Parliament had instead lengthened the military mission to protect the territory and thus effectively put the issue on the hold for the foreseeable future. Chancellor Solveig Bakken was unhappy with the lack of the solution and made a shocking announce that ringed similar to announcement in March when Her Majesty's Government purchased a majority stake Krag-Jørgensen and their subsidiaries in order to grant the Sylvanian Government their jet plane research desired, to cancel the Austwegian debt and reaffirm their alliance. This time, the situation proved entirely different as Her Majesty's Government has instead used a similar idea to get what it wants. In what has continued to be called the Austwegian system of "State Capitalism" by pundits, Bakken announced the outright 100% purchase of Nordsjøen Kompagniet. This in turn has given the Bakken Government the outright ownership of the territory in question which she has stated is now considered sovereign Austwegian territory after the transaction. The cost, roughly amounting to 75 million Sylvanian Silverbacks. The Austwegian Government plans to recoup a great portion of this by selling approximately 49% of the company to private stock investors. The Nordsjøen Kompagniet, is one of the world's largest clothing and supply companies, selling in countries around the world, including Sylvania, Cantignia and large portions of Germania. The opposition Republican Party has condemned the action, suggesting that the action committed is a gross violation of the rights of the persons which inhabit the territory as no democratic referendum or option was granted to them. Insiders into Chancellor Bakken's Cabinet have suggested that she has been intrigued by the conflict for months and rumors surrounding her intrigue have not gone unnoticed by the opposition Republican Party. The Tripartite Powers, composed of Østveg, Sylvania, and Ivernia have kept shipping lines relatively free of troublesome activity in the region, but Admiral Jan Claesson has stated to the Bakken Government that the situation, "is not definitive, nor sustaining." So to speak, the Admiral has requested the ability to move in on pirate bases in Yujin with indiscriminate force. The idea is not new, as several Government leaders have spoken on the insistence of such a campaign, but the Navy had yet to be ordered to begin the campaign due reasons that can only be assumed as diplomatic. The diplomatic front, meanwhile being calm, the order seems to have been given to strike Yujin ports to prevent ships from coming and going in and out of ports that are suggested to contain pirate elements. Many fingers have pointed to Imperial Yujin controlled ports, and this may provoke open warfare with the Imperial Navy. Yet, other reports say pirate ships tend to originate from rebellion controlled ports. Surely a safer original avenue to cross should a prudent and safe approach to the region be deemed as important to the Bakken Government. The fact that the Austwegians are running this campaign is another point of interesting topic to many in Kristiania. Østveg was seen to be a far more junior partner in the Tripartite Power meetings by many, and the fact that it has taken the lead in this campaign, while of course also lowering military expenditures for the 1953-1954 fiscal year has turned some heads. Many are unsure if this means Østveg plans to turn over the campaign to another allied nation, especially as many have seen the Implarian as Sylvania's Ocean to maintain. No! —se side 3 i Utenlandske OPINION — The Austwegian Kingdom is something unlike many other European nations. It's a nation that had the fabric of its existence challenged and somehow made whole again without bloodshed. While the threat of such dismay always seemed near during the Agder Succession Crisis, town halls, local congresses and cool heads between military leaders led to a very cooperative conclusion to the crisis. This coming together, while unique in recent history, and especially important in the resurgence of Austwegian fortunes, has also created something a bit unique for the nation that plays out oddly in terms of historical precedent and language. What is a Queendom? The Queendom of Østveg is something that just doesn't immediately work with common naming conceptions. This oddity first hit Austwegian shores in the warmer months of summer. Some suggest it first came from the Ivernian Press, others the Cantignian or Sylvanian. Perhaps most of all are thoughts that it came from the Danes in an attempt to slander the young Queen Inger Lise. Officially Østveg is listed as a Kingdom. This owes to the historical precedent of Kings ruling in a paternal system. Naturally, when drafting the new Constitution that bounds the Austwegians, the term Kingdom was used. Yet, when the Folkting accepted the first Monarch bound to this Constitution, a woman was chosen. A Queen was crowned in the middle of a conflict, one that certainly stood to possibly have her killed that Christmas of 1952. Her strength and determination led the Austwegians to an independent path, free from Danish imperial designs. Her character came to define the country in the international press and naturally foreigners began to take notice of a seemingly newly designed nation led by a woman to be a Queendom, not bound by the misogyny so often preached by her enemies. Queendom is a different and perhaps difficult term for Austwegians though. Never before has there been anything other than the "Kongeriket" or "Kingdom" in the Austwegian language. Newly popular among the youth is the "Dronningeriket" or "Queendom," which is an entirely made up word. It does not exist in the Austwegian dictionary. Perhaps the new words shows the love given to the "Mor til nasjonen og folket" or "Mother to the nation and people." The Queen has proven herself popular in her promotion to social movements, and the education and advancement of women's causes. Founding the Austwegian Women's Progress Association, she was also elected it's first President. An interesting sign in that brought the democracy to the new Association. Not wanting to just make this her own pet project, she wants Austwegians to take responsibility. Her Majesty saying that she won't severe longer than five years as the Association's President. Queendom or Kingdom? It's a matter of semantics, but Austwegians, both men and woman have taken great pride in their Queen and surely being a Queendom will never be an insult to an Austwegian. Commonly referred to in the singular by the press and governments due to its singular position on the map, several small rocks surround it. Their unnamed status seems to lead to a pluralization of the name in several circles. This strange naming convention of singular to plural and sometimes singular again, has many heads scratching in Europe. The question is not one that has puzzled Austwegians, but instead the result of the conflict does instead. What result for the Faroe Island does Østveg prefer? Her Majesty's Government has followed the lead of the Sylvanian Government, much to the dismay of opinion polls and the opposition. The opposition-led Republican Party, railed against the Sylvanians for failing to adhere to their own democratic values. Written in the Republican Papers last week, "The Sylvanians will argue tooth and nail for the freedom of peoples, and the freedom from oppressive government. Yet when the question is posed to their own Occidental backyard, the question is moot." President Rygaard which traditionally is held in high regard in Østveg, has seen his popularity hit in Fey particularly. Fey which owes so much of its current health in the Union with Østveg to President Rygaard, seems to have cast a doubt in his leadership for failing to give the same opportunity to the Faroers. Queen Inger Lise, has kept mum on the topic, which many have suggested is a clear indication that she is not in support of the current actions held in the Great Sea. The suggestion is merely just that, a suggestion. The Queen has not typically involved herself in politics in her show of support towards the new Austwegian democratic system. Yet while the Bakken Government has not countered the Sylvanian path and plan for the Occident, it is clear that Austwegians are not in support. A small protest was found against Sylvanian sailors in Nidaros, while a rock was thrown through the window of the Sylvanian Embassy in Kristiania. No harm was dealt to any diplomats, as the rock was thrown at night. The City of Kristiania has posted police outside the Sylvanian Embassy to prevent a repeat incident. After viewing the grim reports made by our observers in the Faroes, this foreign office must express its grave reservations concerning Østveg's ally Sylvania and its conduct thus far in the invasion of the Faroes. The first hours and days of this conflict can only be described by rational human beings as a "massacre", and the offensive party must indeed be held accountable.

We call upon our dear friends in Østveg to distance themselves from these heinous acts of which we as victims of war crimes will indeed investigate to the fullest. There is no thing harder than stepping up to a superpower, especially when they are your ally, your business partner, and in our case valued cousins in the Can-Engellexic race; Østveg must join us in a proper investigation in to the events surrounding this invasion.

With their actions in the Faroes Crisis, the Sylvanians are setting a negative precedence where international juridispurence and sovereignity as well as national will have been set aside in favor of Charleroi's self-righteousness and a self-perceived right of governance based on geographic proximity, as evidenced by the "Occidentia for Occidentians" rhetoric espoused by President Rygaard and his administration.

The Union thus echoes the Cantignian government's statements on the situation, and calls upon Kristiania as an ally of the Sylvanians to recognize their own responsibility for the Faroes Crisis and act accordingly. In spite of the immediate lack of Norse involvement in that affair, the reality is that the entire Tripartite Pact is at least indirectly complicit in the events now taking place in the Faroe islands, for ignorance is also a certain form of action.

These reports are simply show the initial phases of battle between Sylvanian and Cussian forces and Danish Remnant, know that no Faroese civilian has come to any harm as a result of the Marines expedition into the main Island and toward Gamle Kongestad. I will repeat for you our vow to limit civilian casualties and our promise to be lenient on surrendering Danish Remnant forces. We ask that Orson Talbot stop his attempt to tarnish the Sylvanian reputation for whatever motive that has yet to be revealed to us. There are real acts of cruelty taking place that deserve the attention of peace loving peoples, such as the Fennian mistreatment of colored innocents in New Fennia or the murder of diplomats in Touzen, not the combatants in a conflict that Danes and their Mezhist puppets brought upon themselves, God rest their souls.

The questions first on the minds of Austwegians was, 'what and where is a Nordmarka?' Questioning period for the Chancellor established just those answers as changes in the Occident finally begin to take shape after a half a year of debate. Several long debates within the Folkting produced very little between August of 1953, and today where a decision was finally approved by the Folkting and subsequently approved by Her Majesty's Government showed that still, little had been decided. The only official answer was that a new territory was finally confirmed by the Folkting, in which Austwegian Occidentia would formally be part of the territorial construct that makes the Kingdom of Østveg. The official name bestowed upon it, came with the help of a group of cartographers, and two representatives from the region. Nordmarka also shares the name of a park in central Kristania. Nordmarka, being the official name for the large island and collection of small islands, is nearly a sub-continent. It has been granted one voting member into the Folkting for the next parliamentary election (as well as two extra non-voting members), and been given a self-governing status. This means that Nordmarka has something that Fey does not even possess. While naturally, many may assume this would anger representatives from Fey, the more simple truth is that it does not. In fact many Feyers believe that if anything this is a step in the right direction for Fey, and at worst, a sign that this Union is working in a manner in which Feyers would likely see it best. The more Federal system in place, and the ability to grant powers to local territories to administer themselves keep power out of the hands of the Chancellor and out of Kristiania. Exactly what Fey desires. Nordmarka has been given the right to create its own constitution to govern the territory, and the meeting for which is expected to occur at on Wednesday, leaving no time wasted. The questions that need to be answered almost immediately is the capital site as well as the question of how the government should be shaped. Most of the country turned a blind eye to worldly events as December festivities ran abound for most Austwegians. The celebration of Saint Lucia and her celebration adorned the nation with Saint Lucia's Cathedral in Ulriken, which annually is played on the radio for the entire nation to listen to. Soon there after Christmas celebrations filled the minds of Austwegians, and of course coinciding with this is the Christmas Independence of Østveg, which marked a year since the coronation of Queen Inger Lise. Not long afterwards celebrations of Julebukk took part, in which children dress up and go door to door singing carols and receiving candy, nuts and clementines. December is an important and busy month for Austwegians and the depression that sets in for January has been slow. News of the world's events for December were taken notice soon afterwards and prompted rallies in Kristiania today. The deaths of five-hundred Faroe men in Cantignia, in what has been deemed as the Saint Fredrick's Day Massacre prompted protests in front of the Folkting and the Chancellor's house. A large banner was held up condemning the massacre with a portrait of President Rygaard smeared with red paint that read: "murderer." Chancellor Bakken addressed the crowd outside of her home, "I'm fully aware of the injustice that has occurred to those of our kin, outside of our borders. We are, and always will be the premier nation for holding the rights of Nords across the globe as paramount. We were the sole member of this alliance of democratic nations, that held reservations for the attack upon the Faroes and furthermore received the promises of non-violence from the Sylvanians. Autumn Vikland gave us her promise no harm would be done, and we cannot say that any harm was intended for these poor souls. I will be in discussion with both President Rygaard and the leaders in Cantignia for future discussion on this issue. This murder of Nordic blood on foreign soil will never be forgotten." A further demonstration proved the largest in front of the Cantigian Embassy in Kristiania. The large crowd has made it impossible to move in or out of the embassy, and police are simply trying to manage the crowd from inflicting harm upon anyone in the Cantigian Embassy. The Embassy does not possess a gate, and protestors can stand right in front of the door; however, the windows are barred. No violence has been reported, but some suggest that the embassy staff may be scared for their life and kept inside. "Peoples & Patriots of Østveg - gracious hosts to me, my husband, my baby girl Sigrid who was born here in Kristiana . . Please allow me to speak for just a moment on behalf of the Friendly Confines, who want nothing more but to resolve any perceived unjust that Cantignia has done to you and your kin.

As a representative of this Foreign Office, and thus the Grand Covenant of Cantignia, I can state with full unequivocal confidence that the Friendly Confines cannot be implicated with the deaths of Faroes Soldiers and Officers of the Tripartite Pact's war against Danmark's faraway overseas colony.

With not more than a day to prepare for the arrival of these POW's, Cantignia scrambled to do the best it could to process and transport potentially hostile beings - who took up arms against Austwegian allies - these displaced Dansk occupiers of the Faroe Islands were suspected of gross human abuse against the Faroes peoples, and the Sylvanian Peoples & Patriots who have liberated the islands.

The perpetrators who struck the Cantigian Police convoy, transporting the POW's to a classified location, are also guilty of murdering Cantigians - their lives lost in service of their nation, protecting the Dansk POW's to the last man. The Grand Covenant promises that these murderers will be found, put on fair trial, and delivered an inevitably deserved justice .

In honor of those who have lost their lives, their freedom molested, please allow us to do our job - learning from Østveg, representing Cantignia, and doing our very best to ensure the quality of life enjoyed here in Østveg is shared everywhere around the world."

Gjestegaarden was designated as the Capital City for the new territorial holding of Østveg. The publishing of the new Constitution marks the beginning of an election season in Nordmarka, which will also send representatives to the Austwegian Folkting in the next national election as well. Political leaders in Nordmarka have suggested they plan to make the territory a major link between Østveg and the Occident. What this entails will likely be a major point of contention in elections; however, other major questions will likely be asked. Having both political leaders of Østveg in Occidentia for the first time ever together, marks a major point of significance in importance for the region. Having the highest vote total, and in partnership with the Republican Party, they have negotiated the right to the position of Prime Minister. They've appointed Prime Minister Hans Nieuwenburg to represent the Government. Queen Inger Lise has appointed as High Commissioner of Nordmarka Marit Margrete Engeli. Prime Minister Nieuwenburg's family can be traced back to Lisse via a wave of immigration to the Occident spurred by Kings of Agder which paid foreign nationals to start businesses in modern Nordmarka. The few windmills in Nordmarka can often be attributed to Lisse originated migrants. The Prime Minister considers himself is half-Inuit and half-Austwegian despite his family's name origin which might be considered otherwise. On the other hand, High Commissioner Engeli hails from Fey, and will be the resident representative of the Crown while she lives in Nordmarka. Marit Margrete is according to the new Constitution, also the one who handles foreign affairs as representative from Østveg. Marit Margrete along with Hans Nieuwenburg will jointly announce the winner of the flag competition that was also voted upon during this election day. While initially Chancellor Bakken intended to refuse to the invitation, citing that, "Østveg has no use for this organization. What do we hope to achieve by spending our Kroners on stationing diplomats just in case something interesting happens? If anyone wants to speak to Austwegian diplomats or this government, the Airport at Kristiania will welcome them with open arms. In fact, I'm always a quick telephone call away." The opposition Republican Party did not agree with the Chancellors suggestion, and demanded that the nation send at least one representative. In a compromise, Her Majesty's Government suggested a national referendum. One that is scheduled to occur rather quickly. The debate has raged on between the cost, the purpose, and even the reasoning. How effective is such a body, and why is it even required? It is designed to stop wars? Or merely find new ways to start wars? Or perhaps achieve nothing at all? Austwegians are not foreigners to town hall meetings though. It's extremely common for the small towns across the nation to hold meetings to discuss local politics, issues, and and even hold events. Yet, how does a town hall meeting for international diplomats achieve anything?
