We can confirm the movement of Danish forces into Frescanian territory and the treaty that is waiting approval in the National Assembly. We also want to congratulate the Danish Kingdom for its role in the Partnership and the Republic hopes friendly relations can continue.

We respect the will of the Danish people regarding Danmark's membership of the Germanian League, but we also want to make clear that it is an unwise decision. Like stated earlier, Danmark's membership of the GL has had a very positive effect on the Danish economy, something that will be flushed down the drain. Furthermore, the GL was concipiated as a vehicle to keep peace in our part of Europe, something that will be flushed down the drain as well.

And there is one reproach we make: The new government of Danmark just walks away like a little child that doesn't get its way, instead of trying to change the things it didn't like in the GL. Everybody in the GL would have listened to the Danish arguments, but the new Danish government just walked away for that discussion. We hope for Frescania that the new Danish government won't repeat this act.

We are happy with the fact that the Danish Navy and Air Force withdraws from Eiffelland. Indeed, at this moment, we don't see a basis for military cooperation with Danmark.

Kingdom of Eiffelland

His Danic Majesty's Government thanks the words of our close neighbour, a moderate and trusted nation among nations.

Whilst the government of the Kingdom of Eiffelland is freely entitled to express its view in a candid manner, which has no harm to Dano-Eiffellandian relations, we are pleased that there is recognition that the ultimate choice rests with the Danish people who are ultimate sovereign in the future of our country.

No nation possesses a crystal ball as to the ultimate direction and future, but the vote of the Danish people is the most important element in this, the Kingdom's withdrawal from the Germanian League. As such, it is the correct course to take
.

Even so, accusations of Danish inability to hold agreements, embellished as they are in hubristic anger by Germanic nations at the fundamental voice of the Great Danish people, are disregarded. The Danes, as is well known to observers, do not relish constrictions and value freedom. Freedom is the fundamental underpinning of our national identity, one that is riven through us and guides our national story from time immemorial. As such freedom in multinational arrangements finds more purchase and is favoured more by the Great Danish people than narrow and limited arrangements - that is the guiding leitmotif.

Regardless of the Kingdom's withdrawal this is not a finality, a closed door. Whilst the League is an important aspect of the prosperity of Germania, it is not the be all and end all and to pretend otherwise is simplistic and absurd. There remain great grounds for cooperation with Germanic nations in multiple areas for the common good which time will tell if they develop to fruition.

For prosperity in Germania, this is achievable, but this does not have to be under the auspices of the Germanian League nor seen through its prism.

DULWICH, WEDNESDAY, 7th JUNE 2012

The Right Honourable The Secretary of State has received the Command of her Imperial and Royal Engellexic Majesty The Queen-Empress
to make known the following gracious Statement of her Imperial and Royal Engellexic Majesty
to the King, and Lordships of the Kingdom of Eiffelland.

An Extension of The Queen-Empress' Statement in Council.

TO THE KING, AND LORDSHIPS OF THE KINGDOM OF EIFFELLAND
I am instructed to EXPRESS on behalf of her Imperial and Royal Engellexic Majesty;

You must at least allow for a sincere respect of the subjects of Danmark to have intelligently, and rationally, formed an opinion of the matter of membership to the Germanic League and do away with the thinly veiled belligerence toward the common people of that kingdom; and despite the alarmist rhetoric of the Eiffellandian Government, for my personal part as Secretary of State, I am not prepared at this present moment to say that the subject of a complete Borussian disintegration is upon us.

I may be right or wrong, but my opinion is that Danmark has done much by natural wisdom and moderation, by bringing the essential opinions and demands of its people within certain limits, to form the argument on a Borussian future, which is not a new argument at all, that the Courts of the Germanic League believed was quite settled but were in fact temporarily well concealed. But even if this were the disintegration of Borussia I admit without the least question that up to a certain point the foundations of Borussia are upon their trial; and I admit without the least question that in my opinion this act of the Danish people constitutes a most historical modification of the Borussian status quo.

Even still, after Europe has listened to the short lines of regret at this situation from the Germanic League members, we see the Danish Kingdom told, why do you depart from the advantages and benefits of free trade and enterprise? If there is one thing more than another which the Danish Government has been doing recently around Europe, it was showing that it most certainly prefers to act in strict consonance and conformity with the spirit and policies of free trade and enterprise; and what those trade policies of Danmark has swiftly exposed is the deceit and bitterness of the Germanic League’s free trade declarations. The economic policies of the Germanic League have been unflatteringly revealed to be nothing of freedom but of regional protectionism, designed to abuse the collective worth of the Borussian states against those outside of the political and economic bloc.

Therefore, it is my rational opinion to argue that the Kingdom of Danmark can expect greater economic bounty as a consequence of its departure in the long-term; and the Kingdom of Eiffelland shall indeed come to lament, with characteristic wail, the decline of realm and European partners from its own folly.

By the Grace of GOD, of the EMPIRE of GREAT ENGELLEX, CHARLOTTE, the QUEEN-EMPRESS, through the SECRETARY of STATE, his Grace the DUKE of NONSUCH

Westerveld on strategic Himyar mission
Danish move to consolidate long term 'coalition for peace'
Ingebørg Schmidt, Chief Foreign Correspondent
Forteza Real, Frescania

Udenrigsminister Westerveld has visited the Frescanian capital of Forteleza Real in a round of shuttle diplomacy seeking to orchestrate long-term Himyar policy and strategy following recently heightened tensions following the Altaic bomb explosion and threats of action by Talemantros.

The three-day diplomatic mission will see Hr. Westerveld visit all capitals of the
Himyar Partnership for Peace (HPP) states to meet foreign ministers in the first multilateral round of its kind.

Key in the talks will be carving out a joint-HPP plan of action should events flow out of control and 'equilibrium be challenged' with the Danes declaring a ready and major role in the process.

Following two hour long talks with his Frescanian opposite Ricardo Gomez, Hr Westerveld held an open-air press conference in which he declared that
Danmark and Frescania were determined to forge ahead with the Partnership nations in a long-term objective at instilling security in the region.

"Our talks were positive and declarative and I am now more confident than ever before that not only has the
Himyar debacle and its tragedies brought the Kingdom and the Republic together, strengthening and building new links including closer military cooperation both within and outside the Partnership, but that we are mutually determined to work in a grand effort alongside the Jurzan, Altai and my own country's fellow Observer Nations to play a full, robust and constructive role in Himyar".

Hr Westerveld also met with the newly-inaugurated Secretary General of the Partnership, Jose Daniel Urdaneta, the first such visit by an HPP Observer nation where he was congratulated on his new position.

"I am a great admirer of Sr. Urdaneta an accomplished diplomat and a distinguished and knowledgeable foreign representative of the proud Republic with years of service. I have every confidence that he will do his utmost to lend his immense gravitas and personal authority, providing the firm but consensual leadership for all of this glorious institution".

The Foreign Minister is due to travel to
Sharjah, Jurzan to meet with the Jurzani Hakim Tohki and to Altaisk, Altai for discussions with Foreign Minister Mikhail Pavlichenko, the latter himself fresh back from Westerveld's home country after signing a significant lend-lease agreement.

Hr. Westerveld has been keen to be shown to be energetic and assert Danish influence in Himyar, as a prime-mover with close relations to the other major powers, and has not been afraid to issue strongly-worded missives of late.

But analysts have been keen to note that alongside his instinctive multilateralism is a keen advocate of 'stick and carrot' foreign policy and with a fondness for 'Grand Benignity' - a traditional Danish doctrine of non-interference once the greater order is secured and actively maintained - both have been and are expected to be employed to the full alongside the newer Chain of Steel doctrine in Himyar.

Danish Bari ships voyage to Polasciana following accord
Per Claus
Karacsiena, Polasciana

The Kingdom has sealed an accord with its neighbour and Slavic state of Polasciana opening up Polascianan naval ports and airfields for use by the Crown Forces as part of Christiansborg's deepening commitment to a dual role of protecting southern Germania and as a 'guardian of the peace' in the Long Sea, Bay of Sindh and northern Himyar, alongwith strengthening the military doctrine of Stålkæden, or the Chain of Steel, which now sees Danish presence in four regional states.

In the first utilisation of the accord, 15 vessels of the Kongelige Danske Marine naval presence in the Talemantine port of Bari, moved to new homes in bases in the strategic island chain that divides the Long Sea from the Sindh.

Although small at present, the accord has caveats built into it allowing for greater naval and airforce deployments as and when required and reactive to events in the region, though the Defence Ministry has made clear that alongside the current naval element, it will maintain a small airforce detachment with AWAC, fighter and long-range bomber aircraft mainly for monitoring shipping lanes and for keeping an eye on the environs of the
Himyar, the Accord a neat supplement to the agreement reached with Frescania allowing Danish forces to bestraddle both seas from this most strategic of Slavic states and an extension of a rapprochement between the two nations in recent times which has seen economic and political links blossom after many years of estrangement.

Leaked Jurzani report prompts military move
Arne Bentzen
Christiansborg

The Foreign Office has been quoted as 'quietly concerned' at revelations leaked from the Jurzani War Ministry raising security fears over oil fields and refineries, with direct implications of interruption of the flow of oil to the Kingdom, by promising military assistance in their protection.

In its first unveiling of assistance following the news, the Kingdom's Defence Ministry announced that the 25 vessels of the 40-strong Kongelige Danske Marine flotilla, moored in the Talemantine port of Bari, would be despatched to the main Jurzani port of Abasha with immediate effect, the rest moving to nearby Polasciana (see previous news story).

The ministry has also given the orders for the immediate despatch of a significant detachment of army and airforce personnel which will be sent to the Islamic state and stationed in strategic regions as required, though it also announced that undercover elite Royal Stormtroops (nicknamed 'shock forces') had already been dispatched some days ago along with intelligence forces, but refused to divulge the exact number due to national security risks.

The Jurzan is the Kingdom's largest supplier of oil which has greatly assisted the growing Danish economy in recent times. It is widely known in government and military circles that defence of the oil supply and the halting of any temporary or long term 'turning off of the tap' from Jurzan is a significant Danish concern which it is prepared to back by military means.

"Christiansborg has not minced its words in that any threat to the oil supply will be met with fierce resistance and it will bare its teeth", said Tomas Upslag
ørd of military analysts Sikkerhed i Dag (Security Today).

"The oil connection is more than purely an economic concern, it is major foreign policy concern and of national defence. I have no doubt that the new government will follow in the steps of its predecessors in maintaining a robust approach though the current government is likely to take a significantly more hardline stance and not let anything stand in its path even if it means defending the Jurzani regime when push comes to shove. Oil, regional stability and military compacts signal that the Danes are here to stay in Himyar for the long term".

Lend-Lease announced for Altai
Bendt Lars Paersgaard
Christiansborg

Udenriksministeriet has proclaimed a lend-lease agreement between Danmark and Altai, signed in Christiansborg yesterday, as 'guaranteeing the long-term self-defence and greater operatibility of Altaic defence forces' as the Principality struggles with a crisis of the national soul, left reeling from a recent Zamsocan-attributed bomb explosion that killed 135 people and injured 117 more outside a temple in the northern city of Dara.

The arrangement signed between Deputy Foreign Minister Dagmar Rollessen (Foreign Minister Westerveld absent due to a tour of northern Himyar) and Altaic Foreign Minister Mikhail Pavlichenko sees the Danes offer 60 Uvejr fighter-bomber, interceptor and ECR (electronic combat and reconnaissance) aircraft, to be returned once the Principality has manufactured enough of its own aircraft in the longer term.

Until now, Altai has been prevented from significant military procurement because of cash-straitened circumstances and due to the fall-out from its defeat by Talemantros which saw the region of Zamosk emerge as a separate state, buttressed from Talemaniki.

Although the Kingdom has taken on responsibility for the defence of the Principality, despatching 32,000 military personnel, the lend-lease agreement is expected to allow greater abilities in the Principality's sovereign defence in return for virtually free oil supplies to fuel the Danish economy, a major asset that will provide payment in return.

Deputy FM Rollessen said that the deal was struck to allow Altai to engage in its own adequate self-defence.

"Recent deteriorating events and rising tensions in the region have made the Principality's position crystal clear, hence why we have already deployed our forces there in its defence and which we shall conduct with thorough determination and gravity. But it is important that the Principality acquire its own effective defence and attack capability which is why this arrangement is so valuable and necessary. It is an integral aspect of our foreign policy to maintain the status quo which is critically necessary if the region is to emerge from strife and into peace, so it is important that Altai is adequately equipped to deal with the challenges of today and of tomorrow in the maintenance of that status quo".

Whither Danmark?

Roaring across the seven seas like latter day vikings, divorcing from the Germanians, flexing their muscle and firing shots across the bows in Himyar, and engaged in grand statecraft with a multitudinous lattice-work of pacts and agreements, many would be forgiven if they are kept second guessing about the latest developments to emanate from the corridors of power in Christiansborg. With a magician's act of deflection with dazzling mirrors, cloaks and daggers, and obfuscation by smoke, it seems these days that the Great Danes are popping up everywhere with their fingers in many pies and behind many recent political developments. This nationalist government and the one before it, have not hidden their light behind a bushel in rearing their head and standing up in pride and confidence. But the big question has to be asked: what is it that the Danes stand for and where are they going?

For a start, I think we can expect to see more of this and more besides. There is no doubt that Christiansborg means business, instilled with a belated sense of mission and purpose like never before, showing all the signs of being unapologetic about it even if it risks offending erstwhile partners. In that sense, withdrawal from that strait-jacket upon Scanian life and ambition, the Germanian League, does seem to have been the making of the kingdom, despite its pitfalls. The land of the migrant viking disapora - Su
ðreyjar, the Kingdom of the South - has flourished in leaps and bounds.

The mood from the capital city, one that is viewing the nation becoming the major entity in Germania and with a high-profile wider European role, seems to be one of jabbing its elbows into others and stamping on toes with hobnail boots in the restoration of justice, prowess, defence of the weak, and that great determinant of foreign policy - stability -which it believes is a beneficial template for mankind the world over, ceasing to be shy about it either. This resolution and determination has come to the fore in such a way that it has, in my opinion, startled, angered and been welcomed in variable measures at the same time across the world. But as the old adage goes, success does not come with pleasing all. Christiansborg will undoubtedly make enemies along the way, but they seem clued up enough to both foresee this but also not let it veer it from its new-found course. As a nationalist I take comfort in this cobweb-smiting gust of fresh air.

There seems no going back, no appetite for retreating into a shell. It seems nowadays that if anyone attempts to circumscribe the will of Christiansborg they will feel a breath of fire down their necks and be met with iron resolution and a bullet in the jugular. Look at Corsica, who's only saving grace was a royal marriage into the grand Danish monarchy. The indications are that the Danes will not be messed with, judging by the undercurrents and statements dished out, particularly by the comparatively hardline Hjemland coalition, which touts 'Danmark PLC' like no other before it. No more quaint little Scanian vikingr marooned in Germania, but an international power in the true sense of the word to be reckoned with, eclipsing other comparable nations like the Wieserreich, consigned to the dustbin of a mere Mitteleuropa power. I suspect that should be taken as a warning.

The great tradition of multilateralism does not seem to have become a victim of this resurgent Danish power despite contrary expectations and I expect that to continue to be a hallmark. To me, this is an indication of wisdom if anything. Christiansborg clearly realises it cannot accomplish everything on its own so it does not get out of its depth. It acts with caution and with the guiding principle of checks and balances. But there is a risk taking and pugnacity that I have never seen from Danish governments before and it is paying off - and big time. It is, in a grand departure with tradition, seen as a grand protector, guarantor of peace, and a backseat driver in that bloody hotspot of the world, the Himyar. Without precedent, Christiansborg dispatched a huge number of its forces to defend a hitherto largely unknown small corner of the world but one which it believed was intrinsic to do so, and sees no limitation in its determination in bringing quiescence even if it risks, as it almost did, a war with the Talemantine Empire. The backroom gossip in the coffee bars and clubs over the land nowadays is that it would be fully prepared to engage with Talemaniki and pull out all the stops to ensure a crushing blow to what is seen as a decadent, bravado-instilled and rotting carcass of an empire. Even though it has not needed to use its firepower yet, when push comes to shove, I believe it will in a rampaging blitzkrieg and mortal tour de force.

Oh, and don't mention Jurzan and oil. This seems to be a sensitive subject for the Danes but one that Christiansborg will fight for, stabbing and booting for the national interest and to safeguard the economy. Over their dead body will they surrender their oil and they seem more than willing to the stand up to anyone and exact the 'treatment', putting the fear of god into anyone that so much as whiffs in that direction.

An empire in all but name, strewn across three continents, and with feisty determination, the plucky and wily little Danes proudly fly the millennium-old blood-tinted masthead of the Dannebrog, for Kong og land. With a crash, bang, and a wallop, this is the era of the Great Danes. They have arrived and, comewhat may, they are here to stay. As the saying goes, 'we shall not be moved'.

Military deployments gather pace over Boliatur
  • Joint Command force totalling 15,000 to be sent
  • Contingent to include elite Royal Stormtroops
  • "Decapitation of surgical magnitude" a major objective
  • "Parliamentarians in unity as never before" over Boliatur
  • Broad discussions between government and Chiefs of Staff
Magda Steinn, Chief Political Correspondent
Christiansborg

Folkehuset has given the final nod to a major military expedition as Christiansborg seeks to exact a 'decisive and crushing blitzkreig' upon the Bolituran regime as anger persists at the insults and threats to the Great Danish monarchy, the Kingdom, and international security.

In a heated and stormy session, there was almost complete unanimity in the support of the proposal put forward by the Statsminister, Hr. Schneider-Krogsgaard, to despatch a major expeditionary force totalling around 15,000 - drawn from army, navy, airforce, marine and special forces - , with reserve units on stand-by, with immediate effect to Danish Implaria, with only hard-left Ny Venstre and some Social Democrats voicing disapproval.

Of the total, around 12,000 personnel will go to Implaria with the remaining 3,000 stationing temporarily in Altai for "strategic reasons", temporarily increasing the numbers of the Crown Forces in Altai to 35,000. Many of these are expected to replace existing forces in Altai who have themselves gained considerable experience in Danish nightwatchman obligations there. Many personnel stationed in Altai are expected to be relocated in the with the war on Boliatur, their numbers replaced by fresh replacements from among the 3,000 personnel due to arrive in Altai in the next two weeks.

Following high-level discussions between Altaisk and Christiansborg, the government has permitted Altaic volunteers to be ferried out to Implaria on military aircraft and use of an aircraft carrier, alongside Danish warplanes, so that the Altaic Airforce can partake in operations.

The Crown Forces' operations will be coordinated under a Joint Command structure with a military HQ in Aaaben-unden-Marken overseen by a specially convened Krigskabinet (War Cabinet) comprising the Statsminister, former Social Democrat Statsminister Hr. Poul Edvard Jensen, Minister of Defence, Foreign Minister, Minister of Finance, and the Chief of the Joint Command, Air Chief Marshall Skovgaard. The War Cabinet met for its first session in the Rigskancelleri this afternoon. It is understood that the reports of the meetings will be reported directly to the King and the Crown Prince, who will be kept fully abreast of developments in regular sessions by the Statsminister in an audience at Karlskrona Slot.

Statsminister Schneider-Krogsgaard hailed the development as "indicative of a will to lance the boil that is terrorism backing words with action".

"Our boys will ensure that we do our bit to enact regime change in Mrysini as our first objective. From the outset, we have said that this is a direct attack upon the regime - not the people for whom we have great sympathy. The coalition in Christiansborg, in close liaison with our armed forces, will fine-tune a comprehensive battle plan in forthcoming weeks, though much of the groundwork is already in place. The Danish approach will be rigourously 'stick and carrot'".

Pressured to answer rumours that undercover special forces may already be in Boliatur and that submarine and air surveillance had been taking place, the Statsminister refused to comment.

"I cannot and will not divulge any of our operations in the here and now", he said.

However, there are concerns in some quarters as to the ability of the government to undertake the attack due to regional actors and some politicians have accused the nationalist-led government of using Boliatur for its own ends as an "enterprise in Glory", and one even going as far to accuse the government for using "a sledge hammer to crack a peanut".

An ante-conference between Udenrigsminister Westerveld and his Karakh counterpart in Vesper are understood to be an attempt at getting both sides to understand the two positions and work on common ground, though the Foreign Office has clearly indicated a desire to work closely with Yujin and also other regional nations with intense back-channel talks having been ongoing for weeks, sources indicate.

Meanwhile, the Kongelige Danske Marine deployment from its base in Midgaard is still enroute to the eastern Snieg, assisted by fortunate summer weather. A decision is imminent as to what will happen with the detachment once it gets closer to Boliatur in the next week.

Magna Danorum Imperialis Regnum. This is the message that the nationalist dominated Rigskabinet and the parliament intend to send out as they threaten lethal force against Boliatur. And they mean it. Never before has a foreign regime incurred the ire of Christiansborg and whether it is a small threat or large, they are clearly demonstrating that they will pull out all the stops to wring it by the neck.

The cryptological nature of Bolituran politics are ones deserving of a special department of Kyrsinology, not that one has has been established - yet - so it is not necessarily easy to deduce how its leaders are reacting to the smorgasbord of international pressure from the Vesper Conference, sanctions, asset seizures, travel bans and military mobilisations, but my guess is that they will be both deeply worried but still capable of firing rounds of missiles with warheads packed with bravado. I suspect they gravely misjudged the reaction and are now caught with their pants down around their ankles, and reduced to sloganising propaganda. It can only be hoped that the moderates, and I am sure they do exist, can come to the fore in a power-struggle against the current leadership.

An interesting aside, buried beneath the big story about the military movements, and one that has been picked up on by hawk-eyed observers is the emphasis on stick and carrot (a skull-cracking bash around the head and dashing out of its brains for the Nodovinya regime, but active propaganda of the 'other path for Boliatur' if it boots out its leaders).

Which brings me to another point often overlooked - that of Henrik Westerveld. Christiansborg's foreign policy, it seems, is more steeped in longtermism than some of its critics suggest as they look to the post-Nodovinya era with a prize in mind. For all the high-faluting talk about threats to 'King and Country' and the Danish Way, I think even Foreign Minister Westerveld is seasoned enough and is intensely aware that he has to say some of these things to appease angry public sentiment and also bat off ultra-nationalist mutterings about his credentials as one of them. Hard-liners frequently whisper that as an outsider, a Liberal who was brought in by the nationalists, he is too wedded to moderate and old-style multilateralism. He knows the political climate all too well but has not lost sight of greater objectives.

He is also a true leader in the truest sense and one, when the time is right, who will help to craft public opinion and lead it. I suspect he is thinking ahead of mere jingoism as he senses an opportunity here for the Danes. That opportunity is global positioning, buttressing of power, and economics, in essence - oil.

There is also a 'other' in this - domestic politics. If he can pull off a coup and outmanoeuvre the hard core nationalist wing in the ascendant both by playing the nationalist card but using his considerable skill on the international circuit, he will boost his standing at home and become irremovable and indispensible to the nationalist government. Not that they want rid of him, but it's best to prepare. I would say to keep an eye on Westerveld. He is a potential future leader of this country.

For the second time in a month, Folkehuset debated in all night session assenting to the dispatch comprehensive military forces to Danish Implaria and Altai as a prelude to military attack on Boliatur
Belmont talks heralded as "success"
Arne Bentzen
Vesper, Cantignia

Udenrigsminister Westerveld has welcomed the conclusion of wide-ranging talks with Belmontien Foreign Minister Sant-Carcierre which promise a greater drawing together of the two kingdoms.

The bilateral meeting, held on the sidelines of the Vesper Grand Conference, put the finishing touches to many months worth of negotiations held in Villesen and Christiansborg on economic and military cooperation. However, it is understood that the crackdown on anti-monarchists in the Belmontien city of Lesmages was not discussed in the three-hour talks.

The Danish concern to facilitate the establishment of a significant international trade bloc, still in its early stages of negotiation with various capitals, was mooted with "positive" endorsement from Sant-Carcierre.

Significant for Belmont was the agreement for the use of Danish bases in the island fortress of Faeroerne which already has around 80,000 personnel stationed on it as part of meeting Long Sea and Danish Thaumantic security policies. Minister Westerveld said the agreement was significant.

"Belmont is the only the second nation to have gained assent to station forces on Danish soil in a long-term fashion, the other being Frescania as part of a separate bilateral treaty. I believe that is helps assist the flowering of a close friendship between us and the fostering of trust. My long-term objective is for a comprehensive treaty covering the remits of military cooperation. I also desire to have similar arrangements with other neighbouring states in the forthcoming future under the right conditions".

Also in the 'Vesper Agreement' was a caveat to increase intelligence sharing between mutual secret services, another area Hr. Westerveld indicated his desire to formalise with other nations.

Concerns raised over weapons, mercenary suppliers

Mercenaries: Soldiers of honour or dogs of war?
Opposition politicians and human rights groups have criticised the government's decision to liberalise legal restrictions allowing the growth of private weapons trading and mercenary suppliers as "dangerous and unethical" and allowing a "bonanza for privateering".
The rebuke follows the announcement by Worldwide Security Solutions Corp. that it had been approached Diagist leaders in the north of the landlocked and war-torn region of Sakhibistan, east of Altai. WSS stated that as many as 70 ex-soldiers had been assigned to go to the region though it would not disclose the figure it had been paid and also from what source. Some media commentators claim that money has been funneled to the company possibly through a third country in a series of bank accounts in what critics slate as 'shady'.

Some Social Democrat and Liberal Folkehuset members teamed up to slam the government for irresponsible liberalisation with Danish military hardware potentially falling into the wrong hands, that there were insufficient checks on military companies and to where they sold weapons and machinery, and that international watchdogs had 'concerns' that sufficient vetting of people signing up to the books of WSS and other similar companies as mercenaries was lax citing potential human rights abuses and exploitation that could take place in areas like Sakhibistan.

"Companies like WSS are run by self-seeking, greedy corporate fat cats who have no moral scruples and think of one thing above all others and that is how much cash they can make" claimed one SD member. "A few reports have come to light at how these companies act in a shady way and have developed intricate methods of covering their tracks as money is deposited in offshore accounts through intermediaries, whether people or countries. We call upon the government to close the numerous loopholes in its legislation immediately".

Concerns are that Danish weapons may also find their way into the hands of warring factions, in particular in Yujin. The government has refused to comment on the reports but it is known that it is secretly concerned if these developments were to come to light for the implications upon Dano-Yujiner relations.

WSS CEO,
Randolf Østergaard -Juul, estimated to have a personal fortune of around £3bn Breotish pounds
dismissed the accusations.

"They are totally unfounded. All that we do is legal and above board and we follow the letter of the law. I would like to see actual proof of what we do as being unethical and if that is the case, I will launch a full internal investigation".

WSS and others have led a concerted recruiting campaign in recent time though they are notoriously secretive who joins their pay-rolls. Some indications suggest that many are older former soldiers or ones looking for more adventure than some believe they get serving in the regular army despite the Altai operations and expansion of the military in general which has seen military life gather more buzz in recent times, with a significant increase in recruits to the military.

Concerns have also been raised at how the liberalisation, whilst providing a boost in income from military sales, is giving the kingdom a bad name as a weapons source and questions at the pay-levels of serving army officers who, they say, find mercenary services an attractive alternative to regular service.

Others have questioned the 'money motive' citing historical precedent and Danish culture suggesting that the growth in the mercenary services harks back to an age-old notion of derring-do and adventure.

Military Historian Professor Magnus Nordsten: "Folklore and sagas from the days of the Danskefolke migration remain ever popular throughout the centuries with a love of swords, bloodlust, bravery, honour, danger and chivalry something that makes us Danish. This underpins the ethos, whilst taken into the modern age, of service in the armed forces which retains this medievalist slant. For many, these values can be seen in those who sign up for these security companies. I don't think money is the main reason and it shouldn't be forgotten that the renumeration for service is not as great as some like to think it is. Being a mercenary is far less cosy than being a member of the regular forces and there is less security and it is a risky business in terms of life, but this is all part of the game and the thrill. The mercenary company is simply the modern incarnation of what we used to do centuries ago where we volunteered to fight for others but with no loyalty to the people that they serve aside from the company they work for. They are the cutting edge of the privateering industry".

A joint state-of-the-art Danish-Engellexic air defence destroyer has been unveiled as the first venture of its kind between the neighbouring countries.
Titled the Horion (Horizon in Engellex), the large-displacement destroyer is expected to replace some of the existing Serpent class of destroyers of the Kongelige Danske Marine and with its enhanced capabilities, a single Horion has the ability to do what three Serpent destroyers together are able to do when operating in intensive attack.

Designed, built and financed equally in both nations, the Horion is expected to undertake sea trials in the Kattegat and in the Thaumantic Ocean. Indications are that both nations will place orders for several of the Horion destroyers for their navies for independent defence purposes.

OVERSKRIFTER
¤ Industry delegation arrives in Sucrecia
Danish Trade and Industry minister, Søren Todskrup, arrived in the Sucrecian capital of Emancipacion leading a delegation of senior industrialists and Ministry officials. Increasing investment and job creation opportunities with several corporations keen to establish mining concerns in the mineral-rich former Frescanosphere country - from timber, oil, precious stones and rare earths - have been on the cards for some time. Concern has been raised however at the main leftist opposition Radical Party's proposal to herald a redistributionist taxation regime if it wins power. Whilst not wanting to be drawn into the internal affairs of the country, the warning from industrialists is that implementation of the new structure sends out the wrong signals to international business who may be "put off" investing which would likely stunt the prosperity of the Sucrecian economy. The visit of Minister Todskrup is widely seen as laying the ground before the arrival of Udenrigsminister Westerveld in coming weeks which is expected to address wider foreign policy in Himyar.

¤ Farmers, environmentalists protest Polascianan coal U-turn
Around 340 protesters of various environmental groups and farmers of the
Østflod Landboforeninger (Østflod Farmers' Union) held a protest outside the Polascianian embassy in Christiansborg over the reopening of around five coal mines and the abandonment of emissions targets by Karacsiena. The decision has been condemned as sacrificing environmental and air-quality controls which will not only impact Polasciana but due to weather systems, are likely to be felt further afield in Danmark, Eiffelland and the Wieserreich. Numerous studies have shown that 'unclean' coal production and burning have significant impact upon soil structure by reducing levels of potassium and decline in crop yields. Chemical pollutants have been proven to have an impact on air and water quality with increases in carbon and sulphur dioxides, for example. Instances of acid rain, which have seen a dramatic decrease in recent years, are expected to be reversed with Østflod, the canton closest to the border, likely to bear the brunt."Pollution is no respecter of borders", said one protestor "we call on Polasciana to reverse this policy that is bad for the entire sub-alpine region". Although the protest was largely peaceful, one protestor was arrested by police after he sprayed a putrid mixture of partially-liquidised pig manure and offal at the embassy building from a tractor. The Danish government has pledged to foot the bill for the sanitisation and cleanup of the embassy building, the staff of which have had to move to alternative accommodation (a wing of the Espirit Hotel) due to hygiene risks and resulting foul smell.

¤ D.I. positions as tax haven
The archipelago assembly of Danish Implaria has voted to significantly reduce corporate taxation rates as it seeks to dramatically increase foreign capital. The vote succeeding by 89 votes to 38 will also open the doors to a major promotion and advertising initiative to tout the islands to international conglomerates and banking concerns. Critics say that it risks the islands becoming a centre of money laundering though this has been dismissed due to the stringent legal apparatus in the islands. Others rejecting the move claim the money will stay in the main city of Ny Roskilde and that other islands will be left scrambling for any windfall. An integral part of the Great Danish kingdom, Implaria also nicknamed the Azurrige (Azurean Realm) due to the colour of the sea in the tropical sun, is better known a holiday destination famed for its black volcanic sands, coral atolls, naval docks, liberal alcohol rules and independent and nonconformist attitudes towards the political establishment. The assembly of the maritime canton was granted extensive fiscal powers in 2006 and has been keen to diversify from its dependence upon 'ships and sunbathers', a decision which has borne fruit in recent times. Military money is also expected to be swishing around the local economy as 12,000 military personnel make their slow procession to the islands, some having already arrived in aircraft, as part of the Boliatur conflict.

¤ Monterrey fugitives arrested in Færøerne, questions asked
Three men believed to be illegal fugitives from Monterrey have been arrested following an anonymous tip-off in a remote sheep farm in the east of the Thaumantic isle, 40km from the main city, Gamle Kongensted. A Danish national was also arrested. All four have been taken to Gamle Kongensted for questioning. Initial though uncorroborated reports suggest that the illegal entrants, one of whom spoke a fluent Danish dialect, had managed to hitch a lift on a trawler that had been docked in the Monterreyan port of Nueva Francisca and evade port authorities both in Monterrey and the
Færøerne island. It is not known for certain why they entered Danish territory, if it was an isolated incident or of they were somehow connected to the emergent gang violence afflicting Monterrey. Nor is it known if they intended to escape to Metropolitan Danmark, elsewhere, or return home. Monterrey's growing crime problem has overspilled into the neighbouring West March and the incident to be unmasked on the island is the latest twist. Rumours and fears of an illegal Mainland Danmark-Færøerne-Monterrey 'cash for weapons' triangle whereby Danish weaponry (more easily accessible due to the relaxation of controls by the Nationalist government) is being purchased by gangs and being funneled into the conflict via fishing trawlers or that financial racketeering could already be in operation is doing the rounds. Law enforcement agents are due to fly out from Christiansborg to conduct their own investigations in the next days and It is also understood that liaison is due to be take place with immigration and law-enforcement counterparts in Escalera al Cielo.

VESPER, TUESDAY, 7th AUGUST 2012

THE Friendly Confines are taken aback, though not surprised, at how recklessly the Imperial Territories of Danmark conduct themselves in this age of Pan-Implarian cooperation. This Covenant always strives to consider its regional partners and associates before drastically altering the economic stability of the Implarian, a quality clearly not shared by the bankrolled Danish castaways of the Implaric Territories.

We call upon the Kingdom of Danmark, and its Imperial Territory, to explain to the Implaric Community and the Peoples & Patriots of Cantignia why this was done so suddenly, and without the consultation of other more peaceful powers throughout the Implarian Ocean. If we are to stand united against gang violence and the smuggling of illicit materials, then we must first begin by establishing an appropriate dialogue and rapport as partners in the Implarian.

OVERSKRIFTER
¤ Anticipation builds as the Coronation looms
The numbers of column inches, airtime, and general talk has galvanised as months of waiting comes to an end next month with the Coronation of Crown Prince Sweyn and the bowing out of His Majesty the King Hans Gustav III and the Queen Consort. The Coronation which will take place next month has been touted as the single biggest event of the last one hundred years full of high pomp and grandeur. A multi-million Rigsskilling operation is underway to provide intense security and move military forces and ceremonial guards to the capital, together with hundreds of horses, and the rolling out of the State Coaches. Various key thoroughfares throughout Christiansborg will be closed at night and during early mornings as mass ranks of troops are scheduled to undertake drill rehearsals ahead of the event. The event, expected to be televised internationally, will see most of Europe's kings, queens, a queen-empress, presidents and head of government descend on the capital in what some have said is a "major logistical headache" but one which has been fine-tuned to extreme detail.

¤ Government unveils multi-agency platform for post-conflict Boliatur reconstruction
The Rigskabinet has outlined the initial platform of the Danish reconstruction effort for Boliatur in the advent of the collapse of the Boliaturan regime, as reports suggest that the nation is undergoing "dire stress" according to aid agencies as the multinational blockade and looming military intervention increases. The platform will consist of a mix of government departments, aid agencies, charities and the King's Engineers corp. who will seek to draw up a comprehensive and coordinated Danish approach to rebuilding the country. However, the government has made clear that the effort - involving everything from transport infrastructure, water, hospitals, steering the economy to a 'fit for purpose' state, down to supporting native democrats in Boliatur - would only take effect once the Novodinya regime is ousted. "This is a prerequisite for any effort on this scale", said Vice-Statsminister, Lars Torstig-Hedderup. "Our money will not go to prop up the regime to be siphoned off into their pockets or to buy arms". The government also announced that a Danish long-distance aircraft from the Midgaard Fleet carrier approaching Boliatur from the Snieg, will be tasked with dropping several million propaganda leaflets in native languages from high altitude over Myrsini and other notable places to apply more pressure on the regime.

¤ Udenrigsminister pledges support for reformers in Sikandara
The Udenrigsminister, Henrik Westerveld, has made an unprecedented statement proclaiming "solid and unequivocal" support for democrats in Sikandara as mass demonstrations sprout up in cities and send shock waves through the ruling establishment. The announcement was made when pressed by journalists as he opened the new RS16 million (Rigsskilling) wing to the Foreign Ministry in the Old Government Quarter of Christiansborg. The announcement is seen as significant as talks reach culmination between Christiansborg and Shahdara over a complex and "significant" loan package to the cash-hungry Sindh nation tied to energy and business deals, with observers claiming that the Foreign Ministry is privately seeking to press strict conditions on Shahdara by tying aid to reforms.

¤ Dictator Boyack to be invited to Christiansborg to discuss Wasatch strife
The exiled leader of Wasatch, Markus Boyack, has been invited to attend talks at the Foreign Ministry to discuss the unfolding civil crisis afflicting the Occidental state. Boyack who held the title of Dictator until the Wasatchi National Senate stripped him of the position in a coup d'etat, is currently exiled to Cantignia but has been backed by the Danish government which has been the only government to openly state its continued recognition of the leader. There has been building tension in recent times with the most recent eruption leading to the deaths of 43 people following clashes in the capital, Salt Lake City. The news has also led to a chorus of condemnation from the international community though Christiansborg has thus far stopped short of sanctions but is refusing to recognise the new authorities, castigating them as illegitimate and unconstitutional usurpers. "Danmark recognises the legitimacy of Dictator Boyack until and if there is a legitimate and peaceful resolution. Rightful political processes and order must prevail over kangaroo politics", said Minister Westerveld. "We shall be calling upon the responsible neighbouring states of West March, Monterrey and others to apply pressure on the coup leaders".

The Free Republic of Sucrecia is appalled by Danmark's decision to invite the former Dictator of Wasatch Markus Boyack, whose ideological foundations include firm, prejudiced belief in the natural inferiority of the black man, to attend formal discussions in Christiansborg. Danmark risks losing its reputation for tolerance if it continues with the meeting, as well as the friendship of Sucrecia, whose proud citizens will not stand for such a blatant acceptance of hateful, racist ideology.

The Holy Emperor of Ivernia Patricius Aodh-Mór wishes to send his warmest congratulations to His Royal Highness Crown Prince Sweyn on his upcoming coronation. The H.I.E is sure that H.R.H. Crown Prince Sweyn is more than capable of ruling the 'Great Danes' of Danmark as a fair and prosperous nation.
We wish only the best for him and hope his coronation day is a rousing success. He is of course invited to An Impire Caisleán for a royal meeting with his neighbour to the far north if he so wishes.

¤ Broadside fired at Miroslavl over Boliatur
The Foreign Office launched a scathing swipe at the Miroslavan government over its vow to support and assist the Boliaturan regime, as Danish forces move towards the ostracised Toyou state. In an official statement, Udenrigsministeriet pledged to back the Mezhist Union which, sources indicate, has risen in esteem in recent weeks as it seeks to restore stability in the region. Pledging to work alongside the Union, Henrik Westerveld, Danmark's Foreign Minister made clear his determination to not let the the Miroslav regime stand in its way, denouncing it as "irrelevant". Speaking in Christiansborg, he said: "With eight or nine tenths with us on this, either actively or passively, the Miroslavans are onto an instant non-stTarter and risk becoming themselves isolated". He went on: "We urge the [Miroslav] government to reexamine its position and calm its bizarre rhetoric which serves no one, not least itself". Although there is no indication that Christiansborg is contemplating upscaling the tension between the two countries, the announcement from Volodymr was discussed in the weekly Rigskabinet meeting with an anonymous member of the coalition cabinet saying that economic sanctions against Miroslav have been "considered" alongside assistance to the Mezhist Union which Danmark sees as the key regional power.

¤
Foreign Office in drive to deepen Mezhist ties

Udenrigsminister Westerveld has announced that he is to fly out to visit the Mezhist Union for key talks aimed at upgrading and solidifying old ties, driven by the Boliatur Crisis. Minister Westerveld is due to pay visits to both capitals of the Union - Wiślica in maritime Lower Cerulunia and Lozinsk in the land-locked Upper Cerulunia as the Midgaard Fleet nears Boliatur. The Minister indicated that the talks would cover a wide range of policy areas, especially military liaison between Crown and Union personnel, and a desire to base Danish forces, especially the Midgaard Fleet, in Lower Cerulunia which is located directly opposite Boliatur in time for winter and to allow direct operations from across the strait separating the two states. Although links between the three nations are longstanding since the signing of the Sarmatian Compact in 2005, the Foreign Office is hopeful of intensifying links with the possible signing of a new compact, dubbed by analysts as SCII (Sarmatian Compact II). Currently, the Rigskabinet has intensified the pressure on Mrysini by dropping an estimated one million propaganda leaflets over its capital and other notable cities and has threatened to increase the tempo by landing forces. Talks are also currently ongoing with nearby Karakhstan though insiders indicate that there may be a 'limit' to how far these bilaterals will be successful.

¤ RS1.5bn loan package agreed with Sikandara
A one-and-a-half billion rigskilling (£1bn Breotish sterling) economic and development package has been finally agreed with Shahdara following several months of high-grade negotiations. Despite key sticking points over crucial details, the loan was given the go-ahead late yesterday, following belated agreement. The largest ever external aid package committed to by the government, will see the loan delivered in return to key E&D access rights to mineral resources including coal, oil and iron ore, with a '70/30' split in profits to Danmark and Sikandara respectively ensuring the repayment of the loan which has an additional, but low, interest rate. The agreement will also open the gates to increased access to Sikandari markets for Danish businesses including the establishment of small-medium enterprises (SME's) and large corporations together with access to key Sindh trade ports. Key taxation reforms, that may see the landed gentry class pay more tax, alongside an overhaul of Sikandara's agricultural base has been a major concern and demand from Christiansborg which has been secured. The loan and reforms will be overseen by a delegation of twenty-five key economic advisers who will be tasked with ensuring the loan agreement is adhered to and providing direction to Shahdara. For Shahdara, the agreement comes at a crucial time as it seeks to pay off creditors and amid an unfolding social crisis in the Sindh state. Christiansborg has pledged to support democrats in the country.
Critics of the deal have slammed it as Danish neoimperialism and that Sikandara risks becoming a client state with strings pulled from afar with Christiansborg keen to 'extend its sphere of influence'.

¤ Sucrecian Wasatch comments rejected
Sucrecian criticism of continued Danish support of the ousted Wasatch leader, Markus Boyack, as been downplayed as the country lambasted Danmark for dealing with a promoter of "hateful, racist ideology". The stinging rebuke came after Boyack was invited to Danmark, where he is still currently recognised as the legitimate head of state pending a 'proper' constitutional and legal basis for his removal from office. A spokesman claimed that the Sucrecian snipe was "not based in actuality" and was a "narrow and blinkered view of Danish foreign policy". He went on "whatever the wherefores of Dictator Boyack, we must take a stand on due and proper constitutionality. There can be no exceptions made for this. Equally, the unfolding dilemma in Wasatch cannot be pinned entirely on the Dictator. It is complex dynamic deserving of less simplistic analysis". The criticism is not expected to alter the intention of Danmark to pursue a economic and trade deal with the country though some have warned of the 'kneejerkism' in the country as a potential barrier to deep and meaningful investment with some believing that Danmark should not engage too closely, with one industry leader going much further saying "I would not touch that cesspit of sun-burned sugar-monkeys with a barge pole".

¤ Statsminister, Lady Josephine in bilateral summit
Statsminister Schneider-Krogsgaard has embarked on a two-day visit, one step below an official state visit - which are only conducted by the monarch and the Crown Prince - to Free Occidentia, including a summit with President Josephine Setton, often referred to as Lady Josephine, in a retreat near the mountain city of Conshohocken, as the both nations continue to bloom in their 'especial friendship'. Links between Danmark and Free Occidentia, referred to as Frihedoksidenten, are deeply rooted and very close with an historic bond going back as far as 100 years with the nation one of the few not to be under the Frescanopshere or Engellosphere. The visit, the first since the Statsminister was elected, will cover a range of issues but is primarily for 'showing the face' and focused on cultural and political ties. Schneider-Krogsgaard, a staunch nationalist, is also expected to visit the province of New Danmark and visit rural Dansketyskenerne, Danish-speaking Germans that emigrated to the new world in the nineteenth century and which make up a significant proportion of the population in the country. Seen as a 'safe visit' with little chance that anything can go wrong, the visit will also be a chance for the Statsminister, slated by some critics as being a 'obsessive and naval-gazing Dane' to up his Germanian credentials as he seeks to throw off this mantle as well as restore his international standing, frequently overshadowed by his high-profile Foreign Minister, Hr. Henrik Westerveld. "The Free Occident is a true friend to the Kingdom...I feel it is a home from home" he exclaimed upon landing in the capital, Lehighton.

¤ Diplomatic 'Cold War' between Christiansborg, Augsburg
Fears of a impasse between Christiansborg and Augsburg were increased yesterday as a diplomatic spat sent a volley of reciprocally heated communiques between the two capitals as Christiansborg demanded a 'rectification' of the stance of the notable Wieserreicher statesman, Prince Schwarzenberg. The Prince, in a statement to a press corp, talked down concerns at the emergence of "fledgling powers" on the Reich's borders which sent the Udenrigsministeriet into "overdrive" at what analysts say the Foreign Office believed was a 'slight' against the Kingdom. The Imperial Minister of Foreign Affairs, Count von Babelfisch rejected the Danish accusation that it was directed at them but the wording of Count Babelfisch's communique did little to calm the situation, claimed a ministry spokesman. Hr. Westerveld, the Danish Foreign Minister, claimed lastnight that he "wants to see a realistic settlement and agreeable framework on cooperation in the region" but that "this cannot be made possible with the unretracted comments of Prince Schwarzenberg. The Imperial government, thus far, refuses to see the legitimacy of our concerns and we call for an apology on this issue". He went on: "Our concerns are uniquely and singularly restricted to the Prince, not specifically to the position of the Reich itself vis-a-vis the Kingdom. We hope that we can show clarity on this, but I am not going to beat about the bush. When I see a spade, I call it a spade". Relations between the two capitals took a nosedive following the election of the Hjemland party which heads the five-party coalition, and the popular referendum that saw Danish withdrawal from the econo-military bloc, the GL. Criticised for effectively setting the conditions for a 'no' vote by the political opposition, the coalition has embarked on a mission to reignite relations to the Germanian sphere, in particular towards Eiffelland, the Danes' closest Germanian neighbour. However, unresolved issues between Christiansborg and Augsburg remain which have their basis in the 'bitter historical consciousness' with the Reich the core homeland of the historical Holy Germanian Empire which lends itself to a unique foreign policy position."I don't ever see relations between the two powers ever being problem free - its in the historic make-up of the two ... its inescapable, but they could be much better", said one academic.

¤ Scientists: definate proof of Polascianan air pollution growth
The Danish Arboreal Institute have released findings of extensive studies linking increased air, water and soil pollution in the east of the country directly to the reversal of energy policy in neighbouring Polasciana as it opens up mothballed coalmines and opens up new ones. The study, the results of which were unveiled in the Institute's headquarters, were the culmination of tests taken in liaison with the Royal Society of Meteorology which, they claim, shows that the prevailing weather system and micro-climate and topography in the region has been adversely effected with direct implications upon the flora, fauna and livelihoods in the east. Østflod, Danmark's largest canton, is the 'breadbasket' of the country accounting for 25% of its entire livestock and cereal crop and is the only one to run along the Dano-Polascianan border. Emeritus Professor Jacob Fulmer of the DAI said that "Østflod is effectively a huge bowl of nutrient-rich land hemmed in by the Amager and Alpine mountains in the west and north of the Rhine. The mountains act in a unique way creating an unusual climate not seen in the rest of the country. Rainfall tends to be released before the clouds reach the mountains, effectively hemming in harmful levels of pollutants into the soil...it is clear that this pollution risk is a direct result in emissions from Polascianan 'dirty coal' burning". The canton has seen an increase of acid rain in recent times, a problem that had largely subsided, with conifer trees being badly effected. Farmers are also warning that the increased pollution will have a negative effect upon the foodchain in both wildlife and upon the human population. Already, fauna experts have said that 'sooty wind' has had an impact on the rare Heimskringla moth, a protected species.

¤ Crown Government warns D.I. to 'respect' neighbours
The central government has urged caution upon the cantonal administration of Danish Implaria following its declaration as a 'honeypot' and tax haven which raised eyebrows from Cantignia, by urging the administration to be 'mindful' of regional concerns in formulating policy. Taken as a hint of the worries of Christiansborg in upsetting the 'delicate relationship' between the two countries, the statement is the first of its kind directed at a subnational government inside the Kingdom. The archipelago's administration in Ny Roskilde supported attracting foreign investment by positioning itself as a 'liberal but legal' venue (referring to the relaxed attitude towards corporate tax rates but backed by a rigorous legal structure countering possible money-laundering and fraud) following some years of debate in the island group. Positioned in the middle of Implaro-Oceania, the island government claimed that it could create an estimated 30,000 jobs and boost the revenue both the archipelago and the Crown Exchequer. Responding to the announcement from Christiansborg canton First Minister, Ulf Steinn, said that "regional considerations are always factored in. We understand the concerns of Cantignia, but I invite them to see the operation as it is structured. There is no cause for alarm" though he indicated his desire for a pan-Implarian economic trade bloc in the long term that "ensures regional prosperity". Responding to concerns at the chance of bootlegging of alcohol to the 'Friendly Confines', First Minister Steinn said "we have tough export laws almost guaranteeing that alcohol does not get to Cantignia alongside a fairly sizeable coastguard. Its not impossible, but unlikely".

¤ Dannevirke's 'Forgotten Danes' highlighted in cultural exhibition
A major cultural expo highlighting the Dannevirke has opened in Fredrikshavn as interest in nurturing ties to the West Danes increases following a government initiative. The expo entitled "Dannevirke: the Forgotten Danes" is expected to run for the next month in a converted dockyard warehouse and now major exhibition centre. Fredrikshavn was the last place that many Danes saw before they set off to new lives in what is now the Monterreyan territory, though Dannevirke itself is much older an a proto-Danish homeland. Only Faeroerne remains of this. Largely ignored for years following the 'Great Sale' in 1902 where the historic land of the Danskefolke was sold to Monterrey to rebalance the Crown Exchequer following a severe depression, interest in Dannevirke has increased in recent years following the coming to power of nationalists who called for the 'Brethren' to be restored to their proper place in collective memory and with the government seeking to support language schools in Monterrey fostering the ancient tongue of the Danskefolke.

Kongen er Død
The King is Dead
The King died during the night
Huge grief at the King's passing
Eight days of mourning
Millions expected to pay tribute
King Frederik II is proclaimed
Ingmar Christiansen, Henrik Kierkegaard, Ulf Sweinn
Karlskrona Slot, Christiansborg

The Realm is in collective mourning across three continents as Karlskrona Slot announced that His Danic Majesty King Henrik XIII died in his sleep in the Royal Chambers earlier this morning with His Majesty The King of the Great Danish Realm Frederik II proclaimed by Royal Heralds from the balcony of the palace to throngs of crowds at least twenty-five thousand strong.

The announcement sent the all four constituent parts of the Kingdom into collective shock though with news still to yet reach the far-flung extremities of the Realm, despite telegraph and radio news reaching through to Faroerne, Danish Implaria, and Midgaard, the impact of the King's death is still yet to fully find its impact upon the nation.

Known to have been ill for some time, it had appeared that His Majesty had begun to make recovery from a respiratory infection caught during the festivities at the turn of the year with an increase in his public engagements, though HKH The Crown Prince Sweyn had covered many of them. But the announcement this morning from the Palace has brought the worse fears of the nation into reality.

To match the momentousness of the magnitude of the news, fanfare trumpeters, massed ranks of the Cavalry Royal, Imperial Guard, the Royal House Stormtroopers and royal heralds, surrounded by the huddled collective royal family, including the grieving Dowager Queen Birgitte in full mourning dress and what observers described as a stoical and stolid Crown Prince, made the proclamation official before an estimated crowd of at least twenty-five thousand gathered in the teeming rain to hear of His Majesty's passing from this mortal coil and the proclamation of His Royal Highness The Crown Prince as His Danic Majesty The King Frederik II.

Folkehuset has been suspended and the Rigskabinet has met in emergency session issuing a government response paying tribute to the late king, who reigned over the Great Danish nation for 47 years. Tributes have poured in from near and far from Ministers of the Realm as far away as the Administered Territory of Danish Implaria, ancient Faeroerne and the northern Realm of Midgaard, though not yet the public in
the extremities unless they have been fortunate to have access to the radiogram and fewer still with access to televisual device, still in its infancy. Newspapers, apart from the official newspaper of record, Den Danske Tidende, have yet to fully publish the news to the population, though it is without doubt that many days of full coverage will ensue.

The late king, His Danic Majesty The King Henrik XIII in 1913
Rigskabinet has announced that the nation will be granted eight days of official mourning allowing the throngs of people to come to the nation's throbbing heart, the capital city of Christiansborg, to view the Laying in State of His Majesty's coffin in the cathedral of St Ansgard before the State Funeral next Tuesday and the Grand Procession of troops as the courtege makes its way through the streets of the capital before His Majesty's coffin is carried by rail to the heart of the nation's royal heritage, the city of Roskilde, to be laid to rest beside the forebears of the Storkong.

Tributes have also poured in from ordinary people from all walks of life who have heard the news - dockers, railwaymen, factory workers, farmers, military personnel, mariners, the down-and-outs, rich and poor, old and young - to their king with a collective sense of despondency, anguish, burden and loss for the monarch that presided over them for most of their lives. The sense of looking to the new king for deliverance and stability is overbearing.

The Great Danish people have been consoled from overseas as tributes have poured in from the friends of the nation, and even from less expected quarters, from the Empire of Great Engellex, the Dominion of Cantignia, Imperial Touzen, the Germans, Slavs, and the Occident who have rallied to assist the nation. No doubt this benevolent spirit and sharing of grief for the Great King will be remembered in the fondness and memories of the people and the royal family.

On behalf of the late King, the King, the royal family and the people we proclaim with heart and voice:

THE KING IS DEAD! GOD SAVE THE KING!

His Royal Majesty Grand Duke Eldizio I, along with his wife, Her Royal Majesty the Duchess Aldone, sends his sympathies to the Danish people and assurance of his sadness to the family of the king. He has ordered that, for the next week, all flags in the Grand Duchy be placed at half mast.

If anything is required by Danmark during this time of mourning, the Grand Duchy would be more than happy to assist.

The Holy Emperor of Ivernia Felix Uí Néill wishes to send his most sincere condolences to the Danish Royal Family and to all of Danmark over the fallen King Henrik XIII.
I assure you a vigil shall be held in the Arch-Cathedral of Saint Brian Bóruma in Bán Dair Cathrach and also town square vigils are being held in Vedrarfjord and Waesfjord where many Danish/Norse-Gaels have congregated throughout the day and long into the night following this tragic news.
