Today is August 3, 2010. Today's top story is the Jurzani Political Divide and the Mujahideen

As controversy builds over Resolution 13, the people of the Jurzan are becoming unpatient and increasingly resentful. The resent is mainly focused at Talemantros, Montelimar, and Fulanistan. Resentment towards the Security Council is mainly directed at the EDF's influence over it. This resentment has led to political divides.

Also, as the possibility of Talemantros still invading, reports are coming in from towns across the Jurzan that people are "committed to the defense of their homes." They have taken up arms and said they will defend their homes till death. Current estimates say that around 2.5 million of these people said they will defend their homes.* That number also seems to be growing. General Khayrat deemed these people "Mujahideen Fighters, rising to defend themselves and participate in the Jihad."

President Shakil Isma'il said that there should be cooperation with the world and use words to fix the nation's image. However, another strong political influence, General Faraj Khayrat, stated that the Council of Nations "ignored us until Talemantros bribed them with oil, I say we ignore them." President Isma'il offered to send Zurab Nadarejshvili to speak on behalf of the Jurzan, while Khayrat said that Nadarejshvili should do something more productive.

Another huge political issue is the loss of the $8 Billion that has caused such a steep economic recession. Isma'il promised to repay all the lost money and stabilize the banking system while maintaining the national bank. Khayrat on the other hand, said that the money should be repaid, but then have the banks privatized for the Government has shown inability to manage it.

OOC: The Sovereign Military Order of the Silverless Saints is supposed to be a Knights Hospitaller old crusading order, and one of the four knightly orders of/in Wiese. The Grand Hospitaller is the "health minister" and "foreign aid minister" of the Order, so to speak.

It is sovereign, virtually outside Imperial jurisdiction as an entity, and has a 'symbiotic' coexistence with Wiese and potentially other Catholic countries in that it effectively forms Wiese's healthcare and welfare system, with financing from its own non-charity assets, donations, the Catholic Church and the Privy Purse of the Emperor and the monarchs of the Imperial States. Although a Catholic order, it would also be active in non-Catholic countries if allowed, and would operate clinics, orphanages, hospitals and so forth.

Jurzani Congress responds to Abasha

As the attack on Senaki continues, the Civil War is coming to an end as the new Jurzani Congress becomes the successor of Akhaltsikhe. The threat of war still looms because of Talemantros' plight to secure Akhaltsikhe's oil for their own gain. It is likely that the struggle between the Jurzan and Talemantros will never end. Some say Talemantros will be to the Jurzan what Hajr was to Akhaltsikhe.

The Abasha City Council proposed creating a Georgian Country so that Georgians could govern a land the way they wanted and that Uroduah could govern a land the way they wanted. The original proposal called for a large section of the Jurzan's north to go to the Georgians, including the Heart of the Nation, Abasha. So, the proposal was rejected and a new one was submitted.

The new proposal gives 1/3 of the original proposal's request of land to the new Georgian Nation. It also splits the city of Abasha, giving the Jurzan the noticeably better half, including the port and mouth of the Kalatozov River. The Jurzan justified the move by stating that the new Georgian Nation hugged the coast and didn't go far in land.

The proposal was submitted to Abasha, with the words "final proposal" and the Abasha City Council agreed to it. President Isma'il is currently flying to Abasha to sign the treaty.

Carentanian and Jurzani Forces are continuing to push into Senaki, defeating Akhaltsikhi Resistance along the way. By Sunday, military officials stated that Senaki, the last Akhaltsikhi Stronghold, will fall to the Jurzan and Carentania. That coupled with the treaty will officially end the Jurzani Revolution.

President Isma'il stated "with peace within our grasp, it is now up to Talemantros and Fulanistan to decide whether or not to continue the chaos and bloodshed."

News in Brief...August 5, 2010

Domestic: President Isma'il and the Abasha City Council sign the "Peace treaty of 2010." The Treaty said that Akhaltsikhe surrenders the land agreed upon to the Jurzani Confederation and officially recognizes it. Conversely, the Jurzani Confederation must recognize Akhaltsikhe. Isma'il stated that "the Jurzani Revolution has ended on August 5, 2010."

Some members of the Jurzani Congress claim that the war will not end until Khovera surrenders in Senaki, which is scheduled to happen by the end of the weekend. Isma'il continued to say that the constitution would go into effect immediately and elections would be held, but that cannot happen because of our next story.

International: Security Council Resolution 13, which refuses to recognize the rightful government of the Jurzan and gives Talemantros and Fulanistan the right to overthrow it, has passed by a vote of 3 to 2. Hajr was the only nation to be against it from the beginning, Wiese eventually changed their minds. Montelimar, Franken, and Oikawa all supported the bill without question, Franken even believed it was for the good of the people.

Montelimar, a member of the EDF, proposed the bill, Oikawa immediately supported it, soon followed by Franken. Both Montelimar and Franken are members of the EDF, leading many to believe that Talemantros bribed the EDF, with oil, in order to give them permission to invade the Jurzan.

This has been done despite the near end of the civil war and today's "official end" to the war. It resulted in the postponing of the elections and enactment of the constitution.

President Isma'il says "It's time to lead the Jurzan"

Today, President Isma'il announced an economic plan. He stated that originally the Jurzani Congress avoided the Economy, feeling we were a temporary government and didn't want to impose any policies. However, with Security Council Resolution 13 passed and the failing economy, Isma'il saw that measures needed to be taken.

The first part of Isma'il's plan was to hand out Government credit cards, $8 Billion worth, to the people who found their money vanished in the National Bank. He also stated that some oil wells in the South have been secured and will be pumping oil, selling the new oil primarily to Carentania. Isma'il also said that he wants to pass a bill now that will create a minimum wage, the law will be extended while the permanent government is organized.

Isma'il also looked into the war commitments to Carentania, looking at what the Jurzan has done and what it still needs to do. The first part of the agreement, a democratic government with equality as a goal, was accomplished by the constitution which cannot go into effect until the war ends. Isma'il stated on the second agreement that the Jurzani Congress has control of the bank and oil, that provides it with a huge amount of power over the economy, it needs nothing more. The Government will, however, create equality in the working place. The Jurzan has agreed to form a friendship pact with Carentania, has recognized the Carentanian-Talemantine Peace treaty of 1927 as illegal and even signed the territory back to Carentania, the fifth agreement cannot yet be executed, and the 6th was done by allowing the formation of a Georgian State.

Isma'il said that the Jurzan has done excellently on its war commitments. Isma'il has also announced he will cut military spending drastically and sell a mass majority of Akhaltsikhe's military equipment, providing a huge sum of revenue. Another post-war goal is to revamp the nation's highway systems and construct a high-speed railway as well as the reconstruction of Sharjah(Senaki) so it may become the nation's capital city.

One of Isma'il's major goals is to end the food crisis that has struck the nation, especially now. Isma'il stated that the farms aren't producing enough and as a result food is collapsing and many are going hungry. Isma'il said that will be one of the new government's top priorities.

In terms of foreign affairs, Isma'il has always been a patient man and supportive of the Council of Nations. Now however, his rhetoric has changed stating that the Council of Nations on one said has damned us to imperialism and on the other twiddled their thumbs only talking about what to do. He stated his respect for the organization has all but diminished.

General Khovera surrenders!

Jurzani and Carentanian Forces have begun the assault on Senaki and as a result, General Khovera surrendered to Jurzani Forces, and nearly 6,000 Elite Guardsmen were taken as POWs, with General Khovera arrested for war crimes. The trial for General Khovera will begin on August 10, 2010.

With news of the surrender, President Isma'il officially ordered the proclamation of the 31 Emirates and the beginning of the first election for the Shura Congress of the Juzani Confederation.

Governments of the largest city in the Emirates have taken over as the Emirate's Government and will hold elections with the Shura Congress. Election day will be August 13, 2010 for both the Shura Congress and governments of the Emirates. This is of course assuming that foreign forces do not invade the Jurzan during the process, if this happens, the elections will be postponed.

President Isma'il announced the formation of the "Modern Sharia Party(حزب الشريعة الحديثة)" or MSP. Isma'il said he will be campaigning for the MSP's nomination for the Presidency of the Shura Congress. Isma'il announced that the MSP will follow Sharia Law, but a modern, liberal interpretation of it, including monumental reforms in women's and homosexual rights.

The second political party to rise is the Islamic Rights Party, which also stresses Sharia Law, but a more traditional version that does make advances in women's rights, but doesn't call for anywhere near the lenghts of the MSP. It also rejects Homosexual rights.

No early polls have been done to see who is winning, but as far as we know, no one is running for the IRP's presidential nomination. International observers are invited into the Jurzan to watch the elections to ensure their fairness.

Faraj Khayrat announces his candidacy

Today, Faraj Khayrat announced he will be running for the IRP's presidential nomination. There have been many rumors that he was preparing for this, but there were doubts he would go through with it. Khayrat did say, however, that "Islamic Rights' Party" is not an accurate name. The IRP quickly renamed itself to the National Democratic Party.

Khayrat's policies differ from those of Isma'il in many ways. In Foreign Policy, Khayrat suggests using the Jurzan's oil more strategically rather than to make huge sums of money. Khayrat said that huge amounts of the population are starving and if the Jurzan signed a bill to jumpstart the nation's farms and a "food for oil" program with other countries, the food shortage would be eliminated. Khayrat said "if I was President, oil production will reach pre-war levels by October."

Khayrat's policies also differ on both homosexuality and women's rights. Khayrat said that homosexuality was something that should be handled by the Emirates, and not a concern for the Shura Congress. Same goes for women, however, Khayrat will institute laws to defeat any discrimination that does exist.

Khayrat's biggest differences are his views on the military and the National Bank. Khayrat said that the constitution stresses a limited government, the National Bank grants the Government full power over the finances of the nation. As a result, $8 Billion of the people's money is gone. Khayrat proposes splitting the bank into several banks and privatizing them. He did say it's the government's responsibility to pay back the money it lost.

Isma'il said he wants to maintain a military on Akhaltsikhe's size, but Khayrat says that the military should be a smaller, better equipped and trained force. Khayrat said he wants 350,000 active troops and 400,000 reserve forces. That cuts the nation's military by 650,000 troops. Khayrat didn't offer that much of a budget cut though.

The Bank has been a subject of huge debate between the NDP and MSP, however, early polls show that the NDP candidates are leading over MSP candidates.

We do not intend to meddle in the domestic affairs of sovereign Jurzan, but wish to make a proposal on the controversial issue of the National Bank. Due to its far-reaching consequences, the population of the Jurzan should have a say in the matter beyond that of electing the president, as in the presidential elections, other issues also do factor in and many who oppose a privatization of the National Bank may favor Mr. Faraj Khayrat nonetheless due to his federalist policies.
Carentania therefore proposes to our friends in Jurzan to hold a referendum on the issue of the National Bank some while after the presidential election, to allow the people of Jurzan to decide the future of their national bank.

Furthermore, we wish both candidates in this election good luck and whoever may win is invited to come and visit Rijeka to discuss the future of Carentanian-Jurzani friendship.

National Democratic Party dominates polls

Results on the nation's polls, whether it be a large sample group or a small one, clearly show that the NDP is dominating nationwide. The polls were averaged to show that the prediction is that the NDP is leading the MSP by 65% to 35%.

The MSP is dominating more in the south, where the population is much less dense and more Uroduah then Georgian. However, the NDP is dominating, by large margins, the north and central parts of the country. Many speculate the reason for this is that more Uroduah live there and they've been victim to Apartheid on a larger scale.

The NDP is perceived as a nationalistic party which values the Uroduah and Islamic way of life over anything else. Many Uroduah who have suffered Apartheid feel that it is their time to be on top which is why there is such a huge attraction to the NDP. The NDP says that welfare isn't the Shura Congress' responsibility, to which many Uroduah agree because they've lived on their own for so long, they've grown to be fiercely independent.

The MSP is perceived as a liberal party who wants to successfully integrate the Uroduah into the Georgian's level on society, creating equilibrium. They also advocate a large Government influence in the people's lives, to ensure equilibrium. They are extremely popular among the south and the Georgians. Many Georgians believe that the MSP will be less punishing then the NDP.

Khayrat wins NDP's nomination, announces part of his foreign policy

Today, by nearly 98% of the vote, Faraj Khayrat was voted to be the NDP's nominee for the Presidency of the Shura Congress. Khayrat graciously accepted the nomination and began to speak about a Jurzan under the governing of the NDP.

Mostly, he focused on foreign policy. Early today, Talemantros issued an oil embargo on the Kingdom of Belmont. This has likely to do with the fact that Belmont has supported the Jurzan where as Talemantros has not. As a result, Khayrat declared that the Jurzan would make up the oil lost by the Embargo and trade with Belmont to "make the Talemantine Oil Embargo entirely worthless." Khayrat said he would allow Belmont's military force to have a presence in the Jurzan simply as more security against a Talemantine invasion or any other threat. He claimed that maintaining ties with Belmont will be extremely important. He also stated he would close the border with Talemantros and cancel all talks with the Talemantines until they are "Ready to be reasonable."

With election day nearing, the NDP still maintains a strong lead over the MSP.
