Hello and welcome to CPB evening news.
Todays head story: Akhaltsikhen forces have caused thousands of civilian deaths in a bombing run on the metropolis of Tetri Tsqaro. The city, which is the second largest city of Akhaltsikhe, was almost completely destroyed in the attack that came shortly after it fell to Urudoah rebels. Unable to defend their positions on the ground, the Akhaltsikhen government that has been facing growing resistance to its policies of racial segregation, ordered the complete destruction of the city and all its inhabitants from the sky.
Reports from Tetri Tsqaro indicate a humanitary crisis of a degree which Himyar hasn't seen since the Great War. Those who survived the carpet bombing are often injured or at least homeless, without food, water and medical supplies. The city's infrastructure collapsed during the attack and hospitals were just as much the target of aerial attacks as power stations, supermarkets or homes. According to informations from within the Akhaltsikhen military, the attack was even supposed to cause as many civilian deaths as possible amongst the Urudoah, aiming to terrorize the rebellious population back into submission.
Carentania has called for a quick resolution to the ongoing crisis in Akhaltsikhe and announced it will seek out regional partners to formulate a response to the indiscriminate violence by the Akhaltsikhen government. "With racism raising its ugly head in Freiheit, we have to be even more determined to preven the same atrocity from spreading through Himyar," Commissar Dusan Mejic said, furthermore commenting that Himyar needs to stand as a whole on this matter and not waste time in needless diplomatic formalities.
However, with Carentanias tough stance on Freiheit being ill received due to its most controversial interpretation of international law, its efforts to formulate a multilateral response to the Akhaltsikhen crisis may fall to deaf ears. Meanwhile, worries about a further campaign of state-ordered violence against the Urudoah people in Akhaltsikhe increase within Carentanias southern neighbour and many citizens of Akhaltsikhe hope for foreign intervention.
In other news: Carentania releases majority of Freiheitian diplomatic staff from arrest, commenting that no evidence of criminal behaviour and involvement in the Otchi persecution could be found. Five diplomats remain in custody and will likely face a trial.
