These are the news:
The declaration of independence by the city of Augustaborg in the Eastern Cape has been met with severe criticism by Carentanian authorities, who have publically called the act illegal and a threat to the future of the Eastern Cape as a whole. According to the Carentanian government, intelligence on the situation in Augustaborg confirms that the independence declaration was carried out by a right-wing militia that has forcefully taken over local interim government and the hasty timing of the declaration, not even waiting to confirm whether there would be a democratic majority for such a policy, casts a dubious light on the motivations of the Augustaborg Gang. Carentanian forces in the region have reported that they would react swiftly to restore legitimate order and protect Eastern Cape sovereignity so it could enter into independence as a single and unified state, rather than a number of fiefdoms dependant upon foreign powers yet again.
Some days after Cantignia confirmed its signatory status to the Revolutionary Defense Treaty Organization, a mission of advisors from the different government branches has been dispatched to help Cantignia progress towards Socialism by assessing the current domestic situation and gathering proposals for political and economic reform. The delegation, which has no authority beyond crafting advice for the current Cantignian government, will also involve military experts from the Commissariate for Defense. Since Carentania now has defensive obligations towards the Gallo-Germanic nation, coordinating the Cantignian security interests with Carentanian assets becomes a priority. The delegation is planned to tour Cantignia until early may.
The discovery of a copper vein in a protected part of the central Haemian Mountains has sparked controversy as to the future of the national park in question. Factions within the Commissariate for Economic Planning are debating the necessity to develope the deposits versus the natural beauty of the centuries old wilderness in the remote area. Proponents of the former position argue that electronics, one of Carentanias major industries, will require a great amount of copper in the present and future and the tapping of additional sources will secure the supply - their opponents argue that a copper shortage is not imminent and the destruction of the forest may have unforseen consequences as well as costs, considering the remote location of the area. Finally, the public has taken a stance as well, with local communities protesting the plans for open-cast mining that would devastate the pristine countryside.
