Escalation of tensions in greater Touyou
AP Shahdara
The Sikandari government, today, broadened the scope of already an already crippling sanctions regime against the Kingdom of Matara by imposing a blanket ban on exports of Sikandari oil to the country due to their alleged human rights violations against the Muslim minority that lives in the country. The announcement comes after a series of tense diplomatic communiques were exchanged as a result of a particularly bloody engagement between border security forces between the two forces, which according to the Sikandari government's report began when Matari border guards sought to use force to prevent asylum seekers from crossing over into Sikandara.
The government of Chancellor Suleymani has stated that they had to take the drastic step of an oil embargo when the Matari government refused to engage with the issue of the oppression of the Muslims in that country. The government's spokesman stated that the Matari government had been informed about the clauses of the embargo statutes which governed the policy and were aware of the possibility of such an action by Sikandara.
Analysts in the know on Matara, have said that they believe that the Sikandari government is trying to weaken the military junta in place in Kampot by discrediting it internationally and seek to restore the royal government under the King's control. Recent tensions between the two countries mark the end of a long period of stability between these two historic rivals in the region. While many in Gallo-Germani fear an open conflict developing between the two nations, both the Matari and Sikandari governments have reasserted their commitment to peace. But the failure of both governments to de-escalate the situation leaves many in doubt.
