PM PLANTARD: "Pragmatic solutions must be found to revolutionize our standing on the international stage"
PM PLANTARD: "Pragmatic solutions must be found to revolutionize our standing on the international stage"
Yesterday, at a press conference in Grosvenor House, the Prime Minister announced to the Belmontien media a new foreign policy which, by even the most conservative estimates, is very ambitious. The new foreign policy, made almost single handedly by Foreign Minister Shahrazad S. Martin, is more hawkish, compared to the previous Villepin Doctrine, and more proactive. The Sherry Doctrine, as we are choosing to call it, calls for supporting regimes across the world devoted to the preservation of democracy and human rights. The Sherry Doctrine is also noted for its harsh stance on communism, although not much detail is given related to this in the Press Copy.
The Prime Minister, after explaining a few features of the new doctrine, went to state that he supported Belmont joining either the EDF or AGE but said that he himself was in no position to decide which one was better. He expressed his intention of keeping Belmont as a bridge between the two alliances and to cooperate extensively with the members of the alliances and the alliances as a collective. The Prime Minister also said that he would maintain Belmont's embargo on the IRB member states.
The Prime Minister announced, triumphantly, that he would be embarking on state visits to Montelimar, Lorraine, Wiese, Franken, Frescania and Austurland. The Prime Minister said the purpose of the visit was to "meet up with old friends and discuss plans for a stable and secure future." The Prime Minister said that the Foreign Minister would also embark on her own tour to Oikawa, the Levantine States, the Skansige Staatsunion and Arendaal to "make friends in regions we have ignored in the past." It seems the Queen also is taking part in the PR campaign, her Office has announced that the Queen would embark on her own state visit to the Kingdoms of Montelimar, Lorraine, Marquette, Franken and Austurland. The Queen has also indicated she would visit the Papal States and Talemantros for a private audience with the two Patriarchs.
The Prime Minister went on to state that he would invite his counterpart from Marquette to "demolish the lines of division" between the two francophone states which has existed since the 1799 invasion of Belmont by Marquette. The Prime Minister said that the continued occupation of the southern territory of Bilbao, which had been Belmontien till 1799, by Marquettan forces is against international law and he felt that the issue had to be discussed properly and resolved definitively.
The Prime Minister added that he was appalled by the continued suffering of the Wazistani people and he wanted to assure the Wazistani nation and people that Belmont would remain committed in aiding the Ijad government in controlling the rebel movements which operate within the country. The Prime Minister said that he was acutely aware of the dangers posed by terrorism to the Belmontien ideals. In his opinion, religious terrorism and communist terrorism are both equal threats to Belmontien society.

Parliament approves Continued Economic Prosperity Act 2009
The Parliament has approved the Continued Economic Prosperity Act 2009 (CEPA). The act, which was introduced by the PCB late in July, is devised to guide the economic policy for the country for the fiscal years of 2010 and 2011. The CEPA was approved by a large margin, with 450 yeas and 50 nays, CEPA has been sent to the Finance Ministry for a final review, after which, the Palace would receive a copy for the Queen's signature. The Palace has also welcomed CEPA's approval by the Parliament and the Privy Council's Financial Sub-committee has also voiced its support for the CEPA and have applauded the Parliament's decision.
The CEPA 2009 is an ambitious two year plan which aims for creating up to 548,000 jobs in 2010 and an additional 426,800 jobs in 2011. To do so, CEPA has set out to give businesses incentives, such as tax breaks, to hire more staff. CEPA, also, would inject hundreds of millions for infrastructural development which would provide thousands with temporary jobs. The act also will give the heavy industries a tax cut of 5.65% and the government will be required to grant funds to the agricultural sector for said sector to invest in more equipment. Majority of CEPA is focused on the south, the least developed areas of Belmont. While for the north, CEPA only provides the previous policies which have been so beneficial for that region of the country.

Talks with Marquette, Lorraine proposed concerning Champlain Canal Project (CCP) in Orleans
The Prime Minister's Office has announced that within the end of the month invitations would be sent to the southern and south-eastern neighbors for a meeting in Paris. The purpose of the meeting would be to discuss the feasibility of the project and to resolve some minor tensions with Marquette. The Foreign Minister also issued a statement which made clear that Belmont saw immense economic benefit for all three nations and that a collective, cohesive and cooperative path be taken for the Champlain Canal Project.
The Ministry for Environmental Protection has also raised concerns related to the possible threat to the flora and fauna of the Champlain Lake area by industrial development related to the industrial project. The Ministry has said that it would convey these concerns to the Marquette and Lorraine delegations.
