The Grand Duchy wholeheartedly condemns cowardly attacks as well as the religious violence. We only hope that ultimately peaceful resolutions may be found. Those responsible for violence must be brought to swift justice within the confines of law.

"The Marxist-Leninovist Workers Party, the State of Kadikistan and the International Association of Marxist-Leninovist Parties hereby officially and wholeheartedly distances itself from the gauchist group known as the 'Islamic Socialistic Popular Liberation Front', abbreviated as ISLAM. We wish to stress that ISLAM is in no way connected to the International, nor the Internationalist Communist Party of Pelasgia and is hereby barred from membership of the International or any of its sponsored organizations. The sole representative of Marxist-Leninovist thought and action in Pelasgia is the DKKP under the chairmanship of Ioannis Bogiatzis. No other political force in the Himyari nation, be they social-capitalist such as SKEP and the PPP or otherwise politically manipulated such as ISLAM, has the right to carry the socialist name since their respective agenda's contain enough reactionary elements to deem them as counter-revolutionary sects. It is the task of true revolutionaries, such as the courageous and ever disciplined members of the DKKP, to persuade and politically educate the Pelasgian working class, whatever background they may have. Both the Pelasgian and the minority workers are natural allies in the struggle against capitalist exploitation and imperialist subjection. They should both stand behind one single banner, the banner of Marxist-Leninovism."

IMPERIAL FORCES RESTORE ORDER TO PHILISTÆA

Imperial units welcomed as liberators - What of the Holy City's future?
by Stergios Tivyraios, Philistaea correspondent

Nearly a month after the first bloody riots in Hierosolyma's Old Market, the Holy City once again enjoys peace and quiet, following the restoration of order by Imperial forces of all three major service branches. Imperial paratroopers and reservists were able to hold out against attacks by radical Islamic-Socialist and Jewish rebels, keeping the Temple Mount and Eastern Hierosolyma safe from the chaos and sectarian violence the engulfed much of the city's Western half. The rebels, whose cause was made even more hopeless due to the virtually ceaseless infighting between the Jews and Muslims as well as certain splinter groups among both major rebel forces, were taken aback by the rapid and forceful intervention of the XIII Armoured Brigade which entered the city after having been stationed in Tiberias since the early escalation of the conflict. The radicals of ISLAM were the first to fall, being surrounded and virtually destroyed by Imperial land forces, which were supported by heavy artillery units as well as flying units of the Imperial Military Aviation and the Imperial War Navy's Naval Aviation Arm, which sported newly purchased Eiffellander Sturmvögel (though since the first vessel of the Poseidōn-Class has not yet been completed, they had to be launched from land bases). Following the surrender of the Islamists' last elements, the JDF's forces were next to be targeted by Imperial troops, beings driven to a disorganised retreat to the mountains surrounding the Holy City. There, the last decisive battle was given near the village of Elaiochōri, but Imperial forces were able to defeat the last Jewish insurgents, forcing their survivors to surrender. Imperial aerial forces played a pivotal role in this battle, especially thanks to their use of the Charalampidēs Group's newly developed Ni-Pi liquid, a modern version of medieval Pelasgian fire.

The leader of ISLAM as well as the main religious leader of the Islamist radicals before ISLAM's rise to prominence among their ranks have both been arrested and are awaiting trial by the Areopagus, the Empire's Supreme Court of Cassation, in Propontis, while Avraam Bakas, the Rabbi of the Great Synagogue of Hierosolyma and the arrested leader and founder of the JDF, reportedly hang himself in his cell upon learning of his rebels' defeat. To celebrate this historic victory for the Empire's unity, the Emperor himself has decreed that a special medal of service, named the "Medal of Service for the Pacification of Philistæa", shall be granted to every member of the Imperial Armed Forces and Security Forces who served in restoring order to the Theme, while a march by one of the Imperial Land Army's most famous composers of military music called "Oros tōn Elaiōn" (after the Mountain of Olives near Hierosolyma, where the final battle of the Augousto-Septemvriana took place) has officially been adopted as a march of the Imperial Land Army. The Imperial Military Aviation has also commissioned a march under the name "Sons of Prometheus" to celebrate the first successful use of Ni-Pi liquid in combat.
Imperial troops, who were welcomed as heroes in Hierosolyma and the rest of Philistæa by the locals, have returned to Propontis, leaving reconstruction and maintenance of order to fresh replacement units and members of the Imperial Land Army's engineer corps. They have been granted a Triumph by the Emperor, with the approval of the Koinovoulio.

However
, despite all the celebrations and triumphs that are taking place across old Tivyria, Hierosolyma, Philistæa and the Empire as a whole have a long way to go following the rebellion; thousands upon thousands of Philistine Jews have only recently been left out of their internment camps, after signing papers disavowing all rebels and any cause against the Empire's territorial and national integrity, while many Muslim contract workers and immigrants have been ejected from the nation, with many being sceptical of just how precise and lenient the government's criteria for 'rebel sympathisers' were. Hierosolyma has suffered great and, in some cases, irreparable damage, while the Empire's Jews and Muslims have seen the bonds of their communities and the tolerance of the Empire's majority towards them strained to the max. Above all, this most recent crisis has brought forth a long standing issue that few seem to want to discuss, even though most aknowledge: the Empire's integration, homogenisation and Pelasgisation policies, especially aimed at minorities; over centuries, the Empire has managed to integrate many non-ethnic Pelasgians into Pelasgian culture and to settle and mix their areas to such a degree that they were almost indistinguishable from the Empire's 'true' Pelasgians. The Empire's Christian Arabs, most of whom now speak Pelasgian as their first tongue and identify primarily as Pelasgian citizens, with many being willingly completely Pelasgised, as well as other minorities have consistently been homogenised by an Empire which might have held racial equality to be an evident truth for centuries if not millennia, but still very much holds a belief in its own cultural superiority. With this revolt being seen by many as an immediate consequence of the Empire's national policy, just what does the future hold for the Empire's unchanged "One Empire, One Church, One Law" policy? SEPTEMBER 13 1956

2 PELHAM SQUARE,
DULWICH, GEWISSEX
ENGELLEXIAN REPUBLIC

The defining of love, and the degrees and measurements of its acceptance in society is not within the power of government, any government in Europe, as understood and recognised by the Engellexian Republic. To legislate the definition of human love against the realities of personal liberty, is to render it but an exclusive privilege afforded only to a section of society.

To uphold such a system is to deny your citizens equality and freedom. The enforcement of that position of intolerance and persecution, by any government, through the application of national law, given the concept of national law as a means of protection of every man, woman, and child which is found necessary by civilised societies, determines that the Engellexian Republic, by mutual constitutional understanding between the Council of State and the Engellexian Republic Parliament, cannot lawfully recognise the Pelasgian Empire as anything but an oppressive dictatorship, that is determinedly uncivilised.

The Engellexian Republic implores the Pelasgian Empire to rectify the great injustice that she daily inflicts upon her own people, by retreating from her position of aggressive intrusion upon the hearts and minds of her own people - people that have entrusted their own protection, health and future into her hands of officialdom.

Retreating from policies of intolerance and inequality, the Pelasgian Empire itself may find the resolutions to the number of emergencies routinely published as escalating within her borders.

Pelasgian Empire
Ministry of Foreign Affairs
Public Statement

12th of September, 1956
To whom it may concern.

This most ancient and prestigious of Empires has found it necessary to address some rather hypocritical and outright false statements, which were recently made by the Honourable Lady Georgiana Salwey, in her capacity as the Secretary of State of the Engellexian Republic.

The first and most obviously false of these is the assertion that the Pelasgian Empire, which is no small part responsible for the current borderline civilised state of Engellex, as well as the homeland of Western civilisation itself, is "uncivilised", a laughable statement at best, since the barbarian calling the Pelasgian "uncivilised" in akin to the fox saying that because she is unable to reach some grapes, they are spoiled.

The second and nearly equally laughable assertion made by the Honourable Lady is that the Pelasgian Empire is "an oppressive dictatorship". Apart from the fact that the Empire is a prime example of a well-governed and egalitarian Crowned Constitutional Parliamentary Democracy, which extends through Her institutions, laws and constitution equal rights and treatment to all Her citizens, this statement becomes all the more hypocritical when one comes to consider that Engellex is a textbook example of an Aristocratic Oligarchy.

The final and most saddening of claims made by Lady Salwey is that the Empire is exercising some sort of "injustice" towards Her citizens. We would like to take this opportunity to educate the Honourable Lady, informing her that all Pelasgian citizens are free to exercise their religion and speak their language, as well as teach it to their children, in their own private time. Our Empire enforces a common language and promotes a common culture for the same reasons as all other Nation-States, since it would be a self-defeating act to teach a myriad different languages and dialects in our schools, rendering our citizens unable to communicate with one another.

In the case of the Jews and Muslims, our Empire has long protected and subsidised their ancient religious and cultural sites and centres in Hierosolyma and elsewhere, which is why the vast majority of the Empire's Jewish and Muslim citizens, common folk and intellectuals alike, condemned the violence and bigotry of the JDL and ISLAM, forcing these two fanatical groups to rely mostly on radical foreigners.

If the Honourable Lady, or the government she represents, wish to see what true oppression and inhumane government look like, they only need look into a mirror and gaze upon the thousands upon thousands of slaves in all but name whom they have in their service, or should I say, possession.

Signed and Sealed,

Ikaros Dragasēs

ADDRESS OF THE SECRETARY OF STATE
FOREIGN DEPARTMENTS
FORTY-SEVENTH PARLIAMENT OF THE ENGELLEXIAN REPUBLIC
IN FORMAL CONCURRENCE

D U L W I C H

FIFTEENTH SEPTEMBER NINETEEN-FIFTY-SIX

TO THE PEOPLE, MINISTERS, AND HIS IMPERIAL MAJESTY THE EMPEROR OF THE PELASGIAN EMPIRE,

If the Honourable Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Pelasgian Empire supposed that social progress achieved during the Classical Antiquity was alone the point in which the Engellexian Republic had no right to form a position of interference against inequality in Europe, he at once demonstrated the principle of dictatorship made previous. If the Engellexian Republic Parliament at its own will and pleasure, had declared and continues to declare that it is within the interest and right of the Engellexian Republic to intercede on behalf of the persecuted throughout Europe in interference and support of their natural rights as equal members of the Human Race, did the Honourable Minister of Foreign Affairs suppose that the Pelasgian Empire, at its will and pleasure, could at any time dismiss the Sovereign determination of the Engellexian Republic Parliament to form its own rights and responsibilities?

Whatever the Honourable Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Pelasgian Empire said in Response as a Minister of the Crown in Pelasgia, and as the representative of the Pelasgian Empire in Europe, it was important that his words should go forth to the Subjects of the Crown of the Pelasgian Empire, and that they should know how far they had or had not the civil right to form their own, independent experiences and fulfilment of life as determined by the natural laws that have permitted for the greatest evolution of the industrious, social, and compassionate Human Race. Whether the Engellexian Republic Parliament had a right to intercede upon some or upon all peoples of Europe within or without the borders of the Engellexian Republic, or how far they might interfere with respect to the laws and regulations of legally prescribed punishment through an independent and impartial legal system practising within the Engellexian Republic, ought to be clearly understood. The Honourable Minister of Foreign Affairs, it is interpreted by the Engellexian Republic Parliament, apparently meant to say, that the Engellexian Republic of Angellex and Gewissex had the right to intercede for persecuted minorities in support and promotion of equality, freedom, and justice. But it did so appear that the Honourable Minister of Foreign Affairs lacked understanding of the fact that the right to advocate the universal progress and adoption of Human Rights was that which the Engellexian Republic Parliament most insisted upon as a Sovereign right belonging to it.

The Engellexian Republic Parliament would deny the proposition which the Honourable Minister of Foreign Affairs had maintained, that Sovereign right and authority could be cancelled or recalled at the pleasure of the Pelasgian Empire who, by the Honourable Minister of Foreign Affairs own assertion, delegated it through the limited progression of Occident civilisation that occurred within the borders of Ancient Pelasgia, that the Empire of Pelasgia has self-determined it has inherited. No man had asserted that any delegated authority could ever exceed that which the delegator had the power to bestow; but the Engellexian Republic Parliament would maintain, that power has not once ever been delegated but seized as Sovereign to the Citizens of the Engellexian Republic of Angellex and Gewissex, as occurred during a chapter of the great and many volumes of social, political and economic progress as taken and taking place within the borders of the Engellexian Republic, the First and Most Enlightened of Republics. The powers as they existed originally granted to the Royal Parliament, the predecessor to the Engellexian Republic Parliament, had only been delegated by the Gewissex Crown in weak appeasement and regression of civil responsibility. If the principle were good, it applied to small affairs as well as to great, provided they maintained the personal interest of the Crown. The principle had always been, that authority granted definitely by a royal power, whether like the charters from monarchs, or the charters granted to corporations, or those granted to civil institutions, could be revoked by the will of the Crown at its own royal discretion. If this being the true doctrine with respect to Monarchy, the Engellexian Republic Parliament knew not how a contrary opinion could prevail with respect to the Engellexian Republic as a bastion, an upholder of true Civilisation of the Occident.

Returning now back to the original source of contention existing now between the Engellexian Republic and the Pelasgian Empire. At this moment a great deal of discontent has prevailed against the Empire of Pelasgia; but the language of the Engellexian Republic inclusive of the Engell States of Himyar was exceptionally mild, nor were we disposed to break out into diplomatic and/ or economic violence, or to oppose the Government of his Imperial Majesty the Emperor of Pelasgia.

The grounds of complaint had been the right to personal freedom, the right of organised religious institutions to influence and curtail personal and civil liberties, and the assertion of the Pelasgian Imperial State to possess the right to legislate the persecution of minority communities. The Honourable Minister of Foreign Affairs had declared that the Pelasgian Empire was a prime example of a well governed and egalitarian Crown Constitutional Parliamentary Democracy, which extending through civil institutions, laws and constitution equal rights and treatments to all Her citizens, with the obvious and omitted exclusion of legislation denying equality to men and women who have determined a difference in prescribed sexualities. That statement of belief was then succeeded by the Honourable Minister of Foreign Affairs declaring that in the case of the Jews and Muslims, our Empire has long protected and subsidised their ancient religions, before this great diplomatic struggle had commenced, before swords had been drawn or a shot had been fired between religion extremists within the Pelasgian Empire, it should be acknowledged, as it is honestly recognised by the Engellexian Republic Parliament, that the Pelasgian Empire did submit itself, and its Sovereign will, to the determination, influence and sensitivities of religious bodies and institutions. This had undeniably been demonstrated by the severe reaction of the Church to the Homosexuals’ Rights Groups bringing the Cohabitation Agreement to central political focus; not mentioning, of course, the self-belief of religious communities and organisations to violently enforce their regressive system and beliefs upon the people of the Pelasgian Empire as a matter of fact. Religion must have no place in a civilised society; neither is it an evidenced factor of civilisation to have organised religion existing alongside and in participation of the State, instead to the contrary.

Notwithstanding this the Honourable Minister of Foreign Affairs pressed on in hostile measure against the honesty and progress of the Engellexian Republic Parliament; the Government of his Imperial Majesty the Emperor of Pelasgia would not persevere in their designs against enlightened and industrious position of the Engellexian Republic. But the Honourable Minister of Foreign Affairs had acknowledged that there were great questions respecting the existence of the Capital Duties as a legal form of punishment within the Engellexian Republic, and the only point the Engellexian Republic Parliament finds necessary to settle was, what those questions were. None were asked. The question or questions are therefore of importance. The honour of the Engellexian Republic Parliament remains involved in it, and it applied to the integrity and impartiality of the judiciary within the Engellexian Republic. It was therefore a very grave question, and the Engellexian Republic Parliament had a right to make demand upon it being answered. But this was a diplomatic circumstance totally distinct from the existence of Capital Duties within the Engellexian Republic and the Engell States of Himyar. The former was a question of equality, liberty and fraternity existing within the borders of the Pelasgian Empire, itself a self-annointed protector of religion and ancient tradition; but the question of slavery was of punishment severity within the Engellexian Republic, a question that is regularly and openly made within the Engellexian Republic Parliament without fear and persecution from any quarter of Engell society, and a form of punishment that is applied without discrimination, without considerations of rank, breeding, or position.

As the Engellexian Republic Parliament was resolved at the present moment to carry into effect all its pleasures and displeasure concerning the sickness and decline of the so-called homeland of Western civilisation, was it not possible that a time might arrive when it might have reason to entertain the strongest wish to abandon the concern and abandonment of Engell-Pelasgian relations - as strong a wish as that felt in the 14th century, when the Royal Parliament mustered the First Republic Army amidst a gloom, a discontent, and silence of the Last King against responsibility for his own atrocities? Astonishment and dejection are painted on the countenance of the Engellexian Republic Parliament. Was it not possible, notwithstanding the insolent and bold manner of the Honourable Minister of Foreign Affairs, that a time might come when, in consequence of foreign intercession, some other Minister of the Pelasgian Crown might be compelled to make address to the reasoned concerns of European neighbours, and make a proposition not unlike that which had been made by the Honourable Minister of Foreign Affairs?

LADY GEORGIANA SALWEY, DUCHESS of HAMMERSMITH
SECRETARY of STATE of the FOREIGN DEPARTMENTS
LADY COMMISSIONER of the COUNCIL of STATE

We want to comment on one remark by the Lady Commissioner of the Council of State and the Lord Speaker and Keeper of the Engellexian Republican Parliament of Engellex, to be precise the following remark.

Religion must have no place in a civilised society; neither is it an evidenced factor of civilisation to have organised religion existing alongside and in participation of the State, instead to the contrary.

A truely civilised society allows opinions differing from the mainstream opinion to be heard. The only limits are insulting, calling for violence and calling for discrimination. As a result, freedom of religion is one of the fundaments of a truely civilised society. A society that imposes a religion upon its members cannot be considered civilised. A society imposing atheism upon its members cannot be considered civilised, either.

OFFICIAL ANNOUNCEMENT
BY THE OFFICE OF HIS IMPERIAL MAJESTY,
THE EMPEROR OF THE PELASGIANS

XVII OF SEPTEMBER OF THE YEAR MCMLVI AFTER THE BIRTH OF CHRIST.

To the attention of the Fourty-Seventh Parliament of the Engellexian Republic.

Your Excellencies,

Since this statement was most boldly and inappropriately addressed to Us, We believe it is well within Our Prerogative to respond to it as We see fit, instead of delegating this task to one of Our Imperial Ministers.

The only state which seems to have a concern about the policies of this Empire is Engellex. Thus, Engellex should not try to portray its own concerns as those of “European neighbours” in general, as if doing so grants them any legitimacy. The only insolence which We can can detect in this whole debacle is that of the conduct of the Honourable Lady and, now, the Honourable Lord Speaker, who has taken her side instead of reprimanding her as is fit. The Republic should not try to portray itself as the assaulted party for it is its own officials who commenced this spar in the most aggressive and shocking of manners.

This insolence includes a failure to grant condolences in such a bloody and perilous time, placing the blame for the actions of murderous radicals on the Pelasgian Empire and repeatedly insulting this very Nation and Our Person (in no small part by addressing this most repugnant of letters to Us, especially since neither one of the Honourable Lords has a rank equivalent to ours and thus the authority to address Our Person), in which they did not neglect to call our Empire “barbaric”, “oppressive”, “dictatorial”, “decadent” and “declining”. Words do not suffice to express the offence We and Our people have taken.

The Republic takes pride in freely discussing slavery, as if that somehow negates its existence, while its officials are, as it would seem, ignorant that they are conversing with the Officials of a Nation which has both Freedom of Speech and Expression in addition to having abolished slavery centuries in advance of this debate. This Empire makes no discrimination against any of its citizens and only demands of them to respect Her laws. Religion has no part in Pelasgian politics, but has a mere ceremonial connection to the state through Our Person. Indeed, We believe that Our choice to allow freedom of religion (and of atheism, for that matter) is superior to an enforced atheism.

Pertaining to the “rights of Homosexuals” We would like to point out that Our Empire was under a dictatorial government for a long time and has thus not yet had the chance to address this issue. However, it remains, since the most ancient of times, the conviction of most Pelasgians that marriage can only truly occur between a man and a woman, for the purpose of marriage is reproduction. As the “Most Enlightened” (though certainly not the “First”, as that title belongs to Tibur and even Justiza is a far older Republic) of Republics, We are certain that you are aware of the etymological familiarity of the Pelasgian words which mean “to fornicate” (the word in question being only applicable to Heterosexual intercourse) and “to marry”.

Homosexuals already enjoy the right to a Civil Union via the Imperial Constitution’s Provisions. The new “Cohabitation Agreement” which Homosexuals’ Rights Groups seek to push forth is inclusive of all rights afforded to actual married couples, including adoption. While We shall take no position on this, it is the position of most Pelasgian citizens, as expressed via our most recent elections, that such a change should not take place. We ought to remind the Honourable Lords that one cannot force so-called “progress” on the Demos of a Democracy without the Demos’s consent, for that is uncivilised and most tyrannical.

We also ought to point out that Our Minister never made the assertion that Our Empire cannot be criticised due to Her ancient roots and history. To claim that is to twist reality. What Our Minister stated is that this Empire cannot be called barbaric, especially by Engellex of all countries. Indeed, We stand by this statement. The Laws of a Civilisation stem from its values, and the most universal and basic of all of these is that nobody likes to be oppressed, especially for characteristics which they have no control over. Thus, like any circle which is closer to an ideal circle is more circular than all others, any Society which is closer to this ideal is more Civilised. Our Empire is one which is openly democratic and extends suffrage to all of its citizens, including naturalised foreigners. Your Republic reserves civil rights to its upper classes and continues to allow a form of thraldom, in all but name, while maintaining colonies to which it has no historic or cultural connection and to whose populations it extends a conduct which is less than friendly and ideal.

The Republic should not insolently demand thanks for not extending sanctions but should instead extend thanks for Our calm and reserved conduct, for it should know all too well it cannot possibly hope to sustain the effects of Our wrath, or at least silently ignore this part of the affair. It would also be advisable not to attempt to cause a rift in our relations, especially at a time when our common Gallo-Germanian allies are in grave danger. For this reason, We shall offer no further response to any comments by the Honourable Lords and We shall push for no punitive action against Engellex, hoping that they might show Our Empire the same courtesy. We shall, however, respond in kind to any aggressive and foolish policy they might dare to enact against out Empire or Her Citizens and Interests.

That being said We recognise Engellex’s immense contributions to Western Civilisation and hope that we can build a more productive and warmer relationship in the future. We can only hope that Engellex shares our hopes and aspirations, if only so as to counter the threats to Western Civilisation which seem to appear on all sides of Europe. We wish the Engellexian people and their Republic the best of fortunes for all of eternity.

Signed in Red and Sealed in Gold,

DON QUIXOTE AND THE WINDMILL OF INTERNATIONAL POLITICS

Engellex seeks to externalise internal problems by creating imaginary enemies and oppressors
by Thoukydides Makriades, Geopolitical analyst

In recent days we have seen an unprecedented diplomatic spar between the Empire and the Republic of Engellex. This all started with an Engell statement, which labeled the Empire an "oppressive dictatorship" and "uncivilised", while blaming the terrorist activities of ISLAM and the JDL on the Imperial Authorities' common language & culture educational policy. A response by the Imperial Minsitry of Foreign Affairs denied the claims of the Engellexian Lady who issued the first statement, only to be followed by a statement by the Republic'c Parliament, signed by the Secretary of State and Speaker of Engellex, being addressed to the "People, Ministers and His Imperial Majesty, the Emperor of the Pelasgian Empire". This new statement included a new set of vitriolic insults against the Empire as well as further claims of the barbarity of the Empire and of the impertinence of Her Ministers. The Emperor Himself was forced to reply, stating that any "impertinence" in this whole debate came from the Engell side, while also noting that the Parliament and its officials should address letters to those of equal rank (ie. the Imperial Koinovoulio, the Imperial Ministry of Foreign Affairs etc.) and not to Himself, so as to respect protocol. He also noted that any economic or diplomatic sanctions will be returned in kind but wished Engellex and Her people all the best and stated his aspiration to an improved relationship.

Sadly, the Emperor's measured stance did not help the Republic's officials to calm themselves, but they instead mistook (or pretended to mistake) His Imperial Majesty's statement that sanctions shall be returned in kind for a threat of war, leading them to form an entire committee to prepare for such a possibility and to consider severing diplomatic relations. In fact, a very calm and civil statement by the Foreign Ministry of the Kingdom of Eiffelland
, which sought to merely point out that state atheism is just as bad as state theism, was enough for the Republic to summon the Eiffellander ambassador and to consider relations between Herself and the Kingdom strained. Words seem to be wasted, which is why His Imperial Majesty decided to end the debate on the Pelasgian side, in the most reconciliatory and peaceful manner possible.

To an outside observer, this might appear to be a misunderstanding or even the stuff of fiction; sadly, it is the direct result of the Republic's paranoia. Since its inception, the Aristocratic Republic has always tried to portray itself as assaulted on all sides by the monarchies of Gallo-Germania and Himyar. While that might have been true at the time, in modern day Europe, any hostility towards its régime probably originates from the globe's hatred of slavery and not from any wish to restore the brutal and long gone monarchy of Engellex's Royal House. But, Dullwich finds itself in the midst of a crisis: a combination of power struggles between the Parliament's factions and the various states and colonies making up the Republic, in addition to the slave-based economy being strained to the max and vast class tensions have led the Republic to seek external threats, real or imagined, so as to vent its internal problems, which might very well doom its current régime.

To this end, the Empire and the Kingdom of Eiffelland serve as the perfect enemy: ancient, decadent Constitutional Monarchies, "fake Crowned Republics" which oppress their peoples and minorities, with vast internal problems (projection if I have ever seen it) and global expansionist ambitions, with an unprecedentedly hawkish foreign policy. Do Engellex's lower classes lack a voice in politics? Look at the tyranny by majority with which the Pelasgians oppress Jews and Muslims! Are Engellex's poor starving, so much so that grain rationing is required? Look at Eiffelland's shocking defence of the wasteful clergy! Do Engellex's colonies and isles act as enemies instead of brothers? The Pelasgian Emperor is a bloodthirsty lunatic who butchers innocent civilians! Certainly, Engellex might be in dire straits, between the Scylla of the people's wrath and the Charybdis of Engell Himyar's growing strength, but all must unite to drive back the Eiffellander and Pelasgian devils and spread the "Glorious Revolution" to the whole of Europe!

In a way, most Pelasgians have always considered Kadikistan to be the Don Quixote of International Politics, charging gallantly towards the dreaded windmills of Capitalism, Imperialism and the Bourgeoisie on the plains of Europe, with Serenierre as his Sancho Panza and the Marxist-Leninovist International as his Rocinante. But Kadikistan, for all its faults, has the basic decency to condemn terror and to grant its condolences to the innocent victims of violence, even when they are the citizens of one of its most bitter rivals. Perhaps that role is now undertaken by Engellex. One can only hope that our Don Quixote wakes up, sends away the Sancho Panza that is Engell Aristocracy, gets off the Rocinante of Engell Himyar and lives a good life, wishing of his Antonia (the Engell people) to have a good future and to never subject themselves to the lies and caprices of another Sancho Panza. THE NEW FACE OF PELASGIAN POLITICS

Expanded Civil Unions, Prometheists & Aliakmoniōtists
by Polykarpos Papatheodorou, Geopolitical analyst

A few days ago, a petition which had gathered several hundreds of thousands of signatures managed to make it to voting floor of the Imperial Koinovoulio. The National Assembly rejected the proposal, as did the Senate. The proposal objective? Expanded Civil Unions for homosexual couples, which would afford them adoption, inheritance, marital status and other rights afforded to heterosexual couples, effectively transforming the Civil Unions, which were integrated in the new Imperial Constitution of 1956, into Civil Marriages for homosexuals in anything but name. While one could sense the abhorrence of the Ecumenical Patriarchate even if they were in Shangqiu, this article is not meant to comment on the developments in question with the purpose of a close examination of the status of homosexuals' rights in Empire, either as a conservative or a liberal, but instead so as to remark at the rather peculiar events which took place in the Koinovoulio.

For, while this session lacked any shocking and deplorable events, unlike the one pertaining to the Empire's recent treaties with the United Kingdom of Laurenburg, the alliances and factions that were formed in both Chambers of the Common Parliament were unprecedented. For starters, it was probably the first (and possibly the sole) time whence the Nationalists and Conservatives of the Nationalist Party and National Rally, respectively, aligned their votes with those of the Imperial Government. The Democratic Socialists and Social Democrats of the Socialist Labour Party were barely able to maintain party discipline so as to not compromise the Coalition Government's unity, saying that "the time was not yet right for such reform" (one could come to ask when the time in question would finally honour us with its arrival), while the Merchantile Union voted in favour of the legislation. The Liberal Union and the Internationalist Communist Party of Pelasgia were the only ones acting perfectly predictably, with the former rejecting the proposal and the latter abstaining, with its usual tirade of generic "against all" statements (which seem awfully similar to those of its hated rival, the Nationalist Party) providing the public with their usual taste of unparliamentary behaviour.

While the reasons for the Nationalists and Conservatives' choices might seem to be rather evidently related to religion, and for the latter that is largely true, one could very well connect them to the recent revival in interest in the Nationalist politics of Aiolos Aliakmoniōtēs. For those who do not know, Aiolos Aliakmoniōtēs (more accurately spelled Haliakmoniōtēs, though that would be against the famed Demoticist's wishes) was a prominent Pelasgian author, politician and diplomat of the early 20th century who, among other things, is considered the father of modern Pelasgian Nationalism; this is because, while there had been forms of Pelasgian nationalism before his own, he was the first one to develop a clear and widely popular Nationalistic ideology, which was directly opposed to the Liberal Nationalism of Aristeidēs Krevatas and his then nascent Liberal Union. One of his ideology's central tenets was a belief in the central role of the traditional nuclear Pelasgian family, not so much for religious reasons, as due to a recognition of its contribution to the demographic growth and social development of the Empire. It is assumed by many that Neo-Aliakmoniōtism might come to replace the moribund Neo-Valentian Nationalism of the Junta as the dominant ideology of the Nationalist Party, while the Conservatives will have a much harder time dealing with an opponent whose arguments extend beyond "the Junta built roads" and no longer include dreams to "fly the Imperial banner over the Eternal City".

The Merchantile Union's liberal attitudes are a direct result of its wish to encourage policies that will expand private spending of individuals and it is well known the homosexuals and newly wed couples are among the biggest spenders in Pelasgia's internal market; a combination of the two would be the closest thing a corporate "person" could have to a New Year's present by Saint Basilius. As for the Liberal Union's partner in government, the Socialist Labour Party, the ancient curse of the Empire's Left seems to have made its presence known once more: disunity. The newly created Prometheist Party of Pelasgia (also known as Promētheïstiko Komma Pelasgias and PKP to foreign readers through the transcription of its Pelasgian name and initials, respectively) might lack seats in the Koinovoulio and be limited to a small presence in various Thematic Voules, but come next election, it is sure to draw MPs and voters from the SEKP like a sponge draws water. Prometheism offers an alternative to those who are not merely left leaning centrists but are not fans of the DKKP's extremes either, while the DKKP still bares the mark of its recent past and the SEKP's alliance with the Liberal Union, while considered by practically everyone to have been for the good of the country, has turned into a vassalage of the Coalition Government's junior partner by the senior one.

Regardless of your political affiliations one thing is certain: Pelasgian politics are changing. Old, indigenous ideas are make a strong comeback and new, foreign movements are also making their presence known. All the while, the Liberal Union seems to be the only force truly gaining something from its opponents' fragmentation, while its own voter base grows thanks to the success of a Coalition Government which is its own in all but name.

DISPUTED STRAITS, BAD FAITH, AND UNLIKELY FRIENDSHIPS

Questionable Justinian claims, Imperial obligations, and SWR-Saaremaa cooperation
by Polykarpos Papatheodorou, Geopolitical analyst

Of all the times one could be happy they weren't the whip of the Liberal Union or SEKP, this weekend was surely the most obvious one; Parliament was in uproar, with the whips of both coalition government parties working so hard, one of them is rumoured to have actually threatened to resign. And it's no mystery, considering how the Empire was forced to defend Justinian claims of control over the straits between its two main island groups. Since the waters in question are not Justinian territorial waters, but international waters, it would be rather evident that Justiza, just like any nation, has no right to control neither shipping nor the passage of military vessels through them. Yet, that did not stop the Justinian government from causing a multi-sided international dispute, the likes of which have to be seen since the small, insular nation itself was blockaded illegally by Kadikistani warships.

The result? Half the Koinovoulio calling for the Prime Minister's head and Saaremaa striking a deal with the devil, so to say, by abandoning all support of Justiza, and almost certainly pressuring others to do the same, in exchange for the self-proclaimed "Socialist World Republic's" silent approval of the recent coup and illegal constitutional change in Loago. Of course, one could assume the Saaremaa was waiting to do find an excuse for this since long ago, but then one has to wonder why Justiza would give them an excuse, all the while straining Her ties with the Long Sea Allies to the max. Certainly, the Empire publicly defended the Republic as well as She could, but one can only imagine the outrage which was expressed in secret diplomatic channels.

This all comes to showcase a general change in diplomacy, to avoid using the word breakdown and reconstruction from scratch. The nations which were once united against Kadikistan, with Saaremaa being right at the front line, have lost all semblance of a joint bloc, being reduced to two or three regional blocs, concerned solely with their own, regional defence. The so called "Socialist World Republic" seems to pose a much greater threat to world freedom than Kadikistan from an Imperial point of view, but for the nations of the north
, such as Saaremaa, the "Republic" is a great distraction for Kadikistani wrath and a potential ally against Kadikistani expansionism. The nations which are in danger from both are left to fend for themselves, while those nations of the Free World which are not in direct peril from the spread of Communism are content with their all but temporary peaceful solitude. Socialism's biggest problem, its division, which was once thought of as its damning weakness, has now become its greatest asset.

And in Geotri, the rise of an ideology on the other side of the political horse-shoe of extremes might very be the nail in the coffin for any hope of a joint front against Communism. Perhaps Justiza is trying to keep the dream of such a front alive, for Her own sake, but between the insular Republic's own recklessness and the hopes of emerging powers, such as Huaxia, to make way for their own expansion into disputed regions of the world, that dream is as good as dead. The Imperial Government might also be trying their best to keep the dream alive, but, right now, they should be more concerned with keeping themselves in power. A month ago, the isolationists who called the Empire's defence of faraway nations and our establishment of bases on Justinian soil and in the Horn of Himyar "needless Imperialism" could have been dismissed as a tiny minority of defeatists, who had lost all touch with reality. Today, the Empire's government is truly having a hard time in reconciling its own obligations under the Status Quo Treaty, to maintain peace, and the legacy inherited from the Komnenian Junta, to save face. To whomever this concerns

We, The VSP (Fascist), have stated many times in speeches to be strongly against the terrible powers of communism. I promise you that if I, Adolf Schmied, am elected to serve as President of Geotri I will surely assist in any anti-communist activities. I take the threat of communism seriously and I will be sure to defeat such a terrible and might force. I am no ally of communism, and if you feel the same I can assure you we can reach a middle ground and solve the problem.

Best Regards,

Adolf Schmied

GOVERNMENT REAFFIRMS DEDICATION TO STATUS QUO TREATY

Base on Justiza to be closed, as part of general shift in policy - Apology to other signatories
by Polykarpos Papatheodorou, Geopolitical analyst

The Imperial Government has officially announced the abandonment of the Empire's base in Justiza's Baio di Spigola, as part of a greater change in Imperial policy concerning the Kalahari. More specifically, the Empire has vowed to respect the Status Quo Treaty, declaring the document to be the principal guideline for Imperial policy with pertinence to the Kalahari Sea. The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ikaros Dragases, made a statement yesterday, during a press conference, in which he stated that "the Empire would like to offer Her most sincere apology to Her partners in the Kalahari, due to her failure to abandon the Junta's illegal policies, which were in direct breach of the Status Quo Treaty, sooner. Let it be known that from now on, the Empire shall consider the Treaty to be the sole legitimate document with respect to foreign policy in the Kalahari, concerning the region's nations, which are the only countries with legitimate interests in this most fair of High Seas." The Minister went on to say that "the Imperial Base in Baio di Spigola, which had been set up by the illegitimate Junta, has served to do more harm than good, for which we owe an apology to to all nations of the Kalahari, Kadikistan in particular, as well as Justiza Herself. For that reason, it shall be immediately closed down; in fact, Imperial troops are evacuating and dismantling the base right now, and they should be back in the Fatherland by the end of the week."

In the Koinovoulio, the Nationalists, a party which is rather openly pro-Junta, were alone in standing against the decision; the Prometheist wing of the SEKP also expressed protestations against the decision, as they considered the reasoning of the proposal (ie. that it was done due to an obligation to the Status Quo Treaty, instead of one to the international community in general), but they supported the Coalition Government's decision, so as to not compromise unity in such a perilous time. The Conservatives were particularly in favour of the decision, due to their general belief in an isolationist foreign policy, just like the Mercantile Union's members, who found the Empire's former stance to be disruptive to international trade in the region. At the same time, the Empire's base at the Horn of Himyar shall be retained at least until the end of the year, due to the Empire's Treaty Obligation to Lauenburg to maintain colonial security amidst a wave of instability. The base is technically not in the Kalahari, but in the Clarencian so it it is not touched on by the Treaty.

Furthermore, the Empire has decided to attend a summit hosted by the self-proclaimed "Socialist World Republic" with regards to the state of the Kalahari. The Empire has made it very clear that She does not recognise any of the core points of the South Himyari State's opinion of the subject, while many in Propontis view the involvement of an external power in the Kalahari's affairs suspiciously. The wide difference in viewpoints, in addition to the Empire's conviction to abide by Treaties which Engello-Socialist Himyar rejects have raised many concerns over whether the summit can actually succeed. At any rate, nobody could now accuse the Empire of being an aggressor or of not trying Her best to find a peaceful solution to the Baio di Spigola Base Affair. Perhaps, this strategic concession by the Empire was meant to achieve just that. [continued on page 2]

KOINOVOULIO REJECTS PROPOSAL TO REPEAL THE SEMETIC MIGRATION DECREE

The act remains effective since the end of Augousto-Sepemvriana which forced the legislature to quickly approve it
by Stauros Nikolakopoulos, Political correspondent

The Koinovoulio has rejected a proposal put forth by Mardochaios Levis, a Jewish member of the National Assembly for SEKP, with a clear majority opposing it in both the National Assembly and the Senate, though the latter did not need to officially vote, due to the former's rejection of the proposal. The proposal, which was put to the Koinovoulio at the request of the Jewish Association of the Pelasgian Empire, after gathering the required amount of signatures to be considered, entailed repealing the Semetic Migration Decree, which was put into place earlier this year, as a result of the emergency measures enacted in response to the Augousto-Septemvriana. While the Empire has always been very resistant to foreign migration, being a jus sanguinis state with respect to nationality instead of jus soli, in addition to having very demanding naturalisation laws, the temporary prohibition of Jewish and Urodoah migration to the Empire, and Philistaea in particular, is aimed as a direct response to any attempts to settle the land with foreign Jews, so as to seize the Theme which contains the Holy City.

According to its authors, the proposal was put forth to permit the settlement of Jewish refugees in the wake of the recent Chetnik Crisis. However, as a member of the National Assembly representing the National Rally pointed out, there are a number of peaceful and safe countries between Pelasgia and Chetnik, including Trivodnia, a country which is very tolerant of Jews. Another member of National Assembly, belonging to the Liberal Union, noted that "if Chetnik's Jews are to make the long and potentially dangerous or costly journey across the Long Sea, Ashkelon would be a much better destination for them than the Empire." Apart from the Empire's paranoia towards Jewish and Urodoah migration in the wake of the Augousto-Septemvriana and the recent attempts by many in Ashkelon to claim Hierosolema for themselves, concerns that a major wave of migration could compromise the decades' long effort of the Empire to fully integrate and assimilate all minorities also seem to be a factor behind the Koinovoulio's decision. A similar act, which was to be considered by the Thematic Boule of Philistaea, was scrapped after the Areopagus found it to be unconstitutional, since the Thematic Boule lacks authority over such matters.

Recently, an act which was passed by the Federal Congress of Ashkelon approved plans to negotiate a peaceful "settlement". The settlement in question aims to turn Hierosolema into an enclave of Ashkelon, depriving the Empire of a major urban centre, in which Jews are but a minority, and the Orthodox Church one of Christianity's Holy Cities. The Imperial Government made it very clear that under no circumstances would "a single breath of air, a single drop of water, or a handful of soil" of the Empire be handed over to any foreign country. While rumours of covert negotiations through diplomatic channels have been circulating recently, the Imperial Government has categorically denied all such claims. Even more concerning was the outburst of the representatives of the Aliyah Party, who seek a war of aggression with the Pelasgian Empire and, by extent, the countries of Trier Concord. The Pelasgian Embassy in Hebron released an official public statement which characterised the Aliyah Party as an "ultra-nationalist, aggressive, warmongering relic of a bygone era." The Free States is opposed to any measures that limit the movement of people based on their culture or race, and while understanding the concerns Pelasgia has around political agitation focused on the status of Jerusalem and the Holy Land more generally, urges a more generous approach, especially to those fleeing conflict or war.

The Combine assures the Pelasgian Empire that there will be no declarations of war in the foreseeable future. The Aliyah Party and its ilk represent an ever-shrinking and minuscule fraction of the Ashkeloni population. We are a people of peace, and we intend to keep it that way.

THE SCEPTRE AND THE SICKLE: THE EMPIRE'S UNEASY RELATIONSHIP WITH COMMUNISM

How and why the Empire maintains an uneasy alliance with Kadikistan but remains opposed to an expansion of Communism
by Stauros Nikolakopoulos, Political correspondent

The Imperial Government's recent spar with Sheridan over the tolerance, if not support, the Anarcho-Communist nation has shown towards international Anarcho-Communist terrorist elements, in addition to hints at a possible withdrawal of recognition of the Saare Communist regime in favour of the Royalist Government in Exile in Loago, following revelations of brutal human rights abuses by the Becker regime in the Scanian nation, has led many to ask precisely what the Empire's position towards Communism and Radical Leftism in general is. An article from the Central Newspapers of Kadikistan, dated November 28, 1956, under the title "Kadikistan and Pelasgia, enemies in ideology, friends in service of stability?" is considered to by many to be a perfect example of the Empire's realpolitik with regards to global communism.

Whilst the Empire has clearly committed itself to a cooperation with Kadikistan as per the Status Quo Treaty, to ensure peace and stability in the Kalahari Sea and beyond, in addition to more or less respecting Kadikistan's "back yard" in the shape of not interfering in any way in the Kadiksitani-Jurazni conflict, Propontis has clearly not stopped opposing the global spread of Marxism-Leninovism in any way. Recent calls for sanctions to be placed on Sheridan as a result of its failure to adequately suppress the terrorist group within its borders have found great appeal in the Koinovoulio, especially in the Senate, with the Pelasgian public being very supportive of such a move. With regards to Saaremaa, the Empire's recent declarations seem to be more than just empty words, as rumours of increased diplomatic contact with the Loago Government and many other anti-Communist states in Himyar and beyond are painting a clear picture of an Imperial Government determined to stem the recent rise in Marxist terrorism and upheaval, especially in the Empire's home continent.

The recent participation of Imperial companies and private security personnel, which rarely operate in areas where the Imperial government and public would be against their involvement, in the construction of the a major dam project in Tizona, are indicative of a determination to put away past rivalries and differences, petty and significant alike, with the singular goal of preventing more of the European globe from being painted in the red ink of Communism and the rivers of innocents' blood that always accompany it.

At the same time, it is rather clear that the Empire is much more tolerant towards certain forms of Marxism (such as the milder, less radical Marxist-Leninovist ideology of the Kadikistani-dominated International, and Saaremaa's once flourishing Prometheism) than other radical, vitriolic ideological stems, such as Sheridan's Anarcho-Communism and the Southern Himyari States' jingoistic Internationalist Socialist ideology, which seeks to bring the entirety of Europe into the Deliverance regime's fold, all in the name of "human rights", the "proletariat", the quest to "end imperialism", or whatever else the neo-imperialists of the far left have come up with to justify their hateful ideology for this month.[continued on page 2]

"The continued success and upholding of the Status Quo Treaty proves to all nations that it is possible for nations with a completely different and even conflicting world-views can coexist and even cooperate to ensure stability for some of Europe's economically most important trade routes. We appreciate the recent efforts of the Pelasgian government to undo the damage done by the nationalists and reaffirm the partnership in the Kalahari Sea. Meanwhile we will continue to uphold our end of the agreement while remaining vigilant. Future conflicts will be inevitable, but if both our great nation's maintain the current course we will be able to prevent bloodshed. Meanwhile we will remain vigilant of our ideological enemies and geographical rivals, especially concerning the unclear future of the Furzillo rogue regime and the fair democratic treatment of the DKKP."

PROPONTIS CHOOSING WHITE OVER RED

How Pelasgia is increasingly supporting Royal Saaremaa
by Stauros Nikolakopoulos, Political correspondent

In the wake of the publication of the Imavere Declaration, the Imperial Government has decided to officially direct all Pelasgians in Saaremaa to leave the country, in addition to closing down all diplomatic offices and consulates in the country, save for the embassy in Kuressaare, until further notice. The embassy itself has seen its personnel reduced, and rumours of it too being soon closed down are circulating among diplomatic circles. At the same time, the Empire officially inaugurated its embassy in Maseru, announcing its intention to open consulates in a number of major cities of the nascent state soon, whilst also granting a building right across from the Red Saare embassy to government of Loago to house its own embassy in Propontis, clearly indicating the equal footing and legitimacy of both states in the Empire's eyes.

In the Koinovoulio, call for a withdrawal of the Empire's recognition of, as well as a host of other sanctions on, the Becker regime, have been reiterated time and time again. Finally, an member of the National Assembly belonging to the National Rally, Vasilios Leontiopoulos, from northern Melingia, has submitted such a proposal. The Conservative member's proposal has garnered a great deal of support, from both the moderate left and the traditional and far right, though it is unclear whether the dominant centre, along with the Market Liberal right, will support it to ensure its passage. Titled "Sanctions against the Becker regime of Saaremaa in response to Crimes Against Humanity," it entails completely severing relations with the Communist "People's Republic", recognising the Loago-based Royalist government, placing an embargo on Saare goods, and calling on the nations of the world to help end the tyranny of General Becker and the Party of the Left, while openly supporting the opposition's cause.

Though it is generally assumed that the bill will not pass, the present steps taken by the Empire have made it clear that Propontis is growing tired of Kadikistan's newest puppet. After all, to the Maseru-based Royal Government in Exile, equal footing with the Kuressaare government is an important upgrade, whereas for the latter, it is a gashing wound in its pride, international status, and claims to legitimacy. The once hopeless struggle for the restoration of legitimacy and rule of law in Saaremaa seems to be giving way to the Saare people's wishes in the hearts and minds of the Free World. "The Kadikistani State is highly concerned with the recent rhetoric coming out of Propontis. Indeed these are the kinds of words that we hoped would never return with the end of the nationalist-militarist regime earlier this year. Allow us to be abundantly clear in saying that the Communist Workers' Party of Saaremaa and its leader General Roman Becker still has the support of the large majority of the Saare people regardless of decades of prometheist indoctrination and repression. Without this support our Saare Marxist-Leninovist comrades would have never managed to end the deep-rooted social-capitalist regime only a few months ago. To assume that such popular support, and thus the true legitimacy of the People's Republic of Saaremaa, has dwindled to a few thousand 'fanatics' would be highly presumptuous and frankly foolish. Kadikistan is not blind to the insults coming from the Pelasgian political elite and do not interpret them lightly. Such warmongering will only lead to a destabilized Saaremaa and thus an even further destabilized Gothic Sea which has already seen enough war the past few years. We remind the Pelasgians that while our commitment to the Status Quo Treaty remains solid, the latter has no founding in the North and we will not sacrifice our position, nor those of the new revolutionary states for the sake of peace in the South. Derecognition of the Saare People's Government is a second step on the path towards war after recognizing the self-proclaimed Empire of Loago. We urge you in the strongest fashion not to force our hand."
