Where countries such as the Kingdoms of Montelimar and Eiffelland raise no objections, one wonders why exactly Lorraine is. Belmont is being frank and open and promoting transparency.

Furthermore, as stated, Belmont has only itself to count on for its primary defense and official policy remains to be prepared for any eventuality, all the while maintaining a policy of no-first strike in any form of warfare.

Though we care little for the disputes between Belmont and Lorraine, the Republic is very much concerned about the obvious build up of both conventional and nuclear weapons by the military of Belmont. Such a build-up of arms and the opening of Belmontian bases to Greater Sarmatian forces is not considered a act of peace but of intimidation.

We are encouraged by the responsible and transparent approach that the Belmontian government is exercising around the issue of its defence policy.

The lack of objections from Montelimar or Eiffelland concerning this matter is totally inconsequential, and though HM government is not in the habit of agreeing with the government of Coronado, in this case we too are in the opinion that the announcement of the expansion of the Belmont's nuclear forces is one designed to intimidate those that may critisize the policies of Paris.

Commonwealth of Cornavia

While the Commonwealth government echoes the Eiffelland and Montelimar governments in commending Belmont over its openness in regards to its maintained nuclear arsenal, and recognizes the hazards inherent in the nearby presence of a regime with known sympathies towards Europe's Communist cliques, we also express our worry that policies of greater armament could invite greater instability in the region.

Indeed, as it stands, much of the West enjoys highly valuable peace and prosperity and its maintenance should be the goal of all regional governments.

Regards,
Mr. William Fenner,
Minister of External Affairs

The sentiments expressed by the Ministry of External Affairs of the Commonwealth of Cornavia shows the level of responsibility needed to be maintained by other states in the region.

And the Commonwealth has every right to raise a concern for regional stability but we must respectfully disagree with them on the matter.

LORD MAYOR OF MARSEILLES PASSES AWAY
Charles Venierre, aged 89, dies of natural causes at home

Earlier today, the Venierre family announced that its patriarch, and Lord Mayor of Marseilles for the past 34 years, had passed away in his sleep due to natural causes, he was 89. He leaves behind four children, fifteen grandchildren and thirty one great-grandchildren. His wife died in 2007. The family announced that his will would be read by the family advocate to them after the funeral.

Mr. Venierre was, before entering politics, a businessman and made a large fortune for himself, estimated to be around Fr. 650 - 980 million and had holdings in real estate worth an additional Fr. 210 million in the Grand Duchy of Couserans and the Dominion of Visidame, two Realms of the Belmontien Crown.

Out of all the mayors of the cities of the Kingdom, the Lord Mayor of Marseilles tends to get more media coverage than others and Charles Venierre had the distinction of being one of the most recognized local politicians. Holding the office since 1976, when he won the special election called to replace his predecessor who was implicated in the Roislette Scandal, and had one of the most successful electoral histories in Belmont, winning every election since then.

The Provincial Government of Côte de Azur, the province where Marseilles is, has announced that a special election will be held to replace Mr. Venierre as Mayor, the date of which shall be announced in due course of time and until then, the Duke of Marseilles shall undertake the responsibilities of the Lord Mayor, as stipulated in the Local Governments Act 1936.

ARCHBISHOP OF PARIS SPEAKS OUT AGAINST NEW STANCE OF HOLY SEE ON HOMOSEXUALITY
Calls move against the canon, the teachings of Christ and the Bible, polls finds 74.3% agree with him

The Archbishop of Paris is the senior most figure of the Catholic Church in Belmont, currently Xavier Cardinal Lépicier, and wields immense clout in the Kingdom and has, according to several polls, a stronger support base in Belmont than Pope Stéphane IV, himself. And taking that into account, His Eminence the Archbishop of Paris has issued his disapproval of the Holy See's new policy. In a letter issued by his office, he is quoted as saying that Pope Stéphane IV has "made the line dividing secularist ideals and the Canon obscure and hard to discern." He called that unacceptable.

This controversial decision by the Holy See comes after just a few months His Holiness was elected in a conclave which saw Belmont's cardinals abstaining from the votes, as reported by some sources but unconfirmed as of date, and this move serves to potentially alienate and shrink His Holiness' rapidly shrinking realm even faster. By alienating strong Catholic countries, such as Belmont where 75% are Catholic in some form or the other, and poses to further divide the Catholic Church at a time where it needs unity from within.

The announcement, alone, has managed to incite violence against Christian communities in Sinhai and, across many Islamic countries, the Christian community has been put under increased scrutiny.

Gay rights organizations in Belmont have responded by stating that the Pope's effort was commendable but ill thought out and would result in violence against the community; Christians in foreign countries and the LGBT community in Catholic countries. The Director of one of the groups, a committed Catholic, he told us, said that he preferred the Church's old policy of not asking and not interfering in the personal lives of its followers and saw the announcement as an attempt to control the lives of gay couples as the Church had done for straight couples for centuries.

In a poll conducted on this website, with 76,000 people voting, we found that 74.3% disagreed with the Holy See and were in support of the Archbishop's stance on the matter. A telling sign, perhaps, that His Holiness Stéphane IV might be unable to keep Christendom united. Though we hope that is not the case.

There always will be differences between the local churches in different parts of the world. We have a deep impression the website is trying to create a controversy where there is no need to.

Foreign Ministry of Arendaal

Many Churches of Arendaal have issued statements of concern over the position of the Archbishop of Paris. Taking a stance promoting greater tolerance is to be applauded by all groups who wish to see a more just and accepting word. In this light, although there is some concern with the second statement of the Pope's speech, overall the Aren people feel that the statement is a display of understanding and must be accepted as such. The faithful in Arendaal urge the Belmontien Archbishop to reconsider his stance on the matter

It is His Majesty's inquiry to the government of Arendaal if they are in opposition to His Eminence, Pope Stéphane IV's as opposition to that new policy is the stance of Archbihop of Paris.

Not at all, quite the contrary - the position of the Archbishop provoked support only in extreme quarters while eliciting concern in most others. The Pope's letter has been seen as a welcome challenge to hostility towards homosexuality and a step towards a more tolerant world

NATIONALISTES & LIBERALISTES TO MEET IN MARSEILLES
Hope to discuss matters of compromise and cooperation for coming year

In an effort to improve the bipartisanship which has plagued Belmontien politics for the past year and a half, the senior leadership of both the national power blocs has agreed to meet in Marseilles to discuss potential areas of cooperation and those of compromise. The meeting was proposed to Premier Martinique by the opposition leader, Mr. Rebinaud, and has the support of HRH The Prince Regent, who called the meeting "long overdue." Since the announcement of the news, the media across the country have been hailing the decision as a godsend but some politicians, especially those in the Nationalistes' more conservative sections, have voiced their reservations but have, to date, not completely opposed the meeting.

The Governor of the Province of Côte de Azur has volunteered to host the talks at his official residence, it is expected that several provincial political groups shall attend the meeting to air their concerns. Another similar meeting is planned in Fougères between the national government, representatives of the Opposition and the Government of the Protectorate of Tréguier, a constituent realm of the Kingdom of Belmont, to discuss the problems that realm is having in regards to profits share from the coal mining industry set up within its territory. It is expected that the meeting in Marseilles is a "test run" for the bigger meeting in Fougères.

HRH PRINCESS ÉLISE DISTANCES SELF FROM AREN GOVERNMENT STATEMENTS
In attempt to keep away from religious and political controversy

HRH Princess Élise of Montaigne has been put in an awkward position by the statements issued by the Aren Ministry of Foreign Affairs in regards to the Archbishop of Paris' comments on the Catholic Church's new stance on homosexuality. The newly married princess has spoken to some journalists and has said that she was in agreement with the Archbishop that the previous policy of not interfering in people's personal lives was best and she said that as a recent convert to Catholicism, she had read the texts carefully and found every reason to support the Archbishop.

As a future Queen of Belmont, albeit a Consort, The Princess of Montaigne's support of the Archbishop sets her at odds with her homeland's government and her opinion has taken the world of Belmontien tabloid journalism by storm. Though in Arendaal the Royal Family remains above the fray of politics, in Belmont the Royal Family and its members are encouraged to voice their opinions and it seems Princess Élise, long considered the intellectual among the newest Royal generation in Arendaal, has taken a liking to the Belmontien customs. Sources confirm that she has spoken to the Aren Prime Minister and that both have agreed to respect the other's stance on the matter.

PARLIAMENT DENIES TO GRANT VANGALA AID PACKAGE
Chambre des Communes votes 433-217 to cancel aid package to Kilkila over concerns over involvement in N Ratomkiran insurgency

Yesterday's vote of the Chambre des Communes resulted in a surprise result, much to the dislike of the Premier, which saw the Vangalan aid package worth Fr.550 million voted down over MC's concerns about the Vangalan funding of the north Ratomkiran insurgents. The vote has severely damaged the prospects of the trade agreement between Vangala and Belmont from being ratified and has resulted in the Premier calling on the Ambassador of Vangala to discuss the situation. The situation has further been complicated by sections of Vangalan opposition parties setting up in Orleans.

The Chambre des Communes Committee for Foreign Affairs has said that if Vangala can prove it is not supporting terrorists in Ratomkira, the aid package shall be granted. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belmont has issued a statement that called for calm and asked the Vangalan Government to be patient and wait for the situation to calm down. The Ministry also said that Vangala must convince the international community that it is not collaborating with insurgents and terrorists.

We applaud the 'Chambre des Communes' for refusing to allow its Premier to indirectly fund the KKP separatists in Northern Ratomkira. If Belmont, which used to be a very good friend of our nation, would go even further and sever all ties with the terrorist-state. Then, and only then, would relations between our two nations normalize.

Belmont has been deceived by the propagandists in Siem Khun. The People's Republic of Vangala is one of the fiercest opponents of international terrorism and suggestions to the contrary are greatly insulting. Furthermore, the friendship between Vangala and North Ratomkira is non-negotiable. We suggest Paris focus on the atrocious human rights situation in South Ratomkira, where the murderous military dictatorship has killed hundreds of innocents in brutal political repressions.

The Government can do nothing unless the People's Republic of Vangala doesn't stop pointing the finger at others and reveals to the international community in a transparent inquiry that it does not, in fact, support the northern Ratomkiran terrorists. The Government isn't just focusing on Kilkila at this moment but the situation in Ratomkira differs greatly from that in Vangala.

The People's Republic of Vangala does not have to prove its innocence to Belmont or the international community. The military cabal in Siem Khun has not provided any substantive or reliable evidence to support its baseless accusations. Belmont should stop defending the murderers who control South Ratomkira and change its attitude towards Vangala, which is currently not conducive to improving bilateral ties.
