

The problem about ending the war in Nova Srbja is that there is a multitude of players who are too strong to lose but too weak to win. Countries and movements such as the Federal Republic, Novosad, Kosmovak and Istokgrad see themselves as fighting for their very existence in a war they cannot afford to lose. Wars sometimes end by exhaustion rather than agreement, and that may be the best that can be expected for Nova Srbja. Local ceasefires and armed truces would be put in place, like the 250 or more that periodically interrupted the 10-year civil war. The difficulty here is that cult-like movements such as NLA and Garda Panteri exist to fight for and live up to their nationalist hatred by fighting what they see as demonic enemies. They are not like the Federal Government and the Srbjan Communist party in the first stages of the war in the late 1940's who used to occasionally find it in their mutual interests to stop trying to kill each other.

Winners and losers are beginning to emerge in Nova Srbja, though not all of those involved can see this. The Federal Gendarmerie is looking increasingly battered by a medley of militia groups sponsored by the Novosad Liberation Army, though it is nowhere near defeat. The Federal Government trumpeting the recapture of Banja Luka, but the Federal Gendarmes that took over the ruined city number only about 1500 soldiers. The Garda Panteri militia who recaptured several villages in Novosad-held territory have not been paid for two weeks, because the Federal Government is bankrupt. The Novosad Liberation Army is short of men and, while its morale may be higher thanks to the initial victories, it is still exhausted by ten years of war. The Federal Gendarmerie are successful, but averse to being used as cannon fodder by the Federal Government and they are nervous of a possible Kadikistani intervention.

The war in Nova Srbja is far from over but, as winners and losers emerge, the chances of local ceasefires and, ultimately, some sort of peace will become more feasible. The Federal Govbernment and the Novosad Liberation Army may not be able to agree in Banja Luka, but the people of Nova Srbja are becoming increasingly eager to bring the conflict to an end

The Free State welcomes the tentative steps towards peace and stability in Novo Srbja, although recognises a genuine settlement between the different conflicting parties is still a long way off. We urge all sides to avoid any solution that sees Novo Srbja formally partitioned, or that undermines the legitimacy of the democratically-elected administration of President Filip Vlahovic.

CEASEFIRE AGREED IN NOVA SRBJA

NOVA SRBJA - The Federal Government and the Novosad Liberation Army have agreed a nationwide ceasefire from 8:00PM on Wednesday. The deal was announced by Federal Republic's President Filip Vlahovic and confirmed by General Dragan Milutinovic in the Republic of Novosad. If the truce holds, peace talks will be held in Banja Luka tomorrow. At least 40.000 people are believed to have been killed in fighting that followed the return of hostilities in the small siavic nation in the first week of May. A further 150.000 have fled the country to seek refuge in neighbouring Yiddish Free State. It is nominally nationwide, although that really only covers the areas where the sides who have signed up to the truce have a presence.

Announcing the deal in Banja Luka, President Vlahovic said there were three key points: Ceasefire between the two sides, Measures for overseeing the truce, An agreement to start peace talks, a process of nominal reunification within a renewed confederation between Srbja and Novosad being the two major entities. Under the terms of the deal, the peace talks would begin within 24 hours of the ceasefire taking effect - and holding - and would be held in the capital of the Federal Republic of Nova Srbja, Banja Luka. The People's Republic of Istokgrad will not take part in the peace talks, the Federal Government of Nova Srbja and the Government of the Republic of Novosad said.

"The international community has betrayed Srbjans aswell as Novosadians. Foreign powers seeked to establish their supremacy in our nation and succeeded in the eastern so-called People's Republic of Istokgrad, where traitors and opportunists are now dismantling a democratic and plural society to enforce a totalitarian dictatorship which Nova Srbja had rejected more than 10 years ago. All of us, Srbjans and Novosadians, believed we were fighting for the survival of our respective cultures and identities. The harsh reality of international politics, shows that foreign nations seeked to expand their influence, and ultimetely oppress our people, while exploiting our weaknesses. This hour of extreme danger, however, has prompted all parties involved in the conflict to settle their disputes trought talks and negotiations. The first step, is to begin peace talks and negotiations with the Republic of Novosad, and agree on a common path to rebuild our nation, provide relief to our people, defend our sovereignty and protect our freedom." said President Vlahovic in a statement.

The prospect for a lasting peace in Nova Srbja was as short as it was hopeful. We condemn the Vlahovic regime in the highest possible way for turning their backs to stability by allying themselves with the fascist Novosad Liberation Army and openly demonizing the Srbjan Communist Party and the whole of Istokgrad. We are extremely puzzled as to the motivation of the Federal Government to suddenly and abruptly allying themselves with the very forces who caused this crisis, committing various crimes against humanity in the process. Mass graves and civilian execution are apparently quickly forgotten by the corrupted regime and their masters in Chagny. While we do not wish to speculate, it seems evident that this new unholy coalition against the SCP was at least in some amounts forced upon them by the external powers that seek only to bring the Srbjan people within their own sphere of influence. However, we do not wish to cause yet another escalation and while we warn the Western elites that such actions are as dangerous as they are transparent, we remain committed to peace and a diplomatic solution to the Srbjan conflict. Unlike false propaganda from Trivodnia would have its people belief, there have never been open, armed hostilities between the militias controlled by the Srbjan Communist Party and those belonging to the Federal Gendarmerie. In fact, despite provocations such as the sealing of the border and war-hungry rhetoric from the Vlahovic clique and their external masters, the Istokgrad militias have never stopped fighting and dying side-by-side with the Federal Gendarmerie against the inhumane fascist scourge.

While we cannot, but see a Burgundian hand in these recent changes on behalf of the Vlahovic clique, we will not be tempted for another round of sabre-rattling where Bourgogne and it's allies somehow manage to appoint the role of aggressor to Kadikistan. Rather we wish to offer a diplomatic solution to this conflict. We are willing to organize a conference in which we will, in a more detailed fashion, announce our proposition to end this conflict peacefully while offering the other potential partners a chance to bring forward their own proposals or suggestions. In short, the Kadikistani peace-proposal is one where the Federal Government of Nova Srbja is transformed, with the consent of the people through referendum, into a loose confederacy which allows it's respective regions with even more autonomy than it does today. The Confederal states, Nova Srbja, Novosad, Istokgrad and possibly even Kosmovak, would have the jurisdiction to even decide their own economy and political system, bound by specific rules, while defence and foreign policy remain the sole competence of the confederate government. The latter elected through internationally monitored, free elections. A balance in the foreign policy must be maintained to keep Nova Srbja from completely falling into one camp or the other. Unless through a pyrrhic victory in a devastating global war, Nova Srbja will not belong to either Chagny nor Ivar. That is a reality that we urge the Burgundians to accept. That is the reality that is best for the Novo Srbjan people, who have wasted more then enough blood to earn their right to self-determination.

We hope that all parties involved will end their dangerous games for the sake of power, and accept this hand for the sake of peace and stability.

Statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs

Federal Republic of Nova Srbja

The Nation of Nova Srbja seeks to resolve its issues trought internal debate, rather than entrust foreign third parties to shape the future of our people. The Federal Government does not believe the Democratic Republic of Kadikistan will eventually make the interests of Nova Srbja. In the same way we are also disenchanted by the real motives behind the international support we have received. We will however remember the support of the Orthodox Church of Nova Srbja, and in particular our Orthodox brothers and sisters in the Empire of Pelasgia.

We do not aim to transform the nation of Nova Srbja into an instrument at the disposal of foreign powers which seek to settle their disputes, and eventually provide yet another show of force by enforcing this, or that system, in the nation of Nova Srbja. Nova Srbja is not a training ground for international politics, and if the path of isolationism is the safest path for the people of Nova Srbja, we will undoubtely choose such path. The future of Nova Srbja will be shaped by the People of Nova Srbja, and the future of the nation of Nova Srbja does not necessarily include the People's Republic of Istokgrad. With or without the participation of the Government of Istokgrad, the reunification of Nova Srbja into a new State Union will take place as soon as all parties involved in the Banja Luka Conference will reach an agreement.

THE FUTURE OF NOVA SRBJA: TWO ENTITIES, ONE NATION.

BANJA LUKA, FORMER FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF NOVA SRBJA —
Governments of the Republic of Srbja and the Republic of Novosad, have announced the preliminary negotiations for the Establishment of the State Union of Srbja and Novosad, sending tens of thousands of ethnic Srbjans and Novosadians streaming through the streets to celebrate what they hoped was the end of a long and bloody struggle for national self-determination. As Srbjans and Novosadians danced in the streets and fired firecrackers in the air in the capital of the proposed State Union, Banja Luka, international reaction was sharply divided, suggesting that the clash between the western and eastern powers was far from resolved. The Yiddish Free State, Bourgogne and Pelasgian Empire are expected to be the first to recognize the new nation, while other nations such as Kadikistan, have said in the past they will refuse to recognize another Vlahovic administration in the new establishment of Nova Srbja.

Novosad’s Head of Government, Mr Dragan Milutinovic, a former leader of the guerrilla force that just over 10 years ago began an armed rebellion against the Federal Government, struck a note of reconciliation. Addressing the Banja Luka Peace Conference in Srbjan language, he pledged to protect the rights of Novosad’s Srbjan minority. “I feel the heartbeat of our ancestors,” he said. “We, the leaders of our people, democratically elected, through this declaration proclaim the Republic of Novosad a sovereign entity within the State Union of Srbja and Novosad.” Nova Srbja, a desperately poor, predominantly slavic landlocked geographical region of 2,4 million, has been at war since 1946. Its unemployment rate is about 60 percent and average monthly wage is 90 dinars. Electricity is so undependable that lights go out in the capital several times a day. Corruption is rife and human trafficking threatens to entrench a lawless state on the west’s doorstep.

Ethnic Novosadians from as far away as the western borders of Nova Srbja poured into Banja Luka over the weekend, to dance in frenzied jubilation. Beating drums, waving the proposed flags of the State Union of Srbja and Istokgradand throwing firecrackers, they chanted: “It is over! The war is over!”. Novosad played a central role in the collapse of the Nova Srbjan federation built by the Communist regime in 1922. Novosadian nationalism erupted in Nova Srbja in 1946, leading to a bloody civil war. But in a sign of positive progress, the distinctive two-headed eagle of Nova Srbja was everywhere on friday, held by revelers, draped on horses, flapping out of car windows and hanging outside homes and storefronts across the territory.

We recognise the outcome of the Banja Luka conference, and recognise the State Union of Nova Srbja and Novosad. We also express our happiness about the fact that the civil war has ended. We look forward to the first steps of the new State Union on the international state, and hope for a fruitful cooperation in the future.

The Free State welcomes the return of peace to Novo Srbja, and looks forward to working with the new State Union as a close regional partner. It is our sincere hope that the rebel administration in Istokgrad looks at the successes of the Banja Luka conference and reconsiders its position as a breakaway statelet.

In government of Varinia wishes to congratulate the people of Srbja for the end of the war, showing the world that diplomacy and words are stronger than weapons and thus giving the world a perfect example over how relationships both between states by also inside them can be more constructive if they are done with responsibility and respect. As Varinia too is a wounded nation, passing through a failed rebellion and a successful anti-communist revolution, it understands the plight of Srbja and it's people and it believes that through the similar path both our nations took in history, we can create a bond between us that can develop in a real friendship and a partnership for peace.

Varinia urges Srbja itself and the politicians who signed the acts of the State Union to respect it for the sake of the people and of peace and not to use it as a populist tool through which they will gain supporters, preparing for a third round of fighting. Varinia hopes that the world will see and understand the plight of the people of Srbja and will help them pass through those troubling times, as it seems that the first and the toughest step was made: Peace and Concord has returned.

The Srbjan Ambassador to Hartem has been called for a meeting with his excellency, Euric Sigisvult, the Chancellor of the Kingdom of Varinia to discuss the creation of a program to aid the people of Srbja, by both giving supplies but also creating the foundations of a new state, by lowering corruption and especially human trafficking.

President Filip Vlahovic
SRBJA AND NOVOSAD - The Interim President of the State Union of Srbja and Novosad, Filip Vlahovic, in agreement with the governments of the two constituent republics, dissolved Parliament and called early elections on Tuesday, after the government said it needed a new mandate to pursue the difficult economic changes that they deem essential for the country to recover from the conflict. Election day is set on July 1. “The governments of the Constituent Republics will launch a whole series of reforms for which they are seeking a new mandate, so that they can be sure they are acting according to the will of citizens,†the President of the Republic of Novosad, Dragan Milutinovic, was quoted by Nova Srbja Today as saying. The vote is scheduled for July 1. Some critics have criticized Mr. Milutinovic’s move as a ploy to solidify his power, as his Party of Democratic Action of Novosad (formerly known as Srbjan Democratic Union) already has a comfortable majority in the Parliament of the Republic of Novosad and the State Union's Assembly.

Mr. Milutinovic was once an arch-nationalist and a sworn enemy of the Srbjan strongman Filip Vlahovic until the Banja Luka Peace Accords. Mr. Milutinovic has since cast himself as a pro-unity progressive who favors close relations with Srbja and as a founding father of the State Union of Srbja and Novosad. But he has also come under some criticism, fairly or not, for being thin-skinned and for discouraging dissenting voices, including in the news media. Analysts said the call for early elections, that will take place in both constituent republics, was a canny move that would allow Mr. Milutinovic and Mr Vlahovic to consolidate their power. President Filip Vlahovic replied by stating that such theories are false "The State Union of Srbja and Novosad is founded on the democratic participation of citizens to the political life of the country. It is therefor natural, considering the profound changes undergoing in our nation, that the parliaments of the two entities and therefor the Assembly of the State Union are legitimated trought free and fair elections." President Vlahovic told reporters in a press conference.

THOUSANDS COMMEMORATE SIEGE OF BANJA LUKA

BANJA LUKA (STATE UNION OF SRBJA AND NOVOSAD) -
Thousands of red chairs have been lined up in rows on Banja Luka's main street today – one for every man, woman and child killed during the siege. The chairs hail from a factory in Novosad as confirmed by Banja Luka's Mayor who stated that the factory guaranteed the shipment and the delivery of the chairs free of charge. Banja Luka is the central Nova Srbjan city where people from Srbja, Novosad and Istokgrad have lived side by side for centuries, the city flourishing because of the multicultural mix of inhabitants. However in early May, Novosad Liberation Army forces of the Republic of Novosad sieged Banja Luka with a clear intent to destroy this fabric and eliminate any resemblance of cultural cohabitation. The 1957 siege of Banja Luka, one of the most brutal sieges in modern day history, not only marked the start of this war of aggression, but the return of hostilities in Nova Srbja after only 5 months of truce, in a civil war that went on for 11 years.

For over 30 days, the brave residents of Banja Luka lived without water, electricity, medicine, and with very little food. The once vibrant and beautiful city was under constant shelling by Novosad's forces that bombed the city from the surrounding hills. During the siege, Nova Srbja Today reported on a young, wounded man waiting for care at Banja Luka's Central Hospital. He described the city: "There are trucks of dead, there are legs, arms, heads – as many as you want." This was the gruesome everyday reality of Banja Luka's residents.

Nova Srbja's (now State Union of Srbja and Novosad) challenges did not stop when the war ended and the road to peace has been and continues to be long and hard. The Banja Luka Accords halted the gunfire, but the society remains ethnically divided, devoid of justice for camp, and genocide survivors, and without a strong political compass to guide the country in the coming years. Corruption, hateful political rhetoric, and a weak economy continue to eat away at the progress Srbja and Novosad's citizens have made. The human toll from the war is astounding and devastating: over 300.000 killed and over 1 million displaced. This is a somber day for citizens of Srbja and Novosad and for the Srbjan diaspora across the globe, however, this day challenges us all to remember the souls lost in the 1946-1957 war. Today, Srbjans and Novosadians togheter are remembering all victims of the war and honoring the survivors.

President Filip Vlahovic stated that "As their city was smashed around them, the people of Banja Luka never gave in, never lost hope, never let their spirit be broken. Today, Nova Srbja is looking to a brighter future, as the slow, painful work of recovery continues. Today is a day for the world to remember Banja Luka, to remember the Nova Srbjan Civil War and all those who lost their lives in such a terrible conflict. A day to renew our commitment to stand by the people of Srbja and Novosad, to support it in its path towards prosperity, and to repeat that any unpicking of the Banja Luka Accords will not be tolerated. We strongly encourages the the international community to re-commit its efforts in the campaign against war and violence, so that similar atrocities never occur again." he said.
