PdJ/MD Bloc attack Government for supporting AGE

[img2]albumid=140&pictureid=1407[/img2]
The Parliament of Belmont, seen here, in Paris

Paris | Royaume de Belmont:

The secondary opposition in Parliament, the PdJ/MD Bloc has slammed the government for supporting AGE in the Batavien/Scanian crisis. The leader of the opposition bloc has said that the AGE had shown itself to be no supporter of peace and they called for the government to show "restraint" and "think twice" on their unequivocal support of Scania in the present case. The PdJ/MD MPs also said that the Government should have done their bit to bring the two parties to meet in Paris and resolve the issue by diplomacy rather than supporting one camp. The PdJ/MD bloc also said that the claims made by the Scanian Chancellor for Justice were irresponsible and damaging to regional stability.

Several PPL/PDSB MPs responded to the PdJ/MD claims by saying that they supported their government's course of action and said that ISE intelligence indicated that the communist nation had indeed carried out the attack on the Lord Mayor of Sjärholm and that the Government's response was sharp and adequate. The government MPs have also said that the government was hoping that the crisis would be raised at the CoN and that a global effort at diplomatic measures to keep the two states at peace was needed.

The 65 former Batavian citizens have had their names recorded. Their family members remaining in Batavië will be appropriately punished for the irresponsible actions of their family members abroad in Belmont. This provocative action by Belmont has led the Politburo to shut down all business connections that exist between Belmont and Batavië.

Any other Batavians currently in Belmont are advised to leave the country at once or risk similar action taken against their family members in the interests of state security. Rewards will be given to those who return.

The affairs of the Batavian government and its subjects are of no concern to foreign entities and are an internal matter.

The collective punishment in Batavie shows that the "People's Republic of Batavie" is a brutal and barbaric regime. Belmont will continue to offer asylum and refuge to all Bataviens looking to escape the excesses of the Batavien regime.

Additionally, the minor business links between Belmont and Batavie that have been closed, we consider it the best decision made by the Politburo of Batavie in its history.

[img2]albumid=140&pictureid=1407[/img2]
The Parliament of Belmont, seen here, in Paris

Paris | Royaume de Belmont:

Last week, the opposition was uneasy with the Government but, yesterday the country was inducted into the EDF's PfS program, as its first member. That one foreign policy coup has managed to silence critics, of the government, in Parliament. In today's session, the PPL/PDSB Coalition leader said that, within a month of assuming power, their government had managed to do something which the PCB government hadn't been able to do in twenty years. The PPL/PDSB Coalition leader also said that the government's newer, more liberal policies, were creating more goodwill for Belmont across the world and that the PPL/PDSB policy of détente in their foreign policy agenda was doing Belmont great favor on the international stage.

The PCB, the main opposition party, has said also said that they support the government's measures at repairing the damage done to Belmont's reputation during the Plantard administration and said that their party would support PPL/PDSB foreign policy initiatives in the Parliament. At the same time, the secondary opposition bloc, PdJ/MD, the bloc has a combined total of 38 seats, has issued a statement where they have said that they are still unsure of the government's policies and have said they are unsure if the induction into the PfS is good for Belmont or bad. The PdJ/MD has also said that they thought that the PfS membership would jeopardize Belmont's sovereignty.

The Government has said that the PfS was the best option for Belmont and they would support it. Polls also suggest that majority of Belmontiens support their country's membership into the PfS.

Nation celebrates 1,196th anniversary of founding of Belmont
[img2]albumid=140&pictureid=1415[/img2]
The flag of Belmont on the Arc de Triomphe, in Paris

Paris | Royaume de Belmont:

Today marks the 1,196th anniversary of the founding of Belmont. The occasion is celebrated every year and people across the nation hold parties and celebrate. As always, three days {26, 27, 28} are public holidays. In Belmont, the celebration of the founding of Belmont is on a much grander scale than the celebrations for the new year and people celebrate the day of their nation's founding with more vigor as well. This year, the first anniversary under Premier Martinique, the capital was the scene of a huge military parade, where many of the new technologies of the armed forces were paraded and displayed. After the parades, there were speeches made by Her Majesty The Queen, Prince Nicolas of Montaigne and Premier Martinique at Parliament.

In her speech, Premier Martinique said that the Kingdom was on the verge of a new era, an era marked by greater economic gains, renewed military power and political stability. She also said that the nation's foreign policy was coming together and she gave the example of Belmontien induction into the EDF's PfS and the recent alliances with southern states. She also pointed out that the military budget was much higher now than in previous years. She also said that she was proud of the PCB for the responsible role they were playing as Her Majesty's Official Opposition in Parliament and said that political stability had come to Belmont and she vowed to keep it that way.

Her Majesty the Queen and Prince Nicolas talked, in their separate speeches, about the ceremony and heritage of the nation and the long history of their family in Belmont. The Queen also touched upon humanitarian issues and said that she would focus her energy and efforts to work with the CoN to bring humanitarian relief to people across the world, wherever needed.

:!: Treaty of Friendship & Cooperation signed between Kingdom & Sultanate
The Foreign Office, in a statement issued yesterday, has said that the Kingdom had signed a Treaty of Friendship & Cooperation with the Sultanate of Hajr, thus cementing the ties between the two states. While many of the clauses remain classified, it is known that there is significant military and economic cooperation between the two states, as a result of the treaty. PCB, the main opposition party, has said that the treaty is in the best interests of Belmont. The Parliament has ratified it, almost, unanimously.

:!: Government to start campaign to encourage blood, organ donation
The government has announced that it would start a campaign to encourage blood donations and organ donations. The Ministry of Health said that the act of donation is already a virtue and to donate something that can, potentially, save another's life is the best thing one can do. The Ministry has said that they would be starting blood donation drives across the country from next month and would try to get more people to donate their organs after they pass away.

:!: PdJ/MD coalition breaks apart, strengthening PPL/PDSB Bloc
There was friction in the group from the beginning but now the PdJ/MD coalition has broken apart. That has enabled the PPL/PDSB bloc, which forms the current government, with more power in the Parliament. The PCB, which has turned into a friendly opposition, has said that the break up of the bloc is "not pleasant" but they said that they were not interested in creating hurdles for the current government. But one thing is for sure, the PPL/PDSB bloc has been strengthened greatly by this event.

Due to the current situation in the north, Her Majesty's aircraft was going to avoid the Scanian/Batavien airspace in any case but we thank the CoBuZa for their response.

Report: PdJ Chairman in talks with PCB to form coalition
Orléans

With their own opposition bloc broken, the PdJ, Parti de Justice, is desperate to align themselves with a stronger party. In an effort to do so, the party's chairman, Pierre Trudenais, has called a meeting between senior PdJ party officials and a delegation from the PCB, Parti Conservatif de Belmont, to see if the two can form an alliance in Parliament. The PdJ, one of the most right-wing parties in Belmont, has long been considered a pariah in Belmontien political circles and has, only under the Trudenais leadership, managed to win more than 5 seats in Parliament. During last month's election, the party managed to receive enough votes to get 11 seats in Parliament.

Political analysts, who have sources in the political parties, have to say that the talks are not going as smoothly as the PdJ leadership would have liked and that the PCB is not looking to form a coalition with the PdJ, a party which has at times been to heavy to swallow even for the most conservative elements of the PCB. But regardless of how the talks go, the PPL/PDSB bloc remains strong, enjoying control over 276 seats, or 55.2% of the seats in Parliament, and the coalition doesn't seem concerned by the latest turn of events in Paris.

Ministry of Foreign Affairs waives visa requirements for Anbat & Hajr
Paris

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced that the visa requirements for Anbati and Hajri citizens had been waived and the Government of Belmont would also be considering lowering tariffs to increase Anbati and Hajri trade with Belmont. The lowering of tariffs and dropping the visa requirements is part of the treaty Belmont has signed with the two countries from the south.

University of Paris to set up scholarship fund for students from Anbat, Hajr
Paris

In an effort to get Anbati and Hajri students to attend Belmontien universities, the nation's premier university, University of Paris has started a fund of ₣5 Million ($4M) to finance students. The scheme, initiated by the University's Chancellor, has been received positively by members of the Belmontien society and by the government. Several other Belmontien universities and institutes of higher learning have plans of their own to start scholarship programs for Himyari students.

ALERT: PCB declines PdJ's offer for Parliamentary Bloc
Orléans

Late last night, it was reported that the PCB delegation, sent to talk with PdJ leaders, had departed from the city and that the talks between the two parties had broken down. Earlier today, the PCB issued a statement in which they said that the party had "no interest" in forming an alliance with "an oppressive, anti democratic and criminal excuse of a party". The harsh statement was issued at the party's headquarters and was announced by the party's press secretary.

What happened between the representatives of the two parties, we have no clue, but it seems that whatever it was, the PCB has been gravely offended by the PdJ and its leaders.

:!: PdJ, PCB continue in verbal hammering
The PCB, a centre-right party, and PdJ, a right-wing party, have continued their war of words in the week and the situation has gotten quite tense, even after The Queen has called on leaders of the two parties to meet with her at the Chateau de Charbonne. While the situation is bad for the opposition, the Government seems to be strengthening its own position, taking advantage of the disorder in opposition benches.
