National Congress to vote on Commonwealth act tonight

The National Congress in Al Azir will be voting tonight on the Commonwealth act, which will end the current republic and reestablish the country as a Subject of Batavia. This would make the President of Batavia the Head of State, and a Governor General would be appointed to represent the President while he is not in the country. The National Senate and Congress will be dissolved and replaced by a parliamentary system. The main support for this bill is the Liberal Party lead by President Francisca Van Der Berg, who argues that this bill will bring the two countries closer together economically and politically. However, the National Opposition Alliance lead by Fayez Al-Whabi, opposes the bill on the grounds that it will raise tensions between the Arab and Batavian communities and he feels that they will be misrepresented under such a system. However the Liberal party continues to hold the majority of seats in Parliament and despite opposition from the NOA and some Liberal Congressman, the bill is expected to be passed and will be voted on in the Senate later this week.

Akhaltsikhe would like to see the Fulani Senate vote down this bill as we feel that Fulanistan should remain completely independent. Full Independence is a virtual and we'd hate to see Fulanistan make a decision they may regret.

We would like to assure the international community, the Arab community in Fulanistan and the government of Akhaltsikhe that should the Batavian Commonwealth be created and also approved by the Fulanistani government, we will work to ensure a greater cultural understanding between our different peoples, different languages and our shared language of Dutch.

The Batavian Commonwealth makes the acting President of Batavië as head of state for Batavië as well as Fulanistan, however, Fulanistan will have full independence. Their domestic and foreign policy will not be interfered with and their governments will be permitted to leave the commonwealth at any time by an act of parliament. Furthermore, we would like to stress that this is mostly a ceremonial creation, but it will bring great economic, cultural, social and governmental benefits for Batavië and Fulanistan.

The People's Republic of Vangala must lambast Batavia for promoting this neoimperialist scheme that will give Vlaanderen undue influence in Fulanstani affairs.

This is an unacceptable intrusion on the Arab people's sovereignty. The Sultanate will not accept this neo-colonial invasion of Arab land and will never recognize this illegitimate colonial construct. We demand Batavia's immediate withdrawal from Himyar and the undivided Arab people's land. We call on every Arab in Fulanistan to defend the nation's independence against this invasion.

For the first time in History, Akhaltsikhe agrees with both Hajr and Vangala. We urge that Fulanistan takes their opinions into account as well as ours and vote down this Commonwealth Act.

Increasing cultural ties can be done though over means.

This is a bilateral affair of equal measure. The government of Fulanistan has every right to refuse the commonwealth or withdraw at any time. The idea was discussed on a mutual level and most importantly the commonwealth will be an equal partnership. Batavië will not hold any undue influence over Fulanistani affairs. The Batavian President will be a symbolic and uniting leader for all people in the commonwealth, including Arab and Dutch-speaking people of Fulanistan.

The Himyar community should not be alarmed. Before they criticise this idea they should wait to see what it will bring to the bilateral relationship of Batavië and Fulanistan. It will not strip Fulanistan of any sovereignty or rights.

Prior to the communist uprising of the 1950s, Fulanistan was indeed a colony of Batavië. Fulanistan gained independence peacefully, but the strong bilateral relationship was lost and the countries ignored each other. Now we have seen how important these close relations are and there is no way to bring them closer than by uniting under one head of state.

These allegations and concerns are baseless. If anything negative comes out of the formation of a commonwealth we welcome the governments of Himyar to comment then and only then. For now, however, even before the commonwealth has been founded, there is no evidence that this will be of a negative persuasion.

If Batavia chooses to continue to pursue its confrontational attitude towards the undivided Arab nation's land, we warn that this will negatively impact our bilateral ties. We will not tolerate neo-colonialism in Himyar.

This office has commented already on the matter at issue. This process is 100 per cent democratic and there is no confrontation in Fulanistan. This is a unifying act and includes all Fulanistani's, Arab or otherwise.

One of the most progressive policies under the previous government of Batavia was the decolonisation of Fulanistan granting the people of all ethnicities freedom and independence. The proposed Commonwealth threatens to partially reverse that decision and undermine the sovereignty of Fulanistan. Should the act pass, Vangala will consult relevant partners and work to formulating an appropriate response.

As previously stated, Fulanistan will retain complete sovereignty. Any allegation otherwise is simply a misrepresentation of the facts, it's that simple.

Batavia's tone is not helpful. We repeat, if the country continues to maintain that it deserves the right to appoint the head of state of a Himyarite, Arab nation, this will negatively affect bilateral ties, as it will negatively affect Batavian relations with all of Himyar.

Batavië does not reserve the right to appoint a head of state for Fulanistan. This is a choice made by both the Batavian and Fulanistani governments together. The Fulanistani government will be the one choosing candidates for Governor General and the President must choose from that list. The Fulanistani government will therefor be choosing its representative.

The commonwealth is voluntary and it has in no way been imposed. It's that simple.

We see that the Batavians are uninterested in Himyarite and Arab opinion. We will take this into account and draw our conclusions accordingly.

On the contrary, we are extremely interested in Himyarite and Arab opinion. Much of Fulanistan is Arab, but they, too, share a common history with us in Batavië. We have also offered to meet bilaterally with officials in Hajr to discuss these issues one on one, to listen, compare thoughts and come to a fair and reasonable compromise. Arguing via bulletins is unproductive. We urge officials in Hajr to accept the Foreign Minister's request for a meeting.

National Congress passes Commonwealth Act

The Fulanistan National Congress has voted 39-21 in favour of the Commonwealth Act, which will dissolve the current Republican Government, and establish a Parliamentary system on Fulani Soil. The debate ran late into the evening last night after it was put on hold until Noon Yesterday. Everyone seems to be optimistic about the bill, however multiple politicians expressed their concern and dissatisfaction. It is reported that several high ranking NOA members have fled the country after the vote, and at least one is known to be heading for Hajr. The only reported public protest took place in the North Axum province city of Yafo, where a small procession took place with multiple people carrying flags of neighboring Axum.

the Government of Akhaltsikhe is horrifically disappointed by the bill passed by the Senate. We hope that the nation of Fulanistan knows who those 31 people are who willingly voted away their independence.
