Chancellor Calls on Wazistan unite after Resignation of President Najibullah

Chancellor Carlos Martinez called on Wazistan to “unite behind Mr. Massoud and bring about peace in the country”. The resignation of the president occurred after it was found Mr. Najibullah used his position in power for his own ends.

The Chancellor told us that the Islamic Affair Minister has “the opportunity to Wazistan and bring about peace.” The call by Fortaleza Real comes right as the Council of Nations begins a vote on Resolution 58/1, which calls on the Wazistani government to work with the international community to bring about peace to the country.

Whether the push by the Chancellor was motivated by the resolution or not is still to be seen. Many believe it was not and that Martinez is pushing for a solution to reduce the forces in the southern border, which were station five months ago to prevent any spill over. Many people within the southern regions are not happy with this decision, and some would argue that the Democratic Party could lose some seats in the National Assembly if it continues to station the troops, even in the name of national security.

Chancellor Calls on Batavia and Shcherbatskaya to Find Peaceful Solution to Conflict

This morning Chancellor Martinez called on the governments of Batavia and Shcherbatskaya to work towards peace diplomatically. “The last thing we need” started the Chancellor, “is a war that could have tremendous effects on the geopolitics of Europe.”

The situation started after Shcherbatskaya launched a missile strike against a presumed terrorist in the Spa region of Batavia. By doing so, Shcherbatskaya violated resolutions passed by the Council of Nations that prohibited unilateral response to the Batavian situation. The situation escalated as nations throughout the world condemn the actions, with even some threatening with an ultimatum. Batavia quickly pronounced that a state of war existed between the countries. Within hours, the Security Council started an emergency session on the situation.

The Chancellor continued by stating that Frescania will work via the Council of Nations and with the international community to find a diplomatic solution to the conflict, and that “we hope both governments will come to the table and not allow the flames of war to expand.” The Chancellor has also stated two new representatives will be send to the Council of Nations to work along side Representative Daniel Martinez.

Editorial: What Frescania has to do with Wazistan.
By Marcos Perez

It was a blow to Chancellor Martinez's Government when Wazistan decide to not cooperate with the Council of Nations. The Chancellor obviously wanted Ijad to cooperate with the international community, after all, Fortaleza Real order its ambassador in the Council to co-sponsor Resolution 58/1. And yet, both the resolution failed and our southern neighbor refused to cooperate.

So what will be the Chancellor's next move? International pressure seem to not be working, and international isolation will be hard to do after an Oikawan submarine made a stop in the country. Not only this, but the Council of Nations is focusing in Batavia and with elections coming up, the Council could take steps to not infuriate Ijad.

Whatever the Chancellor decides to do, it should make sure to pressure Wazistan's government to bring about real reforms. To do this they must end the persecution that has been occurring and all sides should come to the table and talk about solutions. The Chancellor would do well to offer to mediate such talks and even offer solutions. But this is of course the optimistic view.

A more realistic view is this: Wazistan continues to break apart and civil war finally erupts. The government will find itself fighting multiple sides and would not be able to security the vast border Wazistan has with all its' neighbors. This will cause the conflict to spread to the neighbors, which includes Frescania. What should the Chancellor do? One thing should be to militarize the border and make sure no violence spills over.

But what could be done if Wazistan does go down that path? The options are limited, and one obviously stands out: A peacekeeping force mandated by the Council of Nations. If Ijad cannot solve the problems and allows civil war, the Council will have to take all necessary measurements so that no one of Wazistan's neighbors suffer if the violence spill over. The Council could instruct volunteer member states to position peacekeeping troops in important locations or in the border areas so that violence does not spill over. If this happens, Frescania should volunteer and put troops in Wazistan with other members of the Council of Nations to preserve the peace.

Wazistan is in a crossroad and it has to decide between two choices: bring peace and cooperate with the international community or if it will go ahead and continue its' warfare and bring about instability for the region. The Chancellor would do well to start talking with neighboring states such has Levant States, Hajr and Radilo to start working on a possible breakdown of the Islamic Republic.

Religious Leaders Blast Government

This morning a group of Catholic leaders blast the Government due to the responds issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the Papal States regarding the situation in Oltremare. The catholic leadership stated that the Government's reaction to the Pope was “extremely rude. How can a catholic country blast the leader of the holy and only church?”

The reaction comes after an attempt terrorist attack failed against the Oltremarian king. The said state has had troubles with its catholics for centuries and it acquired information the terrorist was from Belmont and a catholic. Oltremare quickly condemn both catholicism and Belmont. Countries throughout Europe condemn the attack, but the Papal States adviced the Oltremarian king to start pushing for change if it wants to maintain the peace. While the Ministry of Foreign Affairs sided with the Papacy in condemning the attack, it quickly pointed out to the last message and condemn it, stating that oppression would follow if the government in Oltremare when forward with pushed reforms.

The catholic leaders in Frescania have been enraged by the respond. The vast majority of the population in the country is catholic and the catholic leaders have asked on the people to “bring down the Chancellor's government after their attack to God's representative on this planet”. The also issued an apology to the Pope on behalf of the Frescanian Catholic leadership, stating that they “do not support the reactions made by the Chancellor's Government and heartily approve of the Pope's wise words.”

However, Secretary of Foreign Affairs Julio Valdez has supported the actions made by his Ministry. He argues that while the majority of Frescanians are catholics, “the Constitution and not the Church, is the highest law of this country.” The Secretary is referring to Section 6 in Article 1 of the Constitution, which states “The Federal Union will uphold a strict separation of church and state. All government officials will swear their respective oaths to this Constitution in the presence of the Supreme Judge of the federal or state level.” This extreme secularism has been seen in Frescania's republicanism since 1845, when the Monarchy was overthrown and the church lost any political power it had over the government.

When asked if the Government would apologize to the Papacy, Mr. Valdez said that “the Government will not apologize for an action that it deemed necessary. In no way did our comment harm the Papal States or anyone in particular.”

Secretary of the Holy Office

His Holiness remebers the loyality towards His office by the Frescanian Catholics. In this case, this loyality is appreciated, but must be reflected upon. The Chancellor has misinterpreted the words of His Holiness. When he referred to change, he meant change in how the different groups, be it religious, be it political, be it ethnical, are treating each other with mutual hate and disrespect. His Holiness thinks the Oltremaren political establishment has an important role to play in changing the situation for the better.

His Holiness wants to ask the Catholic community in Frescania to not use this misunderstanding for political purposes, as we are sure the Chancellor wil straighten the situation.

We ask the Catholics in Frescania to judge the government on the whole of achievements or propositions and not on a single fact. How the government has dealt with poverty, equal wealthfare, moral issues as abortion and ethanasia; those problems shock entire societies and lives and must be the base of a range of questions a Catholic has to raise before voting.

Elections in Francisca this Friday could see rise in Parti National Français.

Elections in Francisca will be held this Friday, with both seats in the Commonwealth Assembly and Governor position open. Both the Democratic and Socialist Worker's Parties are expected to dominate the Franciscan Assembly, yet the National French Party – Party national Français is projected to gain seats in the Assembly.

The NFP is well known for their advocation for a Franciscan independent state. The party was created in 1860, just 15 years after the Republic was formed. The party was a reaction to the then Terrastanian dominated Parliament. The Party was very popular within the former Franciscan Kingdom, which composed the current provinces of Francisca, Nord Pays, Franmandie. After the formation of the Republic, many started speaking French once more, but the Spanish dominated Parliament began to promote Hispanismo through the region. With the elections of 1862, the Franciscans gave the NFP five seats in the national Parliament, thus pushing the Government to push for equality. Since then, the NFP has been losing support, with the Government actively promoting the two languages of the Republic – Spanish and French – throughout the country's educational system.

This elections will be the first that could see the NFP gain seats since 1990, when they lost their last seat due to the incredible economic boom under the rule of the Socialist Party. Right now, the province has seen a downturn in the economy and many within Francisca are blaming the Democratic Leadership in the Commonwealth Assembly.

Many believe the party will at least get 3 seats, prompting the Democrats and Socialists to a possible “union” to make sure radicals are taken out of the province. But even if elected, many believe the majority of Franciscans don't favor independence. The Socialists are expected to gain the majority of the Assembly's seats, while the Governorship is up for grab as of now.

Frescania sides with Levant decision in the Security Council

As words and details started to come out of the veto by the Levant States against Resolution 5 of the Security Council, the Government was quick to side with its AGE ally. The resolution, put forward by the Oikawan Empire, called for peacekeeping forces from Montelimar, Bashiristan, Kokuryuko and Kyzyl, with the last three not being members of the Council of Nations and also not being recognized by both Antioch and Fortaleza Real.

Chancellor Martinez condemn the actions by the Oikawan Empire, stating that this was an obvious “plot to create a new vassal out Batavia and expand Oikawan influenced into northern Europe.” The Chancellor also applauded the decision by Antioch to veto any resolutions that have to do between Oikawa and Batavia, stating that this will allow for “neutrality in the mission” by making sure only members of the Council of Nations were allowed to send troops to Batavia. Shortly after, a resolution was put forward by Antioch, but was quickly vetoed by the Oikawan delegation.

The Chancellor's words come after similar statements have been made by Frescania's fellow AGE ally Austurland. This is seem by many experts to be the first time in months that AGE has done anything together. The Government obviously hopes this continues to be the case.

Editorial: AGE and Frescania: A Working Relationship

By Fernando Gutierrez

It is one of the first things that one talks about when discussing Frescanian international relations: the Alliance for a Greater Europe, commonly known as AGE. Many Frescanians always add AGE into any discussion of Frescania's foreign policy, and many believe that this is righteously so.

Since 1948, the alliance has giving Fortaleza Real a way to maintain a voice within the international community without losing its independence – a luxury after the Great War and the Oikawan lead League of Free States (LFS). Frescania's foreign policy since 1948 has revolve around keeping the Cold War policies in place so that a balance between AGE and LFS can be maintained.

There are those that argue Frescania should not have joined AGE and should have instead signed agreements with multiple powers, including the Levant States and Oikawan Empire. They state that having multilateral agreements would have protected the country better because if one country let go of the commitment, then another was ready to help Frescania.

But this is not how international politics work. Frescania had to make a choice in 1948 as to whether to remain free or become a vassal of the LFS. By joining AGE, the country not only remained democratic, but also had the ability to keep its voice in the international community. For these and many other reasons, Fortaleza Real did a good thing yesterday by siding with the Levants on the issue of the security council, and the Government should make sure our policy of maintaining good relations with the members of the alliance is continued.

Protests against recent Defense Bill

This afternoon, hundreds of anti war and left leaning people protested outside Parliament and the National Assembly voted to fund the increase of more defense equipments throughout the country. The protesters called on the Assembly to revoke the bill and urge the president to not sign it.

The Government has argued that the Wazistan situation is the main reason for the increase in the budget of homeland defense. Chancellor Martinez told the Assembly that Ijad had “refused to cooperate with the international community and now they have open a Pandora's box. We cannot wait until their terror strike our nation.” The bill authorizes the construction of new defense sites throughout the country , specially the border with Wazistan and coast regions. The bill also calls on the Ministry of Defense to take all necessary steps to increase the armed forces' readiness in case the Wazistani state falls apart and chaos spreads across Himyar.

The protesters are asking the Government to re consider the bill. They stated that this is a plot by the state to destroyed their rights. “ We cannot allow the government to oppress us. They say it is because of Wazistan's situation, but the reality is that they want to make Frescania a puppet of the corporations.” said Teresa Olmaz, one of the many people protesting outside Parliament. They are also petitioning President Gutierrez to not sign the bill, calling on him to do the best for Frescania and not his party.

The Government will not easily give up. This is the second increase in the defense budget within the same Chancellor, and many believe that Chancellor Martinez wants to give Frescania more responsibility within AGE while at the same time maintaining a well trained and developed armed forces, specially the navy, which had the largest increase out of the three branches in the last defense budget.

President signs Defense Bill

A few hours ago, President Gutierrez signed the Defense Bill of 2010. The bill, which authorizes the construction of new defense sites throughout the country , specially the border with Wazistan and coast regions, has been criticized by many as a bill that would lead to oppression of the people. The president told reporters that he understood the concerns by the protesters, but that “my main job is to secure Frescania. The situation in Wazistan is heating up more and more, specially after the killing of the Vice President.”

The bill has seen support by all parties in the National Assembly. Those parties with no sets in the the Assembly, specially the Communist Party of Frescania, has denounced the bill, calling it an “imperialist” bill that will be used to “slaved the people to the capitalist lords of the country.”

The Ministry of Defense has already responded to the new bill, stating that it will allow the Ministry “to defense all sectors of Frescanian society and territory from any threats.” For their part, the Government has published a communique stating they are pleased with the decision of the president, and saying that with the new bill, “Frescania will be more secured.”

The opposition against the bill have stated they will not surrender, calling on people to vote against those members of parliament that voted in favor of the bill.

Editorial: A Slap to all Faithful Frescanians

By Daniel Tornelas

It is a sad day for all faithful Frescanians. On this day, our Pope has decided that true catholics would not be loved, and instead orthodox catholics would gain favors with the only church.

What am I talking about? Today are the elections for the seats of the Security Council. Frescania is one of these country, together with Talemantros, Vangala, Hajr and others. Reports have come out that the true and only Church has casted its votes, and one of these when to Anbat.

There is nothing wrong with our Anbanite brothers, but the Pope has decided to put orthodoxy in favor of its own religion. This madness makes all of us sad, as we expected his grace to vote for catholic countries, or even Frescania itself. But the Pope has decided that heresy is more important than the true and only religion.

We will not forget this insult by our highest bishop. The Frescanian branch of Catholicism should consider leaving the Pope run church as it has shown that it does not put its faith before politics. It is obvious the Papal States has decided reconciliation between orthodox and catholics is better than pushing forward the teachings of the catholic faith.

May God guide our religious leaders on seeing the correct path, which should lead towards separation with the Pope.
