KKP stage attack on Phroum
As the battle for Na Treng continues, the KKP launches a new offensive on Phroum

Na Treng / Phroum -- Our nation once again faces a new atrocity. While the brutal battle for Na Treng continues, the third largest city of the Northern region and largest city of the Kom Hu province, Phroum is under attack. Earlier this morning governmental sources have confirmed that the KKP is now launching a second front against the relatively small city, which counts about 80,000 civilians. That same source also stated that the KKP used the same tactics as in Na Treng, first softening up governmental and military institutions and positions by conducting coordinated bombing strikes across the city and then launching a ground offensive. The communist forces now attacking Phroum are however much smaller in numbers then their comrades fighting in and around Na Treng, estimations go from 800 to 2,000. It is unknown exactly how many people died already, but it is feared that the casualties will be high.

Guarding the city is a 2,000 souls counting military garrison under the command of Colonel Phulan Teamihn, roughly 500 policemen and a chapter of the Royalist Front which has just under 100 members. We have not yet been able to get in contact with the authorities in Phroum, but it is said that unlike in the communist siege of Na Treng, the KKP does not outnumber the royalist forces nor does it have the public support. The claim that the KKP has no major public support in Phroum is supported by the fact that the communist terrorists had preformed some very bloody attacks in the city the last months, during and after which many innocent civilians got killed. During earlier reports we have also stated that the majority of the citizens in Phroum are pro-government because of the many efforts to improve life, which naturally results in anti-KKP sentiments since they always attempt to destroy what the government has rebuild. Another, less important, fact that supports this theory is the strong influence of the dangerous anarchist ideals upon the city. Unlike in the rest of the country where anarchism has very limited or no influence the illegal anarcho-syndicalist union of Phroum is estimated to represent over 20% of the workers, with many more sympathizers. While it is unlikely that these illegal unionists will fight alongside the brave warriors of His Leadership the King, they will most certainly not welcome the communists.

At this time we have not received much more information but will continue to keep you updated.

The People's Republic of Vangala continues to be gravely insulted by the continued baseless accusations from the Kingdom of Ratomkira and rejects all claims that it is actively supporting the insurgency. Vangala continues to strive peace and stability in the region.

Military defeats KKP in Phroum
Communist forces on the retreat after their offensive on Phroum failed

Phroum -- At last some good news from the ongoing battles in the North. The KKP units that only two days ago attacked the small city of Phroum have been forced back into the jungle under heavy bombardment. The news was made public several minutes ago by the commander of the Phroum city garrison, Colonel Phulan Teamihn. The victorious Colonel praised his brave soldiers, but also the police forces, paramedics, firemen and Royalist militias who helped protect and maintain the city. He stated that "the solidarity, compassion and determination displayed by the majority of the 'Phroumese' was truly an inspiration for us all...". Colonel Teamihn continued by saying that the KKP has been dealt a have blow and is still suffering fatalities because of the failed siege, "Together with the additional air support we are continuing our bombardment upon the retreating insurgents.". During the almost three days lasting siege the KKP had apparently never managed to occupy more of the city's area then a few suburban blocks. In a joint statement the government and His Leadership the King have commended the people of Phroum for their valiant resistance.

Meanwhile our forces are still fighting the communists in and around Na Treng. During the last days of this battle, which has been called a humanitarian and military catastrophe by many, the army has lost some of the ground that it had retaken in the beginning of the campaign. The areas lost where in the western sector of the city. Low morale, KKP reinforcements and shortages are too blame says Minister of Defence and War Pharun Sreayoman. When asked if the government is doubting general Makoi, the man in charge of the Na Treng front, minister Sreayoman stated that the government and military high command remain in full support of the general and trust in his ability to win. For the first time the government has also released the current casualty list of the insurgency since 2010, know that these listings do not include the correct numbers from the siege of Phroum since those are not yet avaiable.

Official Military Fatalities in Ratomkira since 2010:
Na Treng
  • Royal Army: 6,987 KIA / 8,321 WIA / 2,300 MIA
  • Royal Air Force: 78 KIA / 42 WIA / 134 MIA
  • Royal Navy: 2 KIA / 3 WIA
Phroum
  • Royal Army: 274 KIA / 300+ WIA / -10 MIA
  • Royal Air Force: 6 KIA / 6+ WIA / 1 MIA
Ratomkira (Phroum, Na Treng excluded)
  • Royal Army: 68 KIA / 72 WIA / MIA 1,689
  • Royal Air Force: 12 KIA / 20 WIA / 368 MIA
  • Royal Navy: 3 KIA / 0 WIA / 354 MIA

Coup d'état
Military attempting to take over the nation

Phroum -- Fellow citizens of Ratomkira, we interrupt your daily business to bring you this special report. A great tragedy has stuck our nation as we have just received word that the military is staging a coup in order to overthrow the democratically elected government and His Leadership, King Pheakdei Srieng III. While the situation is very chaotic we do know that Marshall Drith Vannhere is leading the unexpected uprising and that he enjoys the support of most of the armed forces. A Daily Truth reported stated that the army has surrounded the Royal Palace less then 10 minutes ago and that first clashes between Royalists and Militarists have already broken out on the streets of the capital. Armed Royalist Front militias have been seen taking to the streets shouting pro-governmental and monarchist slogans Other reports indicate that the same thing is happening all around the country, especially the major cities. The exact whereabouts of His Leadership or his condition is still unknown, but we are hoping that he got out of the Royal palace before the encirclement was complete.

The exact reasons for this treason remains speculation at this time as no official statement has been released by the leaders of this coup. It is also unclear what will be the fate of the Daily Truth as the sound of gunfire is getting closer and closer to us here in the Siem Khun media centre headquarters, nor do we know how much longer we will be able to broadcast. All we can hope for at this moment is that our forces and militias will prevent our beloved country from falling even deeper. People of Ratomkira, today we must....

*About ten seconds of static after which a slightly modified version of the national anthem starts playing for about a minute*

Official Communique from the Temporarily Military Government of Ratomkira

People of Ratomkira, fellow citizens of this once great country.

It is not with great joy, but with much determination that we address you on this day to announce the end of the corrupt government that has made our country weaker then ever. I am Drith Vannhere, Marshal of the Ratomkiran Royal Army, on my side stand Grand Admiral Vireak Thibalin, Marshal of Aviation Makara Phalasat and most of our nation's high ranking officers, all true patriots. Our soldiers who have given so much for this nation are on our side as they have always fought for Ratomkira and not the corrupt government which has been allowed to represent it. We want you to know that the steps that we have taken today are necessary and can never be taken back, we will push this through until the end.

Let it be clear that this temporary take-over will not stand in the way of the future and will in fact create a better one for us all. We promise you that we will not replace one dictatorship for another, free elections will be held as soon as possible. These elections will unlike in the last few decades truly be free as all previously banned political parties who have not engaged in the armed struggle will be able to partake in the electoral process. Political parties with armed wings will also be given a chance to lay down their weapons and choose the path of diplomacy. While we will still make a hard fist against terrorism of any kind we understand that many have been literally driven into the hands of the various insurgent groups or ideas and are now offering them a way out. Sadly I can not yet tell you when exactly the elections will take place, but I however urge both the people of Ratomkira and the international community to respect and understand our timetable, which we will announce soon, concerning this.

As the new temporary head of state I have also ordered an immediate ceasefire between our national forces and the various insurgent groups, most prominently the Kangtoap Krawham Padevat (KKP). We wish to put an end to the ever growing violence that has paralysed our nation of all fields and try the diplomatic way. First talks with the KKP have already been concluded and it has been decided that the ceasefire will take in effect on 12.00 PM tonight. All parties will hold their ground and await the peace process. May these be the first steps to a strong united country.

To take away any doubt, we are not removing King Pheakdei Srieng III. As democrats we will await the elections and allow the people to decide if they want the King to remain on his throne or not. The King will also be allowed free passage but will however for security reasons be strictly supervised and for the time being stripped from his powers as head of state. The constructions of the decadent 'Grand Palace', the latest prestige project of the King, will be stopped so that the people who where forced out of their homes can return and the money can be used for important matters. You may have heard that our armed forces have surrounded several key positions in the many cities of this country, however rest assure that these measures are taken purely to contain the threat posed by the palace guards and other troops or militias who are still showing hostility. We do not wish to continue the bloodshed which has our country in its grip for so long and thus urge all so called 'Royalists' to lay down your weapons and start negotiating with the military immediately.

Towards the international community and most importantly our allies we wish to make it clear that this not as a setback or even a treat but should rather be seen as an evolution of your ally. Out of this we will create a stronger Ratomkira and a worthy ally, economically, militarily and culturally. We hope to continue being a loyal member of the League of Free States and a friend of the Greater Oikawan Empire. It is my honour to invite all nations who desire clarifications about the situation to Siem Khun, with the members of the LFS naturally receiving a first place should they want. Towards the corporate world we wish to state that your assets in Ratomkira will not be touched or even effected by this. All deals with the previous government will remain in effect. If anything the situation in our country is improving for all businesses.

Long live democracy!
Long live Ratomkira!

Sincerely yours,
Drith Vannhere

Official statement from the new director of the Daily Truth

First of all welcome to the new and improved Daily Truth. Since yesterday the former heads of the country's biggest news distributor and its Royalist propagandists have been replaced by a dynamic team of capable objective men and women. For the first time in years the people of Ratomkira will be able to receive real and valuable information about their country and the outside world. As the new director of the Daily Truth I would like to thank the leaders and members of the uprising for making all this reality. Furthermore the people of this nation have my word that the news will from now on be real, sceptical, integral and simply better. Enjoy.

Sincerely yours,
Pich Sen
Chief Director of the Daily Truth

Thousands celebrate the government's downfall and ceasefire
The military takeover has become a success as the people are filling the streets to show their support

Siem Khun -- Just a few hours ago the streets of our capital, Siem Khun, started to fill up as thousands of people wished to express their support for the uprising. Siem Khun is since early this morning one of the many cities entirely under military control, outside of a few small pockets of mostly Royalist resistance. When we asked several of the people on the streets what their reason was for being there they most commonly replied that the ceasefire with the insurgents and the fall of the old government where the two main motivational points. It is clear that the people are sick and tired of just under 60 years internal fighting and bloodshed as well as the corruption of our former government. The crowd is estimated to go well over 20,000 heads and it has been reported that similar sporadic pro-military manifestations are taking place across the country.

Sadly it isn't all good news. We have received confirmation that the Pomnichin province, in the south-east, remains firmly in the hands of Royalist Forces. From the capital of the Pomnichin province and forth largest city of Ratomkira, Camsing, Royalist Forces have declared that they will not accept the removal of the 'democratically elected' government and demand that the King's powers be restored immediately. These Royalist forces consist mostly out of palace guards, Royalist Front militias and certain elements of the military and law enforcement who chose to side with the old government. It is said that many royalist forces from all over the country are attempting to enter the Pomnichin province, where the royalists will most likely make their last stand. In a statement the Prime Minister of the old government, Khun Kein said that it is his intention to create a government-in-exile, most likely in the Oikawan Empire. The former Prime Minister continued to say that they have not lost the battle yet and are "disgusted and shocked" by the military takeover. The military has since yesterday began sealing of the province, but as the province shares a large border with Oikawa it is likely that the royalists will find their way into their last stronghold regardless. The military government claims that they are doing everything they can to resolve the situation peacefully.

The ceasefire with the KKP and KSF has been a success. Following the agreement of the new military government with the communists, both forces ceased hostilities at exactly 12.00 PM last night. This is the first time in over ten years that there has been a ceasefire between the KKP and the armed forces. Na Treng remains divided with the army controlling roughly 30% of the city and the joint forces of the KKP and KSF controlling the rest, but for the first time in weeks the battle, which has cost us thousands of lives, has been halted. General Jetsu Makoi, commander of the Na Treng front, was one of the first high ranking officers to support the uprising and thus was a key figure in making the peace process possible. In the rest of the country all military operations against the KKP and KSF have ceased, Ratomkirans on both sides anxiously awaiting the peace talks. So far only the Front for the Liberation of Greater Lanxang (FLGL) declared that it will continue the armed struggle against Ratomkira and Oikawa.

For the time being the majority of the international community has refrained from commenting on the matter. So far only the nations of Anbat, Carentania, Marquette and Životinje have had an outspoken opinion on the matter. In a brief statement the Marquette government, a major ally of the old government, has stated that they will cease all aid for Ratomkira. Meanwhile the nations of Anbat has denounced the actions taken by the Marquette, stating that they are "evidently placing power politics over the welfare of belaguered and help-needy Ratomkiran citizens". The communist state of Carentania stated that they see the latest developments as a positive turn of events. Marshall Drith Vannhere has already announced that he wishes to address the Council of Nations in order to get recognition for him and the temporary government by the international community. The Marshall also addressed Marquette saying that it is his wish to continue the good diplomatic relations between the two countries. It is still a question if the leader of the military takeover will be able to address the CoN since the current delegation to the council is made up of supporters of the old government.

The situation in Ratomkira is worrisome and we shall monitor it closely. But seeing the dire situation of Ratomkiran nationals, Her Excellency Premier Shahrazad Martinique would like to meet with Marshall Vanhere at the earliest possible to discuss ways Belmont may aid the Ratomkiran people and nation deal with these tough times.

While it would be Marshall Vannhere's pleasure to meet with the esteemed Premier Shahrazad Martinique of Belmont his busy schedule doesn't allow him to be available for at least two weeks. Understanding the need for clarification we propose that the Ratomkiran embassy in Paris be contacted. We are in good contact with our ambassador as he has already shown his allegiance to the temporary military government.

The Imperial government has summoned the Ratomkiran ambassador to give an explanation of the recent developments. As of now, we urge restraint, we urge order and we urge adherence to the laws and constitution of the Kingdom of Ratomkira. The Imperial government reminds all parties that it expects safety and legal security for Imperial subjects and ethnic Oikawans to be upheld.

While the People's Republic cannot condone the violent seizure of power by the Ratomkiran military, their recent actions have shown much promise and could lay the foundations for a new relationship between Vangala and Ratomkira and we too wish to organise a meeting as soon as possible with the transitional government.

Violence in Ratomkira drastically down
Military uprising appears to be a success as violence in the country hits a long awaited low

Siem Khun -- Insurgent related violence sharply decreased since the military takeover. During the last 3 days insurgent violence rates went down at least 70%, the Bureau of Defence and War Statistics said. The main reason for this drastic decrease is obviously the ceasefire with the KKP, which went in effect during the 25th at midnight. But there are more elements that contribute to the fall. Another prominent reason is that the military has spoken to not only the communists but also the various nationalist movements. Po Matsu, a leader of the Lanxangese Freedom Front said that they where approached by the military "in a transparent and civilized manner" and that "unlike past negotiations with the former government there was a honest and understanding atmosphere". It is clear that the temporary military government is using a different strategy, where the former government refused talks or used them to mislead or make arrests the military didn't. So far 5 insurgent groups, including the KKP, have stated that they will honour the ceasefire, which will last until negotiations have been concluded with all parties.

The last major form of insurgence comes from the royalists who still refuse to recognise the country's new government. At this moment most of the remaining royalists are bolstering their forces in the Pomnichin province, still holding on to two major and three smaller cities including Camsing. The military estimated the royalist manpower around 25,000 in the Pomnichin province and about 3,000 in the rest of the country. Specialists have been arguing about those numbers, some saying that there are even more active royalists and others saying they have become an insignificant power, time will most certainly tell us. Another question one could ask himself is "why do we refer to the supporters of the old government as 'royalists' while the word loyalists would fit much better?" The military government stated on the first day of the uprising that they had no intention of dethroning the King, but are planning to hold a referendum to decide if he may return and if so with how much power. Therefore the new military government isn't exactly anti-monarchy, with many high ranking officers who helped during the takeover even stating that they are still dedicated royalists. It appears that the motivation to plan or take part in the uprising did not come primarily from anti-royal sentiment, but rather from the will to keep our country from falling into unstoppable chaos.

Council for Democracy and Justice formed
Transitional government finalised as last governmental posts are divided

Siem Khun -- Our country's military leaders has just announced that they finalised the formation of the temporary government. The government, which will be in effect until a democratically elected government takes over, took the name 'Council for Democracy and Justice' to emphasize their commitment to democracy, justice and stability. A spokesperson for the newly formed council stated; "in order to push through the promised democratic, social and military reforms we must have a strong, truthful and transparent governing body". The announcement was made at 4 PM this afternoon and was followed by a small ceremony in the Bakei building, the structure from where the council will exercise their administrative and executive powers. The leader of the uprising, Marshall Drith Vannhere, was personally present during the announcement and claimed that today was another historic day for Ratomkira.

There are many tasks that lie ahead of the newly formed Council of Democracy and Justice. Among the most important ones is the negotiations with the KKP scheduled for next week. While the negotiations will take place behind closed doors the council told us that the location of the meeting will be in Na Treng, a city divided between the military and KKP-KSF forces. An exact location will, for safety reasons, not be revealed. When we asked a council representative what exactly the demands of the KKP are he replied; "We are not 100% sure of what exactly the KKP will put on the table. We know that the KKP is currently having much internal discussions about their approach to the peace process." The manifest of the KKP is among other things in favour of a communist state and urges its followers to turn the country into a republic. It is thought by many analysts that the KKP will have to moderate their goals if they want the negotiations to be a success.

With the formation of the council complete, all governmental positions have been refilled. As expected the military choose Marshall Vannhere as the new temporary Prime Minister. The remaining posts are mostly occupied by other high ranking officers with only four ministers being civilians. The selection was made by the heads of the three military branches. The faces of the new government, which is yet to be recognised by the international community, are the following.

King remains under house arrest
King Pheakdei Srieng III remains in custody as he refuses to recognize the new government

Siem Khun -- While for safety reasons the exact whereabouts of King Pheakdei Srieng III remains highly classified, the Council for Democracy and Justice has just announced that he still refuses to recognise the newly formed government and thus will remain under house arrest. A spokesperson for the government stated that the King had been given the option either to recognise the Council and move freely or refuse and remain under house arrest. For some it might seem that the King is being pressured to recognise the new government, but according to Prime Minister Drith Vannhere nothing is further away from the truth. "If the King had recognised the Council as the sole executive and administrative power, he would have been able to retake the throne and his place as the official head of state. By continuing to refuse he has put the nation's progress over the last few days in jeopardy and must not be allowed to be a major obstacle in the near future." Drith Vannhere stated. He continued to say that the King is not only under house arrest to keep the democratisation process possible but also for his own safety as their is much individual and organisational disliking for the monarch. Furthermore it was announced that the King is still in a physically comfortable situation and that rumours, often launched by the royalists, of his torture or even death are ridiculous.

Shortly after these announcements where made the ministries of finance and justice made a joint statement in which they said that a significant amount of the royal family's personal wealth will be used to fund the upcoming elections and some other governmental projects. Minister of Finance, general Puthiryth Dan, stated that "it is high time that the King personally contributes to the democratisation of Ratomkira..." This decision was made earlier today by the council immediately after the King's refusal to recognise the country's de facto leaders. These measures are widely seen as a major step forward since the former government had repeatedly the elections, in which only pro-governmental parties where able to compete. With the first free elections since 1950 back on track more and more political parties are already being formed. According to the council there is little that can stop the Kambudjan and Lanxangese voices throughout the country from being heard. They added that the only real treat to the new Ratomkiran democracy lies abroad.

Time will tell how the self proclaimed 'royalists', who are still firmly holding on to the Pomnichin province, will react on the newest actions of the Council for Democracy and Justice. During the last few days the stand-off between pro-council forces and royalists on the borders of the province have remained peaceful regardless of the ever-rising tensions. Both sides carefully await who, if any, will make the first move. The council has restated that it wishes to resolve the situation with diplomacy, however the royalist forces continue to refuse sitting at the peace table.

Terrorist attack casts shadow over peace process
Two car bombs explode in Na Treng as peace negotiations start

Na Treng -- After over two weeks of peace the war torn city of Na Treng has once again become the victim of terrorist aggression in form of two car bombings. This time however the act of violence wasn't the work of the communist KKP or KSF, but came from the self-proclaimed 'royalist' spectrum. The attacks took place in and near the centre of Na Treng and was clearly directed against the peace negotiations that just started between the Council of Democracy and Justice and the Kangtoap Krawham Padevat (KKP). The two attacks occurred between nine and ten PM this morning when two cars filled with explosives detonated in different parts of the city. The military stated that 18 people, including 3 soldiers, have already been confirmed dead, but warns that the deathtoll might rise even further. Although the terrorists who claimed the attack stated that they where a communist splinter group of the KKP it quickly became clear that it was the work of a royalist cell still operating within the city. This was discovered after two of the terrorists where identified as former members of the now outlawed Royalist Front militias with the help of security camera's and eyewitnesses. According to the Royal Intelligence Bureau a message was also intercepted indicating a link between the attackers in Na Treng and the royalist held province of Pomnichin, sadly after the brutal attack. It is clear that the goal of these attacks was to destabilize the peace process and probably even provoke a restart of the bloody conflict between the communists and the military.

This comes as a serious blow to the already historical peace process, which started this morning. A spokesperson for the council has however said that the talks, which are taking place in a secret location within the city, weren't disturbed by the attack outside of an "unplanned half hour brake after which both parties retook their place on the table". Thus it appears that this act of violence directed not only against the long awaited peaceful future of this country but also against its people has failed in all its tasks except for destroying the lives of the victims families and friends. During the unplanned brake from the talks Marshall and Prime Minister Drith Vannhere, who is present at the negotiations along with KKP leader Hun Mochhai, send his condolences in the name of the council and the military to the families of the fallen and reaffirmed his commitment to stability. "I think I speak for most Ratomkirans, Kambudjan and Lanxangese, when I say that such atrocities only strengthen our determination to continue what we are doing, creating a better nation...", the Prime Minister said. The negotiations have been said to be going smoothly and with sufficient mutual respect, despite the past. It is however to soon to say if they have been a success or what the agreements will look like.

Violent clashes within communist ranks
Sectarian violence erupts between KKP and KSF after failure to find a consensus

Hantaing / Na Treng -- The peace process has once again been forced to take a step back as violence between the two communist factions erupted. According to the spokesperson of the KKP first clashes started in Hantaing, a communist occupied village near Na Treng, when KSF forces under the leadership of Yan Hi successfully forced out about 30 KKP fighters. Hantaing is the only place where the KSF has more men stationed then the KKP and is known to be their only real bastion of influence in the North. It has been confirmed that shots where fired and at least 6 KKP fighters died during the Hantaing takeover. Soon afterwards the violence spread to other communist occupied territories where forces of both the KKP and KSF are present with barricades already being formed and shots being fired in parts of Na Treng, among other places. The Northern city of Na Treng, of which 70% is occupied by communist forces, hosts about 900 KSF fighters making up around 6% of the joint KKP-KSF forces. Although the Kambudjan Socialist Front (KSF) is much smaller then the KKP it is thought that they could severely weaken their former ally, especially given their strategic positions within communist occupied Ratomkira. The KSF is also expected to see a significant boost in membership since a number of disillusioned Kambudjan KKP fighters are apparently disappointed with the diplomatic direction and/or more 'moderate' demands towards the peace talks. This marks an informal ending to the relatively short-lived alliance between the KKP and the KSF, formed less then two months ago. It would be an understatement to say that this comes at a very bad time for the KKP.

The two main reasons for the split include the fact that there are some major ideological differences between the groups and that the KSF claims to be barely represented in the peace talks. Out of the 5 communist representatives to the peace negotiation only one is aligned with the KSF. While the KSF thinks this is too few the KKP stated that since the KSF only makes up 1/10 of the total communist forces they are represented well enough. According to the KSF one person is not enough to properly put the Kambudjan Socialist agenda on the table. Other main reasons for the recent outbreak of violence are of ideological nature. The KSF, unlike the KKP, has besides a communist agenda also a nationalist one. It is the KSF's main goal to create an independent Kambudjan socialist republic while the KKP is for a socialist Ratomkira. The nationalism of the KSF has often caused friction between the two groups in the past. Other factors are thought to include the arrogance of the KKP towards the KSF and 'discrimination' when it came to forming local governments and weapon distribution.

The effects of all this on the peace process remain unclear for now. The Council for Democracy and Justice announced that it will monitor the situation closely and hopes that the problems are resolved without further bloodshed. The negotiations are likely to be postponed until a time when the North re-stabilizes.

Ratomkira to learn lessons from Batavian elections
Recent elections in Batavia appear to have been a success, an example for our nation

Siem Khun -- According to independent international observers the elections in the formerly hard-line communist state of Batavia have been a tremendous success. The country's main broadcasting network 'Batavian Central News' reported earlier today that the first free election had gone well and fair aside from a few minor troubles caused by the Batavian Republican Army (BRA). It appears that the social democrats of the BSDP have won the elections with their leader Alex de Jonghe becoming the new prime minister. Although the ministry of external affairs naturally congratulated the newly chosen government, the winners of these elections are of less importance to our country's position or economy. The government has stated that it can learn much from the democratisation of Batavia. The newly formed 'Ratomkiran Election Commission' said that the current Batavian state is an example for all nations and governments that wish to turn their country into a respectable, democratic society.

The main reason why the Batavian elections are of such importance to our country are the similarities between both nations. Like in Ratomkira, the undemocratically elected government of Batavia had been overthrown by the military, who then pushed through democratic reforms. Both country's also have to suffer under a bloody insurgency, which is a major drain on the finances and resources. While these two are the major similarities there are also several other things both countries share such as widespread corruption and humanitarian issues, next to the many obvious differences. One of the biggest differences is the fact that while our nation is near bankruptcy the Batavians clearly had sufficient funds and means to organize a truly democratic election on such short notice. Knowing that the main reasons for the slow pace of the reforms in Ratomkira is the financial situation, this does make the recent events in Batavia of much less relevance. Not to mention the distinguished contrast when it comes to economy, the Batavians having a socialist economy and our country having the exact opposite.

Regardless of the latter the Ratomkiran Election Commission has announced that it will invite members of the Batavian election board to give them some information and advice on how best to organise the democratic process here. They stated that "Although there are many differences between Batavia and Ratomkira there is much to learn from them. They came from a resembling situations and made the elections an overwhelming success. What they did there is truly amazing..." They continued to say that the date for the Ratomkiran elections will soon be announced.

Government issues ultimatum against royalist province
Council for Democracy and Justice gives the last royalist held province one week to disband

Camsing -- The Council for Democracy and Justice has just moments ago issued an ultimatum directed against the leaders of the former government, which is still controlling the south-eastern province of Pomnichin and a few surrounding area's. This comes just a few hours after another brutal attack committed by the Royalist Front in the small city of Nokutsa, where two soldiers lost their lives and a third one got badly injured in a shoot-out. It appears that the act of violence in Nokutsa was the last drop that pushed the Council into issuing the ultimatum. In an official statement Prime Minister Drith Vannhere himself explained the content of the ultimatum. "Our demands are quite simple. The immediate cessation of hostilities by the royalists, the formal disbanding of the undemocratic old government and its remaining armed forces, recognition for the new leaders and the reforms we wish to push through." The ultimatum will expire exactly one week from today, at 11 AM on the 22th of March. However it is also clearly specified that should another royalist attack take place anywhere in the country with a link being discovered with the Pomnichin province, the ultimatum will prematurely expire and the government will take "appropriate actions".

The measures that the military will take if the royalists refuse to adhere have not been specified like the demands of the ultimatum itself, but it is clear that the military is threatening to retake the Pomnichin province by force if necessary. A spokesperson for the government stated that while they tried and are still trying to avoid having too go to war with there former comrades in arms, the royalists under the command of the old government have continued to provoke and shed the blood of innocent Kambudjans and Lanxangese. The spokesperson continued to say that since the military takeover the self-proclaimed royalists have been responsible for the deaths of at least 310 fellow countrymen, just less then half of those being civilians. Although most of these unfortunate fatalities occurred during the takeover itself their is an average of one royalist attack every two days, just slightly less then the KKP before the ceasefire. To show that the Council and the military is taking the ultimatum seriously they have increased the amount of troops on the Pomnichin provincial border by another two divisions comprising of 20,000 soldiers. In an attempt to ready the troops for the potential battle they where told that the so-called royalists where no longer their brothers in combat but rather reduced themselves to mere terrorists with the aim of destroying the lives of freedom-minded Ratomkirans and reinstalling the corrupt semi-dictatorship that once ruled our nation. It was made clear that should the royalists refuse their last chance of peace the battle will be heartbreaking yet essential for the future of our nation and democracy.

The remaining members of the old government, those who have not been placed under house arrest or left the country, in Pomnichin have not yet responded to the ultimatum. It is unclear if they will accept the demands of the transitional government with even the most specialized analysts only guessing possible outcomes. It is also unclear what the King's position is in all of this. It is suspected that King Pheakdei Srieng III, who is still being held in an unknown location by the government, will continue his support for the old government.
