:!: Nouveau Port: In full state pageantry Michelle D’Anise was sworn in as Prime Minister after being re-appointed by President Auguste. M. le President himself was also just recently re-elected by the Senate, where the Left has an absolute majority. Michelle will now begin her second term with a strong parliamentary majority to push most of the Government’s agenda through.

“…I thank the citizens of this republic for having enough confidence in me and the Government I head, to give us this opportunity to continue confronting the issues of this nation…” said the Prime Minister during her acceptance speech.

:!: Nouveau Port: With the National Assembly now back in session, the debate continues over regional issues. Most notable is the issue that there are still noticeable economic inequalities between ethnic French and Nithians. The Prime Minister, who is an ethnic Nithian, has made this a priority for the Government. Many members of the Liberal Bloc have accused the Left of making a pitch for ethnic votes, and using this as an excuse to bring additional funds to their respective districts.

Cognac: A new brand of cognac, Donn Ronn, has been released by JHMC Wineries. This is the company’s first brand that is marketed to the general public. A company spokesperson has said that its release is intended to coincide with the company starting an aggressive marketing campaign, to boost its overseas consumption.

Debate Over Regions Bill Intensifies
PRRS Splits with Allies over Bill

Nouveau Port: The debate over legislation at the forefront of the docket has gotten vitriolic over the past several days. The bill is more formally called the Regional Economic Development and Empowerment Act; and many Liberals are not happy about it. The Opposition Leader, François Labonne, has called the bill “a blatant attempt to get ethnic support for the current government” and claims that it “increases tension amongst the races.” Both of these objections were harshly rejected by the Prime Minister, who said that “the Liberals are the ones trying to incite racial tension.”

Nouveau Port: Leader of the Parti Radical et Radical Socialiste, Elizabeth DeSalle, announced during a press conference that the PRRS was likely to split with its Liberal allies over the Regions Bill. This is not the first time the PRRS and the RPL have had a dispute over a major bill, and no formal response has yet been issued by the Government or the RPL. Many annalists believe that this all but guarantees the passage of the legislation, because even if some of the majority’s members cross the isle during the vote it would still have a majority. This also makes the job of the Majority Whip easier, as he no longer has to entice reluctant members of the Bloc to vote for the bill.

Trier: President Auguste attended the coronation of King Albrecht of Eiffelland in Weissenfelser Cathedral. He, along with other heads of state, was able to personally congratulate the new monarch, and oddly his father, Prince (formally King) Heinrich, who has entered into retirement. The President has also denied rumors that he told Heinrich that he is looking forward to joining him in departing from government.

Many on the left hale this as an important step to further developing the economy and reducing the gap between rich and poor regions. The Prime Minister has declined to comment, as has the Opposition Leader, both citing respect for the legislative process and say they will make a statement in the coming days.

Cognac: When most people in the world think of Radilan wine or spirits, they think of the high end giant JHMC. Recently this prominent brand has begun a marketing campaign to bolster its international sales. This has caused the nation’s other wineries, distilleries, and breweries to join forces in selling their products. This new agency will be called the Radilan Wine, Spirit, and Beer Producers Co-Operative [en Français: Vins, Eau-de-vieux, et Bières Coopératif Producteurs Radilan (VEB Co-op)]. It will soon start to market the lesser known Radilan brands internationally.

Nouveau Port: Luxury car maker Bugatti is to start offering dealership franchises in other nations. Up until now the carmaker has sold directly to international clients, but this has proven to be too inefficient and is not drawing in the desired worldwide business that the company would like. So the company will start allowing domestic dealerships in countries with a strong demand potential.

Nouveau Port: Jewelry and leather company OLV (Omega | Louis Vuitton) has announced that it will start opening stores in nations outside Radilo. Like other high end products, OLV has only sold directly to customers, but it too has found such a method be inadequately profitable.

:!: Courtesy of the AP wires, Reza: Coronadic forces entered Meribia yesterday. Both nations had been escalating rhetoric ever since the communist nation tested a nuclear bomb. Few experts in regional and international policy had suspected that this situation would progress so quickly into a military engagement. :!: Zanjan: Wazi forces have launched an aggressive campaign against regional separatists in the eastern part of that country. Three Azeri held cities had been severely damaged by the aerial bombing campaign, and according to the AP all were quickly taken by Wazi ground forces. The Prime Minister has said she will review the conflict, but as of now the Radilan government is neutral on the matter.

:!: Reza: As Coronadic forces continued their advancement into southwestern Meribia, most of the international community is siding with them; as many governments view Meribia’s nuclear ambitions a threat to international security. The IRB, however, has been largely unsupportive of its most prominent member. The Prime Minister Said that she was not in favor of Radilo supporting either party; she also refused to offer any comment of Radilo’s position regarding nuclear weapons.


Nouveau Port: Today members of the National Front (Front National) held a protest in front of the capitol protesting the passage of the Regions Bill. L. Rand Perrin, the party’s only senator, leader, and perennial presidential candidate, lead the protest. The event was condemned by all major parties as nothing more then a racist rally. The FN is openly pro-segregation, anti-Nethian, and anti-Semitic. They were protesting what they Perrin called “an attempt by the government to give (slur) the hard earned money of white people.” Perrin also compared Prime Minister Michelle D’Anise to a kind of monkey.

Cognac: Sales of JHMC products have seen a steady increase since the company began to expand its advertising campaign in other countries. Most popular is the new Donn Ronn brand that is catering to the mid-range market, though its high-end brands have also seen a sharp increase. The auto giant Bugatti has also seen some improvement in sales, especially to proved high-security vehicles to international politicians.

Regional separatists in Zanjan have been under siege by Wazi governmental forces. There have been reports of massive demonstrations that are becoming increasingly violent against the government. This has been seconded by opposition websites are reporting that both sides are ratcheting up the conflict. There has been an official media blackout over the country. As a result our field reporter was kicked out of Wazistan along with all other foreign journalists.

:!: Nouveau Port: The Prime Minister addressed the National Assembly today regarding the situation in Wazistan:

"...It is increasingly obvious that the government of Wazistan is acting inappropriately and in violation of international law. While it is the right of any nation to deal with a domestic insurgency; tactics such as the deliberate targeting of civilians and forcing a media blackout are unacceptable. Because of this the Radilan Republic is removing her embassy staff from the Wazistan. I today spoke to the Wazi Ambassador and informed him that he and his delegation are to be expelled from the Republic as soon as possible..."

:!: Courtesy of AP Wire, Zanjan: The crisis in Radilo’s northern neighbor has now reached an even more feverish pitch. What started as a civil war between ethnic groups has now grown to being a nationwide insurgency against the sitting Islamic Regime. With what is still a full media black out, verifiable information is difficult to obtain. What is certain, though, is that increasingly large swaths of the country are being engulfed by violence. Opposition leaders have been arrested, according to the AP, and many Wazi youths are in revolt against the government.

The Prime Minister has ordered an emergency cabinet meeting to discuss possible measures to insure that the crisis in Wazistan does not have a negative spillover affect into Radilo.

:!: Nouveau Port: After the split between right wing parties over the Regions Bill, there has been a noticeable up tick in intra-bloc confrontations. Yesterday there was an intense debate between DeSalle (PRRS) and Labonne (RPL), the opposition’s two main leaders, over economic development. Many political analysts are suggesting that the two main opposition parties may break up and from separate blocs, but both leaders deny this—noting that there will always be disagreement between allies.


Cognac: JHMC, a company know for its excesses, has released a vintage of Cognac that boarders on the absurd. Philipe IV Grand Champagne is 500+ years old and comes in a solid gold and platinum bottle decorated with diamonds. About a third of a liter of this stuff will set you back three million euros (or 8571.43 euros per milliliter). This is likely to go down as the most expensive drop of any liquid ever. And the company reports selling half a dozen of the bottles already; showing that there is demand for such a product… good lord.

:!: Nouveau Port: President Auguste today addressed a joint session of the legislature over the increasing tension in Wazistan and Batavië.

“… In this time of growing global uncertainty, it is a priority of this government to protect the interests of the republic. Not least among these is to ensure the safety and wellbeing of Radilans. It is also important, to maintain our standard of living, to protect the republic’s commercial activities. The unrest in our neighbor cannot be allowed to dampen economic progress and trade. The situation in Communist State has been degrading to the point that an international conflict may abound.

To protect the interests of the republic and her allies, I have, with the consent of the National Assembly ordered our military to stand on high alert. I have also ordered that civilian vessels en route to or from Radilo will be protected if necessary by the full force of our navy. To ensure that the necessary funds and manpower are available to meet these needs, I have asked the National Assembly to provide the armed forces with substantial additional funds and to allow for an expansion of our military…”

:!: Nouveau Port: After weeks of speculation, the PRRS (en: Radical and Radical Socialist Party) and the RPR (en: Rally for Liberty) have formally ended their long standing political alliance. This will likely have a significant impact on Radilan politics moving forward. None of the party leaders were available for immediate comment. Political annalists had began to predict the collapse of the alliance after the two main opposition parties voted in different ways on the controversial Regions Bill.


Cognac: Hennessy has announced a tentative agreement to buy Portier (pronounced port-ē-æ) the largest export brewer in Radilo. This has been part of a recent trend by Hennessy to diversify its product line internationally. Critics of JHMC have argued that the alcohol giant is becoming monopolistic in its control of the industry in Radilo. JHMC controls 85% of the market in Radilo and 35% internationally for hard liquor, with similar numbers for wine and beer.

:!: Nouveau Port: After yesterday’s break up of the Liberal Bloc (fr: Bloc Liberal), a new coalition has been announced. The Democratic Bloc (fr: Bloc Démocrate) will be an alliance of the Radical and Radical Socialist Party, the Democratic Front, and The Greens. The smaller Democratic Front had splintered off the Left Bloc, and The Greens were sitting as non-inscrits. Because of this, the Left Bloc has lost its majority in both the National Assembly and the Senate. In this new hung parliament the Left will keep its position as the Government, but will now rely on the Democrats for passage of bills.

:!: Nouveau Port: Despite the setback of the loss of the Democratic Front from her government, the Prime Minister confidently proposed her budget. One major contention from the Opposition is that it creates a significant deficit and almost doubles the national debt. It has usually been the policy to keep the budget in surplus and keep a low national debt. But with the passage of the very costly Regions Bill, going into deficit was necessary.

:!: Nouveau Port: After the loss of its majority in Parliament, the Government faced a major hurtle today; the Opposition entered a motion for a vote of no confidence. The motion failed; luckily for the Prime Minister, the vote was not as close as many had expected ~ 58 to 192. Both the Left and Democratic Blocs voted in opposition of the no confidence motion, with the Liberal Bloc and non-inscrits voting for it. This suggests that while the Region’s bill was controversial, it, along with Prime Minister D’Anise, is popular.

:!: Nouveau Port: An amendment to the budged has been proposed by Defense Minister Joule Yo’am. She has suggested an addition of 50 billion in military discretionary spending; to help build up the Republic’s armed forces. The justification for the buildup is that tensions in the region, especially in Wazistan, are still very high. Despite adding to the deficit, the measure is largely supported by both sides in parliament.

:!: Courtesy of Reuters, Ijad: Despite what appears to be a temporary lull in the fighting, the situation in Wazistan is worsening. Wazi security forces have violently been cracking down on protestors and opposition leaders. There is an estimated death toll of over 200 and there were over a thousand arrests made. Opposition leader Jamal Bishara was among those arrested, prompting many of his colleagues have gone into hiding. Reuters also reports that the bulk of opposition MP’s were expelled from Parliament and arrested. This lead one analyst to say that “if there was any democracy still living in the Islamic Republic, it is now dead.”

The Radilan Government had formally offered to host any of the Wazi opposition should they need to go into exile.


Mielle: After two years of construction, a new nuclear power plant has opened in Radilo’s southeast. The plant was built to provide the region with a more ready source of power, so they would not have to import energy at a high cost during the winter months when the region’s hydro-electric plants cannot operate at full capacity.

Cognac: After its purchase of Portier, JHMC has been expanding the company’s breweries with the intent of taking a larger international market share. Portier is internationally recognized for its creamy stouts and dark porters ~ the traditional brews of Radilo.
