Ivernia i still insist in the creation of a "virgin" map, only with the names of the European Continents, and with an ethnic legend of some kind. :) I think it will be easier for the new players to fit in... ;)

Fair enough! I'll make a map, and post a thread in a bit.

Meteora, welcome. Glad to hear you might be interested in going to Touyou, the name of the general area around Yujin. The area has really been lacking activity really. There are plans to turn the Yujin nation, our China, into a series of warlord NPCs given the absence of its player. Of course that doesn't stop you from starting your own nation, far from it, just wanted to point this out to you so you get an idea about the state of the area. Though to be fair, if it is many people to interact what you are looking for, then Touyou right now is not the area for you. Activity is chiefly centered around the Gallo-Germanian 'Europe' region and to an extend Himyar when it comes to colonial business. I know that one other player has the idea of introducing a community played nation in Touyou, but otherwise it's an area that is much devoid of interaction. If you want to rise to the challenge regardless of my warnings, then more power to you. I'd certainly enjoy another soul to interact and shape the region with.

That is a pity, I was hoping for regional power in what would be considered the East Asian region here to be split between Toyzen, Yujin and myself. I was debating between Touyou and Europe, but my knowledge in Europe is severely lacking compare to what little I already know of Asian countries. I think I'll just stick with Touyou area for a while, if nothing really catches on I suppose I could create a second nation some time down the line.

Can we interact with NPCs? And if so, to what extent? I presume people can pick up a NPC nation after a certain period of inactivity from the original player?

Oh and I tried to do some research on Touzen but I couldn't come up with anything in particular, so I could create some contrast/similarities. Would it be considered almost identical to Imperial Japan?

You can interact with NPC's yes, you can interact with these nations so long as the NPC nation's national character is maintained and the interaction does not produce an entirely one-sided benefit for the active player nation.

Any NPC on the map can be replaced by a new active player nation under the stipulation that the new nation retains important historical or relations points to other nations. An example of this would be Danzig (NPC) which was a capitalist city state, the nation that replaces Danzig must at least historically have had a free market background to maintain other player/nations own history.

Yes, we can interact with NPCs under something called 'Proposition 10'. Basically, you can RP in and with these countries within reason, as can any other players. This allows us to include these nations into RP and drive plots, such as the ongoing occupation of Solaren, for example. You are also free to continue playing as a NPC, if you keep the major defining characteristics of the nation in place, so they still tie into the role they occupy in history.

As for Touzen I don't think there is a comprehensive post about it somewhere right now pertaining to its incarnation in the current setting. Touzen is very different from Imperial Japan. For starters, it has no monarchy anymore and instead is ruled by a radical and 'dynamic' political movement called 'post-delegationism', which is a sort historical materialism based variant of radicalism rooted in council democracy, libertarian individualism and an economic system blurring somewhere between unrestrained market economics and syndicalism. The basic assumption of post-delegationism, without going into too much detail, is the idea that history is based on the unjust appropriation of power by small groups at the expense of the majority, who however voluntarily traded away their right to self-determination as societies became more and more complex, a process that in PD theory began when the first settlers claimed land as their own, taking it away from all others in return. Post-delegationists also reject political parties, which they see as tools that take away direct political power from every individual, and instead prefer a system of directly elected individuals not associated with any parties, who can be recalled by the electorate at any moment.

Post-delegationist governments are also in power in the Jurchen Republic (the territory north of Yujin which for some reason is labeled as Touzen, which it should not be) and Boliatur and form a minority current led by a warlord in northern Yujin. Right now, there is a power struggle within Touzen over the future of the revolution, with the gradualists, who argue for a slow transformation of society, being opposed by the radicals, who argue for immediate radical transformation and exporting the revolution across the globe by force. The 'Young Regicists' are a powerful post-delegationist youth movement in Boliatur, and their name again I think drives home the fact that monarchy and Touzen do not mix particularly well, which was actually a very deliberate choice as doing a monarchist Japanese nation felt fairly outdone.

Domestically, the post-delegationist system has been in place for over 30 years, which means that the first generations have grown up under its indoctrination and values, so Touzen society is slowly shifting more towards individualism than would be the case in a comparable RL Japan. Religions include Shinto (appropriated as a revolutionary cult not unlike those created in the radical phase in the French Revolution), various sects of Buddhism and the Eastern Saints, the sinocentric Christian sect originating from Yujin.

Another important fact is that unlike RL Asia, the Yujin Empire maintained internal stability for a relatively long period, allowing their traders to go westwards as well, leading to a mutual exchange of ideas that also encouraged earlier industrialization in Touyou. Especially Touzen is highly industrialized as well as certain areas of Yujin, peasants of course constitute still a large part of the population of Yujin. Still, we had some mandate cities in our history, but generally European powers were not able to directly set up colonies in Eastern Touyou, as the societies there were on a comparable level of development throughout the 14th to 17th centuries and subsequently discouraged attempts at colonizations in favor of easier expansion in Himyar.

Hello Nicola, welcome to the forum! Great to hear that you want to play a Papal nation - only recently there has been a discussion about how we need a new Pope and somebody to play him, so you couldn't have come at a better time. If you got any questions on how to begin, feel free to ask here or get into direct contact with Ivernia - he's the moderator for new arrivals. Have fun!

Hi Nicola! Welcome to Europe, coming from neighboring Greece I can tell you that your country is very beautiful and your people are awesome ;) We don't have a pope but we do have a bunch of cardinals and a Catholic church, called the Tiburian Catholic church. While my country is Tiburian catholic I don't know more so you'll have to ask @Iveria for further details.

Really? Nice, we really needed someone to do that but most people, me included, want to have massive Empires and don't like the idea of a tiny city state. In a way you're doing all of us a favor :)

Hi there everyone. I'm Stijn from Belgium. In the past I had an account on a previous version of this forum, with a map and stuff. I came to check on this and noticed I had to reregister. So here it goes. How have you been?

Welkom terug op het forum, Orioni :)

Welcome at this forum, Meteora :)

Benvenuto a questo forum, Tiburtina :) In effetto, abbiamo bisogno di un papa, allora prego :) For the people who don't understand Italian: Welcome to this forum, Tiburtina. Indeed, we need a pope, so go ahead.
