THE FOREIGN OFFICE
VESPER, TUESDAY, 27th MARCH 2012

THE Oceanic Realms mourns the passing of this international treasure, and loudly speaks the Ambassador's praises from Cantignia, Oceania, and the World. The Ambassador's value to the culture and community of Vesper was profound, one which will never be fully replaced by any able bodied woman or man. We continue to believe in a strong relationship with Belmont, and pray that the Ambassador of tomorrow can settle in and adapt to the friendly confines as surely as their predecessor did.

Forward Cantignia!

COALITION LIBÉRALE CALLS DISMISSAL "UNFAIR"; CALLS FOR NATIONAL DAY OF PROTEST
Fmr. Premier Shahrazad Martinique leads party into confrontation with Monarchy & Opposition for "stealing" the government from her

VILLESEN : The capital, this day, was the scene of increasingly vitriolic protests and rallies by supporters of the ousted Coalition Libérale, which has shipped in several thousand of its members into the city's main square – and not to mention the twenty thousand or so civilian supporters that have joined their ranks – blocking the Parliament building and routes to the commerce centers of the city, leaving the city centre shut down. The charge of the Liberalistes is led by their firebrand leader, Shahrazad Martinique, the Premier for the past four and a half years, whose term has been plagued by damaging attacks on the government by opposition parties and several corruption scandals, not to mention a slowly rising national deficit and shakiness in stabilizing the Franc during the Great Continental War of the past year.

In her speech to the CL's supporters, Mme. Martinique, from a podium erected on the very stairs of the Parliament, said that the dismissal of her government was an attack on democracy and was an attempt by elements within the establishment to restore their control on the state, lost during the 2008 elections when the CL defeated the right-wing Coalition Nationale. She went on to state that many policies pursued by her government were forced to be abandoned due to pressure exerted upon her by "elements within the Establishment", asked later by reporters she refused to name said elements. The former premier went on to criticize the Leader of the Opposition extensively and predicted that Her Majesty would come to regret falling victim to the "tales being engineered by the Nationalistes".

The Opposition, Coalition Nationale has responded by calling its own rallies in Villesen for the following week, just in the wake of its hastily arranged convention to nominate its leader for the upcoming election. The CN has, by and large, ignored many of the incendiary statements being issued by the CL, and taken instead to running a massive advertisement campaign championing their agenda and attacking the Government's policies of the past four years. The success of the CN's campaign has been demonstrated by one of its videos accumulating almost 23 million views on various websites.

Talking on the condition of anonymity with a senior CL leader, it was revealed that some within the party are alarmed by the support being shown for the restrained attitude of the Opposition, a party which has in the past has preferred to resort to conducting politics in the street rather than in the Parliament. Its silence during the current political crisis is odd, say some commentators.

The Palace, meanwhile, has made it a point to counter Mme. Martinique's claim that the Government's dismissal is "an on democracy" by saying that "the very fact that the Leader of a political party can stand on the steps of the Parliament, bring an entire city to a standstill, demonstrates that democracy is indeed alive in this nation. The dismissal of the Martinique Cabinet was entirely within the powers assigned to Her Majesty by the Constitution, which stands approved by the Parliament – claims to the contrary are disrespectful and totally untrue."

THE MINISTRY OF THE INTERIOR
The Kingdom of Belmont

The Ministry of the Interior is alarmed by random acts of hooliganism by supporters of the two leading national political parties in various areas of Monseran, where party offices have been looted and blockaded by members of the other faction, as well as the great distress being caused to the average citizenry of Monseran. As such, this Ministry is authorizing the increased deployment of police and law enforcement officers to political hotspots across the country. Failure by any protester to protest peacefully shall be immediate cause for arrest.

Furthermore, the Ministry advises the leadership of the two national political parties to restore order among their supporters at the earliest.

VANGALAN IMMIGRANT COMMUNITY TARGETED BY FAR-RIGHT GROUP
Shops burnt, cars stolen and 30 injured in Monseran

MONSERAN : The economic hub of the country was witness to a violent attack on the city's multicultural reputation, when members of a far-right group attacked a Vangalan market, setting fire to the premises and stealing a number of vehicles in the area. The attack left 30 with varying degrees of injury and sent the local Vangalan immigrant community, numbered to be around 45,000, into a state of shock and panic, despite the arrest of three of the alleged attackers and the tough stance adopted by the Municipal Government on the issue.

The political tensions playing out in the capital, hadn't disturbed the activities of the metropolitan city but the attack on the Vangalan immigrant community has come at a time when national attention is drawn to the battle of wills and ego between Shahrazad Martinique and George Bettancourt, the leaders of the two main national parties. Some in the media are blaming the current political crisis for overshadowing the issue of racial attacks that have spread out in Monseran in recent months due to the faltering pace of growth in the economy.

The Ministry of Interior has taken notice of the situation in Monseran and has launched an investigation into the presence of far-right groups across the nation. The Queen issued a statement of sympathy for those injured and hoped that all responsible would be caught and punished by the full force of the law. Despite such high level attention, the Vangalan community has looked within itself to find strength during these dark times. Some within the community favour the creation of an association to safeguard their rights and apply adequate pressure on government for their protection in an increasingly hostile environment in some areas.

VESPER, THURSDAY, 29th MARCH 2012

THE Oceanic Realms have found with an alarming frequency that Communist Vangala abuses the trust of nation's with liberal policies towards immigrants by flirting with insurrectionists, and promoting ideological instability rival to Europaland and its incestuous meddling. While the Covenant does not endorse outright violence against these communities, which are by and large peaceful to the core, we do not condemn the far-right in Belmont for having distrust and skepticism towards those who might commit violence against them, and the profoundly valuable culture of Belmont.

The People's Republic of Vangala is appalled by the increasing number of racist attacks on overseas Vangalan communities and demands stronger action from host governments. The outrageous comments by Cantigny, which insinuate Vangalans abroad act as agents and deserve racist violence, also need international condemnation.

We do not condemn Cantignia now or at any time for excercising its right to speak on any issue. We also hope that the Oceanic realms will not in future cast passive-aggressive aspersions on other Nation-states, presuming to speak for us or our foreign policies.

SHAHRAZAD MARTINIQUE FORMS NEW PARTY, WITH PPL IN TOW
Ditches coalition with Social Democrats, Leftists

The former Premier Shahrazad Martinique, who has led the country since the 2010 general elections, has pulled her party –the PPL– out of the multi-party coalition with which it formed its government. But not only has she ditch the Coalition Libérale, she has re-branded the PPL and renamed it the Parti Libérale Nationale, with the PPL being absorbed into its ranks. The move comes as increasingly public splits of opinion were seen between members of the Coalition Libérale last week and as polls show coalition politics becoming more and more unpopular amongst the people.

In her statement, Mme. Martinique also stated "The failures during the past two years have more to do with miscommunication and diverging agendas within the coalition government than with the alleged adversity between Government and Opposition. It is the express intention of my party, and myself, to form the next government – on our own terms."

The announcement threw the remaining members of the Coalition Libérale into chaos and saw very little unity emanating from within the party. A few senior leaders within the remaining member-parties said that they welcomed the exit of the centrist PPL and looked forward to pursuing a more left-wing agenda. The opposition Coalition Nationale – also a multi-party alliance – has responded by remaining silent, choosing instead to continue on with the campaign for the upcoming elections.

Mme. Martinique wins outright majority in election
Villesen | Royaume de Belmont:

Last night, the Election Commission announced the final results of the election and in doing so delivered the biggest shock in recent history. Shahrazad Martinique and her Parti Libérale Nationale had won the election and that too with an outright majority of 154 seats out of the 300 of the Chambre des Communes. Having been unceremoniously dismissed by Her Majesty just a few weeks ago, due to alleged irregularities in affairs of the state by her government, Mme. Martinique's return marks the sheer resilience of her political character.

But now as she steps back into the offices of power, she can do so without the burden of having to strike deals and compromises with coalition partners, all of whom stand isolated in Parliament after serious losses in many constituencies at the hands of the PLN. It is hoped that the incoming single-party government will ensure stable government policies unlike the trend in the past. The Coalition Nationale, which accepted its defeat, has forced its leader George Bettancourt to resign and is to hold a leadership election soon. The outright majority which the party has gained can be hoped to lead to a less antagonistic relationship between the various political parties and a more stable political discourse is expected by analysts.

Her Majesty the Queen, who is said to have tense relations with Mme. Martinique, is said to have telephoned and congratulated her on the victory and has invited her to the Palace to officially appoint her the Premier once again. In a statement, issued soon after her victory, Mme. Martinique said:
"Though this victory is a chance to celebrate the overcoming of adversity, let us not forget that from tomorrow we return to the grind of official business. But with freedom unknown to me previously, I look to redefine the national and international policies and agenda of the Kingdom... with the full support of my MPs."

Foreign Ministry releases plan for diplomatic tour by Premier
Villesen | Royaume de Belmont:

The Foreign Ministry has announced that Madame Premier Shahrazad Martinique is planning to undertake a series of diplomatic visits to a number of vital nations, the first such visit by the Premier, who was reelected by a vast majority earlier in the month since that win. The Foreign Ministry has refrained from issuing details but has confirmed that traditional allies such as Great Engellex and Cantigny are unquestionably on the list.

Premier Martinique, who was reelected on an agenda aimed at economic growth is expected to push for closer economic interaction with the states she visits and possibly look to expand international investment in the stagnating coal and natural gas industry which remains plagued by government involvement. In recent days, much to the protest of her former allies, Premier Martinique unveiled plans to privatize key segments of those two sectors.

FOREIGN OFFICE SEEKS TO ESTABLISH STRONGER TIES WITH OIL-RICH STATES

The Foreign Ministry has announced that Premier Martinique is looking to expand bilateral relations with the key oil suppliers of the Kingdom. As part of the Government's strategy, the Premier is set to undertake a series of tours to strengthen the strategic relationships between the Kingdom and its oil suppliers. The Foreign Ministry has also announced that the Premier plans to make a special stop over in Kyiv to discuss the possibility of stronger relations with that country in the realm of military and energy sectors.

ANTI-MONARCHY PROTESTS CRUSHED IN NORTHERN BELMONT

Demonstrations in the city of Lesmages opposing the monarchy have been put down by the City Police under direct orders from the Ministry of the Interior, which directed the city to arrest the leaders of the student protest and to use water cannons to break up the protest which has been growing in size over the past week. The police action saw 1,200 policemen use a number of anti-riot weaponry such as tear gas and water cannons to disperse the protesters, with several protesters being reported injured due to minor to medium injuries sustained in the panic that followed.

The city authorities have arrested 37 individuals who have been handed over to the city's justice court where they will be tried for causing grave offense to Her Majesty and for disturbing the public peace, and are expected to receive the punishment of a heavy fine, which may exceed ƒ10,000, for both charges. Human rights organizations have come to the assistance of the arrested protest leaders and have called on the Government to reconsider its harsh stance on the anti-monarchy protests.

When questioned, the Premier's Office stated that the Government was fully within its powers to try the leaders of the protests under the Insult of the State Act of 1902 and the Parliament would discuss the issue in further detail. The main opposition party, the Social Democrats have spoken in open terms that the Government is behaving "reprehensibly" and seeking to "win a soft spot in the heart of the Establishment"

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs The Kingdom of Belmont is a sovereign state and as such possesses its own laws and statutes governing the people who live within its territory. Thus for other nations to question the response of the democratically elected government is tantamount to interfering in our domestic affairs. Anti-monarchic demonstrations are illegal in our nation, a fact that was known by the protestors, and as such the Government is proceeding fully in line with the national laws in place to handle the issue.

"The Confederate government is in condemnation of the recent police suppression of peaceful demonstrative action in the Belmontien city of Lesmages. While the maintenance of public order and the rule of law is a basic duty of any state, so is the maintenance and upholding of basic civil liberties. Alas, governments which attack their own citizens with batons and water cannons simply because they're expressing their opinion do not clearly subscribe to the idea of such liberties.."
- Foreign Minister Robert Hauer speaking before the Confederate Parliament
