If the establishment of a formal coalition government made up of the main factions fighting brings peace to Crotobaltislavonua, then the Free State will welcome it.

We also urge whoever is put in charge of foreign policy and diplomacy to continue the path of regional reconciliation that Raoul Farrago had committed himself to until his untimely demise.

Also we welcome all initiatives bringing peace to Crotobaltislavonia, and we also want to point at the importance of the reconciliation going on between Crotobaltislavonia and its neighbours.

An elegant middle-aged woman appears standing standing in front of the wall screen. She has close cropped dark hair and wears a blue-gray dress, sleeveless and full-length. The woman gives the camera a warm smile. Behind her on the wall screen is a live shot of government officials standing around and shouting at each other.

"I'm Maria Garva and this is CBS Noon Roundup. Our top story this midday, sources within the governing coalition indicate the National Assembly could be restored as soon as next month. But there are still details to be hashed out. The newly formed Marxist-Leninovist Alliance, composed of the Otpor League and Farragoists, is demanding fifty percent of the Assembly's seats while the Committee for a Free Crotobaltislavonia will only agree to free and fair elections for the entire Assembly. The sources also indicate Banja Luka's Jewish Council has asked for guaranteed representation in the Assembly.

"The coalition is also discussing possible locations to house the Assembly. The official seat of the legislature, the White House, has still not be repaired since the violent uprising that deposed Premier Boris Pochenko last year. A possible location mentioned is the Stari dvor which has been unoccupied for decades but remains upkept by the State Cultural Administration."

Behind Maria, the big screen changes to footage of army troops preparing their two hundred and three milimeter artillery piece for towing. Maria turns sideways and walks to the side of the screen to allow an unobstructed view of the large howitzer.

"Also making news today, citing a report from the Coast Guard saying there have been no violations of Crotobaltislavonian territorial waters in the Northern Sea, the Defense Ministry has ordered the Army to withdraw it's artillery from the northern coast. The withdrawal is expected to be complete by the end of the week.

"And finally, this morning President Valerian Fyodorov had breakfast with Orthodox Metropolitan Damjan Milivoj Davidovic at the Presidential Palace. There is no official word on what was discussed, but observers believe the President may have asked the Metropolitan to tone down his anti-Catholic rhetoric. Several clashes between Orthodox and Twentish Catholics have been reported in the west recently after the Metropolitan began demanding that all religions must accept the temporal supremacy of the state."

Maria smiles. "More news on the way!"

We welcome the demilitarisation of Lake Elbe by Crotobaltislavonian forces and will review our own defensive presence accordingly.

Also we welcome the demilitarisation of the area around Lake Elbe by Crotobaltislavonian troops. This move will definitely lower the tensions in the region.

Once again the Marxist-Leninovists government in Banja Luka shows itself to be more mature and responsible then its provocative neighbours. We congratulate our Slavonian friends for their conduct in the face of conflict. Once again conflict seems to be avoided, but sadly recent history has shown us that this will only last until the next act of aggression by Amstov and their Trier-backers. Closing the borders and liquidating trade last year, the attempted coup in December and January, the seizing of Slavonian territorial waters in May and finally having high ranking military figures publicly state their plans to annihilate the Crotobaltislavonian navy should they chose to defend their sovereignty in June. All of this leaves us with little hope for a continued peace and lasting stability. We will remain vigilant until the next time Amstov decides to act incredibly irresponsible. Much to our own regret we know that conflicts or tensions such as this will never stop as long as the current warmongering elite holds sway over Trivodnia. We truly hope that in time the Trier Concordat will see this too and urge their allies to keep them from agitating in the future. They might even find the Kadikistani Union to be a more reliable partner and better spent investment.

Signed,

We welcome the scaling down of the military set up on the Lake Elbe and commend the authorities in Banja Luka for their move. We also welcome the reciprocation on the part of Trivodnia, all moves of good will and acts of friendship aimed at lowering the degree of hostility and diffusing the tensions in the region.

On the issue of the Kadikistani Union, we understand from the market that current investments into Kadikistan are subject to prohibitive risk management commissions from the underwriters. And few are the investors would venture into Kadikistan without insuring their risks.

We are certain that this can be optimized, should there be common will on all sides. And such optimisations will be to the benefit and betterment not only of Kadikistanis and Retalians, but of the world at large.

Relations and trade are always a two way street and Retalia is ready to reciprocate good will.

Reservior Killer Caught?
Two weeks after the Reservior Killer slaughtered fifteen men and women, there have been no further victims reported. Sources indicate the quiet period has prompted Banja Luka Police and the State Political Administration to review their records of recently detained and arrested suspects to see if the Killer has unknowingly been captured.

"Slavs Unite" Declared Security Threat
The The Slavs Unite movement was banned this morning. A spokeswoman said: "Crotobaltislavonia has it's own national identity. The State appreciates that some of it's people want to find their roots in the 'old country', but Crotobaltislavonia, all or in part, joining a Greater Krasnislavia will not happen. Allowing this movement to continue and gain steam would be irresponsible and potentially dangerous to national unity and state security." Immediately after the announcement, the Banja Luka offices of Slavs Unite were raided by SPA commandos.

Nazario Capitani Leaving CBS News
Long-time Chief National Security Correspondent Nazario Capitani will be leaving CBS News at the end of the month. When asked by his colleague Maria Gavras why he is leaving, Mister Capitani said only that recent overtures from an overseas news agency has made him curious about new opportunities. Goodbye Nazario. CBS News and your faithful watchers will miss you!

An elegant middle-aged woman appears standing in front of the wall screen. She has close cropped dark hair and wears a black sweater and trousers. The woman looks grim. Behind her on the wall screen is footage of infantry trudging along a muddy road while vehicles roar by. There is no indication of who the troops are or where they are going.

"I'm Maria Garva and this is CBS News Update's continuing coverage of the Retalian Sea Crisis. We go live to Iva Stefanovic who is standing by outside the H-3 airbase. Iva, give us an update, please."

The images changes to Iva, looking miserable to be back in the field. Behind her, the airbase is lit up brilliantly with flood lamps and other lighting. The main gate is blocked with sand bags, barbed wire, and machine guns.

"Maria, we're just outside the H-3 airbase. There is still no official word on if Kadikistan will be invited to the use the base in offensive operations against third parties. Civilian sources within H-3 have revealed the base is no longer fully stocked with Kadikistani weaponry and that any moves by Ivar will require new equipment to be staged here. An unmarked motorcade entered the base about ten minutes ago. We have not seen any aircraft depart yet. Maria?"

Back on Maria in the studio, "thank you, Iva. That was Iva Stefanovic standing by the H-3 airbase. Back here in Banja Luka, war jitters have hit the Presidential Palace. The Minister of Foreign Affairs Maximilian Jedreck was summoned by President Fyodorov. After an hour-long conference, the Palace announced the Foreign Minister will be dispatched to Kadikistan within a week for quote consultations unquote. Insiders believe Jedreck's mission will be to beg Ivar for guns and ammunition."

Maria steps to the side, allowing an unobstructed view of the wall screen showing police clashing with rioters in Red Square. "In other news, there was minor rioting in Banja Luka this evening in response to the government's announcement that the Marxist-Leninovist Alliance will receive fifty percent of the seats in the National Assembly. The rioting was confined to Red Square and adjacent streets. There is no word yet on casualties or damage to businesses."

Turning towards the camera, Maria smiles. "More news on the way. Stay with us."

An elegant middle-aged woman appears standing in front of the wall screen. She has close cropped dark hair and wears a red sweater and a black knee-length skirt. The woman appears determined. Behind her on the wall screen is a live feed of Iva Stefanovic.

"I'm Maria Garva and this is CBS News Update's continuing coverage of the European War Scare. We go live to Iva Stefanovic who is standing by at an Army barracks somewhere in Crotobaltislavonia. Iva, give us an update, please."

Iva is looking sharp in the tiger stripes of the Miltia. A red beret covers her newly shaved head. "Maria, as a result of my call-up, CBS News is being given unprecedented access to the massive military mobilization underway."

Iva turns to her left as the camera pans away to reveal a formation of militiamen and women being drilled by an Army sergeant major. "Maria, of course I cannot give you hard figures. But I'm told that every eligible man and woman has been called to serve in the coming fight. After being brought up to speed, these troops will depart for forward staging areas to wait for the go-code from high command."

The camera pans back to Iva holding an StG 44 assault rifle. "When these brave fighters leave here, each will be armed with a top of the line machine gun, like this one. The Militia units will augment regular Army units on the front lines of the coming fight. Traditionally, Crotobaltislavonia makes no differentiation between Army and Militia units on the battlefield. My comrades and I will be putting it on the line for the Motherland just like the regular soldiers. Maria?"

Back on Maria in the studio. On the screen behind her is a picture of the flags of Eiffelland and Trivodnia merged into one and splitting down the middle. "That was Iva Stefanovic, on her way to the front lines . . . From overseas, CBS News has learned there is already a growing rift between Trivodnia and the Trier Axis . . ."

An elegant middle-aged woman appears standing in front of the wall screen. She has close cropped dark hair and wears a feminine-cut feldgrau jacket, matching slacks, and black stiletto heels. The woman's fine features are in neutral today. Behind her on the wall screen is a live feed of Iva Stefanovic.

"I'm Maria Garva and this is CBS News Update's continuing coverage of Euro War 2018. We go live to Iva Stefanovic who is standing by at a forward position somewhere in . Iva, give us an update, please."

Iva is still in the tiger stripes of the Militia, though the uniform is looking like she's lived in it 24/7 for the last few days. Underneath her red beret, stubble is starting to show as her hair grows back. She is standing next to a dirt road in a forest clearing. "Maria, I am not allowed to give our exact position, but we are at our forward staging area. The last few days have been ones of intense exercises as Militia units integrate into Army formations."

Behind Iva, a platoon of late model T-34s rumble by and the reporter pauses for a moment. When the noise abates, she continues. "My comrades in the Militia and the Army are excited and confident. We are all ready go when the word comes down from high command. Maria?"

Maria in VO: "Iva, we've been hearing rumors of mass desertians. Are they true?"

Iva shakes her head and sweeps her hand forward to emphasize her answer. "Maria, absolutely not. Of course there are always going to be a few bad apples in the bunch: royalists, Pochenkoists, Yids, and the like. But large numbers of loyal Crotobaltislavoniaks fading away in the dark of night: not true!"

Just then, a volley of gunshots, fired in unison, is heard in the background.

"Maria?"

Maria in VO: "Iva, what about a timeline here? Is there any indication of when the fighting will begin?"

"I'm sorry, Maria, but nothing yet for the folks at home. Recon aircraft are overflying our borders with Trivodia, Elben, Gunnland, Bergenheim, and others, as high as they can go to keep out of air defense range. If the cameras are picking up anything, high command is keeping that information very close to the vest. Maria?"

Back on Maria in the studio. Behind her, the screen has changed to large map of Crotobaltislavonia with possible invasion routes into the country marked with red arrows. "That was Iva Stefanovic on the frontlines. Stay with us as we'll be discussing the danger to the homeland with a special guest, after this. This is CBS News Update."

CBS News Reporter MIA
As news of Crotobaltislavonia's devastating defeat is brought home by the soldiers who survived the killing fields, word has reached CBS News that correspondent Iva Stefanovic is missing in action. Iva, called up for service in the Militia and embedded with frontline units, is believed to have been among the first wave of armored units entered the Free State. At this time, there are no verifiable sightings of Iva after the assault force crossed into Trivodnia: the soldiers she would have been serving with are either dead, captured, or missing.

Red Square Filling Up
As news of Crotobaltislavonia's devastating defeat reaches the heartland, the young and old are travelling from around the country, under great danger of Trivodnian air attack, to protest in Banja Luka's Red Square. There are presently no official numbers of the citizens travelling to Banja Luka or already in Red Square. Security in the capital city is nonexistant and government buildings have been vandalized. Cities from around the country are reporting a similiar deterioration of police and security services. President Valerian Fyodorov has not been seen since fighting began and it is feared the Otpor government has quit the country.

The Free State of Trivodnia can assure demonstrators in Red Square, Banja Luka they will be safe from any military operations. We are responding solely to communist aggression and have no designs on Crotobaltislavonian territory.

We urge what is left of the Crotobaltislavonian government to come to the negotiating table and secure a long-lasting peace settlement that ensures no conflict breaks out between our two countries again.

A middle-aged woman appears standing in front of the dark wall screen. Her short, dark hair is pushed back by a black Alice band. She is a wearing a plain white t-shirt, blue jeans, and red sneakers. Today, the woman's face is badly made up and her mascara is running from recent tears.

"I'm Maria Garva and this is CBS News Update's continuing coverage of Crisis 2018. Our top story today, the Otpor government has fallen. Protesters stormed the Presidential Palace this morning and found only household staff and low-level aides still inside the edifice. The Palace was immediately occupied by protesters and a provisional government is being organized by whoever is on the scene. There is no word on the whereabouts of President Valerian Fyodorov or other officials of the Otpor government and it is suspected they have raided the treasury and fled the country.

"Protesters from around the Crotobaltislavonia continue to pour into Banja Luka. Old men and women with their grandchildren who already in the capital city are being joined by surviving members of the armed and security forces who are arriving directly from the frontlines. For now, the protests in Banja Luka, and other cities and towns around the country, are peaceful. Vandals have been caught and detained by vigilante groups. The groups are also providing police and social services to local citizens.

"On the frontlines, Trivodnia appears to be holding to its promise of a defensive war. There are no Yiddish troops on Crotobaltislavonian soil. I repeat, we are not being invaded by the Yids. The confirmed death toll of the war continues to climb and the number of dead, wounded, and missing is now estimated at over twenty thousand men and women. Civilian casualties are unknown at this time as emergency services have been disrupted in the east. For now, local security along the border with Trivodnia is being provided by Nekmet and other local paramilitaries.

Maria sighs and says without her usual gusto: "more news on the way."

Before the commercial, white text appears on a black screen:

Today Maria is out on the street today. She is wearing a blue helmet and a blue flak jacket in addition to the same clothes she wore yesterday. She and the cameraman are couched down behind a burned out car. Steady mortar fire can be heard in the background along with the occassional crack of sniper fire.

"Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to CBS News' continuing coverage of Crisis 2018. To sum up: it's civil war."

Cut to a montage of footage and images from the last twenty-four hours: dead bodies in the streets, civilians running away from explosions, soldiers blazing away with machine guns, a column of modern tanks crawling down a narrow street.

Back on Maria in the field: "today, Banja Luka is a battlefield. Yesterday afternoon, rebel Army units began mortar fire on the peaceful protesters in Red Square, killing and wounding dozens of men, women, and children. Today, the mortar attacks have been joined by snipers. There are rumors that the Army is bringing up artillery to take the killing to another level."

A CRACK is heard. Maria looks over her shoulder and several civilian fighters rush in and out of the picture. Looking back at the camera, she continues.

"Outside of Banja Luka, Otpor-aligned Army units have reportedly taken firm control over Sokolov District in the west, including the town of Chodov. Farragoists are said to be massing in the east, either for an attack on Banja Luka or to renew the invasion of Trivodnia."

There is an explosion nearby, sending the camera and it's operator toppling to the ground. As the camera lies on it's side, Maria can be seen running for new cover.

The Republic of Bergenheim wishes to extend a hand of mercy to the suffering people of Crotobaltislavonia. While our borders must remain closed, and we cannot take all of those who seek refuge and asylum, we do offer to make available the Band of the White Chalice and other NGO organisations, experienced in providing first-aid and crisis assistance. We also offer medical supplies, temporary shelter and rations to help those most desperately in need in our closest neighbour.

If permitted by the warring sides, we would also like to negotiate armistice zones, where civilians can be guaranteed safety from ongoing conflict, and allow for the evacuation of the larger cities.

Refugee Crisis Spiraling Into Humanitarian Disaster
With foreign troops pouring into Crotobaltislavonia, citizens are fleeing for their lives with the clothes on their backs, little food, and no shelter. Official numbers are unavailable, but it is estimated that over half of the population of Crotobaltislavonia is displaced, with many attemping to escape the conflict zone into Gunnland, Elben, Bergenheim, and Ruritania.

Citizens Conscripted Into Forced Labor Battalions
With enemy troops now on Crotobaltislavonian soil, the government had made the defense of Banja Luka their number one priority. With many thousands of Crotobaltislavonia's young men and women dead, wounded, or missing in Trivodnia, and thousands more still under arms, the government has conscripted the very young and the old into labor battalions to construct defense lines around the capital. The government reports the conscripts are being taken of while they work hard to defend their homes.

Commentary: Crotobaltislavonia's Future In Doubt
Word has reached the capital that Army units are carrying out a scorched-earth policy as they retreat in the face of a Burgundian onslaught. The ->WEST<- contains some of the motherland's most productive industrial areas and richest deposits of natural resources. Whatever our troops do not destroy will no doubt fall into enemy hands, perhaps forever. With every hour, the motherland's ability to recover from this ruinous war is diminished. That is if the motherland survives at all. There is now growing fear that Crotobaltislavonia will be partitioned as apart of a post-war settlement between the Great Powers.

"Good evening. I'm Maria Garva and this an official news update.

"A reminder: the Motherland is still under martial law and a dusk to dawn curfew is in effect.

"Rationing continues in all cities and towns. Remember, hoarding and black marketeering is punishable with the death sentence.

"The National Liberation Government announced today President Fyodorov has ended the suspension of the office of prime minister and appointed Yevheniy Musayev to the same.

"The National Liberation Government also announced that there are indications Burgogne's army is preparing for a withdrawal from the west.

"Finally, the National Liberation Government announced that the last gap in Banja Luka's outer defense shell has been filled, bringing the capital's impenetrable Ring of Steel to full completion.

"More news at the top of hour. This is KKEZ, 94.5, the Guiding Light."

A synthesized female voice begins speaking.
