I think its hardly surprising in a place called NS-Europe that the area most clearly modeled after RL Europe is the most popular. Most people (probably) are here to RP European-esque states, and most of the Himyar and "Americas" area doesn't have much identity besides former colonies that grew up and still trade and are mostly interacting with Europe. Before anyone jumps on me obviously there are exceptions to this. I'm not sure theres any map-esque fix to that other than simply expanding Europe. Though reducing land locked states certainly couldn't hurt, and may yet prove beneficial. Maybe I am just being a negative nancy.

Another possibility might be an expanded "America's"/Columbia with true west and east coasts (as opposed to being mostly one nation thick) as opposed to the larger Himyar.

Alas, even our parallel universe is a white man's world.

We ought to also have a list of minimally-realistic template countries, I think this wouldn't be a bad idea. For example, let's say - perish the thought - Warre ceased to RP here. We could freeze his spot pending the arrival of a country that was willing to RP a Celtic nation with Warre's history (and perhaps the alternative/poetic/historic name Warre or formerly prominent region called Warre or something) and they could take over that spot with minimum disruption to our universe.

I think the idea should be one in which instead of expanding the "Eurasia" continent, we need to make Himyar more attractive, so may i offer this simple fix.

As you see that no existing map spots are change except maybe end up getting some beachfront property.

I can't say I agree with this. Yes it is nice to have a neat, finished, jointly produced history and it is fustrating when a player leaves and ruins it all. However, wiki articles can be edited and references in RP quickly fade into obscurity as new posts push them further and further back.

Although not based in Himyar, I quite like this proposal.

*Himyar Map Proposal*

Being based in Himyar, regardless of what comes from this discussion, I heartily support this aesthetic change. It'll affect my proposed history as a Wazi-client state, prompting me to go with something else, but considering everything about my country is rather vague, that's not a big deal for me.

Like the map idea.

I also support merging Breotonia and Helena. It's odd having those two similarly sized island right next to each other where they are. Kind of clogs the sea.

Gunn's idea is rather controversial and I tend to agree with Perk.

I like it too, though Umbazi could be divided up into two or three new mapspots

Also, I'm fine with Breotonia and Helena being merged as long as the two of them are also fine with it. I'd also personally agree that Umbazi needs to be divvied up (unless it's cool if I move to that mapspot, in which case SCREW THAT. XP). Finally, I'm not entirely sure if I support Gunn's idea. We could certainly present it as an option, but nothing more.

I for one do not feel that will help. I believe the problem isn't in the fact there isn't enough beach front property. If that were the problem the coasts would be crowded in the south as well. If this were the problem the landlocked locations in the north would be empty.

I also tend to feel that players are a bit too fragile themselves in not being willing to slightly altar their histories for a map fix, yet are quite willing to change their histories of new players are added or countries change. One quick fix I think could fix a lot of our problems and I don't think it would altar our histories poorly, but if anything further enrich our histories by allowing for more nations to set up shop in the north.

That said, I think that Himyar should not be altered in that manner. It destroys what Himyar is. It does not enrich Himyar, it changes it entirely and does not help our problem.

I agree w/ Suionia at least in the sense that the problem is people don't want to be further from the "center of the action" in Northern Europe, rather than water front property per se. Though having countries WITH water way does at least give them a way to more easily trade and interact with Europe proper.

And what is Himyar? Is this what you want is kept as?

Himyar is basically a wasteland of nothing. I might compare them to a fallout game, but with more oil. —that and people actually want to play fallout.

Not to be tautological but for the most part what makes Himyar an inactive wasteland is the fact that its an inactive wasteland (and I'm certainly guilty here too). If there was a core group of 4 or 5 active countries in the region it would be much easier to keep people involved. Right now its basically RPing with yourself, which while like masturbation is fun for awhile, but its ultimately more fun with a partner.

I think Khalistan's solution solves problems, it opens up half of Himyar to central Europe and creates an area where more interaction can take place and best of all it impacts the fewest number of existing players.

No, I want Himyar reduced in size. Not changed in personality. What you guys are figuratively doing is oh hey guys... let's extend the Persian Gulf to Afghanistan... yeah that'll make it cool... No, that changes the entire personality of the region. Landlocked exists for a reason. We didn't make the area copious in coastline because we wanted a place where nations could engage in landlocked battles.

We make this change our map starts to look as lulzy as some areas in the NSEurope Classic map which was a map designed so everyone and his dog could have a beach house.

I like Khal's new map idea. It looks alot more realistic and it also sort of adds a new continent towards the south of Boreas - sort of like South America, if you will. in my Cooperative Corner thread I was going to choose Umbazi as Akwesasne's new spot and the new water bed to the west of Umbazi makes it easier for English colonizers to reach the area. So all in all, it works for my RP, but then again we all have to be in agreement for this change.

I'm sorry to say that I'm rather against bring merged with any other body. Some might remember that this was the case of the island twice and both times I asked that it be made so that I was the only person on the island. The matter is simply that I don't know how well I can work out my naval history which, let's face it, is most of my history if ICly I had a neighbor (AKA a threat) to deal with. For balance purposes I've given myself one of the smallest land forces in the game which made perfect IC sense as I didn't need it. In short the hassle is to great and I'm go to exercise my right to disagree. Sorry for being obstructionist.

I also don't know how I feel about any drastic restructuring of the north. I wouldn't discount the idea though until I saw a proposal.

This seems to be the consensus. I'll put something out in less than a week, and hopefully others will also put something out there for comparison's sake.

Sorry I haven't been about, I will be returning more permanently from now on. Just been fighting a by-election.

I'm happy to help out if I can at all.

I feel the same way. Like I said, I like Khal's updated look for the map. But if you guys find room up north, then I say power to you.
