TRABANT PLANT FINISHES CONSTRUCTION

Trabant 'Stad' (see: ) electric vans have become a common sight on the busy, crowded streets of Sri Rama, where small businesses are encouraged. The light van has allowed dozens of companies to do what was previously not possible, carry significant loads of supplies quickly, and conveniently, across the city while avoiding gas prices that have risen steadily since the government called a moratorium on further oil drilling contracts.

The success of this vehicle in Sinhai could present a model for other overcrowded Oriental nations that support both small and large businesses, and Trabant has taken the initiative to pursue expansion into other Oriental markets.

"Sinhai is a stepping stone into the east, a country with no political leaning to, or against, the LFS. This makes it an ideal location for an assembly plant... the government has taken many steps to ensure that this plant was not just a success for Trabant, but for Batavie and Sinhai as a whole," stated Batavian manager of the plant, Guus Alstein, who has recently taken residence in Debal.

Sinese investors began to worry when hostilities broke out within Sinhai, fearing the Batavian-based corporation would cancel the project and look elsewhere; but the government quickly ensured the high profile project would go undisturbed by assigning military units to the region to deter potential terrorist threats.

"Sinhai's greatest national asset is it's people; it's second is it's economy. We simply cannot allow minor threats to damage this nation's reputation when we have the resources to prevent such things," stated SDF spokesperson Col. Tida Wattanayagorn, present at the ribbon-cutting ceremony in Phai Sing industrial park.

Economic advisors and members of the Secretariat for Industrial Management are scheduled to meet over the following week to discuss cooperative market strategies and regulatory restrictions - such as worker benefits. However, the Batavian corporation has stated that it plans to pursue a cordial working relationship with the Sinese worker and respect Sinese cultural conceptions.

GENERAL PHIYADA ABROAD; ESTABLISHES PRIVY COUNCIL AND CABINET

General Phiyada, interim head of state and general of the armed forces in Sri Rama, has traveled to Minhdao today to strengthen relations with one of the world's least liked states. Minh-Sinese communities have mixed feelings concerning the visit; while many would prefer the Sinese government refuse to recognize the often considered corrupt leadership of the Chuthe regime, others believe the move is a good sign of a stable and diverse future for Sinhai.

Prior to departing, General Phiyada made preparations that would permit continued bureaucratic efficiency by establishing two functional organizations: the privy council and the cabinet. Both organs of the executive branch, the privy council is the network of the nations most prominent security advisors, though their names and ranks have not been released. The cabinet represents the Secretaries of Sinhai's various Secretariats; whose goal is to play an advisory role to the head of state, advising on national policies and agendas as well as providing council in times of crisis and a clear line of succession in the event of the passing of the head-of-state.

The Council for Constitutional Reform has announced that the Constitutional document is in it's final stages, and is working with General Phiyada's fledgling administration to determine how best to permit a national and comprehensive referendum. Despite difficulties, Phiyada's administration is preparing to nominally accept the document by the end of the week in order to begin transferring governmental institutions back into civilian hands. The failure of the Constitutional referendum may force the military government to reverse such a process; however polls show that a new Constitution, regardless of it's form, already has a 40% approval rate; the Constitution in it's current form is polled at above a 70% approval rate, and the military government is not planning for severe resistance to the implementation of the reform.

NORTHERN MILITARY DISTRICT ESTABLISHED; RESETTLEMENT BEGINS

Despite the Sai Yok conflict seeming to grow in intensity with every day, much of the North has been secured by SDF forces, and evacuated areas lost to militants have been secured. While many people have lost their possessions to looters, most are happy just being able to return home.

"For a while we weren't even sure we'd have a place to live," said grateful mother of four, Samorn Thanayapat, "I just hope that everyone made it out alright, and that we can get back to a normal life. Being back in a house and out of a shelter is a great feeling."

Special military units have been assigned to resettled areas on the periphery of combat zones to ensure that any militant threat is negated by the presence of well-trained soldiers.

"These people have already had their lives terrorized and most of their property stolen. The last thing we need is for some person to make their lives harder," stated a soldier who asked to remain anonymous.

The CCR has already begun establishing local voting areas in resettled areas to maximize participation in the national referendum, and is looking to cooperate with military units in Sai Yok and the rest of the Northern Military District to ensure that all Sinese, regardless of their affiliation or location, are able to participate in a new era of Sinese politics.

ULTRANATIONALIST HEADQUARTERS LOCATED AND SURROUNDED

Sinhai Defense Forces have surrounded key elements of the ultranationalist proto-government, possibly including former Assemblymen Sayan Jaa, within a heavily fortified bunker in the commerce district of Sai Yok. Military units have effectively surrounded the structure and severed power and water supplies in an attempt to force high value targets to surrender.

Military units are hopeful to capture the leader of the ultranationalist forces, giving them a truly decisive victory against the militant group that has caused havoc for the nation over the previous months. Despite renegade elements of traitor 8th Division attempting to breakthrough SDF lines and create an avenue for evacuation, SDF forces continue to hold out against the assaults.

General Silpajarn is expected to give ultranationalist leader Sayan Jaa an ultimatum to surrender before the end of the night, the result of which will determine the actions that follow. Military spokespersons are hoping to try the rogue politician for, among other things, murder, treason, and crimes against humanity.

However, the capture of Sayan Jaa and surrender of the ultranationalist forces may not bring an end to the war - continued insurgency by rogue elements of 8th Inf. Div. as well as die hard fundamentalists is expected to continue for some time. Sinese military tacticians are expected to begin large-scale counter-insurgency operations in the following weeks, and are hopeful that militancy in the region will fall over time and that the Northern Military District can be re-integrated into the Union.

To ensure no ultranational terrorists enter Minhdao from the south, our Leader has ordered border security seperating Minhdao and the Sinhai Union be boosted. We trust the Unity government will thoroughly take care of the situation in due time. We wish them well.

SAYAN JAA CAPTURED

Renegade leader of the ultranationalist separatist movement, Sayan Jaa, was captured in an assault on a militant stronghold previously identified as the headquarters of the ultranationalist movement. The assault, carried out by members of the SDF's Special Assault Operations Team, saw the deaths of over thirty militant fighters, including a number of traitor SDF personnel assigned to the enemy 8th Infantry Division. The assault apparently captured the majority of ultranationalist leaders, and is already being heralded as a turning point in the war by the SDF's Joint Force's Command.

Already Sayan Jaa is being taken to talks with SDF officials at an unannounced location to be presented terms for complete surrender of insurgent forces in Sai Yok - however critics call this act nothing but symbolic.

"A surrender by Sayan Jaa won't create instant peace in Sai Yok," says political science expert, Professor Li of the University of Sai Yok, "we have a long road ahead of us to repair not only the recent conflict, but 70 years of oppression that has significantly changed the very persona of the people of the North. Acclimatizing these people into a stable and liberal society will take time."

However, the Unity government and the military regime that followed eliminated the budget formerly designated to rebuild the North, instead funneling the money into ending the war. While the money has obviously helped, it is likely that it will create a significant setback in the rebuilding of the North. The military government has established basic guidelines for reconstruction, but is leaving the majority of legislation for a new Republican government.

The capture of Sayan Jaa should be welcomed as a major defeat for extremists and terrorists in the Sinhai Union but the international community should not allow the military dictatorship consolidate control because of this success.

The Chuthe government of Minhdao applauds the recent capture of the well-known terrorist Sayan Jaa. This is indeed a new stepping-stone towards a bright end to this tragic conflict still sweeping the Sinhai Union; and also most concerning, northern Sinhai which borders Minhdao.

แถลงการณ์จากสำนักการต่างประเทศรัฐมนตรี
Statement from the Office of the Secretary of Foreign Affairs

We are aware of Vangalan and other nation's concerns for the continued stability of Sinhai and the desire to see a swift end to military rule, and the military regime is working quickly to resolve the current issues. However, this Office must warn Vangala against continued inflammatory remarks that are against the decorum and respect commonly afforded to nations, as such remarks are not in keeping with the good will and humility inherent in successful international relations. The diplomatic campaign of the People's Republic against the Union appears to foster fear in nations with vested interests in Sinhai; interests which are under no threat from reforms instituted thus far by the current regime and interests which have only been further secured through martial success against the insurgency in the North. We ask that Vangala and the world community as a whole patiently await the resolution of the constitutional and democratic process enacted by the military regime, and conducted by civilian institutions, before arriving at conclusions.

As a sign of good will between Sinhai and Vangala, the potential Constitutional document which will be presented before and voted upon by the people of Sinhai shall also be forwarded to the People's Republic's embassy in Sri Rama.

Concerning the matter of the capture of Sayan Jaa and possible resolution to armed conflict in the North, the Phiyada regime will first negotiate a truce with the ultranationalist leader and war criminal Sayan Jaa before pursuing charges for crimes against humanity in a court hosted by a reputable third party - already discussions are being held for such a trial to be held within Paris, Belmont. We hope that the treaty signed with the militant leader will reduce overall militancy in the Northern regions, allowing foreign aid and humanitarian workers the opportunity to effectively assist in the reconstruction of the North and create some modicum of normality in living for the people residing there.

The fears of the People's Republic of Vangala are based on the past actions of the Sinese military, which include the massacre of refugees and Vangalan sailors. We should await an inclusive government supported by the Sinese people before re-establishing ties with the Sinhai Union.

DARWIN TOSSES IN HIS GRAVE; A COMMUNITY AT LOSS FOR WORDS

Science is a force of progress in a world seemingly at odds with itself, and a people destined to beat themselves back into the stone ages. In a world of corruption and malice, science offers an explanation to things most find otherwise irrational and unreasonable. Darwinism is perhaps one of the most fundamental ideas of the modern world, explaining the success, and failure, of species throughout history.

However, with fertility rates around the world, as well as in Sri Rama, diminishing, there are those that believe the human species itself is approaching it's own dusk. A cult of radicals allegedly apart of this devious ideology have been operating within various slums of the nations capital.

Police spokespersons stated that the case, which has been open for over six years, has involved the single largest network of interrelated sex crimes varying from rapes to abduction to incest. Cult members cooperating with police officers identified no less than one hundred and forty seven related cases, with the earliest thus far identified case beginning in 1992. Investigators stated that the group began as the brainchild of Sarai Samudavanija, 52, a chronically unemployed schizophrenic individual who brainwashed no less than twenty-two women into believing that his genetic material was superior to the rest of society. Through years of deviant acts, Sarai accumulated a "royal family" of interbred men and women that consist of four generations of individuals. Police have gathered evidence that suggests Sarai reproduced with not only his plentiful harem of consorts, but also included his daughters and eventually granddaughters in this scheme, as well as encouraging similar acts by his male kin.

In addition to this already long list of perverse and absolutely deviant acts, Sarai and the "family" participated in the rape of a number of women over a period of two decades, and kidnapped no less than twelve children to include as slave-consorts to Sarai and his heirs.

"Officials have been able to deter activities by this group for some time through good police work," stated district attorney of Sri Rama, Hanuman Kupratakul. "However, investigators found it difficult to find suspects that would cooperate enough to give us the critical break in the case. Eventually, through persistence, our police were able to catch over ninety individuals, eliminating the cult." Mr Hanuman has assured victims and witnesses that there is enough evidence for police to prosecute the case without personal testimony. "Eye witnesses are simply used to support real evidence. We have enough real evidence that any jury would find it impossible not to convict." The DA looks to push no less than four hundred and thirty one charges against Sarai. If found guilty, Sarai may face a sentence as long as one thousand seven hundred and sixty years in prison, as well as chemical sterilization - the DA stated that the death penalty would be a gift for Sarai.

"It's simply not enough punishment to end his life. We'll find a way to ensure that our laws have the maximum effect in this case," Mr Hanuman stated.

Police Chief Sirichok Wanichbutr has stated that this is the end of the single largest case the SRPD have ever opened, and that Sri Rama will continue to be a beacon of peace and justice. "These events occurred in the periphery of Sri Rama, which was part of the reason for the difficulty in cracking the case. They occurred amongst elements of the poorer populations in the slums of the area, and our department is already working to increase police presence in the area."

Sri Rama, with a greater metropolitan area of seventeen million, is famous for maintaining the most effective police force per capita of any city in the East, and continues to have remarkably low levels of crimes per capita.

TREATY BRINGS HOPE FOR PEACE, BUT HIGHLIGHTS PROBLEMS OF THE NORTH

The Sinhai Defense Forces celebrated a major victory yesterday evening when General Silpajarn accepted the unconditional surrender of Sayan Jaa and the radical ultranationalist force, re-legitimizing Sri Rama's sovereignty over the North and criminalizing continued resistance by numerous groups in Sai Yok and elsewhere. The terms presented by the SDF promised to pardon combatants who had caused significant amounts of property damage, and in some cases are responsible for numerous crimes that, without the treaty, could see thousands of peasant farmers tried for war crimes. The treaty is hoped to be the first step towards reducing overall militancy in the North and increasing public perception of the South and the military in Sai Yok. The pardon did not extend to the traitor 8th Inf. Div.

Despite the signing of the treaty, Sayan Jaa was largely a figurehead without much control over the military - a combat force largely composed of terrorized peasant farmers incited to violence as well as elements of the traitor 8th Infant Division, whose reasons for betraying the Union are hitherto unknown. However, the treaty will allow Sinese law to be reinstated over the North, and allow the SDF to begin recreating public institutions such as the police and local government.

The Sinese government is preparing to transfer custody of Sayan Jaa to Belmontien courts for prosecution of war crimes, despite criticism at home. "We cannot try Sayan Jaa for war crimes here," explained General Phiyada at a press conference. "I don't think there is a judge in this country that can try him fairly at this time, much less the three needed to form a triumvirate. Any trial we hold would just be called, and probably with truth, nothing more than a show trial. And frankly, I'm proud of that. I would not want to live in a country where the judicial system does not believe in the absolute defense of the people."

The People's Republic of Vangala welcomes the defeat of the ultranationalist rebels in the Sinhai Union and hopes for long-lasting peace and stability. However, we remained concerned about the future of the country and reiterate our demand for a truly democratic government supported by the Sinese people.

The Kingdom of Belmont sees the situation on the ground in Sinhai and we must say that at this moment the ideal solution is unworkable. The Kingdom is working with Sri Rama to ensure stability in the country. Stability will naturally lead to democracy.

SINHAI ACCEPTS CONSTITUTION; PREPARES FOR NATION-WIDE REFERENDUM

The Phiyada-regime, as expected, accepted the Sinese constitution today as the first stage in implementing the reform that will culminate in a nation-wide referendum next week. However, some political analysts are skeptical as to the breadth of the referendum.

"While we would like to include the North in this referendum process, we simply lack a proper census of the region from which to provide a foundation for votes cast in that area. Without a proper census, we have no guarantee that parties will or will not abuse the electoral system - for that reason, we will have to delay the vote in that region," stated an SDF spokesperson speaking on behalf of the Phiyada regime. "Until a proper census is conducted, military law will continue to supercede any constitutional law for the area. We are not going to impose the Constitution on an area that has not been permitted the right to vote on it."

Critics of the Phiyada regime have called this a poorly veiled attempt at creating a segregated political district that would allow the military large amounts of wiggle room. Military analysts also believe that while the situation in Sai Yok is explosive, a proper census may permit the military to more effectively conduct counter-insurgency operations as well as permit a referendum to take place in the area. None of these reforms will be enacted in time for the Nov. 17th deadline.

The military regime is preparing to begin a large number of significant reforms that, while principally aesthetic, are designed to signify the change in national character that Sinhai has undergone since the founding of the Union. These are expected to include the renaming of the state itself as well as multiple government organs.

The decision to exclude the northern regions of the Sinhai Union from voting on the proposed constitution is unacceptable and a devious attempt by the military dictatorship to maintain their monopoly on power. The People's Republic of Vangala will only recognise a new government that is both democratic and popular with the Sinese people. The current junta is neither.

We congradulate General Phiyada's regime for this remarkable stepping stone towards peace in a nation striken by conflict for such a long time. We trust whatever decision the Sinese government makes to exclude the terrorists in the north from having anything to do with the new constitution to be a sound one.

PHIYADA ANNOUNCES UNVEILING OF NEW FLAG AND REBRANDING OF NATION

The Phiyada-regime has busied themselves over the past week with many duties that have effectively created the basis for the new government to take over; institutions providing for a Presidential Cabinet, National Assembly, and reformation of local governments are vacant and lay poised to relieve the military control of government. The military, for its part, has shown no resistance to the notion of relinquishing power.

"Really, the military doesn't need more issues to handle. We already control the north, running the country is just something we have to do - it's not something we want to do forever," said a Sinese officer asking to remain anonymous.

Despite this optimism for a transition to a totally civilian government, the move will not be made for several months as nationwide elections are held that will allow candidates to gather the funds to launch campaigns across the nation. Already debates have been launched over the nature of the origin of campaign contributions, however a lack of clarity in law has allowed more opportunistic candidates to seek financial contributions from some of the nations largest banking alliances.

Despite the facts, the military and people are eager to know that a true Constitution, a document for which all Sinese law can be referred to, will soon be voted on and administered. In celebration, the military regime is prepared to unveil a new flag that will represent the new Republican pride of a unified Sinhai; as well as rebrand the Union officially as the Republic of Sinhai - a term that recognizes the end of decades of strife and conflict and acknowledges the political shift to a more moderate government. Few, if any, politicians remain that can harken back to the fascist days of the 40's and 50's with much clarity and recall happy times.

"Those were desperate times, and they called for desperate actions. Fascism was the only way to survive the Communist onslaught," recalled one of the few politicians who can remember the days, Punyat Padantan.

Polling predicts that the most successful parties to show themselves in the coming days are expected to be quite centrist; with Unity presenting a centrist party to counter what leftist tendencies prevail among the democratic socialist People's Independence. Both of these parties are campaigning heavily in their regions, with Unity showing strongly in Sri Rama and People's Independence performing well in strife-struck regions, especially in the Mae Rae region as well as the worker stronghold of Debal.
