His Majesty's Government will be sealing the border except for 3 designated points. All rail crossings will remain open. We are deeply concerned with this threat and will continue to monitor the situation. We are willing to aid our neighbor in anyway possible.

APM implicated in Carcassonne bombings by DG-ISE

DG-ISE Philippe Petain giving the press a summary of the ISE's findings

Paris | Royaume de Belmont:

As Carcassonne still reels from the pain of the attacks, the ISE has announced that their preliminary investigations have revealed that they believe that the deadly twin bombings in the southern Belmontien city were carried out by the Marquette based terrorist group called the APM, which has been trying to establish itself in south Belmont and the ISE has been carrying out raids against their operatives across south Belmont. The Marquen media first reported the APM's presence earlier in the year, soon after their economy's collapse, and since then the ISE and the Government of Belmont have responded with harsh measures to root out APM presence in Belmont.

According to sources, on the eve of the attacks, Belmont had almost 300 members or supporters of the Marquen terror group in Belmontien prisons, most of whom were waiting to be deported to Marquette. Many in the ISE, according to our source, have been severely annoyed by the lack of interest by the Marquen government in the repatriation of their citizens arrested in Belmont. The Government of Belmont has also been trying to push the EDF members to take notice of the security situation in Marquette but little has been done to soothe Belmontien fears. And now, with Paris' fears realized, not a single statement has come from an EDF member state in which they have sent their condolences to the families of the victims, much unlike our allies and friends in Anbat, Cortona and Ratomkira.

Today, three more people succumb to their injuries bringing the total death toll to 211.

The Government of Marquette is of course willing to legally process the accused if the government of Belmont is unwilling to do so. We of course extend our condolences to the families but would have wished to rather do so in private. We will send aircraft to transport the accused on Monday.

PARLIAMENT DEMANDS "COMPREHENSIVE" SECURITY TALKS BETWEEN PARIS AND FOND DU LOC BEFORE REPATRIATION OF APM MEMBERS
Premier supports Parliament's resolution, calls on Marquen Premier to come to Paris

As news broke that Marquette would be repatriating 275 of the APM members arrested in Belmont, Parliament propelled into action and passed an all party resolution where they said "Prior to addressing the common security issues between the Kingdoms of Belmont and Marquette, this house can not allow the repatriation of APM terrorists." The Premier, who flew back from Carcassonne yesterday night, gave her full support to the resolution. Soon thereafter, the Foreign Office informed the Marquen government that Premier Martinique was looking to meet her Marquen counterpart at the earliest. So far no answer has come from that government.

Ties between Belmont and Marquette have reached new lows, not seen since the Marquen invasion of Belmont and other Francophone states in 1799, and public opinion is decidedly negative about the Marquen government due to their aloofness on the matter. At present, the Belmontien side of the border remains closed and heavily monitored by the Border Rangers.

Martinique - Rouve meeting to go ahead at Maison de Grosvenor

INTERNATIONAL POLITICS | By Michelle Sant-Pierre

This past week, Belmont has been remembering the loss of 211 of its sons and daughters, all noble citizens caught up in a case of being at the wrong place at the wrong time. The attack, which is being claimed as the most deadly loss of Belmontien life since the Great War, has shaken Belmontien society and a fear has descended across southern Belmont. The Realm of Visidame, a country that is part of Belmont and which borders the southern borders, with Marquette, has closed schools for the following week, citing security concerns, and have called for people to refrain from leaving their houses for "trivial matters."

Needless to say, such conditions are something very new to Belmont. Yes, one would expect such things in Wazistan, where the Ijad regime has little control over Islamist elements in their society, but Belmont, long regarded as one of the safest countries in Europe, has been attacked by elements not belonging to its own society. The brutal attacks, as confirmed by the DG-ISE, were carried out by members of the APM, retaliating against the ISE's attempt to uproot the Marquen terror group from Belmont's southern regions, something which the Marquen intelligence and security agencies are showing little signs of doing, to the dismay of Paris.

But these recent attacks have allowed the Martinique government to step up the ante, calling for the Marquen government to speed up the extradition of the Marquen citizens arrested in Belmont for attempts to set up APM safehouses in southern Belmontien cities. The Parliament, as well, has turned the heat on, on our southern neighbor, demanding that the Chancellor of Marquette come to Paris to conduct a security dialogue with Premier Martinique, something which Fond du Loc was quick to agree to. So far, public opinion in Belmont has been weary of the Marquen government and many support the military's continued enforcement of border closure. While this is a step in the positive direction its, in my opinion, not enough.

Given that Marquette is going through a severe economic crisis, which brought Belmont close to a downturn, and reports of tension between the King and Chancellor are coming to the fore in the international press, I feel that the government of that country is just not giving enough attention to the concerns of Belmont. According to my sources in the Premier's office, Premier Martinique did bring the issue up at her meeting with the Franconian Chancellor, but the issue was relegated to secondary status, due to the -at that time- ongoing Batavien crisis. But after that visit, The Ministry of the Interior did close the open areas of the border, securing the border greatly.

But now, with talks to be held soon between the heads of government of the two Francophone states, Paris is set to grill the Marquen delegation for their perceived "neglectfulness" on the valid concerns of their northern neighbor. Premier Martinique has already said that she would not allow the talks to end until a definitive understanding was not reached and that failure at these security talks would result in severe backlash to the Belmont-EDF ties, her government and previous ones had worked so hard to strengthen.

Premier Martinique adamant to bring Belmont "into the folds of the EDF"
Premier speaks to Parliament, support of coalition partners assured

Ignoring the demonstrations against Belmontien integration into the EDF, organized by right-wing political organizations, the Premier of Belmont, Mme. Shahrazad Martinique, has spoken in Parliament to continue to push Belmont closer to the EDF, with the eventual goal of associate membership. The Premier is supported in the endeavor by her coalition partners and has wide support amongst the general populace.

It is assumed that the greater integration into the EDF bloc will result in Belmont's economic prosperity and greater defensive capabilities. The Premier also said that the current security issues with Marquette would be worked upon and Belmont wasn't looking to demonize the Marquen government and that the two Kingdoms shared a long shared history and Premier Martinique said that she was sure that the ties would continue to strengthen in the coming century.

General Auguste Norzanne retires as Chief of Army Staff
Queen to install new chief on 5th of April 2010

After a full forty years serving the Crown of Belmont, General Auguste Norzanne, after reaching sixty seven, has retired from the armed forces. Having been installed as the Chief of Army Staff (CoAS) in early 2007, General Norzanne oversaw the introduction of several new technology into the army and also revamped the Homeland Defense Programs. The General enlisted into the army in 1970 and has seen action in a number of theaters where Belmont's armed forces have taken part and has also served in several peacekeeping missions.

Later today, as a retired head of the army, General Norzanne and his family were invited to the Palace to dine with the Queen and the Duke of Saint-Lo. General Norzanne has indicated that his retirement will allow him to focus his energies with his growing family and to write his autobiography. It is rumored that the General is going to be paid a seven figure sum for his autobiography, which is guaranteed to sell well, and he is expected to start writing columns for newspaper outlets on security and defense issues.

Paris shuts down as Bilateral Security talks begin
Martinique & Rouve to conduct private meeting before being joined by other officials

The Grosvenor House press secretary has announced that the Marquen Chancellor Rouve has been recieved by Premier Martinique and that the two Heads of Government had begun the first phase of the bilateral security talks aimed at resolving security issues created by the Marquen terror organization the APM. That terror outfit has claimed responsibility for the deadly twin bombings in Carcassonne and have been the target of ISE raids for the past two months. It is said that the current round of talks in Paris will be followed by a second round of talks between Belmontien and Marquen ministers, defense and security officials. The second round of talks will take place in north Belmont at the Premier's Country residence.

While the two heads of government meet in Paris, conservatives are demonstrating in Carcassonne against the 'weak' and 'indecisive' response of the government against the Marquen based APM terror group. The demonstrators, aligning themselves with the PdJ, have said that they remain convinced that the Marquen government is trying to destabilize Belmont and do a repeat of 1799 invasion of Belmont and take over the mineral rich area of Visidame (South Belmont).

PARIS - MERCREDI 7. AVRIL. 2010

Paris calls for calm as Sarmatia beats war drums
The Foreign Office has spoken once again calling for calm and dialogue to resolve the current issues and for all nations in that region to introduce confidence building measures to allay the fears of others in the region and internationally. The FO has also said that Belmont was unhappy with the surge of mobilizations and war games taking place in the region and said that it was Paris' hope that diplomatic measures are enough to restore order in the region.

Border security heightened as anti-terror measures continue
The border between the Kingdoms of Belmont and Marquette has gone up significantly and the ISE has increased the pace of raids on suspected terrorist safe houses. The DG-ISE has also authorized the detention of anyone suspected to be part of terror outfits at the secretive and notorious Prison de Bastille. The Marquen government has also been informed that the 275 Marquen nationals arrested would be deported back home on Monday.

Finance Ministry increases defense budget by 5%
It had been expected since the election of the current government but it couldn't have come at a more tense time. The Finance Minister, Ichiro Yamaguchi, has announced in Parliament that the Defense budget of the country would be risen from its current levels by 5%. The Finance Minister also said that his ministry had reviewed the proposals of the MoD and had deemed the extra funds nessesary for national defense and maintaining the armed forces' strategic capabilities.

PARIS - JEUDI. 8. AVRIL. 2010

Paris offers ₣1.5 BILLION arms deal to Firenze
Today the Foreign Minister of Cortona was in Paris for a brief meeting with his counterpart at the Foreign Office. It has been rumored that Foreign Minister Chauvelin offered his guest's country a 1.5 billion francs arms deal which would significantly boost the Cortonan military's standing and would help them in defending the vast expanses of their border zones. The deal, according to rumors, will bulk up the Cortonan Ground Forces. In recent months, Belmont and Cortona have started collaborating on a wide range of issues and have strengthened their ties.

Security Agreement signed by Deputy Foreign Minister with Wiese
The Foreign Office has informed the media that the Deputy Foreign Minister has signed a comprehensive security agreement with Wiese and has also started talks about securing licensing rights for some of the many Wieser infantry weaponry. The details of the agreement are highly classified and the two countries have, reportedly, agreed to speak as little about the matter as possible.

Belmont - Anglia business ties going well: Commerce Ministry
Belmont and Anglia have long been interacting with each other economically and that interaction increased even more so since the passing of the 1979 Free trade agreement between the two kingdoms. But a new report by the Commerce Ministry has shown that more Belmontien businessmen are investing in Anglia than ever before. It also showed that majority of those businessmen were originally investors in Marquette but have pulled out due to unpredictability in that market.

PARIS - VENDREDI. 9. AVRIL. 2010.

CdS hopes to partner with Franken mining companies
Franken has many mining companies operating in the coal rich southern Belmont regions. The Charbon du Sud, a local mining company owned by Thassise, has announced that it would like to collaborate with the Franconian firms and to work with them in coal mining in south Belmont. If the deal works out, the investment in the southern mines will be reaching levels never reached before and Belmontien will be exported to much of the world.

Talks with Batavien PM planned for later this week
The Grosvenor House press secretary has announced that Premier Martinique would meet her Batavien counterpart in Paris at the Residence later in the week. The two countries have historically been antagonistic but there have been phases in ties with some minor ups in the past. Paris has been keen on cultivating ties with Batavie and the latest turn of events in that country have made Paris interested in doing so once more.

Security Talks conclude, Paris calls them a success
The security talks between the Marquen and Belmontien government has ended and Premier Martinique is calling them a great success. The two countries agreed to tighten border security, cooperation between the intelligence communities of both countries and additional measures which will cripple the terrorist outfits. The talks have strengthened the ties of Belmont and Marquette and have enabled Paris and Fond du Loc to move past the tension created in the immediate aftermath of the Carcassonne attacks.

PARIS - SAMEDI. 10. AVRIL. 2010.

Rouve extends invitation to Martinique in wake of security talks
With the bilateral issues resolved and security discussed, it has been announced that the Marquen Chancellor officially invited Belmont to join the EDF's second tier membership. The Grosvenor House press secretary also stated that Premier Martinique had accepted immediately and that official word would come from Nuremberg soon on the matter. Finally after fifty years of dodging the EDF, through the wisdom of Her Majesty The Queen and political strength of Mme. Premier Martinique, Belmont has been accepted into the folds of the EDF.

Exports see great highs in Q1: Commerce Ministry
With the "Made in Belmont" label doing great business in the EDF Bloc, the label has also started making great gains in other markets such as Abruzicstan, Anglia, Anbat, Arendaal, Cortona, Hajr, Einland and the Papal States. In fact, the past quarter has been more productive when compared to the last few years. This is perceived due to the change of image which has come after the Plantard government, which alienated many of Belmont's allies and markets. With the coming of the Martinique government economic growth has gotten steadier and stronger.

Reservations expressed at Kyiv's CoN membership veto
While no one is saying anything in public on the matter, it has been reported that many politicians have been irked by Oikawa's decision to block Kyiv's membership into the international body. Talking with a senior member of the Chambre des Communes, who spoke on condition of anonymity, we found that the mood was against the move. In the wake of the Batavie crisis, many politicians had praised Oikawa for their responsible role but now the many are calling it an irresponsible move which could destabilize the entire region.

PARIS - DIMANCHE. 11. AVRIL. 2010.

95% of Belmont Airways to be privatized: Finance Ministry
The state airline, Belmont Airways, has long been considered one of the most profitable of the government owned companies and has benefited greatly by the travel agreements with numerous countries across the world. But the Finance Ministry has announced that it would like to bring down their stake in the airline and privatize large chunks of the state airline. Finance Minister Ichiro Yamaguchi, an Oikawan-origin Belmontien, has long said that the government involvement in the airline had to be reduced for it to compete properly with its competition, domestically and internationally. The date of the auction of shares will be announced at a later date.

Marseilles Port Development Authority orders for extension of current facilities
The MPDA, the public-private body regulating the nation's largest and most prosperous port, has announced that it will need to expand its current facilities to meet the demands. The MPDA has announced that with greater economic interaction with the EDF imminent, the port must be ready to deal with the large inflow of cargo. The move also comes as Belmontien exports have seen a major rise. The MPDA shall provide 50% of the funds and has asked the Government of Cote d'Azur and the Central Government to cover the rest of the costs. The Marseilles Free Trade Zone has also been slated for expansion.

Lac Champlain trade links between Marquette and Belmont strengthen
With serious headway made in the talks in Paris between Chancellor Rouve and Premier Martinique, the effect has trickled down to the trade links between the two countries. In the past Belmont and Marquette have had stormy relations and economic interaction has been low and recent cooperation among the two governments has prompted merchants and traders to start trade with their Francophone neighbors. The Port of Orleans has thus seen a great rise in activity.
