Sinhai, way to bail on us all man. some of us desperately need the update

No man, no none of you do. I waited weeks+ to get on the map but was still RPing, if the people around your soon to exist map spot or claimed map spot or whatever acknowledge it in RP, then you're there even until the map update is done. Sinhai did kind of poof, but you have no reason to complain about it, each and every one of you has poofed before because RL has gotten the better of you or made you too busy for NSEurope.

All I can say is that if we don't hear from Xyrael in the next week or two it might be wise to consider moving on without him. Let's be honest, it's been a month without an update, and that is generally the longest we like to go without an update. If we hold up players who are on the map to post in the absence thread, Xyrael should be put to that as well. Yet he has been logging on the forum, his last time was on the 26th. So there isn't really an excuse as to not have received some kind of word.

Other mapmakers may have taken their sweet ass time to put out maps (myself included), but at least we said something as to why the map was late, or at the very least we communicated with the forum when real life was more important at the time...

...but as all mapmakers can do, an update that is really nice generally grants forgiveness.

I am glad that our two former mapmakers are so heartily concerned over the state of the community, this has obviously been very heartfelt.

I'm glad you share our heartfelt concern for the better health of this community and I will nominate you to take on the torch as the next mapmaker.

I've told people from the start the guy's a mental malingerer, a dead end bum who probably feigns some emo stuff to escape his already very limited responsibilities. Someone who's been on the forum little over a week ago could've dropped a line why he's gone. He didn't so to me that means he just doesn't give a fuck about anything we do. But this all adds up nicely to his whole mapping style (says hes skilled at photoshop and mapping yet doesn't know how to make a grid...) which is also a big fat fuck you to the community.

Normally I'd agree with you, Warr. However:

1. The longer we go without an update, the greater the chance that someone's claim will be overlooked or a spot 'double-booked';

2. With the rumoured Jurchen alterations, there is no guarantee that my spot will even be there come the next update!

The fact is, until my claim is added to the map, I'm having to be careful what I RP. Because if I mention my island of Kitajima/Kitaschima (so named because it is north of Oikawa), only to find that this island has been removed to make way for an expanded Jurchen...well then I'm going to have some trouble explaining this away.

Also...I'm going on holiday in two weeks time. Now when I first joined NSE back in 2004, I submitted a map claim and started RPing. Then, some weeks later I went on holiday, posting my absence in the relevant thread. And guess what happened whilst I was away? The long-awaited update came out and I wasn't included! Someone else had claimed the spot I wanted in my absence and because I wasn't around to point this out, they got the spot and all those weeks of RP went up in smoke.

This is why we need regular updates...because they help to prevent things like this from happening!!

Walstadt, if you claimed it before the update, the mapmaker is pretty much obligated to give you it, even if it's slightly relocated, based on the fact he's changing your spot to increase the pixels of another player. And while you're right on being overlooked, if you're watching the place [to make sure your spot isn't claimed and make sure the map maker notices your post] it shouldn't be an issue. Neither should it be an issue regardless, if you've RPed more you'll get the spot over the other player, and the mapmaker should review the pages.

I cast my vote against Khalistan being considered for mapmaker. His ties with certain members of the EDF are too close for him not to be used as a tool for people those members don't like, or see fit to do them 'favors' by magically giving them more island pixels or some nonsense without them asking and when they already are fairly sizable as is.

If we replace Sinhai [and I am firmly in the belief that you guys should lay off for another week or two, a month without a map update is not that problematic, tbh], then it should be Coro. Definitely not Dan, because while he may be able to post an updated map often, I feel [no, almost know] that he'd use it as a tool of power over other members, and he'd not allow people to reshape their map spots or change claims, even if it helps their RP or helps inspire their RP.

You don't know me so you have any idea what I would do....and if there was any adding to mapspot sizes, it was based on someone elses map that was already being considered.

This is an instance where I must respectfully disagree with Warr. Khalistan is not a corrupt politician, and he's contributed greatly to the new map when we were still bickering over that, so I must label your objections as paranoia with a hint of IC/OOC mixing. I'm sure its unintentional, but that's what I see. Settle down there my firey Texan friend.

I feel Khalistan would be a good choice for mapmaker. I wouldn't mind Danz either. If coro really wants to do it he can, though I believe he has expressed unwillingness to do so. Personally I feel this whole stink over Sinhai is greatly exaggerated and blown completely out of proportion, in large part because a certain portion of the community absolutely refuses to acknowledge his new staff position (amongst others like NeoBrit). However, I admit his disappearance is growing to unacceptable lengths of time, and if the majority of the community want a new mapmaker, they should get one.

Now excuse me, I need to go back to my own shenanigans.

This is all very well in theory, but in practice things don't always work out as they should...particularly where the map is concerned.

If I notice someone hasn't RP'd long enough for me to notice (roughly 2-3 weeks) and have looked into it and they haven't posted in the inactivity thread, they're added to a Replacement List.

If you're in a highly desirable area with many players wanting to replace you, they might request to claim your spot before you get around to posting some RP to be removed from the list. This means no 2 week wait period. You could be replaced in hours. Sucks to be you, next time post in inactivity.

Straight from the horse's mouth- this is what people who go inactive without warning can expect from Sinhai the Mapmaker.

Now I have nothing against Sinhai; in fact I don't really care who updates the map...so long as it is updated. So if Sinhai is busy (as we all are, from time to time, sometimes quite unexpectedly), then let someone else handle the updates, at least until he returns. That's not unreasonable.

People aren't asking for a 'temporary map maker to take over', but rather a full replacement.

And Khali, you added to Anglyn's map spot quite considerably in your map proposals before. I have nothing against you, but your friendship with him makes me feel at odds with you being map maker, solely because you've made his map spot bigger before and he already does quite a bit of nonsensical Britaincopying RP.

@Joe, I said it because 'IC/OOC' do mix all the time, if you like someone more OOCly than another who could give you a similar IC situation, you're likely to jump to the one who you like more, and favoritism stems from this all. I'm not paranoid, just stating my preferences.

Anyone know the font that Sinhai uses for nation names?

Not going to lie, Danz's map was a lot more impressive than Sinhai's, although the cynical part of me wonders whether it was deliberately flashy in an attempt to win over the community and subsequent maps will just be mediocre :p However, we can wait a bit more before throwing Sinhai overboard and electing Danz or whoever as captain (maybe even have a mapmaking team!)
