Himyari Freedom Alliance Membership?

There have been rumors of Ascalon joining the HFA, a recently formed allaince that aims to unite and stabalize the Himyar Continent. Prime Minister Adelina Moretti has confirmed that members of the Ascalon government are meeting with Fulani and Talemantian officials to discuss joining the alliance.

"We have talked with members of these two governments. Our aim however is to lessen the economic unity that the alliance proposes. There are very different laws between the three of us, and we feel that this makes it immpossible to unify our economies without making certain people very angry. We are all for the lessened travel restrictions between countries, but since guns and all recreational drugs are illegal in Ascalon we feel that we need to search people before they can come into the country. If only to stop smugglers."

Archbishop Vincent Tattiglia has agreed with the government for once. Stating that, "... after counsel with me, the Prime Minister has cleared her head and made a sound decision. We look foward to aiding her and the government every step of the way." It is likely that the Ascaloni-Dominican Army will be the militant sector of support to the HFA, and it is possible that the ADA will aid the Talemantians in the up and coming occupation of 'Jurzan'.

For all of the foriegn readers, the ADA is a private army of some 40,000 sodliers, and a couple thousand tanks and choppers. It is a highly advanced army, using UAVs and sattelite footage. All of which is funded by the Ascaloni Catholic Church.

Should Ascalon continue with its interests in the HFA, it will be considered a hostile enemy of the Jurzani Confederation.

We strongly warn the nation of Ascalon against associating with Talemantine aggression and imperialism.

We fell it important to note that the government has never confirmed future involvment in the occupation of Jurzan. This is merely a possibility noted by the author of this article.

A young man and a young woman appear sitting behind the news desk. The man is the first to speak.

"Welcome to Nightly News with your trusted news source, Dominci News Network. Today's top story, pick pockets and theives on Cruise Lines run wild, while parliament struggles to find solution."

"That's right, tourists cruising in the Mare di Dio have been reporting a staggering amount of theft and in the most serious accounts, rape or battery."

The screen flips to a tourist being interviewed on the beach. The woman is obviously of French bloodline.

"If the cruise lines don't start to do something about the lack of security, Ascalon will cease to be my summer vacation spot. I certainly don't mind if your government puts a few armed guards on the ships."

It then flips to the Prime Minister, Adelina Mangano.

"I have put the motion foward to the House's that each cruise ships have atleast 5 guards on each vessel. I have suggested that the security detail be contracted out to the ADA. Tourism in Calabria and the rest of the coastline is one of the largest contributors to our economy, so we cannot afford to lose it."

The screen flips back to the anchorwomen.

"Bishop Abraham Edona has quoted Parliament the price of the security detail, giving a large discount becuase of his 'concern for Ascalon and the people who come to the Holiest of lands.' While we may be the holiest of lands, tourists certainly don't come to be free of sin. Considering the fact that Calabria boasts the world's largest casino, The Huron."

The anchorman then speaks.

"In other news, Oil prices are raising, which puts a little bit of a strain on Ascaloni wallets, but fortuanately not to much."

The screen flips to Bishop Stweart Huron, who represents the Church's many companies and industries.

"Thankfully, since Ascalon is a large oil producer, we will not have to worry about to high of prices. However, Tattiglia Oil will need to raise its prices a little just to remain competitive on the world market."

The screen goes back to the anchorman.

"That's it for your nightly news at DNN, good night Ascalon, and we will be seeing you tomorow."

After the theme song and logo flash on screen, the camera goes to the familiar face of the male and female anchor of DNN.

"Breaking news! After nearly 250 years of closed borders a new bill is being voted on in Parliament that will allow Muslims and Jews to move into or through the country from Hajr and our other neighbors." gasped the female anchor.

"Of course the bill will still keep the Jurzani border guarded, due to the heavy fighting going on between Talemantine and Jurzani forces. But this is a big step for Ascalon. It will make toruism by Muslims and Jews a possibility, and will open our minds to other ways of thinking. Let's go to Hussein Himmi who is on the Hajr border." spoke the male anchor.

The screen then flips to the Hajr border, where a clearly non-Catholic reporter is on the border.

"Thank you, as you can clearly see, the troops are setting up regular checkpoints instead of just obvious military presence. They will still check the people coming into the country for illegal substances or weapons, but people will no longer have to prove that they are not Muslim or Jewish. There are some protestors present here, not wanting the country to be flooded with Muslims or Jews."

The screen goes back to the male anchor.

"Here is some footage of an exclusive interview with Bishop Huron who had some great things to say about this new law."

The screen goes to the 84 year old Bishop.

"I personally do not believe that this law will upset our Ascaloni way of life. Honestly no Jew or Muslim is going to want to live in this country, it merely makes things easier for people traveling across Himyar. Muslims or Jews traveling across will no longer have to take a huge detour through dangerous territories just to get across. This will also make sure we keep the economic stability we boast, while a few countries are struggling from the oil crisis. "

The screen goes to the female anchor.

"In other news Ascalon continues to wait for talks with the two senior members of the Himyari Freedom Alliance. The purpose of the talks will be to discuss Ascalons pending membership, as well as fixing certain 'problems' with the alliances charter."

"Well thats all the time we have for this DNN Morning Edition. Have a good day Ascalon, and a good Mass." said the male anchor as the cameras pulled away and the theme music began to play again.

Pope dies, nation in mourning

On the 23rd of August a event occured which has rocked the Catholic world. Pope Marcus Clemens II passed away. Archbishop Vincent Tattiglia and a large number of other church officials went to The Papal States to attend his funeral. The nation has been in mourning along with The Papal States, all Ascaloni flags in the country have been momentarily replaced with black flags, and are half raised. Prime Minister Adelina Mangano was one of the only government officials who did not leave teh country to attend the country. In her defence she had a short press conference in which she said,

"Somebody has to stay and run Ascalon while the majority of our government is in the Papal States. By staying I mean no dis-respect, and have entered a state of mourning myself. I wish I could go, but the sad fact of the matter is that I cannot."

The tourists in the country were slightly dissapointed by the general state of depression, and many have begun to leave. This will not affect the economy very much, since the tourism season is coming to a close anyway.

Ascaloni-Dominican Army, becoming Ascaloni Army

The ADA, which has been a mercenary army managed by the Catholic CHurch of Ascalon, is being converted into the nations actual military. This is actually excellent for Ascalon, seeing as the ADA is more modern than our old military ever was. Now that the ADA is managed by the government, the government wasted no time in ordering a HUGE amount of weapons from two different countries.

Over 50,000 rifles, and 15,000 machine guns from The Commandry, along with a large amount of armored vehciles, Anti-aircraft guns, artillery, and UAVs from Weise*. The Church extremists are freaking out now, becuase they think that the State is becoming more powerful than the Church is. I for one, don't see whats wrong with that. There are certain laws that the Church is supporting and keeping, that simply don't make sense. The ban on Marijuana is ridiculous, and the 60% alcohol tax is OUTRAGEUOS!! We need more freedom! If the Church zealots don't want to by weed or beer, than they don't have to! But why do we have to suffer for there choices?

In other news, the oil company that controls all the oil in Ascalon, Dominci Oil (big surprise, managed by the Church), is re-naming itself Ascaloni Oil, as it opens its doors to foriegn investment. The oil rich Mare di Dio (Sea of God) to our south has been supplying Ascalon with oil for years, and now we can make some money off the excess. 'Bout time.

The theme music plays, and the DNN logo flashes on screen. The camera then goes to the anchor desk, with the familiar faces of the male and female anchor team. As usual the man is the first to speak.

"Violence erupts in Cenetis, with two terrorist attacks in just one week. Prime Minister Adelina Mangano states that the Ceneti-Ascalon border will have increased military presence. But ensures that this is not a threat to the Cenetian government."

The screen shows the Prime Minister, she is at a press conference in the footage.

"We don't want the Cenetians to misunderstand our actions. We are merely making sure that the Pan-Uroduah Federation or the Red Alliance do not decide to operate within Ascaloni borders. Already the Pan-Uroduah Federation has 'expressed it's concerns' about our Senior Membership in the Himyari Freedom Alliance."

The screen goes back to the anchors. This time the female anchor speaks.

"In other news, The Ascaloni Catholic Church is locked in a bidding war with two large german investment groups over the Aurum Umbazi gold company. While official figures have not been released, rumours are going around that the top bid has reached a whopping $14 billion."

On every channel in Ascalon the DNN logo and theme quickly flash, going to solely the male news anchor.

"We interrupt your scheduled broadcasting to bring you a special report. Prime Minister Adelina Mangano has gone against the Ascaloni Catholic Church, and has responded to the Jurzani with words of anger and hate. She may have thrown us into the Jurzani conflict, which Archbishop Tattiglia has repeatedly warned us against. Hopefully the situation can be repaired before Jurzani guerrillas open fire at our borders. Nevertheless, two whole new brigades have been sent to the border. We encourage all citizens near the Jurzani border to report any activity or noises that sound like combat or look suspicious. That is all."

The news logo flashes and the theme music plays. It goes to the male anchor.

"Breaking news, Prime Minister Adelina Mangano hospitalized! After a terrorist attacked the Halls of Parliament, the Prime Minister fell two stories and was crushed by the stone walls of the building. She is in critical condition and is in Mercy Hospital in Ashkalon. The doctors report that she has had three different fractures in her spine, and a severe concussion. Tack those along with the hundreds of broken bones and its a miracle she is alive."

Next the female anchor speaks.

"It is believed that Ms. Mangano's threatening messages to Jurzan is the cause of this attack. A guard was found at the perimeter of the complex with three different nine millimeter bullets in him. This terrorist was prepared."

Then the male anchor speaks again.

"Parliament is currently voting on who will be Mangano's replacement whether temporary of permanent. So far Father Huron is winning by a landslide over MP Ressari. Huron has stated that if he wins, he will guarantee peace with the Jurzani."

The male anchor is once again solo, signaling that this was an unscheduled broadcast.

"Hello and welcome to yet another update on the current political situation in Ascalon. It has been confirmed that 3/5s of parliament have elected Bishop Stewart Huron as the new emergency Prime Minister. He shall remain the Prime minister until either Ms. Mangano gets better, or until her term was scheduled to end, which is in about 4 1/2 years. Bishop Huron ha sbeen busy trying to mend the situation between Jurzan and Ascalon."

The screen goes to the new Prime Minister.

"I swear to the Ascaloni people before the eyes of God, I will bring peace to our nation. Already I have ordered an investigation on the attack on the Halls of Parliament, and will decrease our troop presence near the Jurzani border. Just because we are allies with Talemantine does not mean we have to involve ourselves in their war."

The screen goes back to the male anchor.

"The Domestic Investigation Force has announced that currently the terrorist who was responsible for the attack is dead. It is believed that he is from the state of Cordoba, and may have been hired to do the job from the normally peaceful Movimiento separatista para un Independiente Cordoba. They are beginning to investigate the organization. The other belief is that it could have simply been a citizen worried for Ascalon's safety."

As the male anchor was talking, the screen was going through pictures of the north-east corner of the building, which was completely destroyed.

"Things don't look good for Ms. Mangano, whose condition has not improved. She can't breathe for herself, or show any signs of consciousness whatsoever. Her heart is still beating, but her brain is showing very low levels of activity. I fear that by this time tomorrow I will be telling you all new of her death... Well that is all we have time for. But, we make sure to keep you all updated.

Fulani Government Pushing For Peace!

The supreme court of Fulanistan, a signatory power of the HFA, has announced that it is declaring the war against the Jurzani illegal and advising the executive government to make peace with the Jurzani. Prime Minister Huron* was overjoyed by the news;

"This is the great news I have been waiting to hear. It seems that we didn't even have to pressure our allies to stop the war, because they are already starting to do so! I would like to take this opportunity to declare that I view Jurzani as the official and legal government of the former Akhaltishke territories."

*Thats right you read correctly fellow citizens of Ascalon. Doctors have confirmed that Ms. Mangano will not make it, and are going to pull the plug tomorrow.

MP Martin Contreras off to Gorno-Altai!

The parliament member Cordoba, Martin Contreras, is visiting the Democratic Republic of Gorno-Altai this week to discuss a possible free trade deal.

"We are hoping to lift the tariffs on Ascaloni oil inside Gorno-Altai, as well as buy a contract from them that will allow their engineers to come in and build a better public transportation system, which the Gorno's are famous for. A deal such as this would be prosperous for both our countries, and I am honored that the new Prime Minister has chosen me for this job."

Tribute to Adelina Mangano

Today we pay tribute to the now deceased Prime Minister, Adelina Mangano. Her funeral was today, and was private. Only a few close friends and family came, which is how she wanted it.

Adelina was 41 years of age, having grown up in Ashkalon.. She was born into a devout Catholic family, who sadly died in a car accident when she was only 12. After her father and mother's deaths, she was put into the Ashkalon Cathedral's orphanage, where Archbishop Vincent Tattiglia took a liking to her. He helped to raise her, and supported her when she displayed politics as her career choice.

She became the Parliament member for Terra della Vergine*, in 1993, and became Prime Minister in the year 2005. She was responsible for many great laws, including the Toleration Act of 2010, which allowed Muslims and Jews to live and travel through Ascalon. She did wonders for the Catholic, and non-Catholic community.

Her death sadly, was a violent one. An IED went off, and crushed her under the stone walls of the NE corner of the Parliament building. There are a lot of rumors flying around about who was responsible for her death. Ranging from Hispanic Separatists in Cordoba, to a Catholic Church assassin. The new Prime Minister, Bishop Stewart Huron, has sworn to find the culprits and bring them to justice. Saying that she, 'Was a good friend of mine. She was like a niece to me, and the two of us had grown quite close throughout the years, The world is worse off without her bright and pure soul.'
