Hello and welcome to CPB evening news.

Todays head story: the Commissariate for Economic Planning announced today that over the past few months the overproduction of marihuana cigarettes has reached the level of 8 million pieces. All cigarettes are produced by Yuka Cigarettes WO. which commented on the issue by urging the Commissariate to find consumers or else the cigarretes currently filling up the storages of the company will have to be destroyed, meaning a net loss of thousands of working hours, as well as uncounted amounts of raw ressources and energy that went into the production.

While production has been reduced by now and several hemp fields throughout Carentania will be converted to grow rare vegetables, the Commissariate said a meaningful distribution of the overproduction may pose more of a problem. No one in the Commissariate wanted to urge citizens to smoke more - in fact the Commissariate for Health continued it plead to the people of Carentania, to try and stop smoking as it causes cancer and may lead to a psychosis. At the same time, finding a foreign customer for 8 million marihuana cigarettes may become an impossible task, even at considerably cheaper prices than usual - most countries have outlawed the consumption of marihuana.

Carentania has produced marihuana cigarettes with the Yuka brand since the 1920s. Facing hostility from the traditional tobacco producing countries and unable to grow considerable amounts domestically, the Commissariate for Economic Planning presented the Carentanian citizens with marihuana cigarettes as a cheap, easily produced alternative. Nowadays the Yuka marihuana cigarette is the most commonly smoked one in Carentania, with tobacco products being a rare and rationed goods. However, the Yuka cigarette can not be compared to marihuana traded illegally in foreign countries, which often consists of specially grown cultures with extraordinarily high THC percentages - while Carentania uses a mild variety of indian hemp, perfectioned over the last 80 years.

In other news we will hear from the Union of Communist Workers, which just recently announced its support for the socialist candidate in the mayor race for Talemantros capital. Speaking to the press, the organization said that, albeit critical of participation in bourgeoise democracies, this election presents a chance to spread socialist values in our southern neighbour and combat the autocratic rule that currently resides over the nation.

Hello and welcome to CPB evening news.

Todays head story: the Union of Communist Workers, Carentanias biggest labor union, has joined the campaigning for the next All-Workers Congress. During the half-yearly gathering of delegates from all Worker Councils in Carentania, the UCW wishes to see a resolution passed that would put diplomatic rapprochement with Kryobaijan and Volga on the political agenda of the Commissariate for Foreign Affairs. A passing of this resolution would force the Commissar to approach both socialist states and seek cooperation in the fields of diplomacy, economy and perhaps even defence.

The UCW, which is considered such a heavyweight in Carentanian politics that the measure is likely to pass, explained their decision with the recent changes in Kryobaijan, where Intersectionalists overthrow the old, beuraucratic and pseudo-socialist regime - and with the status of Volga, which adheres to democratic standards even in the face of a constant Oikawan threat and has refused to this day to join the authoritarian communist and anti-revolutionary IRB. To this day, the UCW argues, Carentania has failed to take its responsibilities as oldest socialist state in Europe seriously and has left the stage of international communist solidarity to "imposters and traitors".

A subtle change in the common opinion of Carentanians could prove important during the next All-Workers Congress. During the recent years, analysts claim, Carentanians have begun to realize the need for a more proactive foreign policy. Carentania, isolated on the international stage, has throughout the past decades concentrated on the construction of a stable and prospering society. Ironically, the analysts argue, the very same behaviour that has kept Carentania out of trouble for more than 60 years now and allowed for the relative wealth we enjoy now, is now endangering the future existance of this system, as Carentania runs out of ressources and is facing global problems much the same as any other country.

"Issues like the recent anti-communist offensive in many countries, the constant fascist threat in Europe, but also problems like mass migration caused by poverty and global warming can only be faced with strong friends at our side," a UCW spokesperson commented. Both Kryobaijan and Volga have yet to comment on the possibility of a rapproachment and a "no" coming from either country at this point could easily mean the deathblow for the resolution. The Commissar for Foreign Affairs meanwhile announced, he will vote in favour of the issue and happily meet with Volgan and Kryobaijani counterparts when the proposal gathers a majority.

In other news: IRB makes a kotau to LFS authorities by announcing it will allow fascist military officials to supervize the planned strategic manouvers in Vangala, allowing the mezhevist League of Free States to gather information about combat strenght, equipment, training levels and strategies of the authoritarian socialist alliance. Carentanian Commissars call this decision a sign of "weakness" and a "terrible setback in the joint efforts of all free Europeans to stop the spread of Mezhevism in Europe."

The authorities of the Carentanian government would do best to note the fact that the IRB is open to any and all socialist nations, whether totalitarian, authoritarian, democratic, or libertarian. The IRB recognizes the fact that culture and national history affect the strain of socialism that will rise in a nation.

"We believe a united and varied socialist front is far more powerful than a splintered and fragmented left ever could be. The day when socialists fight each other because of petty disagreements instead of engaging in dialog is the day the left has fallen before reactionary forces. It is best to engage in diplomacy with all socialists, regardless of whether or not they be authoritarian, than to attempt to destroy them because the ruling government disagrees with their way of running things. It is shameful that the Carentanians have isolated themselves from the left over such petty disagreements when they have trumpeted freedom and tolerance in their society. It is clear through their interactions with other socialists that the Carentanian reality is quite different."

Socialism is the struggle against each and any conditions wherein a human is an enslaved being strapped of its pride and self-determination. The notion of "totalitarian" or "authoritarian" Socialism is therefore a self-contradiction. Socialism is the struggle against any form of authoritarian rule.

Even when confronted with the naked truth by fellow Reds, that socialism will fall because of its refusal to unite, Carentania refuses to open its eyes and see the feeble and ultimately doomed struggle it puts up against its fellow Reds along with the civilized nations of the world.

And even if, by some miracle, they realize their mistake, it would not be enough. The Reds, while still a threat, will always remain divided, if not in goals and ideology, in geography and strategy, be it political or military, and they will, in the end, be crushed under the heel of the free.

Sincerely,

The screen remains dark. A voice from the off, an elderly man, can be heard.

"Back in the early days, right after the revolution, we were confident the world would turn to Socialism within few years. Thoughts that had been crazy daydreams just months ago were suddenly considered a realistic chance after revolution had spread across the globe. In the following decade, however, this bright optimism was pushed aside by the horrible tyranny that socialism in Kyiv had become. And throughout my life, I had to see this desaster be repeated in any country that chose to go down the road of Party-Communism."

With instrumental music filling the background, the screen begins to brighten up and across the picture of a waving, yet rugged red flag, the title of the documentary appears.

"Two Communism - a history of the split within the socialist movement."

Then, as the screen switches from title to moving pictures - black white footage of the early days of the Kyivan revolution - a new voice, clean and easily understandable, can be heard.

"Kyiv, much like Carentania, experienced a massive uprising in the second decade of the 20th century. The impoverished, disenfranchised population was quick to put the old regime to an end and hopes were high that Socialism could be built quickly. But while Carentania proceeded to install a system of radical democracy, egalitarian fairness and an economy that managed to do without money and trade, the Kyivan state devolved into terror and torture, persecution of opposition to the ruling elite and quickly became a fullblown dictatorship.

The question remains. What caused these different developements. Why did Carentania manage to build up a 90 year old history of radical democracy and Socialism, while Kyiv turned into an oppressive beuraucracy that should later be removed only to make way for a fascist government that is about just as bad? Was it just coincidence? Or perhaps the Kyivans made faults? Maybe it can be tied to the Kyivan tyrants and their personality? Was it their greed for power?"

The black-white picturesa re replaced by a modern recording of a bruised man. Blind on one eye, his face scarred and disfigured. He is sitting on a chair and the viewer can see his right hand is just a clump of meat without any fingers on it. In a broken voice he begins to speak.

"It was the Meribian leaders birthday, 2005, when the came to my home. I had been sick, so I had stayed at home, but the police visited me, confronting me with my unwillingness to pay tribute to our dear leader. Then they saw that I had a foreign book on my couch table. They brought me to a prison somewhere in the city, I don't know where. Broke my fingers, hit me in the face, cut me... They attached wires to my testicles and electricuted me. They poured acid into my right eye. I was almost dead when they finally released me and it's a wonder I could escape and come here. If I had any family in Meribia left, they would be dead by now."

The documentaries commentator once again speaks:

"Throughout its history, Socialism has failed to achieve its promises of a free and egalitarian society many times. The list of countries that were born in a communist revolution, yet turned to brutal dictatorships, is long, reaching from Kyiv and Jizhou to Batavie, Cyrillica and Meribia. Only few countries managed to avoid this fate in a similiar way as Carentania did. The question remains, what is so radically different between these revolutions that it yeilds so radically different results.

Political scientists believe subtle differences in ideology and approach to revolution to be the reason. They point to the fact that all these failed worker states have one thing in common: they adhere to Party-Communism, while Carentania is dominated by Council-Communism. It is a historical split between two communist movements that developed in the wake of the early socialist revolutions, paying tribute to the fact that Carentanian Communists were unwilling to support a revolution in Kyiv that caused the Kyivan workers to suffer.

Party-Communism is, just like Council-Communism, a marxist communism that strives to achieve a classless society. Its goal is to build up a state by the people for the people that seeks to reorganize society until Communism becomes reality. But while the goals are the same, the means are different. Party-Communist believe their organizations to be Vanguard Parties, elites of the Working Class that have the duty to lead the people through the Revolution and into Socialism. Vanguard Parties are elitarian and militant organizations that take any means necessary to overthrow capitalism in a country, while Council-Communists organize in large mass movements, usually Labor Unions. Both approaches have proven to be able to organize a revolutionary movement that ends bourgeoise rule.

But where Council-Communist movements organized Worker Councils and a democratic system, Vanguard Parties had and have the tendency to usurp power. They put their people under tutelage and decide for them what is right and wrong. And more importantly, they tolerate no opposition. Their revolutionary militancy quickly turns into violence towards their own people as the Vanguard Party strives to maintain its position of power. The militaristic organization of a Vanguard Party turns into an authoritarian system of oppression. Time and time again, this course of action has repeated itself in many different countries.

Once this transformation from revolutionary to authoritarian movement is complete - usually after removing any opposition to the changes through violent measures, purges and a secret police - the supposedly socialist state closely resembles a fascist system. The resemblance is uncanny and it brings up the question as to why and how. But it is easily explained if we look at the conditions under which both Party-Socialism and Fascism seek to maintain their power. Fascism, being a violent bourgeoise reaction to the threat of socialist revolution, is installed to combat a powerful working class movement and has to deal with the threat of a massive popular uprising. Total control, terror and systematic violence, paired with lies and propaganda are the means that can keep an entire people in check. Party-Socialism has to deal with exactly the same conditions, even worse, in their case the Workers' Movement was already succesful in overthrowing an entire state. The difference being, of course, that their leaders are part of the very same movement and not part of the bourgeoisie. But just as the fascists, they have to defend their position against a broad movement of organized workers with a high level of political education and the strong will to change their lot in life for the better, by any means necessary.

It's not surprising that Council-Communists have refused to cooperate with Party-Communists. This dispute is not a childish one about details of a movement, it is not an overblown reaction to minor difference or an argument about who has the better ideas when both sides actually want the same. It is a serious issue about the enslavement and murder of millions. It is a consequent refusal to deal with those that are part of the structures they claim to attack.

Especially the International Revolutionary Bloc, the alliance of Europe's Party-Communists, has constantly attacked Carentania for its refusal to cooperate with the IRB. The IRB ideology is based on the thought that "it's all Socialism" and all Communists should be tolerant towards differences in the individual structures. IRB ideologues claim, that Socialism will develope differently in each country, democratic in some, authoritarian in others. The most interesting part is, that this is completely different from the usually accepted idea of national differences being only a minor factor. Communism and the Working Class Movement as a whole have always relied on the fact that Capitalism has created comparable situations throughout the world, that the class division is the same in every country and that Communism can therefore be achieved regardless of differences.

Of course, the IRB ideology was never about a realistic, coherent and consequent approach to Socialism. The IRB is an inherently reactionary organization, as its willingness to befriend any nation, even capitalist and fascist ones, proves. Peace, the IRB claims, is what is aims for, but it is even willing to sacrifice the people in the capitalist world for their own security. The IRB has made Socialism teethless and weak. So weak, that a new wave of repression against the left hits the communist movement without any resistance to the constant attacks.

Party-Communism, that much has become clear, is not Communism at all."

The documentary concludes with pictures of Batavian policemen shooting dissidents.

The Politburo has unanimously voted to harshly condemn the makers of this film. Batavian policeman could never have shot so-called 'dissidents', of which there are far and few, as Batavian policeman do not carry firearms when on duty. Clearly this film has been heavily doctored and altered to warp the impressionable and feeble minds of the enslaved Carentanians. It is a shame that this has happened. Clearly, Carentania will continue to remain an isolated and dilapidated state should it stay on its current course towards inevitable destruction.

Good night,

my name is Elena Kos and you are watching the Late Night Talk. Here with me today is Primož Kocbek, expert for Wazistan employed by the Commissariate for Foreign Affairs. Kocbek has spent several years in the Carentanian embassy in Wazistan and nowadays works as advisor to the Commissar in Rijeka. He is considered one of the most knowledgeable persons in this country when it comes to Wazistani politics and will today answer us a few questions in regards to the Kurdish revolts.

Mr. Kocbek, can you in a few words describe the situation of Kurds in Wazistan?

There is a general discrimination by the state and the arab population. Kurdish people get lower wages for the same work, their access to education is restricted in numerous ways, infrastructure in predominantly Kurdish regions is less well maintained by the state. Furthermore, there are constant violent attacks on Kurdish people, both by the radical political right and the police. The recent murdering of a Kurdish student is only the tip of the iceberg.

So this incident has merely set free a potential of malcontent and anger about the situation that had been bottled up for years?

Yes, exactly.

Who are the main actors in the revolt?

Kurdish youths with no affiliation to organized political groups at all. It is a very direct expression of rage and an attempt by those affected from the discrimination and violence to defend themselves and strike back against a state that has been responsible for so many crimes against a whole group of people. The rioters follow no political agenda - other than to end the injustice done against them.

And the Kurdish Social Party?

I am sure they will be quick to utilize the potential that has shown itself here. If the government does not give in and tries to appease the Kurdish youths - and currently there is nothing that would indicate such a course of events - those who participated in the revolts will begin to realize the need for a long-term perspective. And if the government attempts a violent crackdown, this will only radicalize the Kurdish youth and spur a growth of the militia forces.

Other Kurdish groups have expressed their fears the events may lead to a massive persecution campaign against Kurdish people and the political left in Wazistan. They have called upon the youths to cease the rioting.

With such statements the different political groups risk alienating young Kurds from their organizations. The participants in the revolts feel that these groups "lack the spine" to defend themselves or that even worse, they are priviledged and do not share the same fate of poverty and violence as the majority of Kurdish people. This will leave the KSP as only option for the rioters.

But what about the prospect of a violent crackdown? Is that unrealistic?

It is completely realistic and the most likely course of events, sadly. However, violence against the political opposition has been a constant in the Wazistani central government ever since Zubani was made President. What these Kurdish groups that call upon the rioters to stop really achieve is, to make the policies of fear and terror work. The murdering of the Kurdish student was a violent attack on the Kurdish opposition, not reacting to such an attack would only give birth to the believe that the government and the Bahji Militias can get away with everything.

So you support the revolts?

Wholeheartedly. They have dealt an amazing blow to the Wazistani government, especially if you consider they are just ordinary people. I sincerely hope for the Kurdish people to achieve their goals and regain their rights as humans.

That's all we wanted to know. Thank you for answering my questions.

Thank you as well.

Good evening and welcome to the CPB news special about the 181st All-Workers Congress.

With the first day of Congress having ended, the many thousand delegates from all over the country look back to intense debates and fateful decisions. The big topic of today was foreign policy, especially in the light of the threat of a ressource shortage in Carentania, but also of a global anti-communist offensive that is taking place in many countries. Carentania, that is the conclusion of the delegates, needs to break with its largely isolationist policies of the past if it wishes to persist.

Many delegates expressed their disappointment that it has taken Carentania so long to realize that it can't operate completely independent of foreign politics. And especially in the light of its duty as socialist country, to commit itself to international solidarity, several speakers have declared that it is shameful for a country like Carentania to need to be affected by a threatening ressource shortage, to stop ignoring its comrades throughout Europe. To this other delegates replied by pointing to the fact that Carentania as a state is not all that makes up Carentania. "The fact that the Carentanian state remained passive does not mean Carentania remained passive," a speaker from the Union of Communist Workers said and pointed to the fact that his labor union has always supported other Council-Communists throughout Europe.

The debates resulted in a resolution which orders the next Commissar for Foreign Affairs - the elections will be on Monday - to take a more active foreign policy and to offer Carentanias support to those in Europe, who share its vision of a free and egalitarian society. This especially affects Kryobaijan and Volga, which a surprisingly large majority voted in favor of rapproaching. Both countries will have to be offered talks and in both cases the Commissar will have to offer at least low level cooperation as a first step towards a lasting friendship. The choice of Kryobaijan and Volga was thoroughly debated and in either case, there have been deep reasonings behind the decision.

Kryobaijan, the delegates concluded, has turned from the "dead-end of Party-Communism" to one of the most promising countries in the socialist world, as the Intersectionalists have taken control of the state. Their willingness to reforms has to be supported and our critical solidarity extended to the Kryobaijanis, despite and perhaps even because of continued disagreements over certain policies of the Kryobaijani state. Both their announced market reforms and their continued alignment with the IRB has to be seen in the light of realpolitics, as Kryobaijan, bordering a LFS state and still facing internal upheaval, needs safety and stability right now. "We can change Kryobaijan if we extend our hands in friendship, if we offer them a future they can have if only they walk the path of freedom," as one speaker put it.

In the case of Volga, it was especially the threat of a Životinjan invasion which causes the delegates to extend Carentanis support to the country. Carentania, so the the conclusion of the delegates, is the only country really capable of contributing to the security of Volga, as it is the only country close enough to Volga to support it, while at the same time being developed enough to do so and in a safe enough position to be able to risk it. Furthermore, the delegates decided, Volgas democratic standards have to be protected against authoritarian influences and the rights of the Volgan population be guarantueed against the threat of a Volga that is aligning itself with the IRB.

After a long break following the tiring debates around the rapproachment proposal, the Internationalist Forum stepped forward with its proposal for the establishing of an "European Revolutionary Academy." The proposal passed with a narrow majority after several slight changes have been made to the resolution. In its final version, the academy will be an institution located in Rijeka which offers scholarships to left-wing activists from all over Europe. These scholarships allow the activists to study in several fields, from basic socialist theory over history lessons and economics to more practical training in campaigning activities that have proven efficient over the course of several decades, such as rallying, the production of leaflets, but also internet security.

Worries that foreign powers may see this academy as support of terrorism where answered by removing any kind of military training from the programme - initially the Internationalist Forum wanted to offer scholarships for training with the Revolutionary Army to activists in countries who face military persecution. However, rejecting the academy alltogether was out of question in the eyes of many delegates "as long as organized Workers throughout Europe face repression and a reactionary establishment."

Tomorrow the All-Workers Congress will continue with the issue of the Vrbas Kraj, proposals for solidarity with the Talemantric socialist movement, a demand for condemnation of Wazistans policy regarding the Kurdish minority, a resolution regarding the possible construction of a tar-sands refinery and several other smaller issues, until then, on Monday, the Congress will conclude with the elections of the Commissars.

The Kryobaijani government looks forward to cooperation with our Carentanian comrades. The new, post-KCP foreign policy of the USSK is still under review, and we are still considering Kryobaijani alliance participation and bilateral ties with other leftist nations. However, the Carentanian government should rest assured that they will always be close friends of the Kryobaijani people.

Good evening and welcome to the CPB news special about the 181st All-Workers Congress.

The second day of Congress has finished and all major issues, except for the election of the Commissars which is scheduled for tomorrow, have been adressed by now. Right now, we can say that the 181st All-Workers Congress may become a decisive turning point in Carentanian history, as it symbolizes a break with the isolationist policies that have dominated the politics of our country ever since the end of the Carentanian-Levantine war in 1943. With the steady growth of the last decades threatened by ressource shortages and an anti-communist offensive throughout Europe, foreign politics dominated the Congress and most resolutions have aimed at steering the Workers' Republic to a more active foreign policy.

As its first issue today, the Congress adressed a classic that has been part of every session for a few years now: the continued claim on the Vrbas Kraj as a rightful part of our country. The Vrbas Kraj, a piece of land south of the Vrbas river which marks the current border with Talemantros, was occupied by Talemantros in 1929 and Carentania forced to secede it in a Levantine brokered peace treaty. Liberal Socialists, who want to come to terms with our southern neighbour and improve relations, have proposed - once again - to abolish claims on the territory. With a 2 to 1 majority, this was rejected. In the final resolution it says that "As long as Talemantros remains a reactionary state, the Vrbas Kraj remains rightfully Carentanian." Accusations of nationalism were rejected by the delegates who stated that "The Vrbas Kraj, as a rightfully Carentanian county, can return to Socialism by returning to Carentania, while the rest of Talemantros will first have to experience a revolution for this."

As the debate had already shifted to Talemantine politics, the Congress adressed a proposal for a declaration of solidarity with the Talemantine Socialists next. Controversy was caused by the fact that the Talemantine socialists which this declaration was aimed at were participating in an election for mayor of the Talemantine capital. Critics argued that this constituted an acknowledgement of the bourgeoise system and those actions were thus contradicting the goal of a socialist revolution. Supporters of the resolution however made a strong point by informing the Congress about the current situation in Talemantros, the repressive environment for the political left and the persecution of socialist factions. The political activity of socialist groups, they argued, was not a normal thing for Talemantine citizens and this election could open the door for extra-parliamentary groups as well. Following the debate, a majority of the delegates voted in favor of a statement of support for the socialist candidate in the election for mayor of Talemaniki.

After lunch break, the Congress issued several statements after short debates. Quickly condemning the continued occupation of Jizhou and eastern Volga, counter-revolutionary violence and human rights violations in a number of countries, including Serbovia and Meribia, as well as a condemnation of the violence against protesting Kurdish youths in Wazistan. Demands for official and material support of opposition groups in either of these countries failed to reach a majority, as delegates expressed their fears of armed conflict over such interventions and furthermore declared that "this is not the duty of a state. It is the duty of us as individuals and our respective political groups to aid their comrades throughout Europe."

A proposal for cooperation with the International Revolutionary Bloc brought forward by a number of orthodox marxists was laughed down at Congress. The delegates immediately proceeded to pass a resolution that states that "cooperation with the authoritarian and oppressive International Revolutionary Bloc remains out of question." The resolution attacks the lack of democratic standards in IRB member states, the open cooperation with capitalist and fascist states, the assaults on worker rights in the economic zone of the bloc and its lack of socialist conviction, expressed in an ideology that reduces Socialism to a mere term without any content. Carentania officially warns other socialist states in this resolution that joining the International Revolutionary Bloc will have grave consequences for their relations with the Workers' Republic.

Economically, the Congress largely decided on "business as usual". Even a resolution that aimed to stop the plans for refining tar-sands to provide a new source of fossil fuels for traffic in Carentania failed to achieve a majority. Concerns over environmental damage caused by such a facility were rejected as "overblown" and "out of proportions". The delegates showed themselves satisfied with the low demand of fuel within Carentania while acknowledging the need for a minimum amount to provide those parts of traffic that can't be integrated into the public transit system. Carentania, they argued, consumes substantially less fuel than any capitalist country with a comparable standard of living, while abandoning the tar-sands plans would mean, that fuel had to be imported - from capitalist corporations. "Those have very low environmental standards," a speaker argued shortly before the Congress concluded for today.

This leaves only one day for the 181st All-Workers Congress and the only issues left on the schedule are the elections of the Commissars.

Hello and welcome to CPB with breaking news.

Reports from the border to the Levantine States have just reached us, that apparantly shots were fired from Barca at a Carentanian border post. The Revolutionary Army currently keeps the area sealed tightly with the support of the responsible local Workers Council and no detailed information is available thusfar. However, additional soldiers have been brought into the area and it seems that air defences in the area have been placed at alert, indicating that the Commissariate for Defence may not completely rule out an attack by Levantine forces.

This would constitute a breach of the 1943 non-agression treaty that was signed in the wake of the failed Levantine attack on Carentania. In the last sixty years, the Levantine States have respected the agreement and there are strong doubts that now suddenly, they would breach it. Furthermore, many believe that a Levantine attack would not consist in only a few shots being fired across the border before falling silent again. Military command refused to comment on the issue, but a probing attack is not entirely out of question as the military reaction shows.

According to foreign relations experts however, an attack by Mezhevist Carentanian expatriates in Barca seems more likely. The anti-communist ideology has many followers among the slavic population in the Barca suburbs in general and a high percentage of them are Carentanian emigrants or their descendants, who left our country following the revolution. Many anti-communist Carentanian nationalists approve of violence against the Workers' Republic and their institutions and through organized crime could easily gain access to the weapons to undertake such an attack.

While the Commissariate for Defence and the Revolutionary Army remain silent on this theory as well, the Commissariate for Foreign Relations has released a comment in which it says that Carentania will approach Levantine authorities to clarify the situation and, if the Levantine States bear no responsibility, to demand their cooperation in persecuting the perpetrators. What, however, the reaction of Carentania would be if the Levantine States were indeed responsible for the firefight, the Commissar did not want to say either.

And even whether or not there was anyone hurt as a consequence of the shootings, the army did not yet wish to comment on, leaving Carentanians dependant on rumours and speculations. Once the initial chaos of the situation has come under control, the Commissar for Defence said, a report will be released to the public. But right now, he said, the danger of spreading misinformations is too big.

We will keep you informed.

Border Police, the Carthaginian, Barcan and Federal Police and Intelligence Services have started to investigate what has happened and will inform Carentanian authorities of what the results are. We strongly deny the presence of any large groups of armed anti-communist groupings within our borders.

Concurring with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Levantine States, the prospects of an armed mob roaming the streets in protest to an armed nation of Communist Cronies is of course worth intensive investigations. How it is a population of civilians could take issue with Carentania and its robust ideology is positively earth shattering, it is almost as if a free minded group of liberty lovin' vigilantes might be acting in an organized manner to actively protest an oppressive form of Government across the border. We demand that someone gets to the bottom of this disastrous display of free action, and free speech, and that all findings be made public for all to see.

Whether you agree or disagree with the way your neighbourcountry is ruled, firing shots towards your neighbourcountry while standing near the border is a reason for the neighbourcountry to feel alarmed. We hope that the Levantine authorities will be able to find the people who did so.

Hello and welcome to CPB evening news.

Todays head story: the Carentanian League has claimed responsibility for the attack on a border patrol near Barca four days ago. During the attack, one soldier of the Revolutionary Army was hurt by bullets fired from the Levantine side of the border, causing tension between Carentania and the Levantine States as it initially remained unclear who had fired the shots. The army has by now returned the area to normal security levels and the soldier who was hit a 7,62mm bullet fired most likely by a Levantine assault rifle.

The Carentanian League is a mezhevist terrorist group most active within Carentanian expatriates. It's ideology is almost identical to the one of the original Mezhevist Party of the 1920's and combines strong anti-communism with authoritarian thought, racist nationalism and the approval of violence. Of all mezhevist groups, the Carentanian League is believed to be the most orthodox and dogmatic, rejecting even the notion of pan-slavism which is common in other mezhevist organizations.

This attack marks the end of almost a year of complete silence in which the Carentanian League was almost believed to have dissolved. Operating largely from the Levantine city of Barca, it is very hard to gain any informations about size, organization or capabilities of the league as Levantine authorities continue to deny the existance of armed groups of slavic nationalists within their borders and have not shown any real interest in finding those responsible for several terrorist attacks on the Workers' Republic.

Attacks like the last one, entirely conducted from foreign soil, are considered to be a display of weakness of the mezhevist movement and the Commissars have urged citizens in Carentania to remain calm. There is no need to fear another wave of mezhevist terrorism as in the 1950's, experts claim, as Carentania has developed effective measures to deny Mezhevists a foothold within its territory. The effectivity of said measures is proven by the fact that all terrorist groups are operating from foreign territory, experts stated.

The Commissariate for Foreign Affairs has issued a statement, saying it requests the help of the Levantine States in bringing these criminals to justice. Few, however, believe the Levant will answer this call.

Good night,

my name is Elena Kos and you are watching the Late Night Talk. Here with me today is Bojana Nemec, a professor in historical sciences teaching at the Ivan Sorokin University in Rijeka. Her fiel of expertise is the history of the working class movement and Mrs. Nemec is considered a leading expert on the developement of seperate socialist ideologies. Tonight she will analyze the recent publications of the Cyrillican government for us.

Mrs. Nemec, can you give us a quick overview of what happened?

Cyrillica is a Party-Communist led country in northern Europe. It is very agrarian and industrially underdeveloped an its current leader, Victor Engels, has recently undertaken a campaing to change this fact with help of the IRB. To emphasize on the changes that Cyrillica is now going through, but also to stabilize his own position of power, he has published a manifesto declaring his current political stance a seperate, or rather, the one true way of Socialism.

And what are the qualities of this ideology?

Engelism, as it is called, is on the first glance a radical departure from Party-Communist policies. It picks up the name of Anarchism and glorifies its anti-authoritarian motives as true communism, while rejecting Party-Communist states as socialist only in name. At the same time it argues in favor of a post-monetary collectivism, much in the same way as Council-Communists do. On second glance, though, I fear this may not be a true change of direction within the Cyrillican regime and rather an attempt to revoke the split of the left into Anarchist, Party-Communist and Council-Communist factions. Cyrillica is still a member of the IRB and heavily reliant on aid from its Party-Communist allies. There have been no signs of democratization and in its past statements regarding Carentania, it has always attempted to convince our people of an ideology that values any kind of socialist movement as progressive and worthy of our solidarity.

Even though the Manifesto explicitly rejects Party-Communist thought as oppressive treachery?

It's been hard for me to put these references into perspective when first reading the transcript. On second thought, I am actually thinking this may be an attempt to convince citizens in capitalist states of Socialism. Engels titulates Party-Communist ideology as Marxist here and claims, that any such movement was only socialist in name - and its leaders in fact wanted to enslave the citizens of their countries from day one on.
Of course, this isn't merely a gross oversimplification, this is outright wrong. The term Marxism predates actually to the time of Karl Marx himself and described - and still describes - his scientific approach to political issues. Marx himself called it scientific socialism and rejected the term that was based on his name, but it never quite catched on. What we describe as Marxism never made any clear statements regarding the organization of a socialist state or its political system - it was rather the approach to analyze society based on materialist criterias.

The state of the reality determines the state of the mind

Exactly. Marxism isn't so much an ideology as it is an approach how to form a socialist ideology. Karl Marx himself probably died to early to finish his thoughts on socialist society - we'll never know. But Engels false representation of the socialist developement goes further, when he claims that Party-Communist movements were mere conspiracies to fool the working class. Of course, it's a pleasant thought because we won't have to deal with the fact then that even the best Communist can be corrupted by power. But a clear analysis of the conditions under which Party-Communism has led to the rise of dictatorships will tell us that this is just plain wrong thought. It is foolish to think that entire communist movements could be just one big conspiracy - and that they time and time again suceeded in fooling millions. Rather, Party-Communism has itself a fundamental flaw that one the one side allowed it to achieve victory over the bourgeoise more often than any other left-wing movement, but at the same time always gave birth to beuraucratic and anti-democratic structures of power, which then proceeded to oppress the once powerful proletarian movement. These flaws include at the very least militarism, the idea of a "Vanguard Party" and its position above that of Worker Councils.

Engels has called these states Mezhivist*.

A gross oversimplification, borrowed from extremism theories. Engels has termed any modern dictatorship Mezhivist, but Mezhivism has two meanings. Firstly ideological and secondly as a gathering term for certain kinds of dictatorships. Ideologically, Mezhivism is an ultra-nationalist and often racist movement that is strictly authoritarian, anti-communist and condones the use of violence by its followers as "heroic fight." As a gathering term to describe a certain kind of state system, we use Mezhivism to describe states in which the ruling capitalist class, facing a growing working class movement, relied on the massive use of violence and populist propaganda to keep the population in check.
In Party-Communist states we see superficial similiarities - namely the massive use of violence and populist propaganda to keep their population in check. These, however, result from similiar threats, namely a strong oppositional mass movement in the form of Communism. But whereas Mezhevism has its leaders among the bourgeoise, Party-Communist dictators once were parts of the working class movement itself. Those are differences we can not ignore. What Engelism does is provide a cheap and easy to buy explanation that does not require much thinking or explanation and can thus be easily spread even in capitalist societies.

So Engelism is an ideology of appeasement. To the opposing factions within the left as much as to the general population within capitalist states, which knows of the failures of Socialism in many countries?

You could say so. Engelism is a populist ideology, which tries to explain the world in very simple words - without alienating the other parts of the left. To do so, it actually denounces its own history and alliance, rejecting Party-Communism, but without actual consequences. The structure of the Cyrillican state has not changed significantly and we can expect to see Victor Engels remain in power for quite a while.

Anything else you find remarkable?

There is a lot I could add. But I could sum it up by saying, that the analysis of Capitalism within the Engelist manifesto is very, very flawed and kept so simple it falls short of achieving what it claims. However, you could probably ask an economist and we will give you a better critical comment on these issues.

Then that was it. Thank you for coming.

Thank you too.

OOC: I tried to fit your writing into NSEurope as good as I could, Cyrillica. You make a lot of RL references in there. Also * Mezhevism is (until anyone else comes up with another solution) our version of fascism, its name being derived from the slavic word for sword.

Hello and welcome to CPB evening news.

Todays head story: the Commissariate for Economic Planning is releasing its yearly statistics, proclaiming an average economic growth of 0.9% of the total economic output. The statistics include all industrial goods and services provided for by Carentanian workers, including those exported as well as those consumed domestically. They are revalued against a fictive labor-hour as a system of measurement. This years growth is within the range of past years and is described as "average" by the Commissariate.

According to the report, Carentania has continued to see a rapid decline in its coal mining industry and the Commissariate emphasizes on the need to find alternative sources for energy and fuel in the future, as coal ressources in the Workers' Republic are running dry. The decreased size of the coal mining sector and assorted industries is covered for by a slight increase in most key economic sectors, including machine manufacturing, electronics, public infrastructure - transport and energy - as well as a number of services, most notably telecommunications. The economic trend of past years is therefore continued.

Agriculture has stagnated and the Commissariate commented that this is due to Carentania reaching the boundries of what is possible in this sector. As the Carentanian population continues to grow and more migrants are coming to the Workers' Republic, the country will have to rethink its supply solutions for food, especially as the public desire for organically produced products increases. With the current amount of fertile land and the technologies at hand, the Commissar commented, those demands can not be met as it would drastically reduce the output of our agricultural sector, endangering the supply of millions. Several organizations, most notably the Greens, have rejected the Commissars statement, urging him to seek out agreements with net exporters of food.

Statistics also proclaimed a budget surplus of 0,2%, meaning that for every piece of foreign currency spent on imports, 1.02 of the same currency were gained through exports. The Commissariate has described that as "stable and reasonable surplus" and expressed its satisfaction with this years economic balance. Continued stable growth, the Commissar summarized, has allowed our standard of living to rise throughout the last decades, undisturbed by any economic crisis that shook the capitalist world.

In other news we will report about the disturbance of the capitalist market by Marquettes record deficit and will tell you the story of a naked man who brought the rushhour traffic in Rijeka to a complete standstill.
