It is the most sincere wish of His Majesty, His Majesty's Government, and the Breotish People that Thomas Martinique experience a full recovery. Our best wishes and condolences go the Premier, the Martinique family, and the People of Belmont. We humbly accept the donation given to us by Belmont, a nation who has wisely stopped flirting with the Vangalan terrorist-communists state. After the events of the past week it is safe to say that the ties between our two fine nations have been largely restored after the dramatic break-down. However we will remain vigilant about the members of the Belmonti government, most prominently Premier Martinique, who still support trading with Vangala. We look positive towards the future. The very generous donation will be used largely in the war effort against the Northern separatists, but also to help restore the damage that the former royalist regime as well as the communists did to our economy and democracy. May the once strong relation between Belmont and Ratomkira soon flourish once again.

Furthermore, despite our many differences, we show our deepest sympathies to the husband of the Belmonti Premier. May he soon recover from this terrible act of violence.

BOTCHED ASSASSINATION ATTEMPT ON PREMIER INJURES HUSBAND SERIOUSLY
Benjamin Martinique shot in the chest at Leblanc commemoration in Paris

After an all night surgery which aimed to repair the damage to Benjamin Martinique's chest and lungs, hospital officials have announced that he is out of danger but his situation remains critical, as of the time of posting, and that the bullet had barely missed the heart. Doctors said that had Mr. Martinique not been brought to the hospital when he was, he would have died of blood loss. Premier Martinique, it has been reported, has continued with her duties and arrived early today at her office and has been working on as usual. The Premier has also called another cabinet meeting to discuss the situation in depth. When talking to officials, we have found out that they are 100% sure that the attack was an attempt on the Premier's life that had gone wrong for some reason.

The Institut de Sécurité d'État (ISE) has been under fire from the national press for failing to be prepared for the attack and for being unable to find the perpetrator. The Minister of the Interior, Jean-François Chossy, has taken full charge of the investigation and has already informed some members of the press that his ministry and the ISE had information coming from very reliable sources and that soon a brief report would be issued. When pressed for the details, Minister Chossy declined to comment. After yesterday's attack, many political talks shows have been playing a guessing game, with blame being shifted onto the Orléans mafia, communist terrorists and even some sore Plantardite politicians, to name a few.

The shooting, which occurred in the Hélène Park, has shaken the capital, long considered a very safe city. The people of the capital city have also been traumatized by the shooting and for the most part the capital's many roads seemed deserted and a heavy presence of police and Rangers could be seen. The Ministry of the Interior dispatched the high number of law enforcement officials due to the ongoing hostage crisis in Cornavia and threats that something similar might be planned in Paris.

Security today is tight as well with the Government Quarter of the city only open to the vehicles with high level access; ie Ministers and Members of the two Chambers of Parliament (MCP) as well as the members of the bureaucracy working in the ministries. The security around the Château de Charbonne, the official residence of HM The Queen, HRH The Prince Regent and his wife, along with several high ranking members of the Royal Family, is much tighter than usual. Palace officials have said that they are following Government directives in the security protocol and considering an attempt earlier in the year by a Wieser man to enter illegally.

On behalf of the entire Cornavian people which itself has recently experienced similar acts of terror, the Commonwealth government condemns the attempted assassination of Premier Martinique and its still tragic consequences, and urges the Belmontien administration to exhaust every available means in catching the perpetrators.

Regards,
Mr. William Fenner,
Minister of External Affairs

Appendix - To Belmontien government - Secret - Eyes Only

In relation to speculation in Belmontien press concerning the effect of the recent events in the Northern Cantons, we wish to note that current threat assessments indicate that Nordisk Frihet has no will or capability to operate outside of the Commonwealth's Northern Cantons of Farpoint and Iron Islands. Thus, there is no direct and immediate effect of the ongoing events in the Commonwealth upon Belmont.

NORTHERN COUNCIL DEBATES CONTINUE, CONCERNS EXPRESSED OVER COMMON CURRENCY PLANS
Representative from Hilversum present in Chambre des Communes to observe proceedings

The Parliament of Belmont has restarted discussion over the country joining the preeminent economic bloc of the region. The preliminary debates, conducted by the Joint-Parliamentary Committee for Foreign Policy resulted in the Opposition supporting the Government in its decision to pursue the NC. But now, as the formal debates begin and the two sides test out theory against theory, the real test will begin for Belmont's bid to the NC.

When speaking to the Press Secretary of the Nationalistes, the opposition bloc, he said that his party was concerned about the NC's common currency objectives as it would mean an end of a seven hundred year old currency and would severely impede on Belmontien financial independence. He then commented on the NC Parliament, saying that his party was unsure as to what exact amount of control Hilversum would exert on memberstates and if the national legislatures still retained sovereignty or if they were below the NC Parliament.

The view is rejected by the ruling Libéralistes, who claim that the NC is a great opportunity for the economy, which has seen some bumps over the past few months due to the volatile international conditions and because of the threats posed by Coronado to the Kingdom. The ruling bloc, which controls just over 400 seats in 650 seat Chambre des Communes, has also said that the NC Parliament would not pose a threat to the Parliament of Belmont and that its sovereignty and supremacy remained intact regardless. On the matter of the common currency goals of the NC, the ruling bloc is in agreement with the opposition and has said that it would not be interested in dropping the franc anytime soon.

The process being followed for just submitting the bid to Hilversum is highly tedious and meticulous, on part that the Government is not wanting a repeat of the EDF fiasco. Sources have confirmed to us that the Government was taking extreme efforts to make sure that each every point was addressed and that when the Opposition was completely satisfied, a vote would be held. The vote is expected to take place sometime early next year.

Though the Republic cannot condone Paris' policy of support for criminal regimes such as the one in South Ratomkira, Coronado also cannot condone the assassination attempt on Premier Martinique's life. On behalf of the Socialist Republic of Coronado, we send our hopes that Sr. Martinique has a full recovery from his wounds.

The Ministry of Defense has announced that the armed forces have begun their initial phase of preparation for the upcoming wargames which will be the largest since 1991. The Minister of Defense has personally contacted the Ambassadors of all neighbors to allay any concerns they may have and has stressed that the drill and subsequent war games are to further train the men and women of the armed forces for the defense of the kingdom. The drill is expected to last for a two weeks. The war games are expected to begin in January 2011 though the MoD hasn't confirmed the date.

Opposition remains adamant to keep DB at current level: The Opposition has formally introduced legislation in Parliament which will freeze the defense budget at ƒ.146.8 billion ($.120.003 billion) for two years and scrap the Government's original plan to cut defense spending by 25%. The Opposition has stated that the threats to the Kingdom have come much closer to home now, with the reemerging of Coronado and the threat posed to Belmont from its eastern borders and the defense expenditure is important for maintaining the qualitative edge of the armed forces of Belmont, according to the Opposition Leader Mr. Rebinaud.

To prevent another political battle from spreading, the Government has thrown in its support in the initiative and the Libéralistes have asked their own MPs to either vote in favor of the legislation or to abstain.

Premier Martinique: Detente with communists will end if the northern Ratomkiran insurgents are still given recognition: The Premier has, in an interview, said that the detente with the communist states will end if the north Ratomkiran insurgents, the KKP, are given recognition any further and that Belmont would have to re-adopt the policies of the past in regards to the communists. The Premier also supported the Oikawan air raids against northern Ratomkiran insurgents in Na Treng. The Premier also called for CoN discussion to impose a global sanction against the north Ratomkiran KKP regime and its supporters.

Foreign Minister Renaudière to visit Breotonia over next two days : The Minister of Foreign Affairs has left Paris to meet with his counterpart in Lunden, Breotonia and discuss the issues plaguing the coastal fishing communities in both countries. The fishing disputes has been a nuisance for successive governments of both countries at various times since the late 1990s. The Belmontien fishing communities in northern Belmont have at times infringed on Breotonian fishing grounds and have been the main cause of the issue. Paris has taken a strong stance against them in the latest instance.

Leaked Govt. report draws caution towards Coronado

Hospital Sant-George where Mr. Benjamin Martinique has been transferred after being declared out of danger

Paris | Royaume de Belmont:
In an internal communique issued by the Premier's Office and meant for the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Interior and Ministry of Defense, according to highly reliable sources, which is outlining the findings of the preliminary report of the shooting of Benjamin Martinique and the attempted assassination of Premier Martinique. The report details the ISE operation to capture the culprit, who is in ISE custody and is awaiting interrogation, according to the report summary, and the raid on the house where he was living for some time.

In the same report, the summary categorically states that the EDF involvement remains "a dream for the conservatives but shows no sign of having occured in reality" and "if anything, the EDF simply stands irked at Paris' independence but not nearly enough to orchestrate criminal acts against the leadership in Paris." Though the report does state that the assassination attempt had foreign backing. In the next sentence, the report says that dispatches arriving from the Embassy in Toledo are worrying and show "increased hostility to Belmontien policies". But the preliminary report falls short of outright blaming Toledo for involvement in the attack or even financially supporting the culprit, instead simply drawing attention to Coronado, as a precaution.

The announcement of the report having leaked appeared online and has resulted in the Government of Belmont refusing to confirm or deny if it believed that Toledo was in fact behind any criminal acts in Belmont and the Embassy of Coronado in Paris has been contacted but calls have gone unanswered. The Government, however, has severely condemned the leak and has said that it would work with the opposition to control the leaks in government workings.

In the past few months, relations between the socialist state and the Kingdom have soured over several matters, chiefly among them the Coronadan recognition of the terrorist regime of the KKP in northern Ratomkira. The leak stands to worsen already brittle ties.

"The Opposition has stated that the threats to the Kingdom have come much closer to home" with "the threat posed to Belmont from its eastern borders..."

It is statements such as these that make HM government suspect that it is an attempt by the Kingdom of Belmont to justify, not only its defence spending but it may also indicate, though Paris has been adamant about a non-first strike policy, a precursor to a possible future military action against the Kingdom of Lorraine.

The Kingdom of Belmont wishes no ill to the Kingdom of Lorraine, a fellow sister state, and the Kingdom remains committed to maintaining a no-first strike policy.
