Besuch des Premierministers Akwesasnes: Politik, Kultur und insbesondere Erdöl

Visit by the Prime Minister of Akwesasne: Politics, culture and especially oil

Tomorrow morning at 9.00 am local time the country’s chief of government Joseph Hendrick is scheduled to touch down on one of the runways of Knut Knýtling International Airport. In order to mark the occasion of the premier’s first visit since joining the European Defence Federation as a junior member he will be received by His Royal Highness the Prince Regent of Franken. Although Joseph Hendrick is visiting Franken in his role as head of government, he will be treated to some events and occasions usually reserved to state visits, i.e. visiting heads of state. For example, Tuesday night the Premier and his entourage will be hosted at the Königsburg for a state banquet.

Prime Minister Hendrick will stay in Franken for three days until he returns home from Würzburg’s airport Thursday afternoon. The first day of the itinerary is to be spent with political talks between Ministerpräsident Graf Peter Solms and Prime Minister Hendrick. One of the main issues will be discussing agreements on the exploitation of Akwesasne’s copious oil sands. Franken’s two top oil corporations will have representatives on the meeting. The next day he will visit a selection of cultural and educational facilities in Nürnberg. Wednesday will be concluded with a panel discussion on foreign policy hosted by the renowned Königliches Institut für Außen- und Verteidigungspolitik (Royal Institute for Foreign and Defence Policy). On Thursday he will go to Würzburg, which is the Kingdom’s largest and most important port. If Franken was to import Akwesasne’s oil sands, they would be processed in the city’s large refineries.

 Awkesane’s Prime Minister Joseph Hendrick has almost finished his visit to the Kingdom of Franken. Up to now his stay has been mutually profitable for both sides, as Ministerpresident Graf Peter Solms and his colleague brokered the basis for several economic and political deals. Most importantly, Hendrick signed a preliminary agreement asking the two major Franconian oil companies to begin exploration works within the next few weeks. Once the exploration period has finished, the companies will present their offers to the government of Awkesane. “For the sake of transparency as well as business acumen commanding it, this exploration period is a necessary phase. After all, we have a responsibility towards our stakeholders,” Hubert Meuer, senior manager of Fränkische Rohstoffe explained. Yesterday evening Joseph Hendrick participated in a panel discussion on the development of Awkesane’s region in Europe and how Franken ought to act there hosted by the Königliche Institut für Außen- und Verteidigungspolitik. His contributions were hailed as fresh and innovative input by the audience and fellow panel members.

 Following a formal request for administrative and legal assistance, His Majesty’s Government promised the government of Carentania to assist them with the retrieval of the Crown of Carentania. According to the documents forwarded to Franconian authorities there’s reason to believe a Franconian subject acquired the crown. Since a legal reform in 2006 some of the Franconian prosecution agencies were assigned specialist tasks. For example, Würzburg’s prosecutors take over all piracy cases, while trafficking of arts and other valuable artifacts looked after by Erlangen’s prosecution agency. Oberstaatsanwalt Christoph Kerner, who leads the specialist department with in Erlangen’s prosecution service, promised a careful look at the facts.

To all my Franconian counter-parts,

I would like to start by thanking his Majesty the King of Franken's government for giving me a warm welcoming in a nation wich we hope to have built some sort of landmark tie after so long. The discussions I have participated in have been very insightlful as to where we will go from here and it has even brought along an oil deal which will profit both Franken and Akwesasne as we establish ourselves within Europe.

Culturally, it was eye-opening and stunning to be in Franken once again after so long. My wife Laura and I both enjoyed and stay as did the Minister of Foreign Affairs. We will gladly host Franconian delegates in Akwesasne any day.

Sincerely,

Prime Minister Joseph Hendrick

 A major institution run by the European Defence Federation may soon see some significant changes: The Bank for European Settlements, i.e. the coordination centre for the EDF’s monetary institutions, is up for re-modeling according to a memorandum from the Staatskanzlei. At next EDF summit Franken wants to propose turning the BES into a multilateral body called Council for European Settlements, which will see to the coordination of the EDF’s central banks’ and monetary institutions’ efforts. Besides, a yet to be named multilaterally owned bank is to be established, which will be involved in organizing loans to selected projects and actively investing, both inside and outside the EDF. However, it should be noted this is a memorandum of single member-state and will certainly see some changes throughout the discussion at the next EDF summit.

 The “quest for the lost crown”, as the spokesman for the Würzburg Crown Prosecution Service jokingly put it, progresses but slowly. According to Oberstaatsanwalt Christoph Kerner, who heads the inquiry into the supposedly stolen and illegally sold crown of Carentania, his team is busy evaluating the documents forwarded by the Carentanian authorities. “Before we start vain and useless advances, we have to be up to date with their investigation results.” Art theft experts surmised the crown might have been sold via Danzig, whose loose commercial laws do little to impede this kind of businesses.

 Fränkische Rohstoffe (FRO), Pegnitz Vereinte Bergbau (PVBB) have dispatched prospector and exploration teams to Awkesame to evaluate and analyse the oil sand fields they have agreed to take over during the visit of Premier Hendrick to Franken. In about two weeks the teams will return to their corporate headquarters and the ‘main teams’ will be sent, who are to see to the construction and/or procurement of the necessary facilities. FRO and PVBB are Franken’s two major players in the natural resources business.

 In a government question time session the opposition quizzed His Majesty’s Government on how they would deal with the republic of Trans-Niniveh’s recent antics and misbehavior. The Greens were particularly interested in learning why Franken would actually tolerate blatant human rights violations instead of leading an intervention to liberate the enslaved people in Himyar. Their chief whip cited reports on police tortures by Franconian human rights watchdog organisations. “While there’s no doubt Trans-Niniveh’s regime has a very particular and unique idea about interpreting human rights, which is also influenced by their different culture, we should not forget any open intervention would come at a cost. We need to assess the various cost factors and engage the regional powers. Indeed, I’m delighted to tell you that we are in constant contact with the government of Hajr. If the situation aggravates even more, we are prepared to hold ad-hoc consultations with our Himyari friends,” Foreign Minister Robert Beaumont von Miltenberg told the Abgeordnetenhaus on behalf of the government.

 According to foreign policy analysts there’s no political or macroeconomic reason for the two Franconian mining giants, i.e. PVBB and Fränkische Rohstoffe (FRO) to pull out of Trans-Niniveh. However, whether the current price spikes for noble earths at Franken’s commodity exchange will be of a permanent nature depends on how well the government of Trans-Niniveh manages to secure their mining regions. Both PVBB and FRO extract a significant portion of rare earths from Trans-Ninvehian deposits, which in turn feed the high-tech industry of Franken and several abutters of the Kingdom. Therefore, it’s not unlikely to assume both the Auswärtiges Amt and the Ministry for Economic Affairs will pay a lot of attention to the domestic affairs of the republic, even if they officially sing along to the tunes of the “song of national sovereignty.”

 In the run-up to the Computer Chaotenclub (CCC)’s upcoming congress on freedom in the age of the IT society, there has been a viable clash of opinions in Franken’s blogosphere. While the congress’ organization team leader Aadrien Vanbeust blasted His Majesty’s Government and the regional governments for being obsessed and infatuated with surveillance and national security questions, a couple of more Christian Democratic-leaning bloggers lashed out against him and criticized Vanbeust for catering to the destabilizing elements in the society. The congress’ motto will be “Privatsphäre und Sicherheit: Sicherheit durch Freiheit von Überwachung“ (Privacy and safety: Safety through liberty from surveillance). Aadrien Vanbeust is a naturalized Batavian, who fled from the communist dictatorship with his family in the 1990s. Since the middle of the first decade of the new century he has become an outspoken advocate for privacy and freedom from excessive surveillance in the internet. “I didn’t flee one dictatorship to become trapped in a new autocracy a decade later. I want my children to grow up in a free society,” he explains readers in his most recent blog entry.

DULWICH, SUNDAY, 20th MARCH 2011
_____________________________________________

The Right Honourable The Secretary of State has received the Command of Her Engellexic Majesty The Queen to make known the following gracious Statement of Her Engellexic Majesty to the Chiefs and Princes of Franken.

Extension of The Queen's Statement in Council.

TO THE CHIEFS AND PRINCES OF FRANKEN

It is to be expressed, upon instruction of Her Engellexic Majesty;

What has been attained by way of the constancy and tolerance in the relations between the Union of Great Engellex and the European Defence Federation, through firmness without menace, and agreement without weakness, ought to be satisfactory to the Governments and the countries of the Federation.

The course intended to adopt by the leadership for the extension of the Federation’s projection capabilities in Nikosia has given a highly unfavourable impression of the disposition and future intentions of the European Defence Federation. The Federation, developed in her commerce, extending through her influence the principles of liberty and democracy, would be a nobler neighbour to Great Engellex than a Federation weakened by extension - exhausted by a grasping ambition.

It is to be understood that Her Engellexic Majesty has mobilised herself and Court to establish an accord on conditions which should agree with the Sovereigns of Our Nations, that would accommodate our interests well in agreement, against potential misunderstanding.

By the Grace of GOD, of the UNION of GREAT ENGELLEX, CHARLOTTE, the QUEEN, through the Right Honourable the SECRETARY of STATE, ANTHONY PELHAM-HOLLES

The République would like to invite representatives of Franconian mining companies to investigate and expand upon current operations in the mineral deposits of our northern regions. The Government, furthermore, would like to host a diplomatic conference where we would like to meet with all the members of the EDF and discuss economic matters.

Sincerely,
Mme. Elisabeth Mercelierre
Secretary of Foreign Relations

The Kingdom of Franken would like to thank the Republic of Serenierre for its invitation. Our mining companies will send their prospector teams haste-poste-haste to evaluate opportunities. On account of the proposed EDF conference we are also prepared to serve as a proxy for the alliance and forward any proposals to our allies for further deliberation.

 With the conflict between Nicosia and Solaren aggravating, the Kingdom of Franken and her EDF allies are preparing to relocate significant military forces to protect the integrity of the Kingdom of Nicosia. Things have been worsened by the Solaren government’s refusal to release the thousands of Nicosians it is holding hostage. To meet the Solaris’ claimed concern over the safety and well-being of the Nicosians, Franken has offered to asylum to the quasi-prisoners. “There’s hardly any doubt about Solaren shedding crocodiles’ tears over their involuntary guests’ fate. Our benevolence is highly limited, which is stressed by our alliance’s military presence in the region,” Foreign Minister Robert Beaumont von Miltenberg told journalists. Since he is currently standing in for Ministerpresident Graf Solms, Graf Miltenberg added “We are engaged in negotiations with the Lorraine government to aid their government with protecting the alliance’s border with Solaren” Experts believe this will essentially mean the permanent relocation of one or two brigades to Franken’s southern neighbour. Two Royal Army brigades have been confirmed to be sent to Lorraine as reserve and back-up forces. Domestically Franconia-based followers of the cult of Solaris are routinely observed by the Landesamt für Verfassungsschutz due to their anti-constitutional goals.

 To help defusing the international spat on Vangala’s use of nuclear energy between the People’s Republic and the empire of Sinhai, Franken joins an international group to visit the nuclear facilities, which Sinhai believes to harbor a nuclear weapon development department. Alongside the Franconian Kingdom eminent nations such as Hajr have been invited to inspect the plants by Vangala. Franken’s team will be comprised of nuclear researchers from Knut Knýtling University of Erlangen (KKU), which hosts the country’s foremost scientists on nuclear energy and proliferation issues. “Analogously to trials in courts of justice we will give Vangala the benefit of the doubt until our experts have proved the contrary,” Economics Minister Franziska Unsteet responded to criticism Franken wasn’t impartial. Unsteet’s ministry officially oversees Franken’s energy plants.

 An invitation to an International Nuclear Energy Conference hosted by Serbovia has been very positively received by His Majesty’s Government, our sources with the government have told FR Europa. Minister of Economics and Technology Franziska Unsteet, whose ministry is in charge of Franken’s energy policy, announced she would lead Franken’s delegation to the conference. “His Majesty’s Government will do what it can to encourage our country’s stakeholders to join the summit. The Serbovian leadership has demonstrated they are rightfully a recognized international player,” she declared according to pundits. The above mentioned energy pundits from KKU of Erlangen are very likely to advertise their recent pet project in terms of nuclear energy efficiency and security, if it actually takes place: They have been done a lot of gruntwork in researching the use of Thorium, which they claim is less hazardous than plutonium. Moreover, it couldn’t be used for weaponry.

 The Solaris affair keeps on dominating public discussions: While there’s generally sympathy for Nicosia’s apology and their goal to have their people back, even senior members of parliament of the government party CVP have criticized His Majesty’s Government for allowing Nicosia to set a very dangerous precedent and de facto blowing up the EDF’s image. According to some public polls there’s but a slim majority approving the move de facto orchestrated by Ministerpresident Graf Solms. From Nicosia Graf Peter Solms told journalists “It pays to have a second glance on issues. As you may recall, the ruler of Solaren has a very particular idea of the principle pacta sunt servanda. We are very busy cooking up a proper response, Ladies and Gentlemen.” The Ministerpresident’s enigmatic comment could be considered a hint towards a tough next step by the alliance, especially in the light of the busy troop movements. For the second time since the establishment of the military passage agreement with Wendmark, local observers and informants confirmed the passing of military trains and convoys through the Germanic Free State.

 Considering the territorial proximity of Solaren it’s probably no surprise Trans-Niniveh slipped from top agenda of the public and politics. Nonetheless, it’s still relevant for Franken, especially due to its rich supplies of noble earths. This week the Commerzblatt, a leading national paper focusing on economics and business reports, published a large report about PVBB’s and FRO’s local involvement and how their assets were confiscated. This report led to Economic Affairs Minister Unsteed being quizzed by a very curious opposition during question time. Senior opposition members of the Abgeordnetenhaus questioned the moral justification for Franconian mining companies getting involved there. “His Majesty’s Government shall do its utmost to restore stability and agreeable living conditions to the Trans-Ninivehians of good faith and loyalty to the liberals,” the Minister promised. Political analysts believe His Majesty’s Government will use the Solaris matter to make the public forget about the details of the deals with Trans-Niniveh and focus on stressing the noble earths’ importance for employment rates in Franken. “At the end of the day Otto and Lisa Normalverbraucher (1) care more about their source of income to finance their life,” a senior analyst with the Königliche Institut für Außen- und Sicherheitspolitik believes.

 Despite originally planning to have Franken’s ambassador represent the kingdom at large at the funeral of Walstadt’s late former president Maximilian Schreck, the Royal Household announced the brother of Prince Regent Jakob, His Royal Highness Duke Nikolaus of Rhönland, special trade envoy of the kingdom, will represent the Sovereign alongside the ambassador, who is actually only co-accredited to Walstadt. At the Prince’s side will be his wife, the ever-so elegant Aren princess Kristina, which will give the Franconian delegation more splendor. This announcement earned the Prince Regent and His Majesty’s Government some raised eyebrows, since it was only a few hours after Serbovia’s regent confirming his personal presence. A representative of the Private Secretary of the Household, who also oversees media relations, told journalists it’s a standard practice to have senior members of the royal house attend state funerals if the King or Prince Regent cannot do so.

 Finally following its allies’ path, His Majesty’s Government initiated measures to evacuate the few Franconians in Solaren, freezing assets of Solaris cult sympathizers and setting Solari citizens an ultimatum to leave the country. Other than Eiffelland or Nicosia Franken had maintained only indirect relations with the autocratic regime since the 1970s when both countries had one of their many diplomatic falling outs. Until the recent developments Franconian interests were looked after by the Eiffellander embassy in Torrence. In the late Seventies police discovered a murder plot against King Jakob, father of King Alfred IV and the Prince Regent’s grandfather, and the evidence pointed towards Torrence, but they denied any involvement. While the Royal Household and the police have refused to disclose any evidence or documents – under current law they’ll be kept locked for 100 years – experts aren’t so sure whether the suspected failed assassin was truly sponsored by the theocracy. He died from an unfortunate accident during a training session in prison in 1986.

 April 1st is traditionally the day people play each other friendly pranks. Some companies have become notoriously famous for their carefully concocted April Fool’s jokes and they have become an informal part of their marketing routine. Occasionally even authorities or ministries join the fray. Today the Royal Household’s internet page featured an article about one of Nuremberg Zoo’s penguins being shortlisted to be admitted to one of Franken’s Orders of Chivalry.

 With Walstadt changing its form of government to that of a parliamentary monarchy, the eastern realms will possibly see the brand new light. Walstadt’s history dates back several centuries and its citizens have Germanic, particularly Franconian roots. The ancient Königlich-Fränkische Gesellschaft für Seehandel, i.e. the privately-run precursor to Franken’s colonial authorities, used what is now modern Walstadt as one of its most eastern trading posts. Its new princess claims to be a descendant of the last Shogun of Touzen. According to sources from within the Auswärtiges Amt it is planned to install an independent embassy at the new sovereign princess’ court as a sign of goodwill.

 While the weeks go by and the EDF is buckling up to protect Lorraine, Eiffelland and Nicosia from the vicious regime of Solaren, the dictator himself or his lackeys haven’t been in touch with world for a relative long period. Senior government officials from Franken and other involved countries didn’t want to share much of their insight with journalists so eagerly, but it is a matter of fact Franken and her allies have to rely on satellites and other gadget to gather some intelligence about the theocracy. Meanwhile, Franconian authorities have stepped up efforts to tackle operations of the Solaris Church in the Kingdom. On grounds of a request for assistance by Aquitania regarding the recent series of attacks police raided several flats of suspected Solaris sympathisers.

 With the situation aggravating in Aresura, the civil war is about to become an issue for the European Defence Federation, too. The troubled country lies very near the western sphere of influence of the alliance. Via phone conference the leaders of Franken, Guiana, Anglyn and Radilo discussed steps how to protect regional stability and thus the economic soundness of Boreas. “I have assured my colleagues in Anglyn, Guiana and Radilo Franken will contribute to any mission by the EDF to help improve the situation in Aresura. However, it should be noted military movements will be coordinated from the Western military hq of the alliance in Winchester,” Ministerpresident Graf Solms told journalists this morning. Pundits estimate the degree of Franken’s future involvement to be tantamount to logistic, intelligence and naval support, as those can be deployed more easily and more rapid.

 Whereas Anglyn has Aresura to look after and deal with, there’s still Oelar for Franken to tame. These days it’s threatening to splinter into several obscure statelets. It’s not unlikely His Majesty’s Government will use the deployment of the Royal Armed Forces as one of the pawns in the challenges to come.

 In regard of the continuously bad situation in Aresura His Majesty’s Government continues to maintain it’s best to have regional players resolve the quarrels. “We will do everything to enable our local allies to provide assistance to the poor people of Aresura and – above all – ensure stability. Without it the people of Aresura won’t be able to put their nation’s future on a sound basis,” Ministerpresident Graf Solms commented on the matter. When asked whether the promise of assistance would also include a military option, he replied: “There’s still Solaren for us to look after. But if their regime remains as quiet as they do now, I believe we will have some resources to relocate.”

 Since the rumours had been roaming too rampantly, the Foreign Office finally admitted Oelar’s seceded south-eastern was holding three Franconian nationals custody on grounds of espionage today. According to Foreign Minister Graf Robert Beaumont von Miltenberg the two men and one woman are senior government officials, who had been sent for negotiations to Knýtlingsfort and got trapped in an ambiguous situation. “For security purposes the Auswärtiges Amt will not disclose any personal information. Naturally we’re doing our very best to help the local authorities clarifying this unfortunate confusion,” the Foreign Minister explained to the press. Astute observers have also quickly identified an increase in border security alongside the shared boundaries. This was announced through a mere bulletin by the Interior Ministry, which oversees the border police.

 A good-will tour by Prinzregent Jakob through the west is currently discussed between the Royal Household and His Majesty’s Government. Apparently the Prince Regent and Ministerpresident Graf Peter Solms want to re-emphasize Franken is open to the non-EDF countries in the region, too. Key destinations would be Brettaine as well as the EDF allies Aquitaine, Guiana and Anglyn. The Anglyian Kingdom is particularly important for Franken, as it is one of the EDF’s co-founders alongside Franken. Whether Sernierre would see the first visit of a Franconian head of state in its republican history isn’t quite sure. However, two past royal visits to officially communist Vangala by King Alfred IV should set a sufficient precedent for a visit to Sernierre by his son.

 Thus far the royal tour by Prince Regent Jakob, his wife Duchess Franziska Isabella has been a full success in terms of asserting political goodwill for Franken as well as striking hard business deals for Franconia. Foreign Minister Graf Robert Beaumont von Miltenberg praised the Prince Regent’s excellent performance on the international stage for the benefit of Franken: “One of the tour’s key objectives of the tour has been achieved already, although there are still some countries to go: We have successfully demonstrated that Franken is not the power-hungry giant across the sea but a partner open for the concerns of its friends and associates.” Pundits decypher this as an insinuation to the more blatantly ideologizing foreign policy shown by Touzen. The tour’s next stop will be Aquitania, followed by Brettaine. The final stop will be in Sernierre, as confirmed by the Royal Household today.

 Albeit it’s definitely not part of the EDF’s core business, there has been an initative by the Nicosian delegation to discuss a cross-borders framework for education. According to the Nicosian proposal EDF countries will negotiate agreements on mutual recognition of education degrees and certificates, easier student exchange and designating research universities of excellence. The ideas put forward by the Nicosians has been met with general interest, but the head of the Franconian EDF mission told FRE that there’s much room for discussion left.

 The Sernierre-led initiative to form the Northwestern Collective Security Coalition has been welcomed by His Majesty’s Government. “A globally orientated alliance such as the European Defence Federation can only do so much. It’s in the interest of our Northwestern EDF partners to join regional associations, too. That way they can fill the gaps the EDF cannot close due to its sheer global expansion. Franken will follow the organisation’s development with great interest,” Ministerpresident Graf Solms commented the NCSC’s establisment.

 Is there trouble in paradise or just a group of people trying to provoke a violent reaction? The debate on the new self-appointed role of Cantigny as a guardian of democracy and freedom caused great amusement amongst all factions in the House of Representatives. "Even if Anglyn's involvement in Bombaim or Tongola could be considered anachronistic from our point of view, it's both hypocritical and inappropriate for Cantigny and/or Engellex to assume the role of guardian of civilian rights. Neither Engellex nor Cantigny have demonstrated any respect for women's rights, Engellexic politics are mainly dominated by an unelected upper house and you could almost call the lesser classes of Cantigny disenfranchised from the political process. Moreover, there's the issue of Engellex's very own overseas territories, whose administration aren't shiny examples of democracy, either," Green Party Chief Whip Josefine Steuber told her fellow representatives. In the course of the discussion Ministerpresident Graf Solms confirmed that Franken had offered solid support to Anglyn: "Prime Minister Swann knows my phone number, so to speak. Whatever he requires us to do and is feasible for us, will be done. We have full trust in our ally's capabilities, nonetheless." According to pundits it's likely that solid support may even go as so far as sending an aircraft carrier or AAR group to the tropical paradise.

 While Cannie shenanigans occupy Franken's foreign policy, the Schatzamt (Treasury) and their Economic Affairs Ministry colleagues have been monitoring the trade war between the Celtic and NC nations very closely and carefully. If first estimates are to be believed, Franken's economy as a whole will suffer mildly from the conflict's impact, as the NC is only one of many trade partners. However, companies with large exposure to the NC in terms of sales and/or exports may take larger hits, possibly even fatal ones. Senior Treasury officials expect most victims amongst the logistics companies focussing on organising Batavian business. Other Companies involved with Arendaal and/or Batavia might see plummeting yield due to exchange rate losses, but if they happened to maintain Aren or Batavian branch offices they could just bide their time, provided they have enough spare liquid assets from other operations in Europe. On the very bright side, commodity imports from Batavia will remain ridiculously cheap for a while.
