KHÂAO OFFENSIVE PUSHES FORWARD INTO KHANOM

The Khâao Offensive has pushed forward and captured the city of Khanom, marking the first major success of the Union's first major offensive campaign since the start of the militant insurrection. General Silpajarn, the military commander behind this offensive, credited the success of the attack to the spirit of Sinese soldiers and to the successful application of precise air strikes against critical targets.

Sinese Defense Force officials announced publicly that, as of 1:00 p.m., Sinese Ground Defense Forces have suffered no combat losses, minor technical losses, and have a 100% successful engagement rate. SDF command believes that ground forces will successfully liberate Ching Ko as planned, and that northern militant resistance will collapse by the end of the month.

Officials refused to comment on speculations concerning a possible militant counter-attack on the now diminished defenses of Katchaburi Changwat, nor allegations that Sinese Sky Defense Forces have targeted civilian population centers with incendiary weapons.

We wish to congratulate the Sinhai Union as a whole, for their great victory against the insurgents. Wars like these are conflicts that only nations like the Sinhai and Ratomkira can possibly understand. It is our most sincere hope that the forces that threaten democracy will soon be eradicated and that 'Unity, Faith and Loyalty' will be restored.

PEOPLE'S INDEPENDENCE PARTY UPSET OVER CONSTITUTION PROCESS

LAMAE - People's Independence Party representatives today protested the process through which a new Constitution will be created for the Sinese Union. The drafting of the Constitution began early this morning as thirty members of the National Assembly departed the Unity Complex to draft the document at a more secure location.

People's Independence Party believe that the drafting of a Constitution, while noble, has no guarantee of adequately representing multilateral interests and may create even longer lasting complications between the Unity Party and disparate political opponents.

Unity Party officials rebuked these criticisms, citing that "the foundation of a democracy should be done by representatives of the people, which is what is being done. The people in the Assembly are not elite, they are not separate from their peers, they are directly elected from local councils. They have been chosen to draft the Constitution precisely because of their moderate takes on politics. Any Constitutional draft delivered by these thirty men and women will be representative of the entire nations interests."

The Constitutional draft, once finished, will be delivered to the National Assembly as well as People's Independence Party representatives for approval, while debate continues within the National Assembly as to whether or not a national plebiscite should be initiated to ratify the acceptance of the Constitution.

PEOPLE'S GUARD PUSHES TO BAN MANG

In conjunction with the SDF Khâao Offensive, PIP-sponsored paramilitary units in the North have initiated a supportive offensive against peripheral towns in the North believed to be the primary support base of the militias.

Despite being outnumbered, the People's Guard is capable of utilizing sympathetic elements of the population in the North to assist in intelligence gathering and the staging of attacks, which has seen the People's Guard gain the strength to launch an attack on the agricultural town of Ban Mang, once considered the heart of the PIP insurgency and the spiritual heartland of Sinese communism.

People's Guard intelligence units have reported that elements of militia's in the North may be receiving varying degrees of military training, though the truth behind these concerns have yet to be proven. Despite successes in both offensives, military units at Sinyaphum and Plak Raet continue to fight a defensive war against assaults from guerrilla militias. The impact of the military's attacks at the start of he harvest season has yet to be seen on the militia's, though Sinese Defense Force officials are confident that levels of success can be seen already.

The People's Independence Party has established itself as a force for good in the Sinhai Union through co-operation with the Sinese military in combatting dangerous ultranationalist elements. Vangala continues to hope for a peaceful solution to the conflict and a mutual agreement between the People's Independence Party and the Unity Front.

SINHAI DEFENSE FORCE FULLY MOBILIZED

Spokespersons for the SDF announced today that the military had reached maximum readiness and had fully mobilized all units of reserves, with plans to deploy them to critical locations and reinforce combat units. The announcement of maximum force readiness means that an additional six reserve infantry divisions will be deployed from rear locations in the upcoming week; bringing the total active Sinese military to fifteen infantry divisions, one armoured division, and numerous support divisions. Three of these infantry divisions continue to operate counter-insurgency operations in Union-held territory, as well as providing assistance to Crisis Relocation Centers.

Despite the welcomed announcement for the surge in Sinese military forces, which are expected to assist in the Khâao Offensive advance, economists project an overall blow to the economy, as military budgets are expected to rise to support the force from an estimated 2.6% of the budget to nearly 4.8%. The government denies these allegations, stating that the increased budget for the military is being drawn from the funding that was allotted to the northern provinces prior to the opening of hostilities.

Critics have stated that without a budget set aside for the restoration of the North, any occupation would further resentment between the disparate regions. "We will do the very best we can for those who have been forced from their homes and their properties and are living in SDF-protected CRC's," SDF officials stated, pointing to the crisis relocation centers as a necessary part of the expanded SDF budget. SDF officials refused to comment further on the humanitarian goals of the Khâao Offensive.

In related news, the Sinhai Defense Force announced it's intentions to use the increased budget to pursue a general expansion of the military's armoured forces, with an order placed with Sinhai Military Industries for the production of the newly designed Main Battle Tank, which is set to replace all current main battle tanks in the Sinese arsenal. With an order for over 200 of the vehicles over the next five years, this marks the largest single expansion of the Sinese military in four decades. The Kali class MBT is named for the Goddess Kali, consort of Shiva, the bringer of the Kali Yuga, the end of days. While the nomenclature of the vehicle itself may be a pretentious play on mythology, little can be argued with the fact that regardless of the outcome of the war, an age of Sinese society has ended.

The Sinhai Defense Force has also allotted funding for expansions of other sectors of the military, including potential funding for an expansion in the Sinhai Sky Defense Force. The surge in the military has alleviated concerns amongst Assemblymen over whether or not to reinstate the Conscription Act of '44. The additional budget will also allow for a more aggressive recruitment campaign.

Sinese Sky Defense Force Air Strike on Sai Yok Success

Imagery of a successful air strike against Sai Yok, de facto capital of the ultranationalist resistance, was released by SSDF earlier today. Though the details of the attack, and the target, are as of yet unknown, SSDF announced that the strike was a "complete success" with little-to-no civilian casualties.

The Joint Forces Command has praised the SSDF, which has conducted over 3,000 sorties since the start of the conflict and has impacted the tide of several battles. The JFC continues to encourage the civilian community to continue producing munitions for the SSDF, whose needs continue to grow as the requirements of the conflict increasingly dictate.

The North Sinese propaganda machine has already begun responding to the Union attack with allegations of targetting civilians, murder, and war crimes; but the SDF maintains that it does not permit a policy which considers civilian death necessary or acceptable.

In related news, SDF forces have reached Ching Ko a week after the expected time, and are preparing to beseige the city of Pak Nam Pran. SDF officials refused to comment on allegations that weapons carrying submunitions, such as cluster bombs, have been used on Pak Nam Pran prior to the taking of Ching Ko.

8th INFANTRY DIVISION DEFECTS TO NORTH

Plak Raet and Kui Nuea fell today after word of defection came from concerned citizens in the region who noted military personnel falling back from forward positions to secure positions around Plak Raet Provincial Administration. With reservists pushing into the north alongside the Khâao Offensive, this recent turn in events leaves the western periphery of the Sinese defensive line critically weakened, and the already over-extended 7th Infantry Division now extremely exposed.

The fall of the Plak Raet Changwat leaves between one and two hundred thousand citizens behind enemy lines, including numerous Crisis Relocation Centers established for citizens evacuating their possessions near the front lines. Sinese Defense Forces have yet to organize a sufficient counter-attack, and the impact of the divisions betrayal on the tide of the war is still unknown by most military analysts, who note that while the unit itself will not sufficiently bolster the size of the Northern military, their experience and training may impact the efficiency with which the North fights in the coming months.

ASSASSINATION ATTEMPT ON THE PRESIDENT

At 10:25 a.m. Standard Time Friday, September 24 2010, an armoured convoy carrying the President was attacked by an unknown group of assailants. Gunfire was exchanged between the protective detail and suspected terrorists believed to be affiliated with ultranationalist seperatists west of Sri Rama, with the President sustaining critical injuries. President Marjhan Visariya has been hospitalized and remains in critical condition; press has been refused access.

Additionally, seven citizens attached to the Presidents retinue, along with thirteen suspected terrorists, are confirmed killed during an exchange that saw a military helicopter launch rockets at oncoming vehicles in an effort to defend the President. The attack was carried out on Route 10 to Unity International Airport, which received the President from her trip abroad under an hour ago.

The attack began when a large black van broke through a barricade along the highway, which is intersected by smaller farm roads, and rammed the Presidents vehicle. Whether or not the assailants knew the vehicle belonged to the President has not yet been confirmed. The assailants then swarmed the vehicle and fired armour peircing shells through the glass, killing all occupants.

The military is expected to announce a curfew which will take place effective immediately. Any information regarding suspected terrorists or those affiliated with seditious elements in Sri Rama are to immediately notify authorities.

PRESIDENT VISARIYA SUCCUMBS TO WOUNDS

President Marjhan Visariya, the founder of modern Sinhai and the most popular leader in Sinese history, has succumbed to wounds received from an attack on her convoy early yesterday. While the President achieved the impossible and hope for her recovery was slowly growing, damage to her organs ultimately resulted in complete cardiac arrest as of 6:45 p.m. Saturday, September 25, 2010.

President Marjhan Visariya's passing leaves the nation without a designated process for selecting a new national leader, and with no clear successor or method of handling the situation, the National Assembly is already under increasingly extreme pressure to present a viable alternative. However, the task of selecting the new leader of the nation will be an arduous one, with quickly dividing factions within the Unity Party, and ongoing war with a seperatist North, and turmoil in Sri Rama itself as blocks and entire neighborhoods are quarantined to apprehend suspected affiliates of seditious elements of society.

The Presidential burial itself is expected to be held at Sri Rama National Cemetery on October 1, however security personnel have cited concerns for the event as riots break out in several Southern cities; lynch mobs taking to the streets and executing numerous citizens accused of associating with the ultranationalists. Authorities have asked private citizens to refrain from taking action against suspected enemies of the state, and instead referring all details to local prefectures.

The late President presided over the longest period of political liberalization within Sinhai in the past seven decades, eliminating conservative Unity Party politics in favor of expanded political pluralism, establishing a system of citizen interaction in politics, creating a system for citizen referendum, and waging a fight for the Sinese economy in turbulent times. The Union mourns for the loss of our beloved President, and looks apprehensively towards an uncertain future.

On Behalf of the Sinhai Union

We wish to thank the nations of Ascalon and Vangala and Cornavia for their support in our most recent tragedy. Where Sinhai and the Communist world have not had the most stable relationship, it is a positive sign to see solidarity between our two nations against the enemy of North Sinhai, and it also brings joy to the hearts of our people to know that there are compassionate people still left in a world increasingly apathetic to the plight of common people.

MILITARY CRACKDOWN IN SRI RAMA

Demonstrators took to the streets Monday to protest potential reforms being considered by National Assembly members. The protest, which had been authorized by the Citizen Councils of Sri Rama, was expected to be delayed following the death of the nations President. However, when protestors took to the street to protest the motion by the National Assembly, citizens reacted violently. Following several brawls, military units were called in to handle the situation.

Clashes with military personnel followed, with several arrests being made. Opinions among conservative populations express concerns over fairness of a potential Constitution in the wake of the death of the President, noting that as of the current political situation there are no methods in place to limit the power the Legislative branch is capable of granting itself.

Sinese Defense Force spokespersons remarked that the dispersal of a "permissible demonstration by citizens was a regrettable but necessary affairs." Spokespersons refused to comment on mounting apprehension concerning political stability within Sri Rama itself.

CONSTITUTIONAL CONCERNS PEAK; UNITY PARTY FRACTURES

Members of the Unity Party openly dissented today within the National Assembly, leading many cynical critics to wonder whether the very name of the Party was still acceptable given recent events. Several members of more conservative factions lamented recent changes made to Sinese law, as well as compromises made with the People's Independence Party. Criticisms and concerns were raised over the process through which the Constitution will be created in the wake of the death of President Marjhan Visariya, who was expected to oversee the implementation of the revered document, considered by many to be the very finest example of her progressive ideals.

Many members of the National Assembly feel that the Constitution may represent the biases of certain groups inadequately, and fail to meet the concerns of other marginal groups. Foremost amongst these protesters are the People's Independence Party, who can no longer look towards a liberal Southern leader to push forward a comprehensive and moderate Constitution.

Other concerns have been raised concerning the future of Sinese leadership; whether or not the nation itself should restore the Executive or champion Legislative Republican Democracy. With no given process for the reinstatement of the President, with the Presidium now defunct and a national election difficult to implement during wartime - many believe that the only solution is available through Constitutional reform, pushing harder the impetus for fair reform.

ARGUMENT DEGENERATES INTO FIST FIGHT IN ASSEMBLY; MILITARY INTERVENES

The Sinhai Defense Force responded to an altercation within the National Assembly, where unknown representatives reportedly began a heated argument concerning equality and fairness in a potential Constitution. High tensions propelled the argument into a fist-to-cuff brawl, leaving one Assemblyman, Ubol Anwar, bloodied, and several others with other injuries.

SDF units cited national defense concerns as the principal reason for their intervention in the dispute. Despite this, sources within the Sinhai Defense Force have expressed doubt about the ability of the Assembly to stabilize the nation through Constitutional reform, and this sentiment was echoed by top leaders when the military called for Assemblymen to return to their homes. Ostensibly, this order was given to allow tensions within Sri Rama to simmer down.

The Unity Complex, the principal government building in Sri Rama, has now been vacated, with only routine patrols of military personnel a sign of life from the Sinese government. Concerned citizens are fearful to admit their apprehension for this recent turn of events, but many others believe the action was necessary and that the National Assembly simply does not have the political experience to independently run the nation.

We hope this unfortunate turn of events does not mark the end of the reform process - or even worse, the possible begin of a military rule in Sinhai.

Chaos and political instability in the Sinhai Union must not be replaced by militarism. The current crisis can only be resolved through concerted action by the Unity Front government and their partners in the People's Independence Party. Vangala is deeply concerned about the situation and shall continue to monitor events in the Sinhai Union.
