SYLVANIA MOBILIZES; INFRASTRUCTURE AT FOREFRONT OF GOVERNMENT POLICY.
With the Year of the Sylvanian Republic nearing the halfway point, a massive public works program aimed at vastly increasing the capabilities of Sylvania's infrastructure that was introduced earlier this year has finally become a reality as construction contractors and working men are put to work to begin the construction of the Parkways Project. The Parkways Project will create a network of highways that run east to west and north to south along with massive channel spanning bridges that will make traveling between Sylvania's major islands easier for all. With the economy booming and expanding at speeds never before seen, the expansion only makes sense and with the increase in jobs the economy can only expand more as the necessary expansion in national infrastructure is made. Along with the Parkways Project is the Cascadian Plan, a plan that would in a sense create a better connected border between the the two nations so that trade can flow more freely up and down the west coast of Northern Occidentia. Construction on the parkways and border connections alone are projected to employ upwards of up to and perhaps over one million men as funds are released for the projects to construction companies; the Director of the Interior Department had this to say about the affect of the construction:
"Construction is one of the best ways to create a boost in the economy and with the Sylvanian economy already roaring, this boost can only keep the good times here for years to come. The Parkways Project has been a long time coming and has been in development since the beginning of President Rygaard's term, it has been his dream to create a faster moving Sylvania along with his dreams of a stronger more independent nation. Since the announcement of the project last year, many concerned citizens have worried about the affect this will have on Sylvania's lush and beautiful landscape; I can assure these concerned citizens that the Parkways Project is designed with nature in mind and will easily meld with the many vales, plains, mountains, rolling hills and forests that the parkways will traverse." - Bob Lemat, Director of the Interior Department
Across Sylvania city governments, the Federal government and transportation companies are coming together to create a new smaller Sylvanian nation, while the construction of parkways and multi-mile bridges begin, the hub of Trans-Occidental's new Hub and Spoke system is nearing completion. With eight total runways, the Baldwin-Whitehall Intercontinental Airport, funded by the cities of Baldwin and Whitehall and partially funded by Trans-Occidental; who will be the airport's major tenant, is nearing completion. The Intercontinental Airport will be able to connect Sylvania to the world and the world to Sylvania. When a passenger reaches this 'hub' they will be able to reach every destination served by air in Sylvania, along with many soon to come international routes. Hot on the heels of the completion of this 'hub' airport will be a second hub slated for construction in West Sylvania's largest city; Presque. City Officials from Presque have been looking over Balwin-Whitehall Intercontinental's plans and will be proposing a similar design be created in Presque; the city is already in talks with Trans-Occidental. With both of these airports in operation, Sylvania will be truly be connected, land, sea and air to both the east and west, Thuamantic and Implarian.
