DARING LIANGANG ESCAPE AS WAR DAWNS IN YUJIN

An incredible and daring rescue operation was successfully carried out mere hours ago by a classified Task Force comprised of Carentanian and Havenite millitary vessels, codenamed Task Force R. Utilising the offer of amnesty granted by the quixotic Imperials, both embassies successfully evacuated almost all of their staff and over a thousand ethnically-Yu refugees, who were granted full emergency citizenship to aid their escape. Hapless to intervene, the Imperials watched in silent rage untill the savage Emperor revoked his promise and declared open War on both our nations.

Before the ink was even dry on the decleration, before the telegram informing the Central Congress had even finished arriving in Westhaven, a desperate and daring battle ensued in the Harbour of Liangang. The facts are still coming in, but it seems clear that at least some of the Yujin Blockade Fleet defected to the Revolutionary cause and fired on their friends, aiding Task Force R in its extraction of the majority of the refugees and the embassy staff, aswell as all deployed marines, who suffered only minimal casualties, aided on the waterfront by the timely arrival of Hongmenghui partisans.

Speaking live to the nation within minutes of the news of this daring escape reaching Westhaven, Acting Premier Macclesfield called the decleration of war an "inevitable fit of pique" by a "oriental despot, atavistic in nature and mongoloid in intellect", lambasting the Yujin Empire and pledging full support to the Hongmenghui.

"The bold escape by our personnel, their heroic, unselfish aid for a people in need, their stalwart defiance in the face of insurmountable odds, these are the real Heroes of Revolution. This is not the end, nor the beginning of the end, of our involvement with Yujin. It is, however, the end of the beginning."

The Acting Premier went on to announce that the People's Assembly has voted almost unanimously to back a full decleration of War on the Empire of Yujin, with the aim of supporting the Hongmenghui, and defending the People's Republic of Vangala from retributive attacks. "As long as this Emperor and his regime of violent criminals continues to oppress the people of Yujin, there can be no peace in the East."

What this War will mean for the future of the People's Republic, for the future of international socialism, for the future of the Yu people, cannot be now seen. But tomorrow recruiting offices will open nation-wide, and the People's Army and Navy and Air Force will mobilise large batallions of volunteers and reservists. Though a direct intervention to Yujin is likely logistically impossible, the Hongmenghui, despite their casualties and the slaughter that the Imperial Army even now wreaks in the cities of Liangang and Nianxu, can stand easier tonight, knowing that the weight of the Socialist World stands behind them.

The Workers' Republic of Carentania wishes to issue a formal commendation and express its heartfelt gratitude towards the men and women involved in this operation. Havenshire has saved thousands of lives today and we will invite every member of the Liangnang rescue mission to Rijeka, Carentania, to receive formal recognition for their deeds.

PROSPERO PLAN TO PROVIDE INCENTIVES FOR ARMS

Keen to make the most of any opportunity, Acting Premier Macclesfield has announced that, after rapid discussions with the newly-formed Business Council, and in conjunction with aides from the Central Congress, an "incentive" programme will be offered to all workers involved in the manufacture of arms, munitions, and crucial parts for vehicles likely to be sent to aid the Hongmenghui in the War with Yujin.

Like the pioneering "Credits for Aquaculture" programme that saw so much success last winter, this amendment to the Prospero Plan will allow co-operatives to vote on increasing bonus rates to workers within the enterprise for exemplary or above-average production rates or third-party determined works of quality. Whilst the details are largely vague, to allow the individual Co-operatives to set their own targets, the aim will be to create an atmosphere of competition on merit, rather than class or company, where individual factories within millitary-related co-operatives will be encouraged to exceed quotas for the good of the Revolutionary Cause.

"Our War with the Imperials is not a conventional war. Few, if any, of our sons or daughters will be at risk. Our vessels may be threatened on the High Seas by Yu ships, and our agents in Vangala may be threatened with retribution, but our enemy cannot reach across the world and menace our homes. Nonetheless, the threat they pose is very real. We may not fight with steel or lead ourselves, but every shot fired, every saber rattled, every shell exploded, will be a blow against Imperialism, a blow that our labourers will strike as surely as if they had delivered the death strike themselves."

Acting Premier Macclesfield spoke warmly after meeting with the Business Council, and has also promised that other incentive programmes may follow. Certainly, as some may have already noticed, the Public Information Ministry has been busy producing new posters and full colour notices of how we might best fulfill our revolutionary duties.

Acting Premier-for-Foreign Affairs Wilkes has met in Rijeka today with representatives from Parthava and Carentania, and talk has been floated of restoring the now-defunct Revolutionary Defence Treaty. "Having been struck as one, as communists, it is clear that our three nations must consider assaults on our nations not as independent provocations, but as attacks on socialism itself, and, as such, attacks on all of us." stated the Foreign Minister.

The still freshly-born People's Republic of Vangala is also being considered for inclusion, though what shape this final coalition of communist nations will take is unclear. Miroslavl, though a brother in struggle in the fight against fascism, will likely not be included, as their vanguardist views are widely considered misguided at best.

What is clear is that the Empire of Yujin has made a grave mistake in attacking the Red Republics, and will find the wrath of the proletariat awakened more potent than any mythical celestial dragons that may or may not defend their throne.

VOX POPULI: EYE ON CULTURE

This week everyone is talking about the Liangnang Embassy Crisis, and who and what will be in the inevitable movie. Ema Zupan, legendary Carentanian Film Director and winner of Best Director at the Vespers, is set as a clear favourite to direct the movie. CineCoop is already offering to help foot the bill for what will likely be an epic movie, and is keen to work with the authorities in Rijeka to ensure that, like the Crisis itself, the movie is a joint venture between Carentanian and Havenite entertainment industries.

Whilst direction and casting will probably fall to Comrade Zupan's discretion, several havenite actors and actresses have already made clear their desire to appear in this movie, above even previously-tipped epic A Wooden Horse. Whilst A Wooden Horse is set to be a melancholy Civil War epic, the likes of which we have seen several times before, Zupan's untitled Embassy Crisis movie promises to be something exotic and different, ensuring it will be a crowd-pleaser. It hardly needs be said that actors are always looking for the role that will not only be the most challenging to their craft, but also the most interesting for their audience, aswell.

Vox Populi can report that George Armstrong, most recently the heroic Space Adventurer in pulp-schlock hit Captain Cosmos and the Venusian Crown, is angling to play the leading Havenite role in the movie, and has even spoken favourably for long-time partner in the franchise and method actor Cecil Pilchard, who will be aiming to play any Yu roles in the film. Pilchard has worked for years under heavy fantastical makeup, and will likely find the chance to play a more recognisable villain in yellow-face a relief. Aaron Feldman, however, an industry veteran when it comes to villainous roles, has also expressed interest, and has played Fu Manchu-style roles before.

What shape the final movie will take, we shall simply have to wait and see. One thing's for sure- it won't be like anything we've seen before, and will almost certainly be in glorious technicolour.

HEROES WELCOME AS WAR MATERIALS SET SAIL

Scenes of celebration were relayed today of the heroic homecoming of the Havenite, Carentanian and surviving Yu refugees in Rijeka today, as the highest honours of that nation were bestowed upon many of the Havenite embassy staff, and the brave men of the Crimson Marines, Detachment C, who were instrumental in providing crucial support for the evacuation. Radio and even Television recordings were made of the events, and experiments with public Television were carried out across Havenshire's cities, as tens of thousands were able to watch live imagery of the Medal Ceremony.

Amongst those decorated included Private Johnson, singled out as the first to recieve his medal of the Havenshire millitary contigent, for conspicuous acts of bravery and courage in the face of overwhelming enemy fire, dragging civillians to safety despite murderous opposition by the Yu. Heavy though the accolades of the comrade Worker's Republic of Carentania may now lie around the necks of our men and women, still heavier the burden of remembering the horror of the brutality of the Imperialists.

Though a similar ceremony awaits them all in Westhaven, it has been decided that the Carentanian and Yu refugees will be allowed a period of rest after so arduous a journey, and may attend a later, more low-key affair for their accolades, if they so choose. No dishonour is intended, only respect for the weariness of those not trained or prepared to deal with the horrors of war thrust upon them.

For our part, Acting Premier Macclesfield was keen to stress again that the War Against Yujin was a material one, and one that he was confident the Red Republics could win. "Vangala may be yet newborn from the fires of its own liberation war, but alongside the materiel intended for the Yu in the Hongmenghui, we pledge to send valuable material aid to the People's Republic in the Near East aswell. Aid Coop will work to help construct and improve the road networks of Vangala, and allow not only essential war material but the material of industry and commerce to flow more easily through that rugged, wild nation."

Concerns over Havenshire's ability to commit to massive material supply programmes to two underdeveloped nations have been brought into sharp criticism by some, particularly amongst the Business Council. Whilst Parthava and Carentania have also pledged substantial aid, Macclesfield has chided doubters for their lack of imagination and appreciation for the vastness of plenty that an awakened proletariat can bring forth.

"It is true we have often suffered and struggled before, living on half-promises of a socialism to be born tomorrow. But this War will be the catalyst we need, to revitalise ourselves, and remember just what it is we are fighting for. Not socialism in some distant tomorrow- but socialism today, in all the nations that desire it."

In other news, an embarassing Embassy Siege has begun in Westhaven itself, though the embarassment is for the Yujin Empire, rather than ourselves. Having declared himself for the Republic, it seems as if the Embassy's guards have detained their former charge in the basement, and are now using him as a hostage to negiotiate with the Civic Watch blockade which has been thrown up around the Embassy. Unlike our beleaguered citizens, however, no Army threatens this Embassy, and the only thing preventing the Imperials from leaving Havenshire safely is their stubborn insistence on holding on to a man who they insist is a criminal, but whose true loyalty to the people of Yujin cannt now be doubted.

SCIENTISTS ANNOUNCE DEVELOPMENT OF THE GAY-BOMB

A historic moment has dawned across not just the People's Republic, but the entirety of the world and the future of humanity. Having worked in secret for many years, scientists have successfully split the XY Chromosome, tapping the raw power of human sexuality, to create a truly terrifying new weapon.

"Carentania has been working with us in secret for many years now, their peerless and pioneering research into man-fucking having provided us the means to make this crucial and astonishing breakthrough." announced Dr.Assbender, leader of the project, codenamed the Manhavan Project.

As proof of the efficacy of the weapon, two test devices, were constructed and deployed in Vangala, against two advancing Yujiner armies. The results were tremendous, turning over 100,000 Yujiner men gay instantly, and devolving the battlefield into an orgy of homosexuality.

This attack has provoked uproar from the international community, denouncing Havenshire for using Weapons of Mass Homosexuality in so brutal a manner, but the administration in Westhaven remains adamant that it was the right thing to do.

"By making Love, not War, we have proved that not only can Love Bloom in the Battlefield, but demonstrated we have the ultimate power in the galaxy. It is true that some think that, the tighter we increase our grip, the more star systems will slip through our fingers, but the terror of the Gay Bomb will be such that the inevitable triumph of Communism is all but assured."

Designs for Gay artillery shells have already been shared with Vangala and Carentania, who promise to begin their own Homosexual Weapons Programmes immediately.

The Empire of Yujin is expected to issue an unconditional surrender, as soon as they run out of energy from the orgy of sodomy and tribadism sweeping their lands, as Gay Radiation settles into the landscape.

PREMIER ANNOUNCES NEW CABINET IN CENTRAL CONGRESS

Fresh from his full confirmation as Premier by the People's Assembly, Premier Macclesfield has publicly announced what his cabinet will be within the Central Congress, the legislative body within the People's Republic. Having finally and formally buried our beloved former leader with full state honours and secured the backing of a two-thirds majority within the People's Assembly, this was the final act that our new Premier needed to complete in order to be fully recognised as supreme political representative of the Republic, as head of state in name aswell as deed.

Premier Macclesfield began his speech by announcing that Foreign Minister Alan Wilkes would be formally removed from cabinet, and permitted to retire with full honours to his private home in Greathamptonshire. Alan Wilkes is the first major cabinet minister to be officially retired from his post without facing an immediate and summary trial for crimes against the people and the state, and as such there is some speculation about wether he will continue to operate in government, or perhaps accept work on behalf of his local co-operatives.

Replacing him as Foreign Minister is John Key, his former deputy, a known face and voice in international circles and also a member of the Ministry old-guard. He is considered a solid choice, and his appointment is a sign that any previous disagreements or internal fractiousness is being smoothed over and dismissed, in favour of a united, singular Central Congress that crosses all factional divides within the Party.

The Defence Minister remained in place, as did the Finance Minister and the Minister for Transport. Two new faces were added to the cabinet, however, in the form of Angela Burke as Minister for Education and Sylvester Quiet as Minister for Energy. "Sly" Quiet is a particularly interesting choice, as he is renowned in both union and scientific circles for his keen advocacy of energy independence, and a desire to develop promising offsea drilling technology, to extract key gas resources for Havenshire's exclusive use. Angela Burke is the first female Minister to be part of the Central Congress since 1936, and is believed to be a solid choice amongst Teacher's Unions, aswell as Symposium experts who advocate new and exciting techniques for maximising the learning potential of children in Havenshire.

However, though the Premier has been quick to address long-held domestic concerns with his Cabinet shuffle, he has remained quiet on the much larger and more pressing issue of international commitments. The War against Imperialist Yujin has increasingly taken on the dimensions of a national project, as far reaching and as deeply effecting as any mooted Economic Plans or even the Civil War. Nearly half of Havenshire's merchant navy is now engaged, alongside the bulk of the People's Navy, in a long-range "Supply Convoy" route to Vangala and back. Vessels are departing their harbours here in the People's Republic packed to the gunwhales with millitary and industrial equipment, everything from ammunition and tractors to crates of flamethrowers and barrles of fuel. They return several weeks later, packed in return with huge quantities of rice, jute, and an assortment of spices and cured meats, amongst many other things. This "Rice for Ammo" exchange has been criticised as being a "raw deal" for the People's Republic, as the energy expended in manufacturing and transporting industrial and millitary goods is grossly disproportionate to the gain recieved in terms of exotic new foodstuffs.

With the threat of Yujiner raids on shipping ever present, many wonder if the People's Republic can truly engage in such an exhaustive, massive and long-range project for long. Some fear that when the first inevitable casualties of Yujiner aggression are inflicted, the public will for conflict will prove brittle and weak, and support for our comrades in the East will ebb.

Only time will tell if such feeble, pathetic doubts are proven to be the cowardly slander that we fully suspect it to be.

RED SPRING DAY SUCCESS SPARKS NEW INIATITIVES

Yesterday marked the annual celebrations of the Red Spring Revolution which transformed Havenshire, and coincides with International Worker's Day. As is customary, a magnificient parade was held along Central Avenue in Westhaven, displaying the power of Havenshire's Millitary and Labour Corps, with representations from all state service branches, including the People's Army Reserve, the Crimson Marines, the the People's Liberation Army, the People's Air Force, the People's Navy, the Civic Watch, the Coast and Border Guard, the Young Volunteers Organisation and the Young Woman's Volunteer Organisation. Also in attendance were several delegations from foreign socialist nations and socialist parties, including Kyiv, Carentania, Parthava, Vangala and Yujin's Hongmenghui. Sadly absent, however, were representatives from Sikandara, who continue to fight social repression by their reactionary state.

On display for the first time were examples of the new Starling Heavy Transport Helicopter, and the Macclesfield-class Medium Tank, which is set to replace the ageing and obsolete Walker Heavy Tank, which was also present at the May Day parade, possibly for the last time. New, Parthavan developed Missile Launcher vehicles were also displayed, to the excitement of many, who cheered loudly when the futuristic vehicles passed by. Premier Macclesfield has long been famous for being a champion of progress and high technology, and nothing demonstrates this better than his unerring commitment to the development of rocketry for civil and millitary purposes.

"Today we celebrate our independence from more than just monarchical tyranny." Began the Premier in his Annual Address to the People, "We celebrate also our continuing victory against everything that monarchy is opposed to. Progress. Prosperity. Freedom. Equality. Ambition, and, most importantly, the Vision to make Utopia within our grasp. The 21st century begins today! Let the fascists and the monarcho-capitalists have the 20th century if they want it so badly, we shall make our future happen without them."

Over a hundred thousand voices yelled their approval as the Premier concluded his bold speech, promising to deliver cutting edge and radical reforms to health, education, energy, the economy, and science by 1958. "Give me but Five Years, and we can do the work of Fifty!" he roared at the crowd, who roared their adulation back.

With another successful display of Havenite people power now fading into warm memory, the real business of convening the People's Assembly for the Summer period has begun, and new, exciting iniatitives to transform the nation can only be a breath away.

CATHIOPA CONDEMNS FENNIAN IMPERIALISM

The outrageous execution of Havenite citizens accused falsely of spying on the Fennian Union was followed up by yet further reminders that the Fennian Union remains the most reactionary regime in the North, with its recent efforts to reassert oligarchical control over the conquered Himyarite territories, which it claims as a protectorate of its Union. This Colonial Empire in Himyar is not unique by any means, with many Northern, Gallian and Germanian countries all claiming substantial overseas empires across the globe. This "Third World", lagging far behind the Second World of Capitalism and even further beyond the First World of Communism, is a repressive, squalid backwater of humanity, all hope for evolution and the development of class consciousness seemingly ground beneath the jackboot of imperialists like the Fennians.

Yet no longer is this state of affairs tacitly accepted by all. Cathiopa, though far from being a socialist nation, nonetheless has decried the demeaning tyranny of Fennia's Empire in Himyar, and has called for these states native populations to be granted sovereignty. With Fennia shrieking shrilly of defending Europe against all forms of socialism and communism, we can only give our warmest regards to Cathiopa in its struggle, and hope that Fennia does not, as it almost always does, resort to overwhelming and brutal violence to punish its subjugated populations for seeking greater autonomy.

Although the People's Assembly remains ambivalent about providing aid to Cathiopa or dissident groups in Fennian Himyar, a recent vote to increase funding to the People's Navy surface warfare elements can only be viewed as a precaution against the Fen's frequent, wild outbursts of belligerence to the more civilised peoples of the world.

Fennian Unioni
The Fennian Union

The Union government would like to note that contrary to claims made in Havenite state propaganda the persons recently sentenced and executed for charges of high treason and espionage by the Higher Army Tribunal were of Fennian citizenship. Apparently, Havenite propaganda has chosen to ignore this with the probable aim of misdirecting their slave population's attention away from the Macclesfield junta's disastrous communist policies and to fictious offenses carried out against Havenites.

In fact, had there been any Havenite citizens on Fennian soil at all - aside from refugees fleeing the murders and tyranny of the reds - that would've been a gross oversight on behalf of the Union Border Guards.

Finally, we convey the offense of the citizens of the Union Protected Territories in Himyar over the borderline racist characterization of their homeland as a squalid backwater. It serves as firm proof of communist hypocrisy and arrogance that they would engage in such patronizing rhetoric which also ignores the unique historical relationship between the Union itself and the Himyari peoples under its protection.

Mr. Kauko Vannas,

NEW SHIELDARM-CLASS CRUISERS TO BE LAID DOWN

The People's Assembly has agreed to allocate funds to resume the suspended Light Cruiser programme, which ended in 1947 with the construction of the PNS Superb, of the Swiftsure-class. Keen to meet the growing challenges of an increasingly international role undertaken by the People's Navy, particularly in regards to the ongoing Arms-for-Rice Convoy that is ferrying supplies to our ally Vangala, the Assembly voted strongly in favour of the construction of another four light cruisers to augment the Swiftsures currently in operation. Using the Swiftsure hull as a base, the new Shieldarm-class has been commissioned, with the first two likely to be completed by 1955 at the earliest. PNS Shieldarm and PNS Savage will be the first of this new generation of light-cruisers, which will be constructed as their older sisters were at Carnforth and Durham Shipyards.

To support the burden this industry will place on naval industry, the People's Assembly has authorised trade for material and naval hardware to be partly outsourced to Carentania and possibly Parthava, with the aim of making repairs and refitting easier on the new Shieldarms when in foreign ports. This will also further strengthen the exchange sector of the Havenite economy, a commitment that the Premier promised to make as part of his Prospero Iniatitive.

In response to suggestions that this programme is a direct response to Fennian naval programmes, the People's Admiralty has refused to comment.

One thing is for sure, however- Havenshire's industry has never been so busy, never so productive, and never so committed to providing the material needed to wage war against the enemies of the proletariat, wherever they might be.

DNA DUO DEMONSTRATE DARWINIAN DISCOVERY
The successful discovery of the revolutionary "building blocks of life" by two Eiffelandian scientists has been met with great acclaim internationally, with Dr. Welchersohn and Dr. Krampf both recieving many awards from nations across the globe. Their towering achievement, which many scientists claim will "fundamentally alter biological science forever" has not gone unnoticed in Havenshire, and an invitation has been extended to the two great men to visit the People's Republic, and recieve the Star of Clynes for their incredible work in furthering the cause of science for all humanity.

This award is not without some controversy, however, as Havenshire's own Dr.Lyman has been forced to recant his previously-considered groundbreaking work on hereditary traits. The discovery of Deoxyribonucleic Acid proteins has put the final nail the coffin of Dr.Lyman's unpopular Neo-Lamarckian theories, which were untill recently a favourite of the scientific biological community. Although proponents of Lymanism continue to insist that DNA is simply a "bourgeoise fabrication", the Symposium is convinced that a guest presentation of their work by Dr.Welchersohn and Dr.Krampf will put to an end all support for the Lymanist view of inheritance of traits amongst species.

Premier Macclesfield has also issued his own, personal congratulations to the two scientists, and offered them, should they wish it, exclusive access to Havenshire's most cutting-edge biological research facilities, as part of a tour to show what is possible in a Council-Communist state.
"If they can discover so much even when leashed by a capitalist system, think what might be possible in a society where the Scientist is revered as a hero far more than the businessman or bureaucrat."

Wether the two scientists will accept the invitation, or be allowed to by their government, remains to be seen.

BE VIGILANT SAYS NEW HOME GUARD AGENCY

Inspired by the recent founding of an internal, dedicated anti-terrorist security service to combat Mezhism in the Worker's Republic of Carentania, the Ministry of Defence has endorsed a new iniatitive to alleviate the burden of domestic security currently resting with the Central Intelligence Bureau, and make domestic security a community concern, involving the people with the great task of safeguarding the Nation against the threat of terrorism.

"The Home Guard will be a part-time community watch service, with volunteers consisting of those held in good standing in their districts and villages." Stated a spokesperson for the Ministry of Defence. "We invite those with military or police experience and high moral character to apply for the Home Guard, and voluntarily give up some of their time to policing their communities, and discouraging criminal, subversive or terrorist activity."

The Home Guard will not be, it has been stressed, empowered to act in a para-millitary capacity, and are intended purely as an informal intelligence-gathering arm. Though they may carry out Citizen's arrests on those in the act of committing a crime, they are not authorised to carry fire-arms or batons for this purpose, and will be a plains-clothes service, with an optional red insignia-laden Arm-band to signify membership when gathering with other volunteers.

"To those concerned that this seems a strange iniatitive to counter the menace of terrorism, we believe that the CIB does an admirable job at present countering the influence of international infiltration and sabotage by fascist and capitalist powers. Whilst Havenshire does not have a domestic terrorism problem as dangerous as Mezhism, we are nonetheless certain that whatever threat might exist internally will be thoroughly discouraged when it is known that even your next-door neighbour could be Home Guard, keeping an eye out for the enemy." clarified the Spokesperson.

Home Guard Watch Posts will be gradually set up in every District and every Village across Havenshire on a population-density basis, with each Watch consisting of a minimum of 5 to 10 volunteers and a maximum of 100. Complete implementation is expected by mid-1954.

SMALL MEDIA BRINGS IN INTERNATIONAL COMICS
The growing popularity of sequential graphic art strips in book form, or "Comics" has seen the Small Media Co-operative successfully petition for and recieve a special import-license for certain regions within the People's Republic, for the import of Tyrcullan produced art. Of particular note is the "Crimson Torch", a wildly popular series of Comics about a Havenite hero who is granted super-powers by a benevolent alien race to safeguard the rights of the proletariat on earth. Whilst these Comics are cheaply manufactured and mass-produced abroad, their appeal and strong moral message has struck a chord with the youth of Havenshire, and a number of otherwise foreign works will be authorised for distribution in select areas.

Other Comics include non-Havenite heros, but have been carefully screened to ensure that no counter-revolutionary or subversive moral is present. Themes of Drug-taking, Homosexuality, Wanton Sexuality and Perversity are also strictly censored, though thankfully art of this nature is rare, and the "Comic" Company Havok! has taken care to offer media that meets Havenshire's strict cultural guidelines.

Whilst some have complained that Havok! is not a true co-operative, and that these Comics are made under exploitative and oppressive capitalistic working conditions, Havok! is even now in negiotiations with the SMCOOP to move the bulk of its printing and distribution of the "Crimson Torch" comic to Havenshire, and to employ Havenites on co-operative terms.

Wether this new art-form will truly catch on with the youth, or is a passing fad, remains to be seen.

FURORE OVER VANGALAN WAR-CRIMES DRAWS CONTROVERSY

The recent release of material proving that the Yujin Imperial Army is guilty of horrific war-crimes against the people of Vangala has drawn an appalling, if not entirely suprising, furore from western autocratic states such as the Grand Duchy of Potenza and the Fennian Union. In addition to doubting the veracity of these claims, they have sought to cast doubt on the validity of testimony presented by Vangalans, suggesting that, if these massacres even occurred, that they were carried out by the Vangalan Communist government, and not the Yujiner soldiers. This extraordinary implication has sparked a war of words in diplomatic circles, which the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has published a digested tract. Although certain details have been omitted to preserve diplomatic secrecy, it is no secret that Potenza and the Fennian Union, who both have right-wing, ultra-reactionary cliques, are clearly looking for any excuse to attack the legitimacy of the new Vangalan revolutionary government, and to support the actions of the Yujin Empire in its barbaric assault upon this nation.

"It is clear that the Fennian Union will not be happy untill the jack-boots of millitarism have ground not just the Nethian and the Himyarite, but also the Vangalan and Yu people aswell. It is seemingly astonishing that Potenza would join such a cause, but overall unsuprising given the fondness of monarchs for monarchies, even if little love is lost between individual sovereigns." explained a spokesperson for the Ministry in a statement given to the Clarion.

The People's Assembly has also confirmed that the Supply Act will continue, and that this will not interfere with ongoing Havenite and Carentanian operations in Vangala and Yujin. Rumours of Carentanian experimental jet operations in Vangala cannot be confirmed at this time, however the People's Air Force has issued a statement that it is "interested" in closer co-operation with Carentania on this issue, and that it would be happy to collaborate over a tentative Space Programme, with the aim of putting a man in orbit by 1960.

CRUSHING DEFEAT FOR WALKERTON WANDERERS BRINGS REFORM TO SPORTS CO-OP
The gruelling and dispiriting humiliation inflicted upon us by the knockout of the Wanderers in the first Set of the One World Football Series has electrified the sporting scene in the People's Republic, with the Premier himself allegedly keen to see crucial improvements made in the quality and experience of Havenshire's top-line Football Clubs.

"Sport is more than just entertainment, or a form of physical exercise. It is the bloodless, passionate expression of a nation's vitality, of the drive of its citizens and the quality of its health." claimed Premier Macclesfield in a rare address to crowds at Westhaven Stadium.

To this end, funding has been set aside for the development of a number of "Young Citizen's Football Leagues" which will actively mobilise young boys and those on the cusp of manhood to compete with the intensity and discpline of professional football clubs. It is believed that identifying those with talent in the sport at an earlier age, and providing a suitably competitive enviroment for them to excel in, will enable Havenshire to hone professional sportsmen who can represent the nation internationally, and attest the quality of the People's Republic most revolutionary achievement- namely, its Education system, which is arguably one of the world's few truly meritocratic institutions.

The Fennian Union

The Fennian Union obviously condemns any war crimes, though judgement on the veracity of these Vangalan claims is indeed reserved to the near-future. However, we wish to correct Havenite media in that no representatives of the Fennian government have given suggestion that Vangalans themselves would be responsible for these claimed massacres. Instead, such speculation has been brought up by the independent Fennian media, and evidently the distinction is too difficult to grasp for citizens of a country where all are slaves of the sprawling Red machinery.

The Grand Duchy is not attempting to deny war crimes, but are suspicious of the secretive nature of the Vangalan claims. Similarly, we find it peculiar that the Vangala government would grow more hostile when attempts are made to substantiate their claims.

The proactive defence of the People's Republic of Vangala by Havenshire is truly humbling, and demonstrative of the strength of international socialist solidarity. Contrary to the claims of reactionary governments and media outlets, there is considerable evidence of the atrocities committed by the Yujiner Imperial Army, with the Vangalan People's Armed Forces having released numerous photographs of the mass graves unfortunately discovered by our brave fighting men and women.

FIRST VANGALAN TASKFORCE FORMED AS TENSIONS RISE

With Sikandara and the Swicezeman Union adding increasingly belligerent rhetoric in their support for the reactionary Yu State and condemnation of the fledgling Vangalan People's Republic, the Premier has taken the extraordinary step of convening an Emergency session of the People's Assembly, to vote on a truly extraordinary proposal- that a Havenite Task Force be assembled from People's Army and Air Force elements, and dispatched to more directly co-ordinate and aid the Vangalans.

If this Intervention Bill passes the Assembly, this will be the first time in the history of the People's Republic that a millitary force has been dispatched abroad, with the very real possibility of direct conflict with hostile foreign forces. Whilst a state of War already exists with the Yujin Empire, and it is entirely within the government's right to allocate our millitary forces to such a direct role, many are keenly aware that such a move will greatly endanger many volunteers lives, and also risk enflaming tensions that have been raised by the Mezhist Powers.

Whilst the number of civillian and millitary personnel in Vangala already numbers close to 3,000, most of whom are engaged in the difficult but rewarding business of building highways and supplying medical and food aid to the Vangalan people, the Intervention Bill calls for the far more difficult proposition of putting a combined-arms task-force of nearly 5,000 extra millitary personnel on the ground, with the option to provide more if the situation calls for it.

"This is a very tense time for the Nation. The decision before us now, the one that all Assemblymen and women will be required to vote on, is not the decision to put our soldiers in harm's way. That decision was already made by them, in their commitment to a life of service to the people and the state. No, the choice before us is wether we will lend a bucket to a neighbour whose house is on fire, or put out the fire ourselves." stated the Chairman of the Party in a rare radio address.

We do not know what the decision will be, but we are confident that, yay or nay, the Socialist World as a whole will turn on the axis of events. Some might see it as a deadly game of brinkmanship, but to the People's Republic of Vangala, it is no game. War for millions is already a reality. All that remains to be seen is wether we are ready to face that reality yet.

CRISIS IN CANTIGNIA, TRAVEL WARNING ISSUED
The recent death of the Cantignian-Engellexic Monarch, Queen Alice, has sparked a curious and dangerous wave of events in the distant Implarian Continent. Within hours of the Autocrat's death, the Cantignian Chancellor has also been reportedly asassinated. Patchy reports have also been coming in of labour and race riots and instability in the large city New Dulwich, which has neccesitated the deployment of millitary forces.

Whilst the Clarion does not indulge in speculation or rumour-mongering, it is becoming increasingly clear that all is not well down under. The Embassy is reportedly closing in Vesper, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has ordered all government and aid-worker personnel to depart the country within the next 48 hours. A single Destroyer has also reportedly been taken off of guard duties near Vangala to make for Cantignia, to assist in departure. However, the Ministry has also stressed that no provocation is intended, and that these are merely "precautionary measures", taken because of a new code for ensuring diplomatic safety since the crisis in Liangang a few months ago.

It is uncertain wether this instability will lead to anything or is simply a passing tremor that has upset an otherwise very stable, if reactionary, regime. With the Mezhist Powers increasingly making ever bolder threats however, it pays to be careful, and we hope that the Destroyer's trip proves to be a wasted one.

MARINE TASK FORCE DEPARTS WESTHAVEN FOR THE EAST

With the successful passage of the Intervention Act, a substantial millitary force was waved off from Westhaven Harbour today, on its way to the far side of the world to aid brave communist partisans in their struggle against autocracy and Mezhism.

This new phase of direct engagement in the Toyou Conflict also marks the end of the intensity and frenzy of the Supply Phase, with dozens of communities and co-operatives around the nation re-assured that their patriotic contributions have not gone to waste, and that they may return to the normal pace of civillian industry and agriculture, for the time being at anyrate.

"We have struck a great blow in the battle to arm, feed and clothe our less fortunate comrades." thundered the Premier at the waving-off ceremony."The Vangalan Army holds the Emerald River with iron tenacity, our rifles in their hands, our bullets in their chambers, our medicine strengthening them against the ravages of tropical disease, and the fire of international solidarity in their hearts!"

Whilst the size of the force, and its exact destination, are all understandably classified, it is clear that the dispatch of a direct intervention force marks a fundamental change in Havenshire's place not only in the Conflict, but in the world aswell. For the first time since the 19th century, Havenshire is attempting to project itself onto the world stage, once again looking to the East, and the promise of the Orient, in bringing a new, more prosperous future for all.

In addition to the dispatch of millitary personnel, the Aid Co-operative, in conjunction with the International Medical Aid Committee(IMAC) have agreed to focus their efforts and resources to alleviate the worst sufferers of the war in Toyou, in Mao Province in Yujin and along the Emerald River. Whilst this has meant the redistribution of resources away from European and Himyarite aid programmes, both organisations agreed this was absolutely necessary to address the scale of the crisis.

"Whatever we do, it is harrowing to know that countless thousands will likely die. But with your help and support, we can keep that number as small as possible. Anything you can donate, anything at all, will go a long way to helping the most vulnerable in this brutal conflict." explained Dr.Joyce Rivers, head of IMAC.

With nearly a third of all Havenite shipping now committed to the growing calamity in the East, it is clear that the War continues to fundamentally influence and shape every aspect of Havenite life. We can only wish our brave boys(and girls!) the best in their fight on foreign shores.

CANTIGNIAN COVENANT RENEWED AS CRISIS CONCLUDES
The integration of the so-called Scarlet Committee into the "New Covenant" of Cantignia has suprised many observers, including the Potenzans, whose dispatch of a significant battlegroup to Cantignia horrified many in Havenshire, concerned about the spread of Imperialism to the furthest corners of the globe.

However, the renewal of the Covenant, and the promise of an uneasy compromise between forces radical and conservative has laid the groundwork for an interesting and uncertain future for the "friendly confines." Whilst the Scarlet Committee is primarily concerned with feminist and labour issues, it is hoped that they will become a legitimate voice of opposition within the Mormon Monarchy, and perhaps in time help erode the staunch racist laws against the Olansean natives.

For its part, our government remains wisely cautious, and with the Trade Mission still enroute back to Westhaven, the evacuation ship slower than the events which overtook it, it will be some time before the People's Republic seeks neutral commercial exchange with the Continent Down Under.

ECF CHESS TOURNAMENT IN WESTHAVEN TO OPEN DESPITE BOYCOTTS

The European Chess Federation has agreed to continue the Chess Tournament in Westhaven despite mass withdrawals and boycotts of the Tournament by both the Empire of Ivernia and the Swieczeman Union, which has deen a sharp drop-off in attendance from other nations who have quietly followed suit. Although the Tournament in Westhaven will be conducted according to strict ECF rules and a policy of strict sporting neutrality has been endorsed by the Premier himself, nonetheless the reactionary powers were afraid to face the wits and mental might of communist chess-players on their home soil, and an opportunity to promote the game globally has been diminished by their reluctance.

"I am disappointed that I won't get to make my International Debut against the Mezhists, but I'm more than confident that I'll sweep the board of what opposition has turned up." said Sylvia Thorne, the rising chess starlet whose brain and cunning is matched only by her reputed beauty.

The Havenshire Chess League has promised that our amateurs and professionals alike will be able to play in regional and national leagues in the lead up to the tournament, and that the promotion of the noble game will be continue unimpeded.

AID CO-OP DRIVES FOR YUJIN FUND A SUCCESS
With the ongoing War in Yujin taking its toll on all of us, it is nonetheless a welcome suprise that the Aid Co-Op has been more than successful in its drive to secure Victory Bonds and second-hand donations for the people of Yujin. In a spirit of breathtaking solidarity and patriotism by our people, thousands of second-hand items have been donated to the Aid Co-operative, to be shipped to the impoverished and needy Yu people disposessed and left homeless by the devestating civil war against the repressive Imperial regime.

Amongst the items donated is a large quantity of second-hand clothing, cutlery, furniture and many, many blankets. Food donations have been much less forthcoming, but the ongoing official industrial labour drives more than make up for this short-fall with tinned substitute meat goods and plenty of small-arms ammunition and rifles for the great fight.

"The generosity and self-sacrifice of our people moves me almost to tears." said Premier Macclesfield in a heart-felt speech to the Youth Movement Congress. "Your parents, your brothers, your sisters, all of you have made this great drive to victory possible. We have the will, we have the heart, we have the resources. I am confident a Great Victory will be won against the Imperialist powers, and soon."

The Youth Movement itself has seen tens of thousands of children between the ages of 8 and 16 volunteering to help with domestic labour and chores thet the adults are too busy to do, such as removing seed husks from the fields, sweeping the roads, cleaning and maintaining automobiles, picking fruit and vegetables, all whilst keeping fit themselves, with the older boys learning how to field-strip and fire rifles, should a partisan vanguard ever be needed here against the menace of International Imperialism.

Truly Clynes himself would be proud to see the entire nation so fired and mobilised for the Great Struggle, for all know that, distant as the War in Yujin may be, the War for Total Communist Freedom is fought every day in our fields, on our front-door steps, in our mines and our mills, in the hills and at sea.
