MUSCLE FLEXING IN NASJONALFORSAMLING
Leader of the Opposition decries government's "grossly damaging stance" in Great Continental War

The Chancellor seen responding to the Opposition

ØSTFJORD: In a stunning debate in the Nasjonalforsamling chamber, the Chancellor and Madame Knudsen went head to head on a number of issues and gave journalists an impression of a serious rivalry forming between the nation's two most illustrious politicians since the early 20th century. The Leader of the Opposition, the formidable Christina Knudsen, began her round of questioning by launching a series of attacks on the Chancellor and his policies in regards to Great Engellex and its involvement in the Great Continental War. Pointing to reports circulating in some Sorlandet media, Madame Knudsen questioned the government's silence on the alleged abuse of Montlemarian citizens by the Engellex armed forces and the supposed bias that the government had, which threatened to go against the declared neutrality of the Kingdom.

As the Chancellor took to the podium, the mood in the debating chamber was decidedly electric, with members of either bloc openly heckling the leaders of the other, only to be sternly disciplined by Styreformann Hænsbåker. Beginning his speech, the Chancellor remained calm, spoke firmly and addressed each of the points raised by the Leader of the Opposition. Chancellor Edmundsen said that the reports of human rights abuses by Great Engellex were unsubstantiated rumours being spread by "cronies of the Marxist plague present in some areas of the national media" and the Government of Sorlandeten was not going to comment on it. He also rebuked the Leader of the Opposition for being "hypocritical" in its stance on the Great Continental War as, he pointed, his government was following the policies initiated during the dying days of the Fosse government.

Taking the podium once more, Madame Knudsen chided the Chancellor and began a series of attacks on the government's inaction on protecting the ships of the vast merchant navy, which is at the heart of national trade. To this, the Chancellor responded by asking, "What would The Honourable Lady ask us to do... send in warships with each ship?" The proceedings continued in the same adversarial tone for the next half an hour and saw numerous opposition MNFs asking the Chancellor to "show how you rank apart from the Liberal Coalition?"

This pressure being placed upon the Chancellor comes as a general perception has set in the nation's collective mind that Chancellor Edmundsen is seen to be indecisive and lacking strong convictions to alter policies that were set in place by the Fosse government. The Monarchist Alliance, the ruling party, argues that the ever expansive war raging across the world has taken much of the attention of the government and the national agenda of the party would be enacted once a modicum of stability could be restored in the general region. But today's debate has done much to remove the image of an indecisive politically inexperienced from Chancellor Edmundsen and instead the national media was shown the impending political rivalry that is set to form between the two charismatic leaders of the main parliamentary blocs.

Good times over for Scania. Is Suionia to blame?

For many decades, despite the communists taking over in Kadikistan and Batavië, the North was stable, left out of the dynamic power politics which plagued Gallia and Himyar, left as it was to grow and to build itself slowly into something more than a frozen tundra. In this calm, many economies, from Arendaal in the north and Sorlandeten in the south, were able to build themselves and lift their citizens out of poverty and expand the middle class like never before.

The eventual removal of the communists from Batavie ushered in an era of hope never seen before in this peaceful region. This was the start of a highly respected, much publicized trading bloc that was set to transform the dynamics of trade in the north. But now, as it stands, the Northern Council's strongest member has pulled out and its other members are left to cope with serious problems inflicted upon them due to their support of the Suionian led trade war on the Celtic Coalition, which itself now wages war against the Suionians. According to various experts on the economy, it is highly probable that many northern economies directly involved with the seriously misguided trade war will either go into recession or have already gone into it, a fact supported by the slowing economic growth rates across Scania.

If we look at the geopolitical situation, the current conflict between the Celtic Coalition and Suionia is mainly going on due to the animosity that the Scanian nation created in the resurgent nationalist Celtic nations by boycotting their economies and placing stringent embargoes. One can theorize that had Suionia and the NC not placed their embargoes on the Celts, today would have been another peaceful day in Scania. Now facing an onslaught on both sides, Suionia is seen as desperate, having to rely on the Frescanians – long assumed to be the secondary members in the Karlskrona Accord, the alliance must be proving very heavy on them indeed this Fall – to support it in a war of its own making.

And in this situation, desperate for peace the Suionians have become erratic and have reacted strangely, threatening to declare war on Engellex, the main mediator between Suionia and Bantyr, due to their inability to get a final resolution from the Bantyric government. This position is not honourable and only serves to bring shame on the Suionian nation.

But even if, let us hypothesize, peace were to come today, what faces Scania is not a pretty picture. An entire regional economy heading slowly into recession, if not already there, a serious debt crisis facing the remaining members of the Northern Council* and simmering rivalries that will forever alter the political landscape of this once peaceful region. But one must wonder, who is to blame here?

Is it the Celts? With their nationalistic dreams of a greater Celtic homeland stretching across the Lyric Sea. Or is it the Northern Council, that without pausing to think of the greater harm to the region and, quite frankly, to itself followed a policy of outright trade war with the Celts. Or is it Suionia? The nation that led the NC in its crusade and as the tide turned, jumped ship and left the other Scanian economies stranded on a sinking ship.

In the opinion of this writer, it is the moral bankruptcy and the serious irresponsibility demonstrated by the leadership of Suionia. The disaster that is to occur if saner heads do not steady the situation shall solely be the doing of Suionia, which instigated the decline of an entire region.

Arthur Magnussen is a professor of political sciences at the University of Østfjord and a noted columnist in a number of publications. He is currently working on a book detailing the recent history of Scania.

News Update
:!: Government defends Karlskrona Accord oil policy: After facing rising criticism from the opposition on the issue, the Government has taken a strong stance in the Nasjonalforsamling, defending the oil embargo on Frescania and Suionia, in which Sorlandeten has been joined by Kyiv and Talemantros, and saying that the Government viewed it "necessary to take these extreme steps to ensure peace in Scania." Responding to questions posed by the media, the Parliamentary Secretary to the Chancellor said that the Kingdom remained neutral in the conflict but was "taking a strong stance to pressure a lasting peace agreement".

:!: Chancellor Edmundsen visits Etensberg: In his first high profile visit to the city since assuming the Chancellery, Lars Edmundsen arrived today in the economic metropolis to meet with members of the trade community. While speaking to the Chamber of Commerce, Chancellor Edmundsen also informed them of the government's policy of monitoring labour unions and for the unions to limit the number of strikes to a certain number annually, which would be decided and discussed by the Parliament.

:!: Yujin tests long range missiles: The far eastern country of Yujin announced today that it had tested a missile capable of delivering its payload to a wide radius. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement which said that while it was every sovereign state's right to develop an ability to defend itself, the announcement of the missiles and continued developement of longer ranged missiles could potentially start a regional arms build-up.

Christiana Knudsen,
Grand Councillor for Foreign Affairs
Kingdom of Sørlandeten

Miss,
Götarike finds our nations to now be in a state of hostility. Sörlandeten has in effect by its latest ultimatum declared itself an enemy to the people Scandinavian peoples and the Sörlandeten heritage. It has been no secret, that your nation has embarked on a pro-Celtic policy since the beginning of the war, a stance that Götarike has taken as a betrayal from day one. Yet we've chose to accept your nation's neutrality as an acceptable means to ignore your nation's hostility.

Embargoing a nation is not a neutral action. Sörlandeten has officially left the neutral sidelines of this war and entered into a pro-Celtic camp.

Now we will refute your ultimatum.

1. An immediate end at escalation of the conflict currently existing in Scania and retracting threatening statements.

The Kingdom of Götarike has already officially opened up calls for peace. Götarike has never made any threatening case otherwise. In fact our last public statement was the suggested creation of the "North European Summit." As seen in Götiska Dagbladet ( ). The initiators of the war have refused to respond to calls for peace. You are far mistaken if you believe Götarike initiated this war. While foreign policy may have been at odds with the Celtic-bloc, never has it called for war. Never has it argued for expanded war. Here, we believe your bloc to have gone to madness, as our nation has never called for any sort of war. Our only errors was a mistaken Declaration upon Engellex, which was a misunderstanding and retracted upon friendly conversation with the Engellexic government. As such, your first point is deemed as false. We have no obligation to abide to your pro-Celtic demands.

2. An immediate cessation of hostilities in form of a ceasefire agreement and agreement to attend internationally mediated peace talks.

Götarike has already called for a peace summit. Is this not enough? What right does Sörlandeten have to claim our calling for peace as illegitimate? Your nation is currently an embarrassment on the international scene. An embarrassment to the proud Nordic culture and peoples and a shame to our house.

3. An immediate withdrawal of 65% Frescanian military assets from the North Great Sea region.

Your nation now makes the same mistake that the Union of Great Engellex made in the first days of conflict. Only your government did not learn. The Republic of Frescania has every right to be in the North aiding their allies. Karlskrona has only acted in defense. Karlskrona has even yet to make an offensive move, even though it currently holds the military and strategic advantage. It has acted in defense from the attack of Warre and Bantyr. Karlskrona members have come to the defense of our great peoples, and a fellow Nord now wishes to tear us down in favor of the Celtic peoples. Can betrayal speak any louder? Karlskrona will not abide to this demand. Nor will we abide to Sörlandeten demands for a peace, that has already been suggested by our nation. A peace which according to our preliminary talks would be seen as acceptable to governments in both Engellex and Cantigny.

As a result of this regrettably silly ultimatum, the Kingdom of Götarike will refuse.

Additionally, Götarike will issue our own statement. Sörlandeten has 48 hours to drop their embargo, or officially be considered in alliance with the Celts, and subject to unrestricted war. As a result, a state of war will exist between Karlskrona members and Sörlandeten. Neutrality is the official status of not choosing a side. Sörlandeten has officially picked a side in their actions. Our concerns are not in Himyar and with the actions of the Talemantric or the fascists of Kyiv. Our concerns are at home. Sörlandeten is compromising our livelihood and as a result we have been forced to issue our ultimatum.

The Kingdom of Sørlandeten is engaging in petty big power politics with its senseless embargo, that threatens the economic stability and prosperity of independent, neutral nations like the People's Republic of Vangala.

GENERAL STATEMENT

The Kingdom of Sørlandeten responds to the statement issued by the Kingdom of Suionia in the following manner:

We are appalled by the language used in an official statement, a serious breach of diplomatic code of conduct, and are displeased with the allegations that we are not neutral in the current war enveloping Scania. We are also seriously displeased with the open threat of war issued against this Kingdom, a sound example as to why we have had to undertake such a hard-line policy against the Karlskrona Accord, along with our allies in Talemantros and Kyiv, in the interests of regional peace.

However, we must remind the Kingdom of Suionia that the oil embargo was issued as a joint-statement by the three respective states and serve to be the policy of each of those states. The reason for such a hardline stance being taken by Suionia solely against Sørlandeten is due to the fact that Suionia thinks it can bully our proud nation and peoples. We seek to remind them that is not the way to conduct responsible diplomacy.

Yet, we understand the primitive emotionalism of the Suionian nation, and to that respond in the following manner;

The Kingdom shall not back out of the Tripartite Oil Embargo Agreement signed between the Governments of this Kingdom and Talemantros and Kyiv. It shall continue to enforce the provisions it has agreed to in that document. However, as a magnanimous gesture and to demonstrate the full commitment to peace, and neutrality, espoused by our nation we shall impose a unilateral denial of supply upon the High Kingdom of Warre until they agree to peace talks and a return to pre-war boundaries.

But, the Kingdom maintains that the presence of forces from Frescania in this region serve only to escalate the violence and we remain committed to seeing the steady departure of non-Scanian and non-Boreatic nations from the Northern Great Sea.

But let it be known to all nations and peoples who oppose us; from the Celtic nationalists who seek to annexe parts of our northern territories for their empire to the Nordic Imperialists in Scania, this nation possesses every ability to defend itself when faced with adversity. This nation possesses a strength of will and a patriotic spirit that shall dampen the resolve of any aggressor should they be foolish enough to undermine the strength of our nation and its people.

Yours faithfully,
Francesca Ingmarssen

Francesca Ingmarssen,
Secretary to the Grand Councillor for Foreign Affairs
Kingdom of Sørlandeten

Miss,
Götarike finds the fact that our personal message to Miss Knudsen, the Grand Councillor for Foreign Affairs was redirected to her secretary as disrespectful. Furthermore a private message responded to via public channels is furthermore alarming. (As you will note, we reject any notion of such dialogue taking place.) Extending the "embargo" in a lackluster manner to the Kingdom of Warre, if we read your statement correctly, is not enough. Sörlandeten violated her neutral policy, and only attempted to make amends for it after our warning.

This sort of disrespectful attitude and lack of seriousness applied to the situation at hand has only further tipped the scale towards our eventual decision.

To avoid an open state of war between our nations, Sörlandeten must either take one of the follow actions.
  • Open their oil markets and drop the embargo upon Götarike and Frescania.
  • Launch a total embargo of all goods and services against all Celtic nations involved in warfare, including; but not limited to, the Kingdom of Warre and the Republic of Bantyr. However not including the state of Eireann.
  • Allow for the usage of Sörlandeten ports and territory for Götarike's military to launch a formal invasion of the Kingdom of Warre. Sörlandeten's active participation, will also be rewarded via territorial annexation/expansion to your nation in conquered territories.
Failure to abide to at least one of these demands, the choice being up to Sörlandeten, will invoke a war declaration by the next week, Sunday, November 27th.

CHANCELLOR EDMUNDSEN OFFERS TALKS TO GÖTARIKE
Talks offered to quell tensions created after Tripartite Oil Embargo

Earlier today, at the daily press briefing at the Chancellor's Office in Kongensrådet Palass, the Press Secretary informed reporters that the Government of Sørlandeten was involved in a series of initiatives to ensure that the tensions between the Kingdom of Götarike and the Kingdom of Sørlandeten were resolved at the earliest and "in an amicable manner which results in a resolute decision by the two governments." The Chancellor's Press Secretary also said that Chancellor Edmundsen was not averse to Ministerial Level diplomatic meetings to help get the two governments come to a common understanding.

The offer for talks comes as relations between the two states of Götarike and Sørlandeten have dipped after Sørlandet involvement in the Tripartite Oil Embargo, in cooperation with Kyiv and Talemantros. The offer is undoubtedly the Government's way of trying to even out the situation, as it has already attempted to do by expanding the oil embargo, unilaterally, against the High Kingdom of Warre.

The Chancellor is said to be holding meetings with HM The King and the Leader of the Opposition, Christina Knudsen, to discuss the situation and the potential agenda of the proposed talks. Sources within Kongensrådet Palass inform us that the King visited the Government Quarter to discuss the issue in great detail in private with the Chancellor. If the Götarike Government accepts the invitation, it is expected that the Grand Councillor of Foreign Affairs, Jakob Hænsbåker will lead the Sørlandet delegation.

DULWICH, FRIDAY, 25th NOVEMBER 2011

The Right Honourable The Secretary of State has received the Command of her Imperial and Royal Engellexic Majesty The Queen-Empress
to make known the following gracious Statement of her Imperial and Royal Engellexic Majesty
to the Queen, and Lordships of the Kingdom of Suionia.

An Extension of The Queen-Empress' Statement in Council.

TO THE QUEEN, AND LORDSHIPS OF THE KINGDOM OF SUIONIA

I am instructed to EXPRESS on behalf of her Imperial and Royal Engellexic Majesty;

The Foreign Minister of Sorlandeten, has been good enough, with consistent letters to the Northern Department of Great Engellex, to transmit to her Majesty the Queen-Empress the concerns of the Sorlandeten Government.

Filled with grief at the devastations of the Saamiskavian War, the Kingdom of Sorlandeten made an emphatic appeal for peace to the ministers of the belligerent states through the concerted use of trade embargoes; acknowledging the perceived mistake the government of Sorlandeten extended the embargoes to include oil to the Kingdom of Warr.

The Queen-Empress, her Royal and Imperial Majesty, has been following for a considerable time with high respect and sincere gratitude the efforts of Sorlandeten in a spirit of true impartiality to alleviate as far as possible the sufferings of the war in the north, and to hasten the end of hostilities.

The Queen-Empress, and her Ministers, sees in the latest measures of the Sorlandeten Government a fresh proof of their noble and humane feelings, and cherishes a lively desire that for the benefit of Saamiskavia the Ministers of Suionia will meet with the appeals of Sorlandeten and not escalate this war unnecessarily.

The efforts of Sorlandeten to pave the way to an understanding among the peoples of the north will the more be receiving a most sympathetic reception and wholehearted support from her Majesty and Ministers.

While the terms of understanding are to be found acceptable by the respected governments, Great Engellex cannot underline the efforts of Suionia to magnify the deplorable economic conditions prevailing the Republic of Bantyr and urge the Suionian ministers to cease its calls of further embargoes on Bantyr.

Ensuring the most acceptable of conditions for Engellexic allies and partners in this war is the endeavour of Dulwich; and not respecting this task will have implications on peace negotiations.

By the Grace of GOD, of the UNION of GREAT ENGELLEX, CHARLOTTE, the QUEEN-EMPRESS, through the SECRETARY of STATE, Sir ANTHONY PELHAM-HOLLES

EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW: Mme. Christina Knudsen – The Leader of the Opposition
Topics covered

Mme. Knudsen speaking with Jakob Lynghølm

Christina Knudsen is a name most Sørlandet subjects have become very familiar with, not to mention the strong feelings, of either strong disagreement or of passionate approval, evoked by her style that has been described as "direct" and "biting" by numerous analysts and stalwarts within the Liberal Coalition. On the international stage, the name Knudsen carries a demeanour of dignified restraint and intellectual soundness – a reputation established during five years of serving as the Grand Councillor of Foreign Affairs in the embattled Fosse Cabinet.

Further distinction comes in the form of her ascent into the position of Leader of the Opposition, after the narrow defeat of the Liberal Coalition in this October's elections. Now, as she sits more powerful and respected than any other opposition politician in Sørlandeten's long parliamentary history, Madame Knudsen has given an exclusive interview with Morgenen Nyheter, using questions submitted by the people last week.

JAKOB LYNGHØLM: Madame Knudsen, many in Sørlandeten view the Liberals under your leadership as just cosmetically different to the Liberals under the Fosse leadership, a view which has created much distance between the party and the people. Considering the events of the Crown Crisis during 2010 and 2011, how can the Liberals salvage the left spectrum of Sørlandet politics?

CHRISTINA KNUDSEN:
Well, it is my opinion that such claims are false. The vast majority of the Fosserite politicians have been voted out of the Nasjonalforsamling, a revenge of the people for trying to marginalize the much loved institution of monarchy.
Despite my being his foreign minister, I was deadly opposed to placing checks on His Majesty's prerogatives... you know, I can never quite get over the attempts by some on the left to turn our Sørlandeten into a bad copy of Arendaal. Ideas such as constitutional monarchy are alien to our domestic culture. The role the Sovereign plays is definitely one that can never be filled by petty politicians.

And as for us salvaging the Liberal element within our political spectrum... Well, one must remember that the Monarkistiske Party only has 322 seats in the Nasjonalforsamling, we at 307 and the Independents at 21. Yes, the Liberals did lose power but that doesn't mean we have lost national support... people know and understand that the Crown Crisis was initiated by Chancellor Fosse without consulting his party, which he had hoped to shepherd into supporting his agenda. The Liberals are very much a party of the people. If we wanted, though it would be unethical, we could court members of the Independents to align themselves with us and we could easily topple this government and form a government in a majority. But it is my party's collective opinion that the decision of the people... which was to vote for the Monarkistiske Party in majority, must be respected.

And to be honest, the real politics are when one is in opposition. Government is work. Opposition is not.

JAKOB LYNGHØLM: You, Madame, are recognized the world over as one of the most adept minds at international relations and foreign politics. Under your five years at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, a number of diplomatic victories were achieved. Bringing Sørlandeten out of its aloofness in international affairs and becoming a widely respected neutral mediator in a number of issues, to the expansion of ties with the economic superpowers of Greater Sarmatia and Kyiv and the formation of a quickly expanding bilateral relationship with Talemantros. In the last few months of the Fosse government, you negotiated a non-aggression pact with Kadikistan along with a number of other agreements which have been called widely pro-Sørlandet in their application. How do you reflect on the current state of foreign affairs of our nation?

CHRISTINA KNUDSEN:
Its far too soon to see if the current government is handling itself better... but I must say that I am seriously concerned with some of the decisions made by the Foreign Minister over the past few weeks since coming into power. We have come dangerously close to letting go of our neutrality on three separate occasions. The handling of the Great War is also shoddy but to be fair, they did just inherit the situation so I am lenient on that count. However, it is my concern that the current government is outwardly far too antagonistic when it comes to communist and other Marxist regimes, especially so considering the resurgence of that ideology in many theatres of the globe. Further, the extension of the oil embargo, a policy that I am completely against, against Warre really has reversed the progress of the past five years in that relationship.

JAKOB LYNGHØLM: The Chancellor's proposed energy reform calls for the increase of nuclear power plants to meet rising energy needs. The Liberals are opposed to nuclear power, could you elaborate.

CHRISTINA KNUDSEN:
The power of the atom is undoubtedly a great source for energy yet the cost in terms of its waste and the ever-present danger of radiation is enough for us to see that it is simply far too expensive and dangerous in the long run. We advocate increased government spending into alternative energy resources and research into renewable energy sources. These are the times to think green.

JAKOB LYNGHØLM: But according to a few journals, the cost of research into green sources of energy is far greater than nuclear energy, as much as ten times more according to one study.

CHRISTINA KNUDSEN:
Yes, I know which study you're talking about... and it is common knowledge that the think-tank in question is on the payroll of known conservative lobbyists... its no surprise they would say that. I could point to several studies of my own which are in contradiction to the conservative claims.

JAKOB LYNGHØLM: Frequently, the Liberals are portrayed as strong supporters of the armed neutrality approach of the past forty years... Chancellor Edmundsen is a known advocate of scrapping the policy and is in favour of vastly expanding the projection of the armed services. Your thoughts?

CHRISTINA KNUDSEN:
I oppose it. Armed neutrality has served us well for almost forty years and it is our opinion that a military must be for the defence of one's homeland, not for imperialistic conquest.

JAKOB LYNGHØLM: Staying on the subject of defence, Sørlandeten is known to be a , a mere screwdriver's turn away from developing the capability. Though Chancellor Edmundsen has not touched upon the issue, do you think it is possible anytime soon that our nation shall become a nuclear power?

CHRISTINA KNUDSEN:
No, I do not. And especially so under Chancellor Edmundsen... for you see, during the talks between all parties after the elections, it was decided that the Independents would refrain from aligning with the Liberals under a few circumstances and the nuclear issue is one of those conditions... if Chancellor Edmundsen wishes to keep the Independents and the Liberals from aligning he will remain weary of breaking that agreement with the Independents. As I said earlier, it is entirely possible for the Liberals to topple the government... we just need enough support from the Independents to do so, we'd make an easy majority.

Miss,
I will be in attendance for the meeting between Götarike and Sörlandeten. The meeting can begin at your government's earliest convenience. We would like to note that we find it extremely worrisome how easily it would appear that our confidential messages to your nation seem end up in the hands of other nations and as a result certainly put a dreary tone over the beginnings of this conference and certainly impacts our ability to trust your nation.

We hope these talks can be productive regardless.

Celtic nationalists rally turns violent, 65 dead and 187 injured

The City of Ettesevik in Trøndelag has seen today one of the bloodiest days
in recent Sørlandet history, as the Movement for Celtic Identity and Freedom
(MCIF) has called on its supporters to utilize whatever means to force the
secession of the County Palatine of Trøndelag, where much of the Sørlandet
Celtic community is based.

The MCIF rally included many anti-Sørlandet and anti-Norsk speeches, which
reached in apex in hatred when the organisation's leader took the podium.
Referring to the King and the Chancellor, "F•••ing bastard and his lap dog
rapist" numerous times in his twenty minute speech.

The County Council for Security has announced that MCIF supporters have
attacked several police stations, firebombing police vehicles and murdered a
number of detained individuals on ethnic grounds. The County Authorities
estimate a total death toll of almost seventy and around two hundred injured
in the County's capital.

Despite police being called in and the rally disbanded, MCIF supporters have
scattered throughout the city and are engaged in mass looting and destruction
of public property, leaving much of the citizenry fearful for their lives and
trapped in their homes and offices. The situation remains very fragile.

In Østfjord, the central government has reacted with great alarm, with Grand
Councillor of the Interior, Mattias Pettersen, going so far as to say that the
MCIF was "a terrorist organisation aiming to destroy the unity of the nation."
Chancellor Edmundsen was calmer in his opinions, calling upon the County
Authorities to ask for assistance from the Government of Sørlandeten if the
situation seemed to slip out of their control, while condemning the violence.

His Majesty has released a statement in which he expressed his shock at the
violence and the "gross exploitation of democratic rights" by the MCIF. He
called on the County of Trøndelag to resolve the matter at the earliest and to
ensure the security of the citizenry of Essevik.

The Leader of the Opposition, Christina Knudsen, was quick to point that the
MCIF was in no way the universal representative of the domestic Celtic
community and as such, the actions of MCIF supporters should not be equated
with the community.

EDMUNDSEN/KNUDSEN RIVALRY AND THE THREAT
TO OUR DEMOCRACY

An article by Peter K. Tørsholm

It is no secret that Lars Edmundsen and Christina Knudsen are both splendid
politicians, excellent orators and equally capable to handle the responsibilities
of Chancellorship. Both stand at the helm of two impressive power blocs
which have changed the dynamics of politics in our nation for the first time
in centuries. And lastly, yet most superficially, they are both, comparatively,
young and modern in their approach.

And with that long list of similarities can be added their mutual desires for the
top-job – while Edmundsen has it now, it is entirely possible that shrewd Mrs.
Knudsen may steal the job from under his nose in the next elections – and
their equally strong convictions for their respective ideologies.

Already, just a few months into the new Chancellor's term, strain has begun to
show in the relationship between the two most important democratic leaders
of the country – as recently seen with a number of heated debates in the
Nasjonalforsamling. Where Mrs. Knudsen launches into her speech with a
laser-like assault upon the Chancellor and his policies, the Chancellor responds
with equally sharp-witted responses, much to the amusement of their respect-
ive hecklers on either side of the aisles.

While the tit-for-tat exchanges have been civil in the past, the recent sesssion
in Parliament over the oil embargoes on Suionia and Frescania, and later
Warre, saw Mrs. Knudsen and the Chancellor engage in one of their most
heated and intense debates, going so far as to forcing the Lord Speaker to call
for order thirteen times in twenty minutes.

Despite a calm prevailing between the two leaders at the moment, the oil em-
bargo debate revealed to the nation the potential of an explosive rivalry bet-
ween the two, with both leaders keen on keeping their enlarged power blocs
within their control, such a rivalry might be good for the power blocs but it is
questionable as to its effect on the affairs of the nation's foremost legislative
body.

The establishment of a de-facto two party system is a departure from the
established political culture of Sørlandeten, and reduced the number of
opinions in public political discourse from seven to two. This stands to weaken
the Nasjonalforsamling and an inevitable scenario presents itself where hung
parliaments become the norm.

Such a situation, makes the powers of the King stronger and
leaves the Chancellor more indebted to the Sovereign for
supporting his Cabinet than to the representatives
of the people in the Nasjonalforsamling.

ETTESEVIK CARNAGE 201 DEAD, 650 INJURED!
MCIF supporters terrorize County of Trøndelag, as mass looting leaves local authorities helpless

Violence in the city of Ettesevik
The sun rose today on the County of Trøndelag to yet another day of chaos, panic and anarchy. The County-Palatine remains paralysed, its capital left at the mercy of marauding looters, MCIF supporters, as the organization remains vociferous in their venomous dogma, refusing to vacate the Ettesevik City Park and local authorities battling to control the situation. The Count, HRH Prince Olav, has released an official statement which has updated the figures of the casualties, as ethno-nationalist killings continue to take place sporadically in the city and its surrounding neighbourhoods, with 201 dead and 650 injured, including children.

And the situation on the ground, according to our staff reporter, has forced the citizens of Ettesevik to remain confined to their houses and offices for another day, markets and stores have been vandalized across the commercial district of the city, the damage of which has been deemed to have scarred the small economy of the city. Official estimates as to the damage to the commercial enterprises in the city has been deemed in excess of 2 million Krone. As the situation took local residents by surprise, so too have numerous tourists been caught up in the chaos, a total of sixty foreign nationals are present in the city, two of whom have suffered minor injuries. County Authorities indicate that the bulk of the foreign nationals are safe and have been transferred to the neighbouring County of Fjordane.

The Grand Councillor of the Interior has galvanized the Government of Sørlandeten to officially request His Majesty to allow the Central Government to dispatch paramilitary forces to re-exert control over the city. The Grand Councillor has also spoken to journalists saying that the situation requires the deployment of three regiments of the Royal Rangers to take-over the operation from the local police and to control the situation using "whatever means necessary." And late last night, as news of the 200th death made it to Østfjord, His Majesty ordered the immediate imposition of Central Rule across the County of Trøndelag for a period of two weeks, the first such imposition on a County-Palatine since 1598.

Early this morning, paramilitary forces began their deployment into Trøndelag and began securing areas in the outskirts of the city. Resistance so far has been limited to stone throwing by MCIF supporters who have, according to our staff reporter, the appearance of being in a state comparable to that of opium induced hysteria. Despite the operation commencing, officials and the citizens of Essevik remain anxious, the MCIF remains firmly in control of much of downtown Essevik and its rally has continued to grow in size, estimated by one account last night to be almost 200,000 strong.

Sources within the Ministry of Interior have confirmed that the mood within the Government is grim but that Chancellor Edmundsen remained cautious before making statements in the public, to ensure that no retribution against Celts and Celtic-origins peoples takes place.

OUTRAGE ACROSS NATION AGAINST MCIF ACTIONS
Civil society starts campaign to crack down on Celtic-nationalism

The carnage in Ettesevik has sent shockwaves throughout the country, and as
the death count continues to rise, the general public, liberals and conservatives,
alike incensed at the violence being perpetrated in Ettesevik by MCIF members
who are being seen as having taken advantage of the democratic right of pro-
test.

Conservatives, the element most ascendant in the national political scene
currently, have demanded from the Government of Sørlandeten to declare the
group a terrorist organisation, arrest its leaders and ban the group nationwide,
a view supported within the government by the Grand Councillor of Interior,
Mattias Petterssen, who has famously called for the group's leadership to be
tried for terrorism, a charge that carries the death penalty.

Liberals have been more restrained in their rage, with Christina Knudsen, the
Leader of the Opposition, differentiating between the MCIF and ethnically
Celtic peoples. During the previous Liberal government, Mrs. Knudsen was
instrumental in improving the bilateral relationship of Warre and Sørlandeten.
The Leader of the Opposition, however, has supported the King's decision to
deploy heavily armed paramilitary troops into the County of Trøndelag, where
the anarchy is occurring.

News media across the nation has been reporting from the stricken city and
the people have been following the news closely. The online community has
been busy blogging and Twåtting about the carnage in Ettesevik.

In these highly charged, the Government of Warre has remained silent, draw-
ing great criticism from many in Østfjord – and in-fact from across the
country.

to make known the following gracious Statement of her Imperial and Royal Engellexic Majesty
to the Queen, and Lordships of the Kingdom of Sorlandeten.

An Extension of The Queen-Empress' Statement in Council.

TO THE QUEEN, AND LORDSHIPS OF THE KINGDOM OF SORLANDETEN

I am instructed to EXPRESS on behalf of her Imperial and Royal Engellexic Majesty;

Having relayed to his Excellency the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary the substance of my interview with her Majesty the Queen-Empress, on the subject of the Celtic unrest prevailing, I deem it necessary to observe that the Queen-Empress has summoned a formal representation of the President of Bantyr and his Government to confer with her Majesty and Ministers, and to furnish ourselves with such information from hence as may bring the measures of the Celtic nations on this tragic event in to greater detail, more especially with respect to the organisation directing this unrest.

Our attention was called to this by an alarmed observation of her Majesty’s minister in Sorlandeten, whom sought additional provision for the security and wellbeing of our diplomatic missions in your country.

You should be pleased to be aware that the Northern Department will provide the most ample and correct information that could be deduced from the Presidency of Bantyr on all matters concerning the civil unrest.

As far as general observation has enabled us to form a judgement on this crisis, it has afforded me satisfaction to observe the extent to which our confidence has been restored in the political and civil security of the nation.
