Issue #1 - Tuesday, January 7 1954

Arcadia attacked! War declared!

Today, at 9;30 am enemy forces bombed the Valkanian air base at Arcadia destroying 32 airplanes killing 1,632 people ,nearly half of which were civilians, before being forced out by Valkanian forces. The opposing side claims the reason for the attack was Valkany's use of the base to further her chemical weapons program. Valkany has responded by declaring war and has used heavy artillery to level two towns on the enemy-Valkanian border. Valkanian forces are currently advancing on all fronts. A Valkanian official said that the base was being used for Valkany's air defense system, he also said Valkany can use her bases and territory as she sees fit and will not tolerate attacks from rogue nations. The Imperial government by command of His majesty the Emperor Demetrius XIV has enacted martial law and general mobilization. The War Measures act and the AEGIS protocol have been enacted. So far Valkany's regional allies have only shown verbal support for Valkany but some are expected to join the war on Valkany's side by the end of the week.

Issue #5 - Saturday, January 11 1954

Holy Alliance convenes in Dimitrisburg! Multiple terrorist attacks in Zessionsford! Emergency situation and martial law declared!

The Holy Alliance member nations' leaders and officials have gathered in Dimitrisburg for the annual convention of the Holy Alliance. Mass protests by anti-war and anti-imperialist activists from all around the world are taking place. Some gatherings were violently broken up by the Landwehr and Reserve Army after some groups attempted to violently reach the summit hall while setting cars and buildings ablaze killing 8 persons and injuring another 32. The Landwehr and Reserve Army's use of force resulted in the death of 48 rioters and the hospitalization of another 126. 257 Arrests have been made in Crownsplatz Square alone.


In the meantime multiple bomb explosions have taken place in Zessionsford as well as other capitals of the Holy Alliance nations. In response the Valkanian authorities have declared an emergency situation and martial law, while a curfew has been instituted in Dimitrisburg to protect the HA summit's members from harm. Other HA governments have taken similar measures.

Issue #6 - Sunday, January 12 2014

Extremists suspected to be behind the attacks! Valkany prepares for possible revolt! HA summit continues!

An Imperial Valkanian Police spokesperson said this morning that the evidence collected from the sites of the terrorist attacks in Zessionsford points towards terrorists from extremist anti-crown groups though Government and Law Enforcement officials have refused to specify group they're referring to as the investigation is still proceeding. In the meantime Valkany has fortified her borders and cities in preparation of a possible revolt. In Dimitrisburg the Holy Alliance summit continues normally but under heavy security.

Issue #7 - Monday, January 13 2014

Bomb explodes in government summit! Iveria and Lisse join HA summit as observer states! Heavy rioting in Zessionsford!

Today at 10:30 AM a bomb exploded at the Emergency Government Summit in the Prime Minister's Office at 46 Duchess' Irene's Street. The bomb severely wounded many government officials and killed the minister of Migration while the media have contradicting information about the Emperor's fate with some saying he has died and others saying he only suffered minor injuries! At the same time heavy rioting has broken out in the streets with many paramilitary leftists factions spreading panic in Zessionsford's city center. The Emergency Military Administrative Committee has deployed Landwehr and Reserve Army units to stabilize the situation. The government quarter has been fortified while there are reports of tactical military forces mobilizing and heading for Zessionsford and Dimitrisburg. Many rioters have begun setting wealthy quarters of the city ablaze while there is severe fighting between government and rebel forces! Meanwhile in Dimitrisburg martial law is still in effect and government forces there are preparing for a possible onslaught!

At the same time in a much more stable and peaceful Dimitrisburg Iveria and Lisse have accepted Holy Alliance Observer State status and sent representatives the HA summit.

Issue #8 - Tuesday, January 14 2014

Valkany announces her support for Portusgalia's king in exile! Revolt in Zessionsford crushed! Minister of Migration's funeral to take place on the 17th of January!

Valkany has announced her support for King D. Duero's claim to the Portusgalian throne while also announcing that his father's funeral will take place in Dimitrisburg under government expense.
At the same time the revolt in Zessionsford has been crashed by military forces. The casualties from both sides are astounding with the leftist rebels losing 12,000 troops, the nationalist paramilitary forces suffering 8,000 deaths and the government forces losing 800 troops with civilian deaths estimated to have reached 2,000. The rebel leaders from both nationalist and leftist forces have been arrested and are currently on trial.
With immigrants from third world nations having played a major part in the revolt the government and begun large deportations and has passed the migration act. More on the migration act at tomorrow's edition. The minister of migration who died from the bomb explosion in the government quarter will be buried with state honors on the 17th of January. It is also astonishing that those who triggered and placed the bomb where the representative of the immigrant association for equality and a PM from the Anarchocommunist Front! Both have been arrested and are facing trial on charges of high treason!

Rebel leaders hang! Valkany campaigns for Portusgalian monarchical restoration! HA supports D. Duero's Claim to Portusgalian throne!

Today at 12:00 PM the rebel leaders where hanged in Dikaiosplatz square outside the Supreme Court for high treason and crimes against the state. There was a huge public rally in support of the execution. With the period of unrest officially considered to have ended Martial Law and other emergency measures have been lifted.

I think both sides agree that a conflict is not preferable but both think the other side is preparing for war. Too much is at stake for either nation to back down.

Issue #10 - Thursday, January 16 1954

Funeral of the minister of migration! Remembrance ceremony for the dead of the January Crisis! Monument to the dead of the crisis! Tensions between Valkany and Portusgalia rise while other European Nations call for peace!

Today at 2:00 PM the minister of migration was buried at the 1st Imperial Graveyard at Zessionsford's city center after an official remembrance ceremony. There was also a remembrance ceremony for the dead of the January Crisis in Krownsplatz Square while a new monument for the them has also been announced. The monument is to all of dead regardless of the side they where on in order to promote unity among the Valkanian people.

In the meantime tensions between Valkany and Portusgalia seem to be rising with both sides ready to recall their ambassadors. Other European nations are calling for a peaceful resolution but both sides seem too scared to back down. The HA also called for a peaceful end to the crisis.

The Friendly Confines take serious issue with the ill-begotten notion, in what is in all likelihood a state propaganda piece, that suggests the inevitability of conflict between its Empire and the Empire of Portusgalia. The Empire of Valkany, clear instigators in this affair, have made no serious effort to consider the diplomatic implications of its words and actions as the very peace of mainland Europe is undermined on behalf of two Royal Families with little to prove.

There is nothing at stake that cannot be discussed diplomatically on the world stage, or solved democratically within Portusgalia. In that same vein, the notion that Valkany has any significant "stake" in all of this that could possibly mean violence is downright ridiculous and wildly offensive. Valkany must seek diplomatic communication, and it must do so now before the world vividly sees how they were dragged back down in to unnecessary war by Imperial Valkany's ambition.

The Grand Covenant has not and will never sign any treaty that restricts our God given right to individually, verbally challenge rogue states that threaten peace in Europe. Our deserved treaty signed late last year in Riseborough, ending two years of occupation by an Empire much greater and wise than Valkany, bars this nation from associating with or joining entangling military alliances that serve nothing more than to strengthen dictatorships and the thugs who protect them.

We repeat our call, nay plead, beg, and implore that Valkany searches for peace through diplomacy in resolving any perceived affront made against them by Portusgalia. A conference, a phone call, a series of telegrams - we demand that Valkany perform the bare minimum that is expected of civilized nations who put the utmost value on human life. Denying this simple appeal for reason would show the Empire's true face, one we have not seen nor want to; we strongly advise that the Peoples & Patriots of Valkany contemplate the grave destination that greets them at the end of a jingoistic warpath.
