SIRAAMA - The Imperial Assembly, in a drive to submit a complete budget to the Emperor, has announced it's intention to triple the current funding for the Imperial Geological Survey, as well as update the nations current military satellite constellation. The budget increase will go towards not only updating the nations current bathymetric and topological surveys, but doubling the number of state employees currently hired by the IGS.
"Intelligence is the critical key to national defense," Imperial Military liaison to the Imperial Assembly, "the very definition of situational awareness revolves around understanding the nature of your surroundings, and how they serve as a benefit, and detriment, to your strategy."
"The majority of the funding will go towards improving the technology required for data collection, including modernizing standard LIDAR and SONAR equipment, as well as designing a full integrated database which will provide the military, and civilian sphere, with top-of-the-line data."
The announcement follows Imperial Assembly approvals to increase the militaries overall budget by 14%, and amid increased tensions with Carentania over the illegal capture of sailors. Economists have expressed concerns over possibilities for a reduction in commercial support spending, most notably reserve funds designed to subsidize critical failing businesses. Civil activists have decried the government policy as continuing to turn a blind eye to the needs of the citizen populace, which has experienced a decline in public health services and utilities and the sectors became increasingly privatized throughout the first decade of the 21st century.
