According to soldiers of the Revolutionary Army, several units stationed in Carentania's north have begun receiving basic lessons in Solaren language and customs. If those rumours prove to be true, this may hint to a possible involvement of the Workers' Republic in the conflict between the Arch-reactionary state and the EDF. The Commissariate for Defence as well as the Revolutionary Army have refused to comment on the issue, citing security reasons. They, however, noted that Carentania will be prepared for any possible escalation of conflict in the Long Sea. Neither a continued existence of the fundamentalist papacy in Solaren, nor a EDF puppet in its stead seem to be desirable for Carentania, which relies on trade-routes in the Long Sea.

Socialist organizations in Carentania have protested strongly against the crackdown on oppositional socialist currently underway in the formerly Vanguardist state of Sereniérre. The arrest of a large number of party members believed to be in opposition to the pro-capitalist reforms of the government marks the latest step of the violent transformation of Sereniérre towards a bourgeoise dictatorship. Carentanian socialists, most notably the Union of Communist Workers, Carentania's largest labor union, have called upon citizens of Sereniérre to take all means necessary to overthrow the dictatorship in Sereniérre and put a stop to the capitalist-led desintegration of the countries economy. "We will give all those who fight back in this war the government of Sereniérre declared on its people, our full support and solidarity," a spokesperson of the UCW commented.

A freighter has run ashore near the city of Dravinja. The Carentanian ship that was mainly filled with assorted grains apparently overlooked several beacons that marked the safe route to Carentanias former capital and hit shallow waters. An investigation commission has been tasked to find out why the ship missed the buoys and also confirm or dispel the validity of allegations that the captain of the ship was drunk at that time. Meanwhile, all sailors aboard the ship have been saved by a rescue helicopter and according to the coast guard, there is no danger of fuel leaking from the ship, that is firmly lodged on a sand bank. Recovery of the ship, however, may take several days or even weeks.​

Additional forces are sent north, making Carentanias military mobilization along the Long Sea even bigger than that prior to the intervention in the Jurzani civil war. The Commissariate for Defence, which ordered the deployment of at least one complete air division consisting mainly of "Magpie" multirole-fighters, commented that this massive deployment of forces is necessary due to the elevated threat level in the region. Both Solaren, whose despotic regime is in difference to the former Akhaltsikhe not plagued by a powerful oppositional force, as well as the EDF, with their powerful surface fleet operating in the Long Sea, must be considered much more dangerous to Carentanias sovereignity and regional stability than Akhaltsikhe was.

In an incident probably related to the threat of war in Solaren, the catholic bishop of Cazma, Grigorij Cerar was shot following a mass. Cerar was noted as a radical and dangerous figure from the far political-right, often preaching against unbelievers such as atheists, muslims and jews as well as, recently very often, followers of the Solaren church. According to witnesses, Bishop Cerar had assaulted the followers of Solaren Pope Urban during his last mass, claiming that their church is a work of the devil and to "fight them and root them out" was the work of god. The assassin is a 20-something man of Solaren origin, believed to be either a violent fundamentalist or even an agent of the Solaren regime. The man was apprehended and investigations are on their way.

The central-European nation of Wiese has probably injured 20 of its citizens and killed another 8 in what can be best described as a missile test gone wrong. While the report about a missile-test was released seperately from the story about a massive blast in the city of Regensburg, the information about a missile of such range and power that it could easily be the source of the explosion was curious at the very least. There are also witnesses who are said to have reported to have seen a flying object hit the destroyed object before it burst into flames. Unsurprisingly, the government of Wiese has not commented on the allegations and implied an outside source as cause of the explosion.​

Solaren Launches Preemptive Strike on EDF

The intense military posturing around the Arch-reactionary state of Solaren has led to a preemptive strike by Solaren on the European Defence Federation. Solaren Pope Urban has issued an official declaration of war on the nations of the EDF, demanding an end to the threatening presence of EDF forces in the vicinity of the nations borders. Witnesses report that the Solaren military has assaulted EDF positions in Lorraine, allegedly going as far as using chemical weapons on the assembled forces and civil population along the border to Solaren. While the Carentanian government could, at this point, neither confirm nor deny the accusations levelled against Solaren, it already announced that any use of chemical weapons against civilian populations constitutes a war crime of the most heinous kind and must meet grave repercussions.

Meanwhile Revolutionary Navy forces operating in the Long Sea report that the fleet of Solaren has withdrawn to its coastal waters, possibly to evade a confrontation with the massive fleets of the EDF. The Commissariate for Defence has nevertheless issued a warning for all ships travelling in the area, noting the possibility of submarines still in operation in the area, as well as a possible future offensive by the Solaren navy or air force against ships in the area it considers to be hostile. Trade vessels from allied countries were advised to follow paths laid out by the Carentanian military and protected by Carentanian fregates and destroyers.

As a direct consequence of the war, expatriates from Solaren have gathered in Rijeka, announcing their intention to form a "Solaren National Congress" in exile. The duty of this national congress would be to work towards a liberated and independent Solaren, gather support for a transition towards a free society and prepare a constitution for a future, liberated Solaren. The Carentanian government has announced its neutrality towards the Solaren National Congress, but also promised free visa to any Solaren expatriate travelling to Carentania with the intention of participating in the Congress. According to its founding members, the Solaren National Congress will release a first position paper within the next days, detailing what it considers to be the most important issues the organization should adress.

The declaration of war by Solaren has also sparked a number of smaller anti-war demonstrations throughout Carentania, though the seem divided on who is to blame for the situation. In Rijeka, a group that demanded the withdrawal of EDF forces clashed with protestors condemning the Solaren chemical weapons attacks. Civilian volunteers seperated the groups and paramedics treated three slightly injured mobsters.​

The Revolutionary Navy Ship "Samobor", an amphibious assault ship of most modern design, has departed for its maiden voyage today. Designed to ferry troops to foreign shores and allow them to land in hostile territories by the use of smaller vessels and helicopters, the "Samobor" is the first of a planned two ships that will expand the reach of Carentanian forces beyond its borders, allowing the Workers' Republic to fulfill its newfound role on the global stage. Manned with experienced sailors drawn from numerous other ships of the Revolutionary Navy, the Commissariate for Defence expects no incidents on the maiden voyage, which falls in the middle of a period of heightened tension in the Long Sea. Many worry that the "Samobor" - named after a famous Gypsy district in Carentanias biggest city Cazma - may see active participation in a conflict all too soon.

The Commissariate for Health has conducted several small scale emergency trainings in the northern city of Paki, instructing the cities emergency services and hospital staff on proper methods to deal with chemical or biological attacks. According to the Commissariate, those are only the first of a series of referates, trainings and simulations that will be held throughout northern Carentania in order to prepare the country for a possible attack with weapons of mass destruction. Since Solaren has used chemical weapons against targets in the EDF country Lorraine, worries about an attack have surfaced in northern Carentania, which is possibly within the range of Solaren missiles. Carentania and Solaren have been part of a longstanding, low-intensity conflict and the recent tension in Solaren has deeply shaken Carentanian society.

Carentania's Commissariate for Foreign Affairs has bowed to Northern Council demands, it seems, to stop trade with Bantyr. Though the Commissariate explicitely denies giving in to any political demands from Northern Council states, it confirms that there currently is no trade occuring with Bantyr, while imports from Northern Council states - specifically Batavien copper - remains to be high. However, the Workers' Republic has been severely affected by the loss of value of the Northern Dollar, which has come under pressure from the world of capitalist investors and speculants due to its ongoing trade war with Bantyr. Having realized the peculiar situation to late, the Foreign Trade Office has held onto its Northern Dollar reserves for too long, essentially costing the Workers' Republic hundreds of millions. According to the Commissariate, the situation is "painful" but "far from critical" and the Office for Foreign Trade hopes to even out the effect through the cheaper price of Batavien copper, now that the Northern Dollar has devaluated considerably. Either way, the problems of capitalist economy will make itself felt on the economy of the Workers' Republic this year.​

my name is Elena Kos and you are watching the Late Night Talk. Here with me today is Father Antonio Mancuso, bishop of the Solaren church in Rijeka. The bishop is an outspoken critic of Pope Urban, yet remains true to his faith.

Bishop Mancuso. Pope Urban in Torrence claims divine leadership and the position of the Pope usually implies unquestioned authority in matters of the church. Yet you are known for questioning his authority. How can you claim to continue to represent the Solaren church, but reject the authority of Pope Urban?

The circumstances of Urbans appointment to Pope are not merely dubious, they are clearly indicating an unrightful seizure of the holy chair. Urban has gained his position not by the will and guidance of our holy father, but through very earthly schemes and politics and quite unchristian acts of violence and terror. His authority is an insult to all our church stands for and stains the memory of the popes of the past and our church as a whole.

How has Torrence reacted to your open criticism of Pope Urban?

I was, naturally, expelled from the church and officially stripped of my title as Bishop. Pope Urban has installed a very authoritarian and direct rule of violence and terror, that revolves entirely around his person. He does not even have a political vision or an ideological goal to fight for, his entire politics are about himself and thus, he surrounds himself not with allies or friends, but with sycophants and those who are loyal for purely pragmatical reasons. Meanwhile, many of the people in my congregation here in Rijeka have seen the truth in my words and stay with me, still treating me as the Bishop of Rijeka. Hopefully one day, Urbans rule comes to an end and we can begin a process of renewal within the Solaren church. One that brings the church back to the path of god.

What is your opinion on the current war fought in Solaren?

It pains me to watch my home-country become the victim of a bloody battle between a mad usurper of the papacy on the one side, and imperialist aggressors on the other. Whoever wins this war, my people will lose. Times like those require hope and solace which we can only find in the arms of god. There is no earthly authority we can turn to, because only by the grace of the almighty, both faces of evil can be struck down and the soil of Solaren cleared from this stain.

You have repeatedly noted that, while Urban needs to be dethroned, the general position of the pope in Solaren should remain one of influence and power.

Yes, that is correct. Solaren is a country of faith and even the very worldly affairs need to be guided by such a faithful hand. But I am also completely convinced, that the Pope needs not to concern himself with every political issue and a parliament or national assembly could take care of the worldly proceedings, while the Pope only intervenes when said parliament acts against the will of god.

Initially, you were involved with the Solaren National Congress that has formed in Rijeka to develope a government in exile. You suddenly stopped your involvement a few days ago. Why is that so?

The congress and I had different opinions about a number of issues. That is all I have to comment on that.

One last question: would you return to Solaren, if Urban is dethroned?

My place is here in Rijeka with my herd. There are far enough men of faith and intelligence in Solaren and beyond to take care of my home. I've been sent to Carentania, to spread the gospel here - and that is what I will do.

Demands by the Catholic Pope for regime-change in Solaren in favour of a catholic theocracy to be led by Luc Cardinal Dubois of Valmy, have met harsh criticism by Carentania's Commissar for Foreign Affairs. Commissar Dusan Mejic has termed the demands "reactionary" and proclaimed that any attempt to impose yet another religiously motivated dictatorship upon the people of Solaren will meet Carentanian opposition. The Commissar emphasized that only an elected representation, working within the framework of a socialist and democratic constitution, can be considered an acceptable and progressive future for a people which has had to endure centuries of cruel oppression.

News of Solaren infringement upon the sovereign territory of Coronado have left Carentanian authorities deeply worried. "We are observing a tendency by Solaren to harass surrounding nations and the traffic within the Long Sea", a spokesperson from the Commissariate for Foreign Affairs said. According to the Commissariate, this strategy of destabilization may be seen by Torrence as a way to put more pressure on the EDF. Carentanias government meanwhile announced it would defend its allies in Coronado, as well as to ensure the freedom of the Long Sea. "Any further provocations will meet appropriate answers," the Commissariate announced. Meanwhile requests by Eiffelland to have Carentania take over the coordination and guarantuee the security of traffic within the Long Sea have been answered positively by Rijeka. Several Corvettes of the Revolutionary Navy are securing routes through the Long Sea and guiding neutral ships through the dangerous waters.

A travel warning has been issued for the nation of Butuan, warning Carentanian citizens against travelling to the small island Kingdom and advising anyone already there to leave the country immediately. Carentanian airlines are ordered to take citizens home without valid tickets. The travel warning has been issued in light of recent aggressive posturing by the Butuan government against its neighbour Cantigny, which has tried to expand influence in the country that's as of now firmly within the EDF-sphere, through humanitarian actions. Butuan has threatened war against Cantigny, should it not cease its humanitarian actions, feeling threatened by the presence of Cannie soldiers in the humanitarian mission.​

The Revolutionary Navy claims to have destroyed several mines laid out by Solaren ships in the Long Sea. Located in international waters, these mines posed a clear threat to sea traffic in the area and were removed by two Carentanian corvettes before they could cause any damage. Currently, Carentania watches over two seperate routes through the Long Sea, securing them for international traffic. The Workers' Republic maintains the right to search any ship relying on this service of navigating and protecting traffic in the Long Sea, for weapons or soldiers that may be illegally smuggled into the Solaren theater.

A short firefight at the border to Hajr leaves two Mezhist terrorists heavily injured, as Carentanian border guards stop an armed group attempting to enter the Workers' Republic. What exactly was their target remains unknown, as the remaining three Mezhists managed to retreat back into Hajri territory and the two injured Mezhists, immediately flown out into a hospital in Sisak, are currently not in any state to answer to questions. The Commissariate for Inner Security has commented it is currently investigating, which Mezhist organization the two men belong to and what their intentions in returning to the Vrbas Kraj were. At this point, however, we are left to speculations.

A tourist couple visiting Rijeka drowned in the Dunay last night, as the two Touzen citizens apparently decided to take a moonlight swim in Carentania's biggest river. Coroners have determined that the couple was heavily intoxicated and evidence secured near the spot where the two Touzen people drowned supports the suggestion, that alcohol was the cause of the accident - a total of fifteen empty cans of cider have been found together with the clothes of the couple. Officials from the Workers' Watch Emergency Services have emphasized once again that no one should go swimming when having drunk alcohol and that the Dunay remains a powerful and dangerous stream, not to be underestimated.​

The Commissariate for Foreign Affairs warns that threats of war coming from Solaren, despite their unspecific nature, should not be taken lightly. "We have seen the atrocities the Arch-reactionary of Europe is willing to commit to advance its goals," the Commissar noted. Solaren has announced its intention to attack the Workers' Republic in a recent public statement, accusing Carentania of "foul and wicked lies". What exactly the Workers' Republic lied about, Solaren however, never specified. "Unspecific or ludicrous demands can be a way to escalate a situation willingly," Commissar Dusan Mejic explained. "We should thus continue to tread carefully around Solaren and prepare for the worst case."

Another firefight at the border to Hajr leaves Carentanian authorities worried, though luckily no one was injured this time. Mezhist terrorists, operating from within the Vrbas Kraj in the past but recently pushed out of the Workers' Republic as result of a succesful offensive, seem to have taken refugee in Hajr. The Commissariate for Inner Security says, it is confident that Mezhist groups are beginning to reorganize within Hajr and seek to establish new strongholds on foreign soil, planning attacks on the Workers' Republic. Hajr, the Commissar said, should not close its eyes from this apparent problem that is developing on its soil. Mezhism is as much a threat to Hajr as to Carentania, the Commissar explained and demanded cooperation from Hajri authorities in bringing the terrorist cells to justice. "Pointing to the retreat of Mezhists onto Hajri territory to escape Carentanian forces is not an insult to Hajri national pride, it is merely stating the facts. It's up to Hajr to act accordingly."

Several Carentanian farming cooperatives, backed and supported by the Commissariate for Economic Planning, have proposed a plan for developement partnerships with Jurzani farming communities. The partnerships would support Jurzani farmers willing to form voluntary cooperatives and abandon inefficient independent farming. Carentanian agricultural experts would improve farming techniques and apply scientific methods to maximise the productivity and sustainability of Jurzani farming, while improved seeds would be shared with the Jurzani farmers. Supplying advanced machinery and fertilizers was also a possibility, the cooperatives noted, but the Jurzani cooperatives would first have to prove a minimum degree of stability to prevent valuable goods from being distributed inefficiently and essentially wasted.​

Carentania Declares War on Solaren - "Relucantly" Says Commissar Mejic

The Workers' Republic is at war with Solaren. This announcement was made by Commissar for Foreign Affairs, Dusan Mejic, mere minutes ago. As we speak, Carentanian planes are assaulting positions in Solaren, while the EDF has to shift a lot of its attention to a new threat coming from Engellex. Europe is dragged deeper into an ever escalating series of war, with Carentanian forces now on the frontline of the battle against the "Monster of the Long Sea", the "Arch-reactionary of Europe" as Carentanian press has called Pope Urban in the past. There can be no doubt about the horrors of his autocratic rule, the destabilizing effect of the Solaren regime on the entire Long Sea region, nor about his crimes against humanity. But is this enough to justify military action that could result in the death of thousands of good men and women, soldiers and civilians alike?

Commissar Dusan Mejic has called the decision "difficult" and says that Carentanias Commissars have only relucantly chosen this step. But with the poor war effort of the EDF against Solarens aggression and the further escalation through Engellex' declaration of war, there was little else Carentania could do if it wanted to protect the security of both its own citizens and those of the people abroad. "It is paradox," Commissar Mejic said, "that in order to end this war, we must first escalate it even further." However, prolonged warfare in central Europe would mean thousands, if not millions of deaths and an equal number of displaced civilians, seeking refugee abroad. The two wars fought in central Europe right now could turn into a fire that sweeps across the globe, endangering civilization on the whole world. "We have already seen first steps towards such a spread of the conflict when Solaren forces violated the territorial integrity of Coronadoan waters. It is better to strike now and force a quick end to this war, than to wait until the war reaches a weakened and distracted Workers' Republic."

There was, however, another reason than mere Carentanian security interests for this recent step. "Carentania," the Commissar explained "now has the once in history chance of aiding the liberation of the Solaren people in much the same manner it helped the people of Jurzan free itself. If Carentania fails to act now, we will either see Pope Urban continue its rule of torture and murder in a most medieval fashion, denying the citizens of Solaren their most fundamental rights for decades to come - or we will see the country fall prey to aggressive imperialist nations, robbing the people of Solaren of their self-determination and installing a puppet regime in Torrence that cares little for its own population."

It remains to be seen whether Rijeka can keep up its promise of a quick liberation of Solaren and prevent excessive loss of life in both Solaren and Carentania, though, as Commissar Mejic said: "deaths are unavoidable in any war - and this makes this decision all the more difficult to the point my heavy heart almost can't allow my mind to make a decision that is right from a purely objective position." However, Commissar Mejic has faith in our boys and girls in the Revolutionary Army and their ability to oust Urban from his throne. Perhaps, so should we as well.​

Despite the war in Solaren the "Dog-shit-town Festival" in the city of Cazma has once again drawn hundred thousands of visitors. The festival features a wide range of music, from indie-rock to electronical music, and a myriad of smaller acts and artists all over the festival area. Considered one of the biggest festivals of the Maximo-youth subculture, the DSTF is the traditional rival of the "Maximo-Park Summer Open-Air", surpassing it in amount of visitors this year. Maximo-youths are known for their liberal consumption of various drugs and their promiscuity - facts that have caused concerns in the general population. Despite that, both festivals are praised as peaceful and orderly cultural events each year by local Workers' Councils.

A specialist team under orders from the Commissariate for Inner Security managed to defuse a crude bomb hidden in a suitcase left at the entrance to a church belonging to Solaren Christianity. The area was evacuated after one of the attendants of the sermon held at the church remarked about the unattanded suitcase emitting a strange humming sounds. Bomb experts were ordered on site immediately and found the bomb to be poorly constructed and quickly disposed without causing any detonation. An investigation commission was tasked with finding the terrorist behind the bomb and a political motive connected to the war in Solaren is expected. The Commissar for Inner Security meanwhile stated that "such misled vigilantism punishing innocents for the actions of a tyrant can not be tolerated".

According to witnesses in Coronado, forces of the Platte Confederation have begun assaulting positions within Lorrainese territory. Lorraine is involved in both the EDF wars against Solaren as well as Engellex. There has been no official declaration of war by the Platte Confederation, in which case any assault would constitute a very serious breach of international law. Carentania's Commissar for Foreign Affairs, Dusan Mejic, commented that "provided the reports are true" the government of the Platte Confederation must cease its attacks immediately and stand down "for there is no justified reason for the Confederation involve itself in the conflict in central Europe". According to Mejic, a possible attack by Platte Confederation on Lorraine at this point could constitute nothing but blatant imperialism and will draw severe opposition from the Workers' Republic.​

which has breached codes of conduct set forth in universally agreed upon international law. What further
concerns us is the obvious attempt at annexation by the above mentioned country.

Though our two countries may disagree on many occasions, at this particular moment Østfjord is
in agreement with the stance of Rijeka and we support it fully.

The Revolutionary Navy has announced that, to enforce the blockading of Solaren ports, it will begin to deploy sea mines, predominantly along Solarens eastern coastline. To avoid uninvolved parties being caught accidently within those minefields, its boundries will be clearly communicated to all of Europe and the Revolutionary Navy has assured the public that traffic within the Venetian Sea which is not bound for Solaren ports will remain unharassed by the mines. According to Navy officials, the deployment of mines will allow for ships to be withdrawn from blockading missions to protect traffic within the Long Sea.

Carentania prepares for refugees from Solaren. Current planning foresees several refugee camps across Carentania in close proximity to major cities. Refugees, especially children and their parents, are to be evacuated from war zones into secure Carentanian territory. Camps will feature education facilities to provide the population left intentionally under-educated by the Arch-reactionary regime in Torrence with important skills and access to information for the post-war country. Volunteers to provide education and medical support for refugees are sought at every Workers' Council.

The second of two planned Amphibious Assault Ships is due to make its maiden voyage tomorrow morning. The ship named "Maximo" after the famous city district in Rijeka will join its sister "Samobor", which is already participating in operations against Solaren. With two of its most modern ships in operation and involved in the liberation of Solaren, the war effort will see a definitive turn in favor of the Workers' Republic. Commissar for Defence, Matija Dracar will attend the ship leaving port for the first time tomorrow morning at 6 AM and security at the event will be tight. Once the "Maximo" and the "Samobor" are joined by the Arsenal class ship still in construction, Carentania will possess one of the most advanced Navies in the region.​
