The claims made by the Carentanian propaganda are completely false. No Talemantine forces are currently operating near or even close to any Carentanian forces. Not even an accidental firing could be possible concerning the current placement of troops. This continues to prove that the worker's regime in Rijeka to be one of lies and false propaganda. The Talemantine Empire remains committed to the mission entrusted to it and Fulanistan by the Council of Nations Security Council.

The lack of concern for the civilian population and the readily accepted death of thousands of innocents for the sole reason of forcing a political change - in a situation that was rapidly moving towards a closure with the result of peace - is deplorable.

Commissariate for Foreign Affairs

We could not agree with the Oikawan government more. The Talemantine attack on Jurzan is truly deplorable and the support of the Council of Nations for this act of aggression shows a lack of concern for the basic human rights of the Jurzani population.

Hello and welcome to CPB quick news.

Carentanias Commissariate for Foreign Affairs rejects criticism coming from the government of North Ratomkira, assaulting the decision of not granting full membership in the Revolutionary Defense Treaty Organization to the revolutionary government. The Commissariate released a press statement, insisting that the decision for observer membership was made in complete agreement with the other members of the alliance and that nations like Vangala were supportive of a careful approach to integration of the young revolutionary state into the socialist community due to the volatile situation of the east.

With the Himyarite Freedom Alliance falling apart mere weeks after its foundation, pressure is rising on the Talemantine Empire to withdraw from its imperial ambitions in the Jurzan. Even the Council of Nations is considering a change of its earlier course, which was supportive of the Talemantine invasion, and most states in Himyar have recognized the Jurzan. However, experts expect Oikawa to block any attempts within the Council of Nations at forcing the Talemantines to end the conflict peacefully.

People in the city of Sisak have gathered today to honor those who helped in the emergency rescue operations directly after the attacks by the former Akhaltsikhen army on the city in the wake of the Jurzani revolution. Confusion amongst the higher ranks of the racist regime in Akhaltsikhe had back then led to the devastating bombing of Carentanias third largest city which caused the death of several hundred citizens. The Workers Councils of Sisak rewarded those who helped to save the lives of those affected by the bombing with a medal created specifically for those heroes, many of them paramedics of the Workers' Watch Ambulance Services.

LE MINISTÈRE DES AFFAIRES ÉTRANGÈRES

4th September, 2010

News has reached my office that the Carentanian government wishes to keep the lines of communication open and is willing to discuss the matters in question. I must state that this offer to hold talks has greatly intrigued me and am interested in pursuing the matter throughly with my Carentanian and Vangalan counterparts.

Though before hand, I request that the host of said talks submit an itinerary of items to be discussed, that would be greatly appreciated.

Hello and welcome to CPB quick news.

In a joint press conference, the Commissariate for Foreign Affairs and the Commissariate for Economic Planning announced their intention to construct a modern medical school and associated university hospital in Vangala. "We have created all necessary preconditions for this endeavour from the Carentanian side," the Commissars stated "including the support from the Workers' Organizations that would be involved in the construction as well as the Carentanian Medical Association."
The hospital will provide room and equipment for a total of 150 graduates in different medical professions each year, ranging from doctors to nurses, medical assistants and paramedics. Construction is to begin once the Vangalan authorities have granted all necessary concessions and chosen a site for the hospitals location.

With thousands fleeing from Talemantine aggression in the Jurzan, Carentania has granted the country a promise to rebuild all homes destroyed in the war. "No one will be forced to live homeless due to the destructions brought upon them," a secretary of the Commissariate for Foreign Affairs said. Many Jurzani of both Uroduah and Georgian descent have already fled the country, being welcome into Carentanian refugee programmes and housed as guests of Carentanian families throughout the country. "Even though this cultural exchange allows us a to learn a lot from each other," a spokesperson of a Jurzani refugee programme commented "the reason the Jurzani people are here in Carentania could not be sadder and we hope that they can return safely as soon as possible."

The reconstruction in the Vrbas Kraj meanwhile has already begun. Since the Jurzan denounced the Carentanian-Talemantine peace treaty of 1929 as illegal, the Carentanians have worked tirelessly to reintegrate the Vrbas Kraj into the Workers' Republic. Mines and farms as well as the few factories of the overall rural state have been collectivized with only minor problems, but the integration of the service sector into their respective Carentanian WO's may prove more complicated as it threatens to fundamentally change the life of many shopowners and small businesses. Change in this sector, it seems, will be pursued at a slower pace by the Commissariate for Economic Planning and full integration of the Vrbas Kraj may take a while.

Deliver to the Commissar of Foreign Affairs

We would like to express our concerns for the entrepreneurs and capitalists living within the Vrbas Kraj and while we recognize the claim of Carentania over the Vrbas Kraj as legitimate, we ask that your government realize the residents of the Vrbas Kraj, those who have been born in and have worked the land, have lived a life quite differently from that of Carentania.

We ask that those who have lost their businesses are suitably compensated for their losses, and that the government work with the locals to accomplish suitable compromises and understandings. We ask that should any resident of the Vrbas Kraj seek emigration be permitted to do so.

However, as the sovereign power of the Vrbas Kraj, it is your nations uncontested right and duty to govern the land as best seen fit. We only ask that you rule justly and fairly for the people who reside there.

Carentania's contribution to the development and growth of the People's Republic of Vangala is a prime example of solidarity between revolutionary nations and shall not be forgotten by the Vangalan people.

Opinion: Peace in the Jurzan

Following weeks of tension and short, intense battles between Jurzani and Carentanian forces on the one side and the Talemantines on the other, the forces of the Talemantine Empire have withdrawn from the Jurzan, de facto abandoning its campaign for reinstallation of the apartheid regime. This marks the end of the conflict in northern Himyar and a return to peace for all involved parties.

The news were cherished by Carentanian citizens, which had spent the last weeks in constant fear that the period of over half a century of peace which Carentania had enjoyed and which had brought it considerable wealth, may come to a forceful end. Celebrations occured throughout the nation following the announcement of peace by the Commissars Assembly. The largest crowd gathered in Rijeka's Maximo Park, where more than fifty thousand people expressed their joy over the victory of the allied forces which will hopefully mark the beginning of yet another long period of peace and prosperity for the Workers' Republic.

Carentania gains not only a return to peace through the retreat of the Talemantine forces. Its involvement in the defense of the Jurzani revolution has gained the Carentanian nation the long lost territories of the Vrbas Kraj, which had been stolen by the Talemantines in the lates 1920's and been occupied by Akhaltsikhe a decade later. Furthermore many chairmen and -women of Carentanian WO's have expressed their hope for economic partnership with the Jurzan, which may gain Carentania access to desperately needed ressources, including petrol, copper, coal. And finally, Carentania has managed to improve its relations with many states opposed to the Talemantine invasion of the Jurzan, such as its neighbour Hajr and the once dogmatically anti-communist nation of Belmont.

But while Carentania has managed to improve its position in Europe through the conflict it never intended to fight, the Jurzan faces a particular difficult position. Many Jurzani people have become homeless in the course of the conflict and the economy lies in ruins. "We sincerely hope that the Jurzani population sees the benefits of a socialist economy," Commissar for Foreign Affairs Dusan Mejic commented on the situation. "But regardless of that, we have promised the Jurzan to aid in the countries reconstruction and we will see to it that all Jurzani refugees have homes to return to."

Hello and welcome to CPB quick news.

Following an intense outburst of social unrest in the state of Wiese, Wieser police arrested several people on charges of murder after three employees trapped in a burning bank building died. The deaths have come at a fortunate time for the Wieser government, which blames left-wing rioters for causing them. Banks are a popular target for unrest in capitalist states, as they symbolize the massive concentration of wealth within a few, selected corporate hands. Observers throughout the world expect a harsh conviction of those arrested, despite the scarce evidence. Reports about a gross violation of fire protection requirements by the Bank's management have been ignored within Wieser mainstream media.

Carentanian Commissars have expressed their worries about growing influence of the League of Free States in Himyar. According to the Carentanian Commissars Assembly, Oikawa in particular is using regional tension to increase influence on weaker states in the region, trying to expand their power sphere into the southern continent. The Commissars have also put partial blame on certain SEEDTO members, who have caused "unnecessary conflict" and thus forced states like Umbazi to accept Oikawan approachment. Talemantros has also opened up to LFS influence, after former supporters of its imperialist agenda - namely the EDF - had to revise their policy in face of foreign and domestic criticism.

A shootout between Revolutionary Army forces and Mezhist terrorists in the Vrbas Kraj has led to the injury of two known Mezhist terrorists. The two men, part of a group of for of which the half managed to escape, was attacking a previously collectivized farming complex, causing severe damage to the collectively used machinery. Nearby Revolutionary Army units, still present in the Vrbas Kraj until reintegration of the province into the Workers' Republic has been completed, were swift to react to the attack, dispatching several armored vehicles. Both Mezhist terrorists will face a trial once the have recovered from their injuries.

Dear Sirs,

the High Council of the Doktrin sends its best regards to the people of Carentania and assures the Commissars Assembly of its peaceful and sincere intentions towards your nation.

It is the current state of information of the High Council, that there is a shared Slovenian heritage between our nations, a fact which is highly appreciated and the reason of this dispatch.

As you are may aware our nation is of mixed German and Slovenian ethnicity, a fortunate circumstance which is a fundamental pillar of our national identity and formed our society for centuries. Unfortunately due to the predominance of the German language in modern day Kranjskan politics and education, the Slovenian language and culture is losing ground within the common population.

In order to preserve our national heritage and strengthen the position of Slovenian culture in our nation, the High Council asks the Commissars Assembly of Carentania to consider a cultural exchange program between our nations, which could also lead to collaborations in other fields.

We look forward to hear from you soon and hope you can assist our nation

Yours Sincerely

Gerhard Kocuvan

Hello and welcome to CPB quick news.

The 183rd All-Workers Congress has begun today, coinceding with the start of the christmas holidays. While usually Carentanians tend to celebrate the holiday as a mostly secular holiday with friends or family, thousands of delegates today travelled to Rijeka where the debates of the first day focused entirely on finding the appropriate reaction towards Belmontien aggression. Critical voices of the Commissariate for Defence's decision to declare war on Belmont due to Carentanias obligations within the framework of the RDTO were rejected. A quick reaction was needed, the Congress ruled, even if it had just been days until the winter session of the All-Workers Congress. Furthermore, a large majority of the delegates supported decisive action against Belmont and the deployment of forces to Coronado. This means that, for the second time this year, Carentanian soldiers will fight for the liberty of a foreign country.

In the Jurzan, which had been liberated from a destructive war-campaign of the Talemantine Army just months ago, reconstruction efforts by the Workers' Republic have finally begun. Carentania has committed itself to rebuilding large parts of the Jurzani infrastructure, shaping a better future for the country which is aligning itself more and more with its northern neighbour. As Carentania is slowly rising to become Jurzans major trade partner, one of the central projects in the Jurzan is the construction of a major railway connecting the Jurzans biggest cities with the Carentanian metropolis of Sisak on the southern border. The railway line features both tracks for freight transportation as well as a high-speed rail which, according to the current plan, will be free of charge in its use for Jurzani citizens, bringing the idea of non-monetary economy into the heart of the Jurzan. Other projects supported by Carentanian engineers include a reconstruction of the energy-network of the country with plans for a joint programm to increase the use of renewable energies in both the Jurzan and Carentania, as well as programms to aid Jurzani agriculture, the rebuilding of homes and a vaccination campaign by the Carentanian medical association.

After another farm in the Vrbas Kraj was burned down last night, two suspects thought to be connected with the Mezhist movements were arrested today by Milita volunteers. The persons are said to have prided themselves with the actions in a local bar. Both suspects are 17 year old locals and it is believed that the terrorist acts were their first political crimes, with more committed Mezhist terrorists having recruited them. They will face a trial for their actions within the next weeks and it is believed that the local workers council will confirm their guilt, sentencing them to community work and attending a resocialisation programme, as they had not been involved with Mezhist violence before and no person had been harmed in the attack on the collectivized farm. While the terror campaign in the Vrbas Kraj continues, experts expect the strategic ressources of the Mezhist movement to run dry within the near future, as more and more succesful arrests are made. For long times, the Vrbas Kraj had been a major hideout for Mezhist terrorists, but with the Jurzani revolution and the return of the Vrbas Kraj into Carentanian possession, the situation for the Mezhist movement in the Vrbas Kraj was become difficult.

Opinion: Belmonts Military-Industrial Complex Proves Troublesome For The Country

Following the desastrous failure of the initial attacks of Belmont on Coronado, the country seems torn over their future foreign policy. Having categorically rejected any attempts at peace-negotiation before, Belmont has now announced its intention to attend talks and declared a ceasefire. Political analysts worldwide have expressed their surprise over the sudden withdrawal after Belmont had initially declared its intention to enforce a regime-change and labelled its belligerence a crusade on communism worldwide. The end of hostilities is, of course, welcomed by Coronado and its allies, but Carentanias government remains sceptical that the peace is lasting.

Behind the scenes of Belmonts foreign policy, several different groups seem to vie for influence and control within the country's government. That is, in itself, not a surprising revelation. It is within the nature of bourgeoise government that economical interests determine politics and capitalism itself is a contradictory and discordant system, wherein the interests of different capitalists may conflict with each other. However, as the ongoing conflict within Belmonts ruling class is directly affecting the future and fate of Carentania and its allies, it is worth to look at the two dominant factions and understand their motivations.

Centered around the heavy industry, the arms manufacturers, the car industry and shipbuilders is the military-industrial complex of Belmont. It was this faction which pushed for the attack on Coronado and their intention was purely imperialist. The attack was a rather classical case of market-driven expansionism, as the war itself, but also a possible conquest of Coronado, would have created new markets and driven sales of these industries. Ammunition, vehicles, weapons, ships and tanks and airplanes - they all would have risen in demand during a prolonged conflict, while the fall of a socialist government in Coronado would have opened up the countries ressources and consumption for Belmontien companies. Meanwhile, reactionary circles within the Belmontien military itself have close ties to this faction of Belmontien political society and were quick to take up on this chance to attack a political enemy and improve their own standing within the Belmontien society by means of warfare.

Directly opposed to these warplans was, from the start, Belmonts trade and commerce faction. Companies dependant on foreign trade routes, stock brokers and shipping companies themselves all had reasonable fear that a conflict with the socialist bloc would prove ruinous for their business. Located right between Coronado and Carentania lies the Long Sea, one of the worlds most important shipping routes. The socialist countries had at no point before utilized their strategic location to extort fees or blockade this lane to any nation, as they knew of the conflict this would bring about with capitalist nations worldwide. However, in case of a direct attack, the Long Sea would become inpassable for Belmontien ships and that was exactly what happened right after the attack from Belmont on Coronado. The longer the conflict sustained, the more losses the affected Belmontien companies would have to report while at the same time, their competitors in foreign countries could conduct their business relatively undisturbed. In the long term, only bankruptcy could come from such a situation for the Belmontien traders. It was this group, that forced an end to the conflict.

However, it would be folly to believe that, if the Commercial faction within Belmont wins this battle for influence, that Coronado would be safe. As long as Belmont remains a bourgeoise society, they see merit in conquering socialist countries. The internal need of capitalism to find new markets in order to sustain its own growth against the conflict of consumption versus profit could easily drive Belmont against its neighbour again one day. The fall of Coronado would be a bigger guarantuee to undisturbed shipping routes than the goodwill of the allies Carentania-Coronado. Both facts mean that there is only one guarantuee for a free Coronado: a strong defense.

Hello and welcome to CPB quick news.

Following a failed attempt at a terrorist attack in the Vrbas Kraj, firefights between militias and Mezhist terrorists leave three dead. All three are reported to be part of an anti-communist terrorist group active in the Vrbas Kraj. The Commissariate for Inner Security assured the public that the recent wave of terrorism in the Vrbas Kraj is a sign of the decay of Mezhism in the region, causing Mezhist terrorists to try and fight their declining influence in the region with ever more violent assaults that will ultimately lead to their defeat in the near future.

The deployment of Carentanian forces to Coronado continues uninterrupted, despite planned peace talks between Belmont and Coronado. According to the Commissar for Defence, the deployment is taken as a precautionary measure should the peace talks fail and Belmont resume hostilities.

Aid projects in the Jurzan a success so far, claims Commissariate for Foreign Affairs. Poverty, unemployment and homelessness in the country is declining, while education, medical care and public infrastructure is improving, thanks to both government sponsored programmes and several NGO's active in the region.

Commissariate for Defence presents plans for expansion of Navy forces

"With the liberation of the Jurzan, the strategical challenges for us have changed", those were the words of the Commissar for Defence in last december, when he presented his half-yearly report to the All-Workers Congress. Back then, Carentania had just succesfully defended its southern neighbour and the revolutionary movement within its borders against Talemantine aggression. In return, the Workers' Republic gained secure land borders, ending almost a century of an era in which Carentanias defense policy was dominated by the insecurity of its southern border. In those days, Carentania stood alone, bordered by hostile governments. Nowadays, it has allies throughout Europe, workable relations with its one neighbour, Hajr, and a close-knit friendship to its southern neighbour, Jurzan. These drastic changes in the geopolitical situation did not go unnoticed by the All-Workers Congress, who ordered the Commissariate for Defence to begin steps to reshape the Revolutionary Armed Forces for protection of Carentanian allies overseas.

The need for such a force came sooner than expected, when Belmont attacked Coronado. History moved faster than the Commissariate, which was still drawing up plans and gathering information so as to decide which changes need to be made to the Armed Forces and the defence strategy to achieve the goals outlined by the All-Workers Congress. It was pure luck that Belmont did not begin a decisive and concentrated offensive, that the Belmontien military wasted its element of surprise on a wholly inefficient strategic blunder. Combined arms, it seemed, was a foreign word to the Belmontien generals. The attack on Coronado should serve us as a warning, that changes need to be made and they need to be made quick. Carentania must redesign its Armed Forces to allow it to protect its allies in all of Europe, not just those it shares a border with like the Jurzan. Not just for the sake of our allies, but also for our own sake: Carentania grows more and more economically dependant upon other socialist countries. And we can not expect future enemies to make the same mistakes as Belmont.

Amidst this situation, the Commissariate for Defence finally presented to the public its plans for the Revolutionary Navy of Carentania. "While just the first part of a thorough reexamination of our national defences," the Commissar for Defence commented, "It is nevertheless the most important. The Navy will hold a crucial role in all our future operations."

Carentania seeks to redesign its Naval forces from a Brown to a Blue Water Navy, which means that, instead of being designed to protect its own coastline, the future Carentanian Navy will be able to engage in overseas operations and conduct missions far off from their home bases. While other countries have in the best achieved this goal with the construction of large carrier battle groups, Carentania seeks a different approach. "We believe large supercarriers to be too vulnerable with the advent of modern anti-ship missiles," military experts from the Commissariate explained during the press conference. "Instead, Carentania will construct a number of smaller amphibious assault ships and begin the formation of a marine infantry corps, so as to allow Carentania to quickly intervene in foreign ground battles." Other than that, the Navy will be centered around destroyer-groups capable of escorting both the amphibious assault ships as well as Carentanian supply lines.

However, there will be one exemption from this "small ships" approach and that one is quite notable. "We have, in cooperation with the Carentanian Industry, drawn up a first rough design for a modern 'Arsenal Ship', which will be constructed in the near future," the Commissar announced. Arsenal ships, thusfar, were theoretical speculations of a new ship type carrying as many missiles as possible into battle. The Arsenal ship will thus provide much needed, highly precise firepower in crucial situations, such as large naval battles or coastal bombardements. In difference to supercarriers, though, the Arsenal ship can leave the battlefield once having unleashed its deathly freight, while carriers need to remain until their planes have returned. "Furthermore," the technicians responsible for the first, rough design commented "arsenal ships can be built so they have a very low water line. In connection with modern stealth features, this makes an Arsenal ship difficult to engage before it manages to begin an assault of its own."

Thusfar, the plans of the Commissariate are just theoretical considerations. "We do hope to begin with the implemention of these plans as early as March, however," the Commissar said.

Hello and welcome to CPB quick news.

As tension mounts over Padanian claims on international waters, Carentania sends a strong message to its northern neighbour. Several military vessels of the Revolutionary Navy have been spotted in the area and patrol flights by Carentanian fighters seem to have increased as well. "We do not believe the Padanian claims to have any legitimate base," the Carentanian Commissariate for Foreign Affairs commented on the issue and furthermore warned Padania that "acts of piracy as committed against the Judean nation will provoke an appropriate response by Carentania should they target the Workers' Republic or its allies."

The University Hospital of Cazma conducted an emergency exercise earlier today in cooperation with the Workers' Watch, responsible for the emergency services in Carentanias biggest city, as well as several units of the Revolutionary Army. Several hundred paramedics as well as hospital staff and soldiers were facing a hypothetical scenario in which a part of the city was contaminated with dangerous airborne chemicals. According to hospital sources, the exercise was an overall success, but also uncovered several smaller problems the participating organizations will adress within the next days.

Another terrorist attack in the Vrbas Kraj was thwarted, when militias found a hideout of Mezhist militants. Stockpiles of ammunition and explosives were seized by the militias and were handed over to an investigation commission, which try to analyze their origins and find possible evidence about the identity of those who built the depot. Those responsible could not be caught thusfar, but it is believed this strike has further weakened the Mezhist threat in Carentanias just recently returned southern province.

The OCN is very much interested in the concept of the 'Arsenal Ship' and wishes to lend its own shipbuilding knowledge and experience to such a project.

Carentanian military posturing strongly threatens to escalate the situation in an already unstable region. It is the view of the Confederal government that the main intent of the Carentanian junta is the utilization of geopolitical tensions to elevate its own global position, a highly irresponsible course of action indeed.

Hello and welcome to CPB quick news.

The Carentanian hitball season started today, with a match between the Koper Hounds and the Rijeka Steelworkers as opener for this years round of Carentanias favourite past-time. Hitball, popular throughout the Workers' Republic since the beginning of the 20th century, is literally unknown in the rest of Europe, which has served only the instill even more pride for this unique game in the hearts of its fans.

Controversy in the city of Paki mounts over an alternative housing project, which has been accused of violating the terms of use laid out when the building was granted to a group by the local workers' council. According to the contract, the group, in order to allow it to realize its goals of collective and shared living under the same roof, is granted the right to decide whether or not a person is allowed to occupy an apartement in the building. However, the terms also state that rejections can not be made arbitrarily and that the group must seek to fully use the available space by housing a set number of 21 people. This, neighbours claim, has not been done and instead the available space was used by the group as additional private rooms. A session of the local workers' council is to decide on the matter.

Regular railway traffic between Sisak and Jurzani city of Sharjah to begin earlier tomorrow. The short track between Jurzans capital and Carentanias third largest city is the first part of a Carentanian-backed high-speed line that will connect all major Jurzani cities and help promote exchange of people and ideas within the Jurzan and beyond its borders. Use of the railway is to be free of charge for both Carentanian and Jurzani citizens, as it is operated by the Carentanian National Rail WO. This generous gift to the Jurzani people is however also seen by critics as a form of advertising the benefits of non-monetary economy to the Jurzani people.

Hello and welcome to CPB quick news.

Following the unilateral claiming of a 50 nautical miles contiguous zone by the nation of Padania, Carentania has likewise declared its intention to enforce such an expansion of territorial waters "until Padania returns to a reasonable distance". The Commissariate for Foreign Affairs has commented on the issue by stating that Padanias actions, especially the seizing of neutral ships in the Long Sea, constitute aggressive acts and that Carentania is taking precautions to protects its own maritime traffic in the region. It has furthermore called upon the European community to take all necessary actions to prevent Padania from destabilizing the region even further.

Carentanian Commissariate for Defence invites Coronadoan engineers to participate in the designing of new military vessels, but rejects the participation of any other nation. Coronado, as close ally and neighbour, must be involved in any defensive strategy for the Long Sea, including the construction of a modern and capable fleet, the Commissar noted. Rumours that other states, namely Judea, have expressed interest in involvement, have been neither confirmed nor denied. All the Commissar had to say about these rumours was, that Carentania is fully capable of developing and constructing modern ships on its own and that involvement of other states can only happen on the base of strategical alliances and a close friendship.

Protests gathered in front of the Vangalan embassy in Rijeka today after reports about renewed human rights abuses by the Vanguardist government of Vangala. Several dissidents had been arrested in night-time raids in Vangala and suspicion is that these arrests have been made in order to prevent protests during a Vangala-hosted summit on the future of the council of nations. Protestors in Rijeka called upon the Workers' Republic to sever its ties with Vangala, until the human rights situation in the nation finally improves and Vangalan actions are proving problematic for the Carentanian-Vangalan alliances. Sources within the Commissariate for Foreign Affairs stated that, "unless there is a sign of goodwill coming from Kilikia soon, we may need to cave in to public pressure from our own country and take actions." However, the Commissariate was not available for a public comment.
