Sinese Expatriates Voice in Carentania

We urge the world not to believe the Sinese government media, which decries any and all crime as 'communist'. These acts have nothing to do with the just and righteous cause of opposition to the Union government in Sinhai. The Sinhai Union is abusing such atrocities for further political gain against opposing factions and falsely attributes them to their enemies.

There is no sense in turning against the weak, if liberating the weak is your goal. Communists will never willingly harm children.

SDF Begins Negotiations with PIP Over Hostages
The Sinese Defense Force has successfully initiated negotiations with People's Independence Party insurgents who took over one hundred and twenty children hostage. A list of demands has been received by the SDF and released to the press, though the UBN is reluctant to release exact details they amount to: "Either grant independence to Northern Sinhai, or cease teaching children revisionist history, denying access to public education in Northern Sinhai, allow multiple political parties to participate in Sinese politics, expand healthcare to non-citizens" among other demands.

The Unity Party has addressed all of these demands as 'going too far'. Granting independence to Northern Sinhai is not a viable option as the region itself maintains a significantly damaged infrastructure and already represents a significant investment, both financially and morally, to the Unity Party. It has addressed what the Communists call "revisionist" history as simply an introduction to a non-Marxist class-conflict based education. The Sinese government also refuses to allow access to multiple parties, ignoring the reasoning that multiple parties is an increased democratic freedom by pointing that any Unity Party member may run on any platform, and that all citizens may vote for any member. The Unity Party does not maintain official Party platforms beyond those enumerated within the constitution, unlike other nations political parties. The Unity Party also cannot expand healthcare to non-citizens, and has decried this demand as naive, especially given the fact that it is the Communists themselves, through their attacks on the Sinese economy, that has made such a compromise impossible.

Despite the tense situation involving the siege of the school, the death toll continues to rise in Sai Yok and the surrounding towns as citizens have turned on their neighbors, persecuting those known to be affiliated strongly with the People's Independence Party in the past. Citizen death squads have begun attacking those suspects, and over fourteen murders have been reported since the siege began. Sinese Defense Forces and Sai Yok Police are increasing their presence and reduce response time to reported incidents; however the number of crimes against communists being reported to the Police are believed by several within the Sai Yok PD Crime Analysis Unit to be decreasing as militancy within the population increases and trust of the efficiency of both Police and SDF has decreased.

OL Arkhan Hands Power to Civilian Government
The SDF has officially handed over power to the civilian government, ending a brief period of junta rule. However, many new issues are faced by the new government that President Visariya and the National Assembly plan to address jointly. President Marjhan has promised increased power and independence for both the Executive and Legislative offices. However, militancy within Sai Yok can be seen even within the National Assembly as members of Northern Sinese Citizen Councils, led by Sayan Jaa, are calling for increased actions and have supported the citizens recent vigilant actions against Communists. Sayan Jaa stated earlier today that "If the Police are not there to protect you, then you must protect yourself. This National Assembly gave people the right to purchase weapons to defend their families for a reason, and now is the time to realize that such a situation may be upon us now." However, Sayan Jaa has stressed that citizens must cooperate with authorities and the SDF, and is moving for the National Assembly to direct the SDF in a more aggressive approach to dealing with Communists.

Among other issues faced by the SDF, several leads are being followed which may materialize suspicions that connections exist between the PIP and the Vangalan Communist Party. Should such connections exist, Madame President Marjhan Visariya has stated that it would represent a direct attack by the Vangalan nation against the Sinhai Union, something that diplomacy would be hard pressed to settle, especially given the growing intensity of the conflict with the Communists in Sai Yok and the Dai Viet border.

Military crackdowns along the Dai Viet border have already pointed to a lax policy by the LFS aligned Dai Viet, meaning that insurgents are free to cross the border without restraint by Dai Viet armed forces. SDF is hoping for action from Nokanawa, but is not expecting any to be taken soon. Should no action be taken and the situation continue to intensify, the SDF has not denied the idea of increased action along the already tense border.

"Hello there, my fellow citizens. Welcome to UBN, state certified media, my name is Banyat Bantadtan, and this is my co-anchor...," a well-dressed anchor man began the broadcast before a image of a fluttering white Sinese flag.

"Apasiri Pichaya, and this is National News at on the Nine, we have interesting news in today, but we'll start with the most pertinent, as always!"

"Indeed, Apasiri. A Labour Union leader for the Coal Miners Union was lynched today by a angry mob of vigilant citizens in Sai Yok. Chaikasem Namwong, leader of the CMU, was attacked by a mob of roughly fifty citizens who assassinated his co-workers, dragged him from his office, and strapped him to a statue of the former Communist regime and set him on fire," the man explained with a look of disgust on his face, an image of fire engines spraying a blackened statue with white and red lights flashing through the small square.

"Chaikasem Namwong was the leader of the CMU during the PIP regime in Sai Yok, and continued in that function. He was allegedly still connected to the PIP and the insurgency, though the exact connection was being investigated by SYPD. It is not clear at this time how exactly the mob was lead to attack Chaikasem, and SYPD is currently investigating who exactly participated in this brutal attack," Apasiri concluded before shuffling some papers while the televised broadcast transitioned into an image of more rallies within the cityscape of Sri Rama.

"In other news, citizen rallies were held in Sri Rama today, calling for citizens in Sai Yok to take more peaceful approaches to countering Communist-sponsored terror," the screen showed pickets displaying signs of loyalty, but the viewers could see that both Apasiri and Banyat had pressed their fingers to their ears with their eyes fixed on the text viewers that told them the lines they should be reading.

"I'm sorry, we have to interrupt this news with breaking news from the ground in Sai Yok, where SYPD and SDF negotiations with insurgents have failed and the situation looks increasingly grim for over one hundred and twenty children who are being held prisoner in a war between ideologies," Banyat started.

"We go now to our reporter on the ground, Kasit Sukapatana. Kasit?"

The screen transitioned to a reporter standing before a relatively large school, rundown with age and lack of maintenance but still functional and likely one of the larger schools in Sai Yok. Outside, a veritable hive of police and military personnel buzzed around the building, flashing red, blue, and yellow lights easily seen flashing in the reporters eyes.

"Yes, Apasiri and Banyat, situations are grim here in Sai Yok. Violence in the town has been escalating for several weeks, and now the entire city looks to see what will happen here at this primary school, where over a hundred pre-teen children are being held hostage by armed insurgents. The police still are unsure of what kind of hardware the insurgents are using, but negotiations have broken down and I think the SDF is going to be hitting the school hard in just a few minutes," as he spoke the camera zoomed in on a squad of soldiers that looked as though they were poised to charge through the front doors of the school.

"Now we have information that the hostages are being held in the auditorium, however it seems as though the insurgents are using the schools own security camera's to monitor entrance into the school. It doesn't seem as though the SDF has cut power to the school, likely to keep negotiations with the insurgents still a possibility. Now, we are beginning to wonder if cutting the power would lead to a massacre," almost as if queued, the power in the building went out and a breathless moment passed before dozens of soldiers surged forth, kicking open the front doors. Gunfire opened up and the cameraman ducked behind a truck, then a soldier could be heard beside the cameraman.

"Go, go!" shouted a soldier, and the reporter and cameraman rushed forward towards the doors. The soldier hit the wall and looked into the door, nodding to an unseen reporter and the camera hurried down a hallway, several bodies lay on the ground. More gunfire could be heard within the school and the screams of over a hundred children were heard. The gunfire began to intensify, and the soldier on point heard a crackle in the radio and pressed his hand against the camera. "Stop," the soldier said quietly. The gunfire down the hall, as well as the screams of children, had quieted down.

Kasit moved forward and began talking to the soldier before turning back to the camera, "Banyat, we'll be coming back to the studio with more information in just a moment, but it does not look like the situation has ended well." Kasit Sukapatana's face held a worried look, and the screen transitioned back to the studio.

The two anchormen in the studio were quiet, trying to think of what to say. Banyat took the lead, folding his hands on the desk and bowing his head, "Let's join together in a moment of silence..." he stated.

"Hello there, my fellow citizens. Welcome to UBN, state certified media, my name is Banyat Bantadtan, and this is my co-anchor...," a well-dressed anchor man began the broadcast before a image of a fluttering white Sinese flag.

"Apasiri Pichaya, and this is National News on the Nine. We have grim news on the headlines today. Over ninety seven children are dead after the siege of a Sai Yok Primary School goes wrong. Reports suggest that insurgents had detailed information from within the SDF that told them what was happening, a speculation not being ignored by the populace of Sai Yok," the attractive young anchorwoman stated.

"The siege of the school turned sour Sunday when negotiations with insurgents holding one hundred and thirty six children hostage failed. SDF forces moved quickly to attempt an intervention with minimal casualties, but encountered resistance within the school. That resistance proved fateful for the children of Sai Yok, where insurgents fired on children in a last ditch attempt to resist SDF forces. All twelve insurgents were killed in the battle," Banyat explained as footage taken from the storming of the school was replayed on the screen.

"Many citizens are suspecting that insurgents have contacts within the SDF and voiced that opinion in a protest outside of Sai Yok city hall. Officers within the SDF have denied such accusations and are preparing to cycle battalions in an effort to move potential spies outside of Sai Yok. This measure is not seen as enough by citizens within Sai Yok, however, who have violently attacked family members of insurgents whose names were released by the SDF summary to the assault on the schools. Many families trying to remain neutral in the conflict are demanding protection from the already strained SYPD, others are packing their bags and leaving for other places now," Apasiri spoke while footage of a woman holding a crying children played in the background.

"In related news, violence in Sai Yok has spilled over to the countryside, with several citizen rallies attacking more Union offices in a number of towns, as well as a bombing of the Regional Transit Authority offices in the small town of Na Thae outside Sai Yok. Though no one was killed in the incident, it represents a critical issue in the growing civil unrest taking place in Northern Sinhai," Banyat stated, footage of an explosion ripping through a building in a distance taken from a camera designed to monitor traffic played on the top right corner of the screen.

"SYPD is requesting assistance from the government, calling the situation in Sai Yok 'uncontrollable given our current assets'. SYPD is a new agency, and was considered by several analysts to be underfunded at the time of it's creation merely two months ago. Sri Rama PD is considering assisting the embattled SYPD," Banyat finished, turning to Apasiri to continue the story.

Pictures of a old woman dressed in a crisp military uniform, dressed from shoulder to navel in medals, stood before a dais amid dozens of flashing camera's. "OL Arkhan refused to comment on possibilities of declaring martial law in Sai Yok, saying that the situation presented significant difficulty for the SDF." Film showed Ahremen Arkhan standing before the dais speaking:
"This situation represents a unique and difficult endeavour for the SDF. Not only do we fight a renewed Communist insurgency in Sai Yok, but we face alienating the very people we seek to defend. This is something we cannot do. We'll be reviewing ideas for handling the situation, but until I see an idea that works I am not going to do something hasty. Now, if you'll excuse me, I need to get back to work."

"SDF forces are building up within Sai Yok proper as well as throughout the countryside, and checkpoints are being created throughout the city, dividing Sai Yok into four quarters," Banyat started, film of soldiers armed with assault rifles checking identification cards for citizens passing past a barricade of sandbags played on the screen. "It has been suggested that the SDF may divide the city into even smaller districts and begin house-to-house searches for weapons, however domestic laws forbid such action to be taken except in times of martial law. However, if martial law were to be declared, then the citizens of Sai Yok would be subject to it's rule as well as the Communists. Such an action may cause panic as SDF arrest citizens responsible for vigilante attacks on Communist collaborators."

"Very interesting, Banyat. And now for a word from our sponsors," Apasiri stated, talking to random people offscreen as brief credits rolled over the screen before commercials began.

We are saddened to learn of the senseless murder of young children in Sai Yok and we express our sympathies for the families of the innocent children. We also condemn the perpetrators of these horrific crimes and we hope that stability can be brought back to Sinhai.

Violence continues in Sai Yok today, with Sinese Defense Forces increasing their presence in the area and countryside, and beginning a series of operations that have seen mixed levels of success. Most notably, the SDF uncovered a significant weapons cache with a wide variety of weaponry. The SDF report details the type of weapons seen in the cache, noting that Carentanian, Vangalan, and Levantine are among the most common, but also a wide variety of EDF weapons have been seen, leading analysts to assume that, despite the prevalence of Carentanian and Vangalan weaponry, the arms cache itself likely just represents a failure of these governments to contain their own weapons," she began, footage of the large variety of weapons playing on the screen. Several insurgents, dressed in regular civilian clothing, were being pushed into the back of a truck by rifles.

"SDF forces are concerned, however, by the size of the cache, and though they recognize the find is significant, it suggests that the insurgents are better armed than previously believed." Apasiri turned to Banyat whose face continued to remain grim.

"In related news, citizens have continued rallying against Communism is an attempt to be more vocal than their opponents, inciting the populace to further displays of loyalty to the government by violence against communists and collaborators. Insurgents were quick to attack the rally, however, when a vehicle attempted to ram the crowd and detonated with a car bomb. The crowd dispersed quickly enough, and the vehicle's blast largely missed, leading the crowd to fight back against the insurgents. Though a large number of citizens were wounded or killed in the initial fighting, the citizens managed to capture several insurgents," Banyat rustled some papers and footage played of smoke rising from the center of Sai Yok, where the car bomb had detonated on the side of a cafe and scorched the side of the structure. "However, citizens did not respond to SYPD requests to acquire the prisoners, and all insurgents were lynched within two hours after the battle."

"Assemblymen Sayan Jaa and a handful of other assemblymen and women from Northern Sinhai have formed a political faction within the Unity Party, colloquially known as the 'Guardians'. These 'guardians', led by Sayan Jaa, have been advocating increasing citizen activity in Northern Sinhai, and calling for a revocation of the recent free trade treaty signed with Khalistan in order to 'preserve the integrity of the Union'," Banyat paused for a moment, film of an angry Sayan Jaa speaking in the assembly, bashing his fist against his desk as he spoke with much gusto. "Sayan Jaa has advocated direct government intervention in the conflict by modifying the laws to allow military to exempt citizens from investigation into the insurgency in Sai Yok. He's also decried both Khalistan and Dai Viet as apathetic neighbors who's lack of assistance in creating truly secure borders is their silent support of the insurrection."

Apasiri nodded and looked to the left, where an image of a reporter standing before a crowd of protesters came onto the screen. "Let's go to our correspondent in the field, Tanpat Kulinpa. Tanpat?"

"Yes, Apasiri, as you can see the stir in the Assembly is making an impact outside of Northern Sinhai. I'm here in Debal, in southwestern Sinhai, far from any Communist insurgency, and as you can see protests here are also directed against the government, calling for more action. Several of the protesters even have signs suggesting that citizenship should be revoked for anyone deemed aligned with the Communist People's Independence Party at any point in their life," the reporter paused and the cameraman panned to the crowd which raised their fists into the air while some unseen speaker began to chant to the rally.

"The National Assembly is refusing to make a decision on the matter, considering the idea of revoking citizenship without due process of trial to be something completely against the principles of the Union. This stalemate is causing problems, though, as citizens are demanding action to end the violence."

"It's not looking good on the ground there, Tanpat. And that's not our only worry, Banyat?"

"Indeed it is not, Apasiri. The Baht is continuing to lose value, and is worth much less than it was worth a month ago, with the rate of exchange falling from 1 dollar = 1.19 Baht to 1 dollar = 12.62 Baht. Foreign investors are extremely concerned and are pulling money out of the economy, causing only further inflation to hit the Baht. With the government unable to tie down the Baht to a material good, it is likely that the Baht will continue to fall. This inflation is causing further damage to the Baht, but the government is optimistic for recovery with an approaching tourist season."

"Ah, those lovely tourists. At least someone gets to benefit from devalued currency," Apasiri grumbled.

"And those people are not the Sinese National Dragon Boat Association. The SNDBA is set to begin it's nation-wide tournament, despite growing violence in the north. The SNDBA officials have stated they they do not feel that violence in the North and a worsening economy should reduce the opportunities available to the youth of Sinhai. Dragon Boat, a sport imported to Sinhai from Jizhou many centuries ago, is an ancient paddle sport similar in style to western rowing. The tournament offers opportunities for youth to compete against each other throughout the nation, and has a possibility to allow a select few teams to compete in Jizhou against Chinese teams. There has been no discussion of competitions with other nation, yet, however."

The Unity Party has adjourned from session today, acknowledging several committees recommendations that a survey be taken of the environment in Sinhai, noting that a number of species have become increasingly less common. Despite the llama being made the national animal and protected species earlier this year, other species have been noted as potentially in danger. Let's go to our correspondent in the field, Harkep?" the anchorwoman smiled and leaned forward over her desk, giving a nice shot straight down her blouse as the screen split in half, showing a man in the capital with a microphone standing before Unity Complex.

"Yes, Apasiri," Harkep smiled, "that is indeed true. Now while we're heard words from environmentalists calling industrialization a devastating factor in the environment before, never before has the National Assembly met to discuss the future of the Sinese environment. It appears that suspicions of vast ecological damage are founded enough for the survey to be created which will report back to the National Assembly with their findings."

"Interesting, Harkep. Do you expect the survey to uncover more information?" Apasiri asked.

"Yes, I do Apasiri. As you know, Sinese industry today continues to run with only minor regulations which restrict businesses in only the most minimalist sense. You have to take into consideration the fact that businesses have been destroying large swathes of the country in their bid to industrialize. I expect that the environment in Sinhai is far less as vibrant as it was several decades ago. Back to you in the studio."

"Thank you, Harkep. Banyat?" Apasiri transitioned into the next topic.

"Thank you, Apasiri. A small rally was held today in Ahrakor on behalf of socialists which protested the actions of citizens in Sai Yok against their fellow Sinese citizens, and against organized labor union which they call 'benefiting the communal health of the nation'. Over eight hundred participants met in the peaceful rally on the east coast city, but Ahrakor PD was not lax even for such a small rally. Several citizens were detained under suspicion of plotting attacks against the crowd, and are being held by APD until their intent is understood. Amid this growing unrest, anti-Communists in Sai Yok bombed a factory today, killing twenty-one and wounding over one hundred others. Many escaped the collapsing structure, but many others died. Anti-Communists have called the factory, a steelworks, a hotbed of Anti-Government, Pro-Communist sentiment. The event occurred at roughly 11 a.m., shortly before lunch shift in the factory, when a moving van loaded with large quantities of semtex crashed into the structure and detonated. The structured collapsed while many of the works fled, leaving many dead and injured. SYPD have called this act a 'tragedy' and a 'attack against the economic stability of Sinhai'. SYPD will investigate the matter further."

An image of Sri Rama's skyline appeared in the top left corner of the screen, and Apasiri took over for Banyat. "The economic stability of Sri Rama remains relatively high, despite overall national decline, according to recent surveys. Surveys suggest that while the overall national market declines as consumer confidence drops and inflation rises, however in Sri Rama that is not the case."

Apasiri took a breath and the image transitioned into one of the mayor of Sri Rama's face. "Mayor Hinirek has managed to stabilize inflation within Sri Rama by enacting measures traditionally unallowed by the unitarian Sinese government. However, given the state of the economy, it is unlikely that the National Assembly will resist the action, and is likely hoping that Sri Rama can be an economic beacon for the sinking national economy. Among those reforms instituted are temporary property taxes, lower munincipal tariffs, free gas, and the acceptance of foreign currency at many outlets. These temporary fixes, however, will not help the national economy, and some analysts have suggested that a "consumer confidence bubble" may have been created which will lead to total economic decline in the capital.

"Hello there, my fellow citizens. Welcome to UBN, state certified media, my name is Apasiri Pichaya, and this is my co-anchor...," a cute anchorwoman dressed in a fairly revealing white blouse began the broadcast before a image of a fluttering white Sinese flag.

"Banyat Bantadtan, and this is National News on the Nine. We have grim news for the citizenry of Sinhai tonight. An attack in Sai Yok has claimed over one hundred lives, including over twenty SDF soldiers, when insurgents committed to an organized attack on a protest in a small plaza in the northwest quarter of the city. Marjhan Visariya has declared today, May 23, to be a national day of mourning, and has admitted that the situation in Sai Yok is far worse than previously estimated."

"Together with OL Arkhan, Marjhan Visariya has announced that the extent of combat present in the recently assimilated regions of Northern Sinhai are comparable to the 1943 Civil War, and that unless harsh action is taken immediately, the integrity of the nation is at risk," Banyat's face did not hide his dislike for this grim news.

"Indeed, already government surveys of numerous cities have shown surprising increases in militancy particularly in areas around Ahrakor and eastern Sinhai, which have previously been spared battles in Sinhai's turbulent history. The only region of Sinhai to show little change is Sri Rama, likely due to it's international focus and a high pluralism present in the government there," Apasiri continued.

"OL Arkhan announced around noon her intention to begin a summer counter-insurgency campaign which will focus on the heart of the insurgency at Sai Yok. OL Arkhan admits that while Vangalan action likely sparked this insurgency, its continuation and increasing malevolence is testimony to a systemic problem she has compared to a disease," an image of OL Arkhan appeared in the top right on the screen, clad in her green uniform and pounding a fist on a small podium, her old wrinkled face well recognized by the nation.

"Marjhan Visariya has pledged to cooperate fully with the SDF, and has urged the National Assembly to do all it can to prevent further damage to national unity by increasing the SDF budget, and the Assembly responded with a revised budget which will double the funding of the SDF," Banyat spoke while the screen transitioned to a short film of the Assembly proceedings. "However, factions within the Assembly, led by Sayan Jaa, call the move 'too little, too late' and have continued to advocate even harsher actions against the insurgency. Sayan Jaa's proposed reforms include the eviction of all ethnic Khalistani's, the nationalization and monitoring of all national infrastructure corporations, the mobilization of militia's and expansion of military law and jurisdiction over non-citizen society."

"Madame President Marjhan Visariya, however, has called for a more moderate and comprehensive approach," Apasiri concluded. "The political field of Sinhai, however, is becoming as turbulent as Sai Yok, as a inquest into the extent of environmental damage has released preliminary reports that suggest the ecological damage of Sinese industrialization is extreme, and has reduced biodiversity by over 4,000% over the past thirty years. The reports has suggested that over twenty species of animals unique to Sinhai have become extinct within the past decade, and that if action is not taken immediately then the ecosystem of Sinhai will be irreversibly damaged. Industrialists, siding with Sayan Jaa, have called the preliminary report 'a liberal fabrication', and are opposing proposed early responses such as a vast, comprehensive industrial reform which would place broad environmental regulations on all Sinese industries. Sayan Jaa states that, in the current state of the Sinese economy, such an endeavour would prove disastrous. Several top CEO's of the Sinhai economy have stated that the damage to their corporations profits over the next decade would be severely damaged. On the other hand, though, environmental supporters have stated that it is Sinhai's biodiversity which contributes to Sinese tourism, and allows Sinhai to present a unique imprint in Europe's history," Banyat concluded

Vangala remains concerned that the proposed Sinese Defence Forces' offensive in the northern regions of the Sinhai Union will only further endanger the security, lives and human rights of the people in the area. The criminal sinking of a Vangalan scientific vessel by the SNDF demonstrates the Unity Front junta has no real commitment to peace as do the unfounded allegations against the People's Republic.

"Hello there, my fellow citizens. Welcome to UBN, state certified media, my name is Apasiri Pichaya, and this is my co-anchor...," said the typically cute anchorwoman, her hair a bit frazzled and unmanaged. She turned to her co-anchor with the smile she had been hired for.

"Banyat Bantadtan, and this is National News on the Nine." The white Sinese flag fluttered on the screen behind Banyat, transitioning into film of protesters in a smaller city. "Citizens have begun protesting en masse in Pak Nam Pran, and are undermining the SDF's summer campaign by stalling logistics, with railroad workers and other vital jobs striking in support of the protest. Thousands of protesters, claiming to call themselves 'Red Shirts', have taken to the streets in the center of Pak Nam Pran, calling government actions in Sai Yok 'not enough'."

"Top SDF officials fear that this movement may be the beginning of an organized counter-communist reactionary movement, and are worried that the violence seen in Sai Yok and other northern rural towns may spread to Pak Nam Pran. If it does, this would be the furthest south such violence has reached," he continued.

"Pak Nam Pran Police have stated that the protesters do not have the proper permits to authorize such a demonstration. Police Commander Thairit met briefly with press earlier today, stating that 'We are not interested in inflaming the situation. They can have today to protest, we'll keep our men nearby. If they try this again, they can expect us to crackdown on the situation. Citizens should know better than to assemble without permits.'" Video of the Police Commander speaking was short, and the footage turned back to protesters. "The Red Shirt organization has stated that they believe the North to have cause more problems than necessary, and feel that the region of the nation should either be abandoned, or governed far more strictly." The footage split back over to Banyat, who turned to Apasiri.

Apasiri smiled her charming smile and looked to the top left, where, as if by magic, a box appeared showing an imagine of Sayan Jaa slamming his fist against a podium, his face red in anger. "Sayan Jaa today announced in the National Assembly that he believed it is the government's job to 'Defend the interests of Sinese people... even if that means going against the interests of farang interests.' Sayan Jaa has stated that 'Sinhai is for the Sinese, and nothing should stop a Sinese government from defending the interests of Sinese people. It is obvious to me that these Khalistani and Viets are the ones at the heart of the problem in North Sinhai!'"

Apasiri continued as an image of the beloved President came onto the screen, her response as vibrant on television as the anchor-woman. The screen said it all: "Sayan Jaa, let us not forget that this country is not an island! We have neighbors to think of, and the international community! We cannot build a country solely for one race and naively assume that every other nation will stand by and think us the better for it!" The footage of Marjhan finished and Apasiri looked at the screen intently, "After a large debate between Madame President and the Assemblyman, the National Assembly motioned to remove Sayan Jaa from his office, citing his radical beliefs as a 'detrimental value system that the nation cannot afford to listen to at this time'. Ahrakor joined Debal and Sri Rama and a myriad of other southern citizen councils in a sweeping vote that saw Sayan Jaa removed from his office; it is unknown who his Citizen Council will chose to replace him."

"We acknowledge that Sayan Jaa was the popular leader of his Citizen Council, but we also feel that he was a radical. We are hoping that the next Assemblymen from the Council in Sai Yok will be less extreme," footage of a Unity Party official told the cameras. The footage switched back to Banyat, who folded his hands in a calm manner before himself.

"With the environmental inquest continuing to release unnerving reports concerning the state of the Sinese ecosystem, the National Assembly has moved to take action. The first of these steps will be a comprehensive industrial reform, which will increase regulations on all industries, regardless of their size. Such regulations will be pollution controls and energy saving, and the National Assembly has also addressed motor vehicle pollution, as well as the nations reliance on what it has come to call 'unsafe offshore drilling' and 'environmentally detrimental mining'. Several proposed laws have suggested going as far as closing the offshore drilling economy, while others have suggested maintaining current wells and ceasing construction of new ones. This would leave several large oil fields untapped, but environmental advocates fully support such action, calling drilling an 'unnecessary risk our ecosystem cannot afford.'"

An image of a factory spewing out black smoke filled up the screen, and Banyat continued. "Industrialists are opposed to this bill, however, believing that it would stifle growth. A small but growing engineering field believes that it may be greatly beneficial to the long term economy of Sinhai, however, as people turn from oil energy and tap into other types of energy, namely nuclear. With the Sri Rama School of Engineering rapidly approaching completion, the Unity Regime is hoping that investment in more technologically advanced economic areas may help Sinhai recover."

"However, the baht continues to decline in value, and top economists are concerned that the economy is 'past the point of no return', and balanced on the edge of hyper-inflation and mass unemployment. 'Without foreign investment,' an economist stated in film on the screen, 'our economy is unlikely to recover. What's worse, investment at this time in Sinhai is not lucrative. We can only hope for the best.'"

"In other news," Apasiri took over, "Ahrakor PD have seized shipments of unregistered weapons of various makes and classifications. Tipped off by Coastal Authority, which realized a vessel flying Belmont colors, yet not registered with the Belmont merchant marine, had docked in Ahrakor and unloaded cargo that did not match the appropriate manifest. APD quickly moved to seize the cargo, discovering a very large cache."

The footage split over to a screen of an officer speaking before a number of mics, "This is the largest cache of weapons any Sinese Police Agency has recovered in the history of the nation. With over five thousand units being seized, it makes us wonder where these weapons were bound, or if any other shipments have made it past our purview."

"Despite successes in Ahrakor, SDF units have as of yet failed to discover any weapon cache's in Sai Yok, though efforts continue. SDF officials are hoping for more lucrative evidence to be discovered, though; namely links between insurgents and Vangala. However, with the rising rate of militia attacks on SDF units throughout North Sinhai, the SDF does not believe that evidence of Vangalan support of the insurgency will stop the fighting."

"Hello there, my fellow citizens. Welcome to UBN, state certified media, my name is Banyat Bantadtan, and this is my co-anchor...," spoke up the aging anchorman as he turned to his coanchor, the white flag of the nation fluttering in the green screen behind them.

"...Apasiri Pichaya, and this is National News on the Nine." The cute anchorwoman who had been hired solely to boost ratings began, the top buttons of her blouse unbuttoned and her hair tied up into a pony tail. "Violence continues to erupt throughout Northern Sinhai as the region of the nation continues to suck up precious funding. Reports from residents in Sai Yok show that the majority of recent battles seem to be erupting between militant groups and Communist insurgents, with over eight skirmishes having taken place in the past three days. Estimates suggest that the casualties sustained by the Sai Yok populace since the beginning of the Northern Campaign are approaching one hundred, significantly lower than the previous week. Many experts believe that the insurgents themselves are consolidating their position in the face of pressure from the SDF. Banyat?"

"Yes, Apasiri. Things are not looking well for negotiators in Pak Nam Pran, either. 'Red shirts' have failed to represent a united front in negotiations with Unity Regime officials, with talks ending after four hours with no success," he stated. "Red shirts will continue their general strike, despite the government stating that if they could not present a single comprehensive list of demands that the SDF will be forced to take action in Pak Nam Pran."

"A breakdown in negotiations could see SDF forced to take the city by force and use southern contractors to fulfill positions normally maintained by locals. Such drastic actions are things that the SDF is adverse to committing to, however there are no other viable solutions aside from compromises."

"Speaking of compromises," Apasiri interrupted as she transitioned into the next item, an image of the extremist Sayan Jaa appearing in the top right corner, "Assemblyman Sayan Jaa has yet to be replaced by his Citizen Council, which may be protesting the actions of the National Assembly. This does not bode well for the National Assembly, as support for the Unity Regime in the north is quickly fading. To blame; the Red Shirts say that the government is moving too slow. The insurgents claim that the people are being killed by the militia. The government says that people are whimsical, and when things do not go their way, they either complain or change their minds."

"Hah, that's so true!" chuckled Banyat, "My wife'll take all the credit until things go bad, then suddenly it's all my fault!"

Apasiri grinned but continued. "In other news, the National Assembly has passed legislation which will require all industries in Sinhai to comply with new regulations, forcing big businesses and small businesses alike to reduce their pollution and waste, encourage carpooling, and other first-step measures. The Department of Industry has expanded to include a Compliance Council which will ensure that all businesses meet the requirements. The next items on the docket for the National Assembly include 'what to do with the oil wells' and 'how to create sustainable fishing and logging'."

"Hello there, my fellow citizens. Welcome to UBN, state certified media, my name is Banyat Bantadtan, and this is my co-anchor...," Banyat was looking well today, despite the weary bags under his eyes that were meticulously covered up by a makeup crew. He turned to Apasiri, who beamed like sunshine with all the radiant happiness of a child.

"...Apasiri Pichaya, and this is National News on the Nine." She flipped her hair while an image of the former Assemblyman Sayan Jaa appeared on the top left of the screen. Her face quickly turned stern, and it was a comical sight to see. "Stalled negotiations between the Unity Regime and 'Red shirts' in Pak Nam Pran have continued amid startling developments, including the representation of the Red Shirted Sinese protesters by non-other than former Assemblyman Sayan Jaa. This development baffled Unity Regime negotiators, who listened to a unified list of relatively simple demands. Despite the new list of demands, Unity Regime negotiators have stated that they are unsure they will be able to agree to all points, and that a compromise must be reached. They have cited points such as the 'expulsion of minority residents from jobs better suited to homeborn Sinese', and 'the cessation of trade with states that support Khalistan and Dai Viet, including Oikawa and Mayaland'. Negotiations will continue, however, Unity Regime officials that it is discomforting to see such a high-profile individual such as Sayan Jaa supporting a dissident faction within Pak Nam Pran, hardly his hometown and representative area of Sai Yok."

"Meanwhile," Banyat interjected as the screen showed images of protesters in Sai Yok, "protests have erupted in Sai Yok, calling SDF actions in Sai Yok a 'violation of privacy and human dignity', citing unwarranted invasions of many homes and the ransacking of houses without possibility for compensation. Because of the nature of the protest, the SDF opted to not provide protection for the multitude of people protesting, which include armed persons who may be affiliated with a number of militant factions in Sai Yok who are in conflict with both insurgents and SDF ground forces."

Film of an SDF spokesperson filled half the screen. "We are unwilling to create more conflict here by sending troops to protect a rally that is clearly armed and anti-troop. It is clear to the SDF that this rally is supported by militant factions; they have weapons, they can provide their own protection. Our resources are best applied elsewhere."

"The SDF spokesperson made no comments on allegations that SDF personnel are damaging private property in Sai Yok," Apasiri added, and she moved on to the next topic. "Militants continue to be the origin of much of the violence in Northern Sinhai, with attacks on Dai Viets near the border increasing exponentially. Mae Suat, the largest urban area near the Dai Viet border, has seen a drastic increase of death squad-related murders against Viet citizens in recent days, and with the Sinhai-Dai Viet Border explicitly closed, Viets have few places left to flee. Those Viets with the capacity to flee have begun moving further into the mountains, where PIP Insurgents maintain significant strength. Already, the SDF believe that the insurgents are maintaining a significant population of refugees, and rumors are circulating that PIP insurgents are in talks with Unity Regime officials to discuss the providing of humanitarian aid to such refugee camps. Insurgents have taken a strong stance against militants, with violence in Sai Yok seeing attacks on several known militant strongholds by PIP mortars. Despite these moves, the insurgency continues to lose ground to the militia's. What this means for the continuing SDF Counter-Insurgency Campaign in Sai Yok has yet to be seen."

"In other news," the camera shifted back to Apasiri, while pictures of the Sinhai Stock Exchange appeared in the top right corner, "Madame President Marjhan Visariya announced today that the Sinese economy is beginning to show signs of stabilization, though inflation does persist as several large employers have begun lowering wages. The Department of Industry is expected to take legal action against such companies within the coming weeks, but the President has stated that 'Price locks will continue until the consumers are confident. Already banks have started showing renewed faith in our economy, and I will say this: the economy is not in danger of this insurgency in the north. Our economic core has always been in the far south, and this is in no way endangered by these recent developments. Our economy has been decreasing because of irrational consumer panic, but none of our industries are showing decreased output because of the insurgency. Business owners and stockholders can only blame themselves for their fiscal losses. Our economy is safe from the insurgency, and I ask that the Sinese people realize that the only real losses expected to come in the coming days will be from government-instituted reforms. Because of this, the price locks will stay fixed, to encourage investors to buy stocks while they are low. Once the price locks are released, the value of your investments will grow back to what they once were. Adhere to your civic duty, do not abandon the nation in a time of crisis!'"

"Welcome Citizens to UBN, state certified media, my name is Banyat Bantadtan, and this is my co-anchor...," Banyat smiled at the camera's, sparkling white teeth that had more than likely been meticulously cleaned by a dentist flashed at the camera. The beautiful woman sitting next to him smiled back at him and looked to the camera.

"...Apasiri Pichaya, and this is National News on the Nine." She shifted in her chair a moment while a familiar image of the radical Sayan Jaa filled up the screen again. "Sayan Jaa has been branded a traitor by the Unity Regime, which is pressing charges against the former assembly for fomenting rebellion, murder, and high treason. Evidence supports accusations that Sayan Jaa was responsible for the murder of two Unity Regime negotiators at Pak Nam Pran, sparking a violent conflict that witnessed the deaths of 38 people, including a number of SDF personnel."

"The reason behind Sayan Jaa's brash actions are unknown, but it is speculated that the former Assemblyman was disgruntled by his dismissal from his office; however there are other speculations that Sayan Jaa is behind numerous anti-government movements, and that the event was not out of character for the radical. Since the attack, the renegade politician has been unheard from, but anonymous sources within the SDF report that orders to "shoot on sight" have been authorized in regards to Sayan Jaa."

Banyat picked up after Apasiri, footage of Sai Yok burning took over the screen. "Meanwhile, militants assaulted Camp Pagraya, one of several SDF staging points for the SDF's Summer Counter-Insurgency Campaign. With increasing aggressiveness among the populace, including a number of battles between armed residents and SDF troops conducting raids, the SDF has decided to postpone current operations and fortify critical locations within the city. More news as developments unfold."

"In other news, the Sinhai bourse (Stock Exchange) closed Tuesday with an overall increase in the majority of sectors throughout the economy, the first signs of economic growth in several months," Apasiri smiled to reinforce the positive thought. "The Unity Regime has ordered the Department of Industry to evaluate the prices in various markets and adjust them as necessary prior to the freeing of prices. However, Sinhai bourse reports large numbers of Sinese banks taking advantage of the low cost of stock."

"In related news, officials from within the Department of Industry have noted that tourism has not suffered significantly from the economic decline, with one official noting that liberalization of the sex trade has seen a large number of sex tourists visiting Sinhai, helping keep the sector of industry strong, enough so that several markets are working on expanding to include casino's. Additionally, the large amounts of violence have seen some thrill-seeking tourists visiting riskier areas of the country in the hopes of seeing violence, despite Unity Regime warnings."

 Madame President Addresses Nation, Denounces Vangala
______________________________________

SPECIAL REPORT
President Addresses the Union

"Peace. This is a dream that many of us have, and we hope to give to our children. It is a dream not easily attained. It is elusive, and it may always be, but we can always strive for it. It is found in unity, in common purpose, in selfless sacrifice for the greater good of humanity. This is the purpose, the goal, of the Unity Party, and I would give my life to see this dream come true."

"But this dream is, for now, always just outside of my own reach, because my dream turns into a waking nightmare when I read the reports that come across my desk. Not four hours ago, Vangala launched missiles capable of striking our allies, and the world believes Vangala to be capable of launching missiles able to strike Sinhai. We all know Vangala is responsible for terrorism, that they are responsible for the murder of good Sinese people. Whether or not they admit it, whether or not we have evidence, five different nations all making the same accusation without prior consultation cannot be lying! It is popular consensus! It is no coincidence that Communist rebellions are only being sparked in nations viewed as a threat to Vangala!"

"We may not have the authority to prosecute Vangala for its crimes against our nation, but we will not tolerate this rogue states continued malevolence to regional stability. This missile launch is not acceptable. Moheen Chatterjee, you are responsible for the murder of no less than 2,000 people. You, or any other Vangalan official, are not welcome in this sacred Union. Forthwith, the Sinhai Union revokes its relationship with Vangala; our diplomatic mission is to be withdrawn. Yours has been given 48 hours notice to leave before arrest warrants are issued, the charges are 'Fomenting Rebellion', and the death penalty for this crime will not be waived so long as I live. Should you wish to speak to Sinhai in the future, a proxy will be required. This includes negotiating the release of your detained sailors. Sinhai will also begin accepting all refugees from the Vangalan terror state, offering amnesty to all seeking it."

"Moheen Chatterjee, know this: the violence you brought upon Sinhai is being paid in blood. Red is our land, more red than your land. Our people grow tired of your meddling, and the violence that you witness in the north is of your own making. You are to blame."

The Republic of Jizhou emphatically agrees with and congratulates the President of the Sinhai Union on her brave statements against the criminal regime in Vangala. It is no secret that this supposed missile test was intended to intimidate the Republic and her dear allies, the Union being among her dearest. As such, the Republic is proud to stand in solidarity with the Union in opposition not only to Vangala, but to the very principles of communism, terrorism and imperialism for which their so-called People's Republic stands.

It is for these reasons, and many others, that the Foreign Ministry for the Republic of Jizhou maintains its 'Support Sinhai' campaign to promote a bright future for the newly risen free peoples of Cathay.

Ten Thousand Years of Life to the President, the Republic, the Union and Our Invincible Friendship.

The Government of Fulanistan is deeply concerned about the situation between Sinhai and Vangala and hopes that peace and stability will be achieved instead of war.

The Unity Party has the Rehber and Barazi's full support in their latest tactic to rid themselves of terror and instability. The Sinhai Union has every right to take these sorts of actions if it is, in fact, in the name of peace for the Sinese people. Oscelik applauds you.

 Ceasefire With Insurgents Inflames Nationalists

 Price Freeze Ends
______________________________________

"Welcome Citizens to UBN, state certified media, my name is Apasiri Pichaya," the beautiful anchorwoman announced before turning to the man next to her, "and this is my coanchor..."

Banyat smiled at Apasiri and turned to the cameras, "...Banyat Bantadtan, and this is National News on the Nine. Important news today in the wake of the missile test by Vangala, as SDF forces move to show that they will not back down in the face of such threats. Commander Ahremen Arkhan stated today that the SDF will initiate a series of war games designed to test and display Sinhai's ability to 'bring the fight to our enemies'. The war games will test Sinhai's ability to land forces on beaches, insert special forces into high risk areas, practice breaching techniques, and wage offensive maneuvers with equipment deployed from ships. SDF has stated that the SNDF's carrier, the Moksha, will be participating in these war games."

"Though the SDF did not explicitly state that these war games would be conducted with Vangala as a target, they acknowledge the first-strike threat posed by the Communist state, and officials stated that 'The best defense is a good offense. If Sinhai were to be attacked by a foreign power, we would need to be capable of bringing the fight to them.'"

"Unity Party officials further stated that 'there is no need for Vangala to maintain such weapons, as such weapons could only logically be used for two tactics: attacking civilian centers, or supporting an offensive campaign.' It is unknown whether or not this event will spur the Unity regime to pursue it's own first/second-strike capability against the Communist state, and further, possibly even against it's mentor, Carentania."

"'We know that nothing Vangala does goes without the support of other red states. Carentania is it's ally, and if Vangala fires missiles on Sri Rama, we know that it is because Carentania will defend against any counter-attack.,'" an official stated in a film clip displayed on the screen. "'If Carentania were to support the use of biological and chemical weapons against Sinese civilians, we need to be prepared to defend against enemies even further away.'"

"In other news," Apasiri began as the clip of the official press release ended, "nationalists in the National Assembly are outraged as the diplomatic office announced that it had successfully concluded talks to initiate a ceasefire with PIP insurgents. The move was ratified by the National Assembly, and will allow SDF forces to assist in the safeguarding of minority refugee camps near the Dai Viet border, as well as supply refugees with necessities. Nationalists, however, noted that the conflict in the North was caused by the Communists in the first place, and that 'the perpetrators need to be brought to justice.'"

"In related news, the color red has spread beyond Pak Nam Pran to Sai Yok, where various militia's show their support of the renegade Sayan Jaa. Multiple AAR's released by the SDF show that militia's appear to be 'wearing red' and Sahmhang, Sinhai's intelligence agency, announced earlier today that 'there is a worrying possibility that militia's may be uniting under this murderer.'" A shot of Sayan Jaa was seen on the screen. "President Marjhan Visariya has stated that it is of the 'utmost important for all those loyal to Sinhai to work together for the prosperity of our people', however multiple rallies were held today in Sai Yok demanding the President resign."

Apasiri smiled though as she moved on to the good news. "President Visariya also stated today that the economy has indeed stabilized, with banks showing admirable confidence in the Sinese economy. The Department of Industry announced that it's price fixes and wage adjustments have been completed, and that 'the economy is ready to run itself once more'. The President announced that the price freeze, which has been in place for over a week, will be ending tonight. 'It is my hope that the Sinese people trust in the economy as I do. There is nothing to fear, even with the fight ongoing in the north; no businesses have been damaged, no critical ports disabled, no essential railroads sabotaged. There is no reason to panic.'"
